Robo Advisory: Revolutionizing Investments in India
What is Robo Advisory?
Robo advisory refers to the use of algorithms and artificial intelligence to offer financial advice and investment management services with minimal human intervention. Investors typically interact with these platforms through user-friendly interfaces, answering questions about their financial goals, risk tolerance, and investment horizon. Based on this information, robo-advisors create tailored investment portfolios, often comprising low-cost exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and mutual funds.

Benefits of Robo Advisory in India
Cost-Effective Solutions Robo-advisors generally charge lower fees compared to traditional financial advisors, making them a budget-friendly option for investors. Many platforms operate on a flat fee or a percentage of assets under management, which can be significantly lower than the fees associated with personal financial advisory services.
Accessibility Robo advisory platforms democratize investment management by allowing anyone with a smartphone and an internet connection to access financial advice. This accessibility encourages a wider range of individuals, especially young investors and first-time savers, to begin their investment journeys.
Personalization Through sophisticated algorithms, robo-advisors analyze individual investor profiles to create customized portfolios that align with specific financial goals and risk appetites. This level of personalization ensures that investors are more likely to achieve their objectives.
Transparency Most robo-advisors offer clear information about their fees, investment strategies, and portfolio performance. This transparency builds trust and helps investors make informed decisions.

Nails, TV, Moving
Rendacted paints your nails and 'asks' you to move in. 1.3k words, GN reader c:
14 Days With You is an 18+ Yandere Visual Novel. MINORS DNI
~
"Unfortunately for our contestant—" the host’s words get cut off as you press a button on the remote.
"Booooo," you jeered at the TV from your spot on the floor and changed the channel.
Ren hummed softly at your voice, but didn't look up. Despite the dark bangs that obscure their eyes, you can tell they’re focused. He was happily painting your nails—the same shade of black as his own—at your request. He insisted you sit as close as possible on the blanket he laid down, instead of across the coffee table. He'd only ever painted his own nails after all, so the angle was very important to keep him from messing up. You were certain he just said that because he wanted the closeness.
The screen barely flashes a few frames before you're changing it again. A football game, a cartoon, a drama, and then—you finally stop. There's a couple wandering through a cabin, with a disembodied voice narrating all it had to offer. One of the many house hunting shows that came on every so often.
"Oh, this one's pretty." You put down the remote to watch. The couple head upstairs where the master bedroom is and your excitement quickly dies. "Maybe not. The bathroom is a huge let down."
Ren casts a glance up at the TV as the camera pans over the room once more. He took in the slanted ceiling, with the tub stationed on the lower end, lit up by an angled skylight. He didn't really see whatever problem you had. "What's wrong with it?" he asked.
"The ceiling is already so low. You'd have to fold yourself in half to get in that tub, tall as you are. And you'd probably hit your head every time you got out. We couldn't live there," you grumbled and rested your chin on your free hand, eyes never straying from the screen. "No way I'd put you through that."
You didn't notice how he perked up when your concerns involved him—you even said ‘we.’ A miniscule drop of polish fell on the paper towel under your hand. He wasn't sure if you were being considerate, or if your perfectly normal relationship was at the point of buying a home together. He hoped it was the latter. Either way, including them already planted ideas in their mind. "So then, what's our—your ideal home have?"
"My ideal home…" You’d only really thought about things you didn’t want, thanks to your current apartment. "I can't say I'm very picky. No holes in the walls, enough room to breathe, no rats," you paused for a bit—now they were in a rather awkwardly shaped second bedroom. "When I was little I wanted to live in a bounce house. Or have a freezer dedicated to ice cream."
Ren smiled while he carefully painted the nail of your pinky. "One of those is doable."
"True, but I'd rather not blow up my house every day," you joked and continued pondering. "The location is probably the most important, right?" He silently nodded in agreement as you went on. "Corland Bay's nice and all—having everything so close together makes things easy. Except sometimes I wanna fall asleep without hearing cars pass by or Violet playing games. It's much quieter here. Plus your bed is comfy."
"You're more than welcome to live here, Angel," he innocently offered. “Although maybe you’d enjoy somewhere more secluded.”
