I feel like sibling and platonic relationships don’t get talked enough, especially in relation to romantic relationships in fandoms.

Like cool, I love these ship, but can we PLEASE discuss the fact that Dean is the only person who has never lied to Lia? How he is the only person she will listen to, because he’s the only person she trusts? How Dean was the one person who prevented her from feeling trapped all the time? How Dean was the only person Lia ever let know and get close to the real her? How they were the only constants (besides Judd love him too) in each other’s lives for years in their childhood? The way he knows her and she knows him? She knows how to comfort him and distract him and get him to feel things and tried to help him with his father by looking through his father's file, ignoring her own feelings about it because she just wanted to help him only to find out that she can’t help. (Just think for a moment how she must have felt when she realized that. Because this genuinely breaks my heart.) The fact that they are intensely protective of each other, the way they have conversations without talking just by looking at each other, the way Dean trusts her and Lia trusts him, how they are literally siblings.

And this is going into kind of headcanon-y territory, but I like to believe that Dean didn’t ask Lia any questions about her past and waited for her to tell him herself, and refrained from profiling her (too much at least), and truly didn’t/doesn’t know anything about her past that she didn’t/doesn’t tell him. And how Dean told him things about his past he hadn’t told anyone before, not just to get her to trust him, but also because he trusted her. Just think for a moment please, how Lia, a girl who has been lied to and hurt and threatened and abused by every single person in her life, would feel about meeting someone who didn’t do any of that. Who never even lied to her, not once. For every lie she told him, Dean only ever told her the truth. Dean didn’t blame her for anything, for any part of what she went through. How confused she must have been, finding out that not everyone was like that. How hurt she must have been when she realized that what happened in her past, her childhood, was so much worse than she thought. Because before she thought that everyone was like that and it was normal, but meeting Dean who was entirely fundamentally different in every single way, showed her that it wasn’t. Think about how Dean must have felt, meeting a girl so defensive and closed off. How meeting her awakened a side of him he didn’t think he had, the side that felt and loved and trusted and the side that felt the inexplicable need to protect that girl.

And the fact that to protect her, Dean turns the attention on himself and his past, which he hates, just so Lia doesn’t have to face questions about her own past. Lia would go through hell for him, and he would do the same for her.

Think about how before, all of Lia’s love had essentially been very idk submissive almost, like how she followed her mother and what her mother told her. I think she truly believed at some point that her mother was safe to trust. And then, well, we all know what happened and how her mother is actually evil and— Anyway, after her mother, the only person she trusted in her childhood before, completely shattered and destroyed all senses of trust in others, she lets herself trust and love this boy who trusts and loves her. And this love is fierce and protective, infinitely intense and powerful. The kind of love that can destroy worlds and build new ones, defying all logic and all boundaries. The opposite of what her love had been previously. And think about how much she had to have trusted him to let herself love like that.

Also think about how hurt Lia must have been when Dean shut her out. She trusted him with her whole being, she loved him and she saw them as a unit regardless of what happened and what other people entered and left their lives. They would always be with each other. Dean had never shut her out before, and Dean shut her out too. That hurts my soul way too much for it to be healthy. (I am choosing to believe that they had a conversation afterwards and then they both proceeded to cry and it never happened again yay happy ending tbh considering writing that bc I don't think I will survive if it doesn't end happily like that)

And Dean!! He’s lived his entire life terrified of feeling, terrified of becoming his father. He was living in a house alone with Judd and profiling killers which definitely perpetuated his fear, and then here came this girl whom he could protect. A girl he wouldn’t let himself hurt, a girl he could help for once and not mess it all up. And he didn’t mess it up. He saw how hurt she was, and how little she was willing to admit the truth to. And in that, he saw someone he could understand. He saw someone who he could profile for a good reason, but only profile enough to be able to get her to trust him and not enough to violate her privacy and that trust. He let himself get close to someone for the first time in his life. And for the first time in his life, he wasn’t a monster. Lia didn’t see him as a monster.

Because of their past and childhood, Dean didn’t trust himself and Lia only trusted herself and no one else. But meeting and loving each other? It taught Dean he can trust himself not to hurt someone. And it taught Lia that she can trust someone who won’t hurt her.

Maybe it’s because of the amatocentric world being way too focused on romantic relationships, but why aren’t we talking about this more??

the morning is,,, sluggish. you're hugged up on the couch in the living room of the safe house, surrounded by sloane, cassie, & lia. it's one of those perfectly quaint moments where you all get to just be & sit together. no cases, no life & death situation▰just girl chat.

"i'm just saying," cassie ponders, flipping a kernel of popcorn in the air & catching it in her mouth, "if a dude texts you 'hope you don't have plans, because you do now,' it's either a power move or a red flag."

lia laughs. "or, in michael's case, both."

sloane hummed. "technically, controlling what someone does is a manipulation. but based on the way you look when you talk about him, i'd say your dopamine levels are indicating excitement more than distress."

you blink. "sloane▰what?"

"she means you like it," cassie interprets, smiling.

before you can protest, your phone vibrates.

michael: hope you don't have plans tonight. actually, doesn't matter. you do now. 8:45AM

michael: 7pm, i'll be waiting, princess. 8:58AM

you glare at the screen.

lia leans in, rereading the text. "wow. he really went for it."

cassie smiles. "so, are you going to text him back, or are we going to psychoanalyze his behavior for another ten minutes?"

you roll your eyes, shaking your head as you text.

you: oh? & what exactly am i being kidnapped for? 8:59AM

the response is immediate. quick.

michael: only the best night of your life. dress cute. or don't. either way, i'll be distracted. 8:59AM

lia fake━gags. "god, he's such a flirt."

sloane furrows her brow. "should we be worried about the word 'kidnapped'?"

cassie pats her arm. "not this time, sloane."

you shake your head, heat rising up your neck as you lock your phone. it's just michael being michael. but still… you can't help but feel the excitement flutter in your stomach.

michael waited outside the safe house in his━ish car, slouching against the door as if he's about to have his picture taken for the cover of a magazine. his leather jacket is open just enough to suggest the shirt beneath, sleeves rolled up like he knows how it affects you.(he so does.)

