What if the reason Aphmau truly believes that her name is Aphmau as opposed to Irene, is because her name truly is Aphmau.

What if Irene is the persona. A name she uses in the public eye to protect her family and keep her private life well.. private.

It would explain why she’s so adamant that her name is Aphmau. That she is Aphmau and not Irene. Because she is Aphmau.

And if you think about it, the only thing she had when she woke up in the woods was the clothes on her back and a name. Her name. Aphmau.

For this weeks Sujamma Sundas I’m going to go through my vestige Irene’s design

Here’s irenes design sheet for reference and this is what she looks like most of the time when she’s out and about exploring Tamriel and doing the main quests of each province

In terms of physical features she has big sea green eyes, with a small heart shaped beauty mark beneath her right eye, brown skin and long black wavy hair that she keeps at waist length and styles it in a half-up, half-down fashion which she then keeps secure with a golden, lotus flower shaped hairpin at the back of her head with a golden chain that is tucked beneath the hair that is tied back (and not attached to her earrings)

The first photo is what I used as inspiration and is a piece of jewellery common in South Asia which Irene takes a lot of inspiration from

she stands at 5”4 normally but with her boots she up at 5”5.5 (which funnily enough makes her taller than her parents and her older sister, with her older brother being the tallest🥴)

she only prefers to wear golden jewellery as seen above and likes wearing blue/teal coloured jewels with red as an accent colour. With the earrings she’s always seen wearing being inspired by jhumka earrings and are her go to pieces

she also wears an anklet on her right foot which can symbolise a persons relationship status, in this case single and looking for a potential partner👀

finally, she has four piercings in total, one on each ear, two on her left earlobe and one belly button piercing and at this point I’m debating on if I should give her a nose piercing lol

In terms of clothing, she likes wearing different shades of blue since it’s her favourite colour and prefers to wear either pants or shorts, with it being very rare for her to be seen wearing a dress unless it’s for a special occasion

But depending on whichever province she is in she has a few different pieces of attire to suit the climate of said place

OKAY aphblr has allowed me to explain my silly little revamped version of Irene + Aphmau so you're all gonna have to suffer for it

I was an autistic little child who hated unforeshadowed plot twists (but also I was like 10 and only had so many literary analysis skills) and I have carried this grudge with me toward adulthood but. I really hated the Aphmau being amnesiac Irene plotline. I've tried remedying it several times over the years but I think the idea I've finally landed on and am now obsessed with is Aphmau being Irene's daughter.

First of all, it fits the whole matron theme, and second, it goes with that early season 1 lore that Irene had a family. It would make Aphmau's guilt really interesting when she thinks she isn't living up to her mother's legacy. The lore idea is that 1,000 years ago, when Shadow Knights/Shad came to kill Irene, she used the last of her power to place Aphmau in the staff. Hyria comes to the burnt wreckage of their home (hello! Remember how Aphmaus greatest fear was her village on fire!) to mourn and recognizes the staff for what it is, storing it until a Shadow Knight would protect Irene's daughter, making it safe enough for her to return.

But what if Irene had a second daughter? A younger one, who escaped the assassination and went on to live a normal life? We know Aphmau likes to name her kids + pets after people, so, for no reason at all in particular, let's say this girl's name is Alina. Magicks is a very uncertain area in MCD lore but I'd imagine it's to some extent genetic, so maybe when Irene's other daughter has a son, that son develops powerful magicks when he is far too young to control it. Maybe the Alina 1,000 years ago doesn't know how to help him and she sends him off with a tutor who promises he can reign in this boy's untamed magicks. Maybe that boy drove his tutor insane because the power of Irene ran in his veins, and his tutor pushed him off the balcony of a stony castle. Maybe his aunt finds him 1,000 years later and takes him in as her own.