“Like just out of town? Not too far from civilization. I'd still wanna be near the beach." You watched the couple fuss about the kitchen in another house before you really processed what he just said. You turned to look at him for the first time since the show caught your interest. "Are you asking me to move in with you?"
"Oh, is that what it sounded like?" His tone was full of shock, but you could see the way his snake bites pulled up in a faint grin. He examined your nails and lifted your hand once he deemed it finished. "I do have all this space, though. The library’s close by. Beach is a short walk away, too. No neighbors, no noise. I've never had a rat problem. I guess it hits all the marks f’you, doesn’t it, Angel?"
"Ren…" You rolled your eyes at his antics.
"If you really want to move in that badly, I'm not opposed," he said teasingly. "Other hand."
You didn't respond just yet, merely giving them a playful side eye and placing your hand flat on the table. Gently, you blew air on your wet nails while he went to work. The noise of the TV faded into the background as you thought about his offer.
It was a big step to take. You already spent a fair amount of your time at his place. The ever-dwindling amount of laundry you did at home served as proof. Cohabitating with them wouldn't be much different from now. Ren always gave you space when you asked, even with his clingy personality. He was tidy, quiet, and never made a fuss—the perfect roommate on paper. The real issue was money. A place like this would cost way more than a librarian’s salary could pay.
"As much as I want to, I have to consider rent first," you thought aloud, causing him to stop and look up.
"Angel, you don't need to pay anything." His answer was almost immediate and it surprised you how firm he sounded about it.
You shook your head. "I know I probably can't do half, but I’d like to do my fair share. How much is your rent each month?"
"Well, actually," he stalled and idly rolled the nail brush in his fingers before putting it back in the bottle. The rent was one thing he couldn’t be bothered to keep track of. "...I have no idea?"
"How—what?"
"It's an automatic payment so I never think about it," he admitted, explaining further at your incredulous expression. "I mean I definitely saw it when I found the listing—and when I signed the lease. But I can't remember it off the top of my head."
You had a hard time believing what you were hearing. You knew your own rent by heart—it mocked you every time it took a chunk out of your bank account. A question about how he budgeted weighed in your mind, although the rather calm way Ren spoke clearly answered it: he didn't. It seemed obvious now; he'd been a frivolous spender from the beginning.
The blank look on your face made him a little worried. "Honestly, Angel, it’s not an issue. I’ve been paying it on my own just fine," he insisted. "You don’t have t’worry about any cost if you stay here, I promise.” He’d be happy as a clam to pay triple whatever he already was if it meant you'd move in. Hell, he’d even pay for you to live in one of the empty units next door.
"Fine then," you sighed in defeat, glancing towards the TV screen for a moment. The show was already ending. "If I tried to give you money you'd just find a way to give it back anyways.”
Ren let out a faint breath as if he was holding back laughter, but didn’t disagree. "So, how about it? Gonna move in?” he asked with a sincere smile.
You couldn’t help but smile the same in return. “Yeah, why not? I’d be crazy to say no. I can talk to my landlord and be out in a few weeks, probably.”
His excitement only seemed to grow at your words. He was radiating silent joy, fingers tapping rhythmically on the table as he uncapped the bottle of polish once more. You could almost imagine a tail wagging behind him as he tried to make steady brushstrokes over your nail.
“Are you really that happy?” you laughed and he nodded. “Maybe I should just move in tomorrow.” His hand barely slipped, leaving the tiniest streak of polish on the side of your ring finger.
“Oops,” he muttered.

Hello! I am a new hire working as a Student Services Specialist at an equity focused school, mainly working with low-income and underrepresented students! This means I work with high schoolers as they complete their internships/work study as well as college applications! Most of our students have low confidence in their options for the future due to their circumstances, so I want to give them the best chance they have to be successful in their own way. I am currently raising money to create an inviting office space to have 1:1s with my students as they navigate post high school options, as well as provide them with all the resources and tools necessary for their success.
Currently my office is really bland, and as I continue to connect with students throughout the school year I want to make sure they have a safe space to come talk to me for whatever they may need.
Here is my blurb for my "Self-Care Corner" project.
