‘Hey, Ash,’ Sara greeted as she elbowed the door open. It wasn’t unusual to see the tech guy perched in Ella’s lab, laptop crammed onto a small piece of desk, but it was beginning to be an almost daily occurrence. Today, however, she stopped short with her usual pleasantries. There was no sign of Ashton, no sign of Ella either. Instead, it was her father standing up hastily from a stool; he’d been the figure she’d seen through the frosted glass, not one of her friends.

‘Sara,’ he greeted, but already she was reading him. The slightly down turned lips, the crease between his brows even though he was trying to sound light. He nervously played with his hands as he closed the distance between them. His Scottish accent that little more prominent than usual, hinting at emotions he was trying to keep under control. ‘Your colleague said I could wait in here.’ He glanced briefly over his shoulder, at the other door. ‘She went to get coffee.’

‘What happened?’ Sara asked, her insides squirming. The last time her dad turned up unannounced like this was when… She forced the memory away. It wasn’t helpful right now. She was at work, an adult, not a scared teenager who could do nothing about the information she’d been given. She forced the professional manner back into place.

Her father’s face seemed to pale. ‘Honey, they’re… The…’ He took a breath. She could see the anguish bright in his eyes and knew he wanted to tell her anything but this. The world suddenly felt off kilter, and yet she understood exactly what he was about to say.

‘Mum’s killer’s back,’ she whispered, needing the words out in the open if she was going to deal with them, to even give herself a fighting chance.

Slowly, her father nodded, his lips fully turned down.

Sara returned the gesture, forced herself to think. She needed to be part of the team on this. Conflict of interest be damned, she needed to put this part of her life behind her.

Four-Philosophy Ensemble

Piper Beckett is The Apathetic: Uninvolved or neutral, different goals or priorities than other characters. Piper is human and doesn’t really know about the world of the divine that has made Earth their playground for the moment. She loves her best friend Zadie, and will do anything to make sure she’s OK… Even if she doesn’t really get what this Camael man is doing.

Camael is The Cynic: Logical, practical/sceptical, deadpan snarker, prioritises survival over other goals. Another of Lucifer’s siblings, Camael is the archangel of war and rarely lets his siblings forget this. Despite how some of his siblings are slowly finding Earth as an interesting place, he’s intent on bringing them back home in the hopes of encouraging another war.

Zadkiel (Zadie Oakley) is The Optimist: Determined, loyal to ideals, values honour before reason & morality or friendship over rules. As the archangel of freedom and mercy, Zadie decided Earth was a good place to learn a little more about these kinds of things. She explores the world with her best friend, and tries to protect her from the world that seems to be snapping at her heels.

Alexi Brady is The Realist: A leader, takes the middle ground, objective, decisive, adheres to personal code, calm or quiet. Alexi is a demon that Camael brought with him to help gathering his siblings. But Alexi soon finds himself realising that there is more to the mortals than he first thought, the biases that he’d nurtured. His own personal code is pulled into question when he meets Zadkiel.