"you look really nice," he says when you step outside.

you lift an eyebrow. "you talk as if i never do."

his lips quiver. "true. but something about realizing you prepared yourself just for me? makes it even sweeter."

he takes a step closer, his hand brushing against your wrist as he pulls you towards the car. it's the smallest touch, but it sends a shiver running down your spine.

"you're gawking," he whispers, voice low.

"i am not."

michael smiles. "you so are."

you roll your eyes, pushing him gently before sliding into the passenger seat. he simply laughs, as he, as well, enters the car & starts the engine.

he doesn't tell you where you're going, only smirks when you ask him & turns the radio up. the city lights whizz by as he drives with one hand on the wheel, the other draped loosely on the gearshift. near your knee.

at some point, his fingers drum absently against your leg, & when you look at him, he looks back at you with something unreadable, something more serious than mere teasing. but then he simply smirks again & looks away at the road, leaving you to wonder if you imagined it.

the arcade is a loud, neon lights blinking as crowds gather around machines, laughter & the ring of tokens is the majority of what you can hear. michael takes you through the mayhem as if he's done this a million times, dodging groups with ease.

the rest of the arcade date was you & michael competing▰racing games (michael won), hoops shot (you won, you got to pull his hair), & oh, then skee━ball, where he somehow manages to talk you into letting him stand behind you in the excuse of "helping."

his hands are on your waist, steering your movements, but you're very much aware of how close he's standing, his breath tickling your cheek.

"see?" he whispers. "you just gotta▰"

the ball sails way out of bounds, hitting a machine.

you glance back at him. "wow. great assistance."

michael smirks. "alright, so i zoned out."

"you are so▰"

he silences you with a soft kiss on the cheek. "winning."

you hate being so flustered. especially because of this man. by michael townsend.

by the time you arrive back at the safe house, it's late enough that the rest of the naturals have already collapsed after their own long day.

& here you are, cutting vegetables when michael creeps up behind you, leaning in to get something. his chest nudges against your back, his warm breath in your ear.

michael decided that dinner would be you two spending time making your meals.

"you know," he whispers, "this domestic thing suits you."

you haven't even got your answer in before the fridge door opens.

sloane.

she blinks up at you two, then at the food. then she utters, deadpan, "did you know that onions give off a sulfur compound that makes you cry because it turns into sulfuric acid when it hits your eyes?"

michael groans, but not loud enough for the blond to hear. "sloane, what are you doing?"

sloane looks at the coffee jelly on the fridge, then looks back at you & michael.

"......getting juice."

he pinches the bridge of his nose. "we're on a date."

sloane's eyes open a little wider. "oh. i see. should i go?"

michael looks at you, obviously waiting for you to agree, but instead, you grin. "you can stay for dinner if you'd like."

michael exhales, defeated. "yeah, yeah. whatever."

while you eat, you can't help but mother sloane a bit▰wiping sauce off her chin, forcing her to actually drink water(because you thought she was gonna choke.)

michael observes(eyes filled with adoration), shaking his head(he loves the both of you.).

sloane is done & rises. she went for a tight hug, giving you her thanks.

"thanks for the meal. i will now take my leave so you can get back to your… whatever this is."

& then she leaves.

you didn't get the chance to hug her back.

after the little interruption(to michael, at least.) you're now snuggled against michael on the couch, the movie, pride & prejudice playing. his fingers make slow, soft, lazy patterns on your arm, his eyes more intense than they used to be.

"you stare at me like that," he says, his voice low, "& i'm gonna begin to believe you like me."

you roll your eyes, but he turns your face up, his lips just grazing yours.

"you know," he speaks against your lips, "i was going to make out with you hours ago, but someone▰" he kisses you slowly "▰invited sloane to dinner."

you hum, leaning in, deepening the kiss. his fingers glide against your jaw, tilting your head up as his other hand rests on your thigh, squeezing lightly.

it begins slow, provoking even, his lips hardly moving against yours, just enough to make you pursue him. he smirks against your lips & pulls you onto his lap afterwards.

"you're really impossible," he grumbles, his fingers wrapped around your waist as you settle into him.

you counter by jerking your hips a little, enough to make him take a sharp intake of breath. his arms close around you, his fingers pressing into your flesh as he kisses you harder▰hotter.

he moves his head, lips tracing down your jawline to your neck, nipping & then smoothing out the area with his tongue.

your breathing catches.

michael breaks away just far enough to look at you, his eyes dilated. "you're gonna kill me."

you smile, running your fingers through his hair. "i thought you enjoyed distractions."

his lips are on yours again before you can get another word out, his hands roaming, his body pushing closer▰

& then your phone rings.

michael groans, his forehead falling against your shoulder. "i swear to god, if that's sloane▰"

& it is.

sloane💘: please don't touch the coffee jelly:) 1:04AM

sloane 💘: we can share tomorrow if you want 1:05AM

you laugh, pulling him back to kiss him again. "shh, you know i love her. &.. i'll reply later."

he dramatically sighs but allows you to kiss him breathless nonetheless.