Applying for colleges is a very stressful time for students. As we work to support them and have these hard conversations with them some tears and frustrations have been shared. I believe that it would be incredibly beneficial for them to be able to destress and have more comforting items available for them to use at their discretion as they apply and have these meetings.
College is hard and students need a way to destress.
Our most important goal is to set students up for success - which means something different for each of them. We still require them to apply to colleges as a backup, and with financial aid talks and amidst the overwhelming application process, these students could really use materials that helps support them in self-care and promoting good mental well-being.
Right now, while funds last, ALL DONATIONS ARE BEING MATCHED. This means, if you donate $20, I will receive $40!
Donations will be matched on the "Self Care Corner" project until September 20th if you use the code LIFTOFF! But please feel free to look at the other projects and donate to those if you can as well
Any donation helps!! Also feel free to share this with a reblog, a link to social media (Facebook, Twitter, Insta, Tiktok, whatever) - it will help tons!

I miss CEO Sevika :(
What about Reader and Sevika going to...idk a dinner party/charity event with multiple companies in attendance. Sevika is one of the speakers for the night and while she's nervous, she knocks it out of the park. Meanwhile Reader is like "wow my wife is such a fucking boss and so hot for doing that on stage, I can't NOT suck her off and get fucked in a random, out of the way bathroom right afterwards."
i was thinking about this ask the entire time she was up there by vander's statue giving her speech. my sweet baby.
men and minors dni
sometimes, you forget just how important sevika's work is. most days you're stuck in your office together, making phone calls and signing documents.
but it's nights like this, when sevika's company has its annual ball, that you're hit with how much sevika does for the community.
the company built on the idea of giving low income communities low interest loans to build businesses and homes. there're several neighborhoods and families that you know personally that have had their lives transformed by sevika's work. but it's not just that.
it's parks built on the company's dime, community centers and pools and basketball courts sponsored by sevika herself. it's the team of social workers and accountants sevika's carefully hired over the years, who make sure that your clients are trained in financial literacy so they don't fall through the cracks. it's underfunded public schools-- the schools you went to as a kid-- being sent busload after busload of books and computers and supplies from your wife. it's medical bills being paid off by a mysterious, 'anonymous' source--the chickenscratch on the checks all matching your wife's.
and nights like this, with each lead team member of all the departments giving presentations of the differences they've made in the community this year, where it really hits you how incredible your wife is.
your poor wife. sevika's currently on the brink of passing out from her nerves, a glass of whiskey shakily clutched in her palms as she waits behind the stage. "baby." you coo, reaching up to cup her face.
sevika winces and pouts in your hold. "i hate public speaking." she whines. you chuckle.
"i know, love." you sigh. you'd give this speech for her if you could-- but it's kinda a requirement that the ceo speak at these big events. "it's just five minutes, talk about the good you've done this year, get some claps, get some laughs, then we can bail." you promise her.
sevika pouts even more, slouching down against you. "you remember the first time we put one of these shitshows on?" she asks.
you giggle and nod.
your second year working for sevika, a few months into dating, and the company had the first of it's now notorious annual balls. of course, back then it wasn't quite as sophisticated as today's is, but it was pretty memorable. after her speech (which she nailed, because despite how much she hates it sevika is good at talking) sevika ran off the stage, high on the applause she'd received, and practically leapt into your arms where you stood backstage. "fuck i can't believe i did that." she whispered against your scalp. "and they liked it!" she laughs.
you giggled and kissed her cheek. "course they liked it, you're very easy to like."
and then sevika said the words you'd been dying to hear her say, the words you were trying desprately to keep inside your throat until she was ready. "i couldn't've done it without you, y'know." she whispered. your smile got softer, and sevika leaned impossibly closer to you. "you kinda scare the shit outta me and... i think i'm in love with you."
you had just grinned and kissed her, mumbling a teasing "you think or you know?" against her lips.
and here you are, nearly ten years later, on the same little patch of floor backstage of your favorite venue, smiling up at your wife.
"course i remember, baby. one of the best moments in my life. right up there with meeting you 'n marrying you. think it'll be in the little montage that flashes before my eyes once i die." you say, giggling.
sevika smiles sweetly and kisses you. "yeah, me too." she whispers.
you hold her for a moment, hoping the touch will help her relax a bit, both of you swaying gently in your dark little corner as you wait for seamus to finish his speech and introduce sevika. "you're gonna do amazing, y'know. you do every year."
"ugh. i know." sevika huffs against you. you giggle.
"so then why are you so worried?" you ask. sevika shrugs against you.
"just. 's a lotta people. and i like when you baby me." she says.
you burst into laughter just as the audience on the other side of the stage bursts into applause. sevika groans, and you give her one last good squeeze and a smooch to her cheek before pushing her toward the stage. "go ahead baby. you got this." you encourage her. sevika smiles shyly at you, and you curse. "shit, sev, wait! i left a kiss mark on your cheek!" you squeak, scrambling to grab her wrist and wipe off the lipstick that must've transferred from her lips to your own, then onto her cheek.
sevika ducks out of her hold, though, her smile only growing. "good. let 'em see it." she says, winking at you before ducking under a curtain and out onto the stage.
the crowd bursts into applause at her appearance, and your heart melts as her words sink in.
she's such a fucking sap. you love her so much you think you might explode.
she nails it, because of course she does. by the time she walks back off stage, there are literally people chanting her name, like she's a rockstar or something.
you intend to tease her about it, but then you see her and her sweet shy smile, your very obvious kiss mark on her cheek, and her hands nervously clutching her note cards, and something ravenous courses through your bloodstream.
you nearly tackle her to the floor as you launch forward to kiss her. sevika gasps, and her notecards go flying as her hands reach up to hold you tight. fuck you love her. she's the most incredible woman you've ever met.
"sev." you whisper between kisses you can't stop pressing to her skin. "sevika."
"y-yeah?" she asks, her voice squeaky and excited.
"can i blow you in the bathroom, please?" you ask. "want you so fuckin' bad."
sevika shivers full bodied and lets out a shudder before she grabs your wrist and starts sprinting toward the bathroom. you cackle the entire way.
your favorite thing about this venue is that they have plenty of single stall bathrooms. you and sevika have used this feature to your convenience many times over the years.
sevika's already rock hard in her trousers by the time you lock the door and pin her to the wall. she's clawing at you, whimpering as she tries to catch your lips in a kiss. you giggle, cupping her jaw and kissing her soundly, shoving your tongue in her mouth to calm her down a bit.
sevika sighs heavily, and you pull away, gasping a breath before dropping to your knees.
"fuck. i'm not gonna last, baby, fuck." sevika whines as you paw at her pants. you giggle.
"you better. want you to cum inside my cunt, love." you say.
sevika makes a pained noise, and her dick jumps in her boxers. you laugh. "you better touch yourself while you're suckin' me then." she says. "want you to cum with me."
it's your turn to shiver. you claw at her boxers, a little growl escaping you when her cock's finally revealed to you. "fuck." you grunt, before leaning forward and just pressing your face against her cock.
sevika sighs dreamily, reaching down to cup your face as you nuzzle her dick. "so pretty on your knees." she whispers. you smile up at her. "lemme see you touch yourself." sevika requests. you shove a hand down your waistband, rubbing your wet clit with your fingers as you rub your face against her length. "that's it, baby. fuck. now put your mouth on me, love."
you're needy for her, so needy that you take a little too much of her at once, gagging loudly on her cock.
sevika moans at the feeling then laughs at the embarrassment on your face when you pull back and catch your breath before trying again.
"don' laugh at me." you pout, spitting on her dick and jerking her while you blink back your tears.
"'s just cute baby. so fuckin' needy for me you choke yourself on it." she sighs.
you shiver a little. you can't really deny that. "you did amazing, by the way." you whisper. "you always do."
sevika's shoulders scrunch up to her ears, and her eyes dart away from yours. you giggle. "shush. you aren't supposed to be talking right now."
you laugh and kiss her wrist, then try again, taking her back in your mouth and slowly working down her cock.
sevika melts against the wall behind her, and her eyes fly back to yours. you hum around her and she groans. "shit, i'm not gonna last, baby, fuck." sevika whines as she starts thrusting into her mouth.
drool is trailing down your chin and into a puddle on the floor, and when sevika's thigh starts shaking you sink two fingers into your cunt, getting ready to take her.
"fuck, i love you." sevika whines. "i love you so much, baby, love your fuckin' mouth, love fuckin' your mouth--" she cuts herself off with a little giggle, and then she groans. "off-- off-- pull off baby, i'm gonnahh!" sevika shudders as you pull away right before her orgasm. she glares down at you, and you giggle, kissing her clothed thigh. "get up here." she growls, tugging you to your feet and roughly shoving you back against the sink.
you grin, shimmying out of your pants with sevika's help, kissing her anywhere you can reach as she hauls you up.
"you ready for me?" she asks, rubbing her cock against your soaked folds. you whine and nod.
"been ready for you since you put that suit on." you tease.
sevika just chuckles and pushes in, both of you groaning at the feeling.
"oh fuck, please tell me you're close." sevika whines, ducking down to bite at your neck as she starts hammering into you.
your hand flies to your clit, rubbing quick little circles against it in time with her thrusts. "s-so close." you whimper.
sevika shivers at your answer, then lifts up to kiss you on the lips. "i love you so much." she whispers.
"p-please cum inside me, sev, wanna make you feel good."
"y-you always do baby, fuck!" she shouts as she fills you up, cumming and shivering against you.
you grin, satisfaction and pleasure filling you equally until you're falling apart around her, laughing and moaning as you pull sevika to your chest.
"you really did do amazing, you know." you sigh after you catch your breath.
sevika smiles against you. "i know. practiced really hard last night, my wife finds it sexy when i give speeches."
"your wife finds it sexy when you do anything, love." you correct her. she grins.
"can we go home now?" she asks.
you giggle and nod. "kinda have to babe. my shirts covered in drool, and i'm sure we got cum somewhere on your pants or something." you say.
sevika cackles.

During Hitler's first five years in power, the Nazis did a great deal to make the lives of Jews miserable. They revoked their citizenship, ejected Jewish students from German schools, boycotted Jewish stores, and banned Jews from a large number of professions. On occasion, individual Jews were sent to concentration camps; the Nazis, however, had not yet created death camps and, remarkably enough, people were sometimes released from concentration camps and allowed to go home.
On the night of November 9-10, 1938, the Nazis' discriminatory policy toward the Jews changed to wholesale violence as they carried out the largest pogrom in the history of the world. The official pretext for this action was the killing in Paris of a low-level Nazi diplomat by a seventeen-year-old Jewish boy, Herschel Grynspan. The boy's Polish-born parents had been deported several weeks earlier from Germany back to Poland. The Poles, however, refused to accept Grynspan's parents, along with seventeen thousand other Polish-born Jews deported by the Nazis. These unfortunate Jewish refugees were left to rot, penniless, in the no-man's land separating Germany and Poland. Cut off from contact with his parents, Gwynspan shot the German official in retaliation. When the man died, the Nazis decided to punish all of German Jewry for Grynspan's deed.
The pogrom that ensured became known as Kristallnacht, the night of the broken glass. On that night, the glass windows in almost every German synagogue, and in most Jewish-owned businesses, were shattered. Shattered, too, were the lives of almost all German Jews. Ninety-one Jews were murdered during Kristallnacht; thirty thousand more were arrested and sent to concentration camps, where hundreds of them died.
World leaders denounced the Nazi pogrom, and American Jewry reacted by forming the United Jewish Appeal, which soon became the greatest fundraising organization in Jewish history. The Nazis scoffed at the protests. They announced that Kristallnacht had been carried out in honor of the birthday of Martin Luther, the sixteenth century antisemitic religious reformer whom Hitler greatly admired. The Nazis also announced the imposition of a one-billion-mark fine against the Jews; they would be forced to pay for the damage the Germans had inflicted on their synagogues and property.
German Jewry now knew that their situation was hopeless. While large numbers of them had left Germany during the first five years of Nazi rule, half of the community of 600,000 had remained, hoping that Nazi antisemitism would moderate. After Kristallnacht, they recognized that such thinking was illusory; between that event and the outbreak of World War II, less than ten months later, virtually every Jew in Germany tried to emigrate. Few countries, however, were willing to accept them. The British imposed a White Paper in Palestine to ensure that it not become a haven for Jews fleeing Hitler. Some of the Jews who tried to emigrate to the United States succeeded; most did not. In Canada a high government official was asked how many Jewish immigrants the country could accommodate. "None is too many," he answered.
It is no coincidence that Kristallnacht brought about the formation of the United Jewish Appeal, later to become a major financial supporter of Israel. More than any other event of the time, Kristallnacht converted large numbers of Jews into Zionists; the price of not having a Jewish state, they realized, was too, too high.

Does that mean you’ll still react to Lily’s bad media takes? Because honestly, between what you, Ant and Crim (whom I understand doesn’t want to part take in the Lily Slop anymore, I respect) have accomplished by calling Lily out and her actively attacking you guys helps shows her true colors, especially when she was falsely striking y’all. It has affected Lily’s channel, her views have been at an all time low and I’m sure that’s hurting her financially too.
You guys also helped a lot of people realize how toxic Lily can be and how she constantly talks nonsense. Not too mention with her crimes, Lilly is a walking red flag with all the high intimacy siblings stuff that it goes into her work, she has a clear pattern of behavior that always links back to the crimes against her. Girl is having coffee at the screen of the crime but weaves so many lies to deny it that she can’t keep her story straight.
My heart goes out to Courtney and wishing her justice, but you guys dissecting Lily’s lack of media literacy has also help spread more awareness of her having no authority over anything as well as damaging her views. So while I understand not wanting to talk over or for victims, you’ve all still contributed awareness of how dangerous Lily can still be.
Well if Lily is dumb enough to do a video on Dragon Age you bet I will. But even my audience is losing interest in her, she didn't even come close in my last poll about what they want my next react stream to be.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/878eaa5c597c7e3d34fb071bd68d94ed/6cae40f8787861a3-92/s540x810/e998eecc33a283584161f01293360011ad8db4ab.jpg)
I had a stream before Lily, it was just on Twitch, and I'm not going to apologize for seizing the opportunity handed to me when I suddenly found myself with a new audience and a new income stream on YouTube.
I've been very transparent from the start that I'm an entertainer first and foremost and ill-equipped to speak in depth on the crimes I believe Lily is guilty of.
But I also can't ignore them. So I keep on her ass with this sideblog full of receipts. I mention the gross shit she's said and done every stream on her. Ant and I have been trying to get YouTube to take her copyright system abuse seriously which could terminate her channel.
But beyond direct legal action all the rest of us can do is keep calling attention to what a degenerate she is, annoy her, point out what a shit content creator she is in the first place, and chip away at her reputation. Sue me that I want to have fun along the way with the skillset I do have.
And not to toot my own horn but she's dropped over 2,000 subs since I came on the scene.
You will be seeing edits of past Lily streams coming out though. I'm starting to pay editors to help me with that. 😁

I believe that understanding the ins and outs of managing our finances is essential in our quest for leveling up in life. After all, what good is achieving our dreams if we're not equipped with the knowledge and tools to sustain and grow our success? So how did I do it?
1. Living with parents while in school
While I had the advantage of fewer bills to pay, I still encountered challenges in managing my finances effectively. In the past, I used to blow money like it was nothing, with little to no savings to show for it. However, recognizing the opportunity to change my habits, I embarked on a journey of financial education, starting with reading "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki. Over the course of 6-12 months, I diligently saved and invested most of my income, laying the groundwork for my financial future. This disciplined approach not only helped me build a healthy relationship with money but also demonstrated to the bank that I was responsible and capable of handling a credit card. It was only after this period of financial growth and learning that I felt confident enough to apply for my first credit card. After being rejected 3 times prior!
2. Become Delusional as F**k
The biggest change in my relationship with money came when I realized that it's not inherently bad; I have a good relationship with money, and money works for me—this is my reality i lived in even during the times I was broke. I remained delusional in my belief that financialsuccess for me was attainable, and remarkably, it worked. This perspective empowered me to view money as a tool for creating wealth rather than something to fear. I learned to use a credit card to work for me, not as a slave to debt, and discovered how to leverage debt to make more money. This shift in mindset helped me overcome financial fears and embrace opportunities for growth.

How to make a credit card work for you
Keep Low Credit Utilization:
Aim to keep your credit card balances low relative to your credit limits. This utilization ratio should ideally be below 30%, with lower percentages being even better. High credit utilization can negatively impact your credit score.
Pay On Time, DONT MISS PAYMENTS
Consistently paying your credit card bills on time is crucial for maintaining a high credit score. Late payments can significantly damage your credit score and stay on your credit report for years.
Keep Old Accounts Open:
The length of your credit history is an essential factor in determining your credit score. Keeping old credit card accounts open, even if you're not actively using them, can help lengthen your credit history and improve your score.
Monitor Your Credit Report:
Reviewing your credit report allows you to identify any errors or inaccuracies that could be negatively impacting your score. You're entitled to a free credit report from each of the major credit bureaus—Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion—once every 12 months.
Avoid Closing Old Accounts
Closing old credit card accounts can shorten your credit history and reduce your overall available credit, both of which can lower your credit score. Unless the account carries high fees or you're unable to manage it responsibly, consider keeping it open.
Conclusion:
Through disciplined financial habits and strategic planning, I achieved and maintained a high credit score. This journey is only the beginning of my commitment to financial responsibility. Im bored so here is an analysis of how G*be Uglyano affected the way Percy would feel, behave, think, and basically live forever.
TRIGGER WARNING!!!!!!!!! abuse, mention of sa, g*be uglyano, suicidal ideation, etc.
First up, financial abuse:
In the first book, G*be says something along the lines of “this is coming out of your clothing money” when Percy and Sally are leaving for Montauk. This is an example of financial or economic abuse, where one partner in an intimate relationship has control over the other’s finances and economic resources, causing the victim to lose their capacity to support themselves and forcing them to rely solely on the partner.
G*be also steals Percy’s money, which is also another form of financial abuse, although not intimate. This most likely affected Percy’s view of his own money, and how to share his money with others later in his relationship (i.e. whether or not to have joint checking accounts with annabeth, buying a house with annabeth, etc.) It also could affect how he views the money he has in general. He often does not feel like it’s actually HIS money, or feels like he is supposed to give his money to somebody. The way G*be took over Percy’s room with his stuff also affected the way Percy would view his own place and things. He feels almost possessive of his stuff, he feels like the things he owns aren’t really his.
Next, mental/emotional abuse:
G*be makes fun of or humiliates Percy at least 3 times in the books, but based on the knowledge we have and me having basic media literacy skills, it happened a lot more than those few instances (Percy and G*be don’t exactly interact very often in the books.
This is emotional or psychological abuse.
Emotional and psychological abuse can include purposely humiliating, trying to scare, isolating, neglecting, or debilitating a child (we see Gabe humiliate, neglect, and debilitate Percy.) Emotional abuse can also include constant criticism, rejection, dismissing a child’s feelings, calling the child names (which Gabe does), yelling or swearing very often, threats, and allowing the child to witness domestic violence and abuse.
While any child can be a victim of child abuse, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognize that children living in poverty (which Percy was) are at greater risk.
Signs of emotional abuse in children include watchful demeanor, aggression or anger, overly passive or compliant behavior, nervousness around certain people, a tendency to avoid being around certain people, withdrawn or unresponsive demeanor, and low self esteem. All of these can apply to Percy. Children in dysfunctional environments such as Percy’s can believe that everything is normal because that is all they have ever known
Emotional abuse can also lead to cognitive abilities such as trouble focusing, learning, and remembering; academic issues; mental health conditions such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, and low self esteem; emotional difficulties such as interpreting, communicating, processing, and regulating emotions; substance use such as nicotine, drugs, and alcohol abuse starting at a young age; and behavioral issues such as acting out, behaving weirdly, and trying extremely hard to please others.
Changes in weight (such as eating disorders, nutrition deficiencies, and malnourishment), sleep issues (such as insomnia, night terrors, or nightmares), physical aches and pains (they don’t have any other discernible cause and don’t seem to get better with treatment), career issues (as a result of lower educational attainment, limited employment opportunities, and an increased risk of delinquency), and relationship issues due to mostly unhealthy dynamics being modeled.
Children with abusive role models are more likely to seek out others who are abusive because it is the dynamic they are used to seeing, or they become abusive themselves. (This is known as the intergenerational cycle of violence.)
All this being said, most of these behaviors and effects can be applied to Percy and we can see the effects of Gabe’s abuse in Percy’s actions and thoughts later in the book.
Percy and Annabeth (while they have an awesome relationship and they REALLY love each other) do not have the healthiest dynamic. Annabeth can often neglect some of Percy’s needs. I AM NOT ACCUSING ANNABETH OF BEING ABUSIVE OR CALLING HER A BAD GIRLFRIEND, HER ACTIONS ARE ALL BECAUSE OF HER OWN TRAUMA. And Percy can sometimes get a little overprotective (caused from having to protect his mom from Gabe) and put himself down (from Gabe constantly criticizing him and putting him down.)
Percy also has trouble trusting and being extremely intimate with Annabeth (as does she with him), reflecting his attachment issues. His emotions and feeling were neglected when he was a child, so he now cannot express or communicate them healthily (or at all) as an adult.
Percy also often puts himself down before others get the chance, because he automatically assumes everyone will. This happens both in a joking manner to others and in his own thoughts, and reflects his low self esteem. It also affects his sense of identity and who he is as a person, leading to him questioning whether or not he is a good person (as we see his do on multiple occasions.)
These effects can result in negative coping mechanisms, such as substance abuse or self-harming. This ties into my stress smoking and smoking in general headcanon that i have for Percy (because we all know that he would not touch a drink after Gabe.)
Then, physical abuse:
In the first book, there is a quote of Percy saying that if he told his mom about Gabe’s financial abuse, Gabe would punch his lights out. Now, anybody with any media literacy skills at all can tell that this is referring to physical abuse. (Sorry, that was a bit intense and offensive.)
Okay, so Percy was physically abused by someone who was supposed to be a trusted parental figure (even though g*be definitely wasn’t trusted.) This, just like with most children, DEEPLY affected Percy. He has trouble maintaining relationships, he doesn’t trust or respect authority figures, and he doesn’t feel good about himself or see himself as worthy.
These are just a few of the effects the physical abuse he suffered gave him (most overlap with emotional abuse.) Many physical child abuse victims become aggressive themselves and “act out.” Personally, i don’t think this applies to Percy because he didn’t exactly “act out,” the trouble usually just found him. Others will become numb and withdrawn, they don’t seem to care anymore whether they are hurt; they lose the ability to process danger. They also may stop trying to socialize or succeed at school. I feel like this one applies to Percy the most, as well as children becoming more fearful and anxious.
The unpredictability of the abuser can result in a child constantly being in flight or fight mode, which i think we all know Percy lives in. But the constant survival state that he is in didn’t start after the war or after his first quest, we saw traces of that before he even found out who his father is. This can be tied back to Gabe.
This unpredictability and lack of control can also lead the victim to look for control in other places, such as controlling their food intake (developing eating disorders where the person restricts their intake as a way to feel more control), sleep patterns, and can lead the victim to substance abuse. (I reflect most of these in my headcanon videos.)
Low self-esteem:
One of the biggest signs of Percy’s childhood abuse is his low self esteem. I talk about this all the time but Percy absolutely HATES himself. He believes that he is a terrible person and is not worthy of anything. He does not believe he is smart, good looking, or an above average warrior (all of which he is.)
This all stems from so many people telling him that he’s annoying, or not a good person. He was ignored and bullied as a kid from both his peers and G*be (that bullying didn’t stop once he came to camp.) This low self esteem is shown in his thoughts and actions.
He has significantly less regard for himself or his health than he does for anybody else. He has what i would call passive suicidal ideation. He is not actively trying to kill or hurt himself, and he doesn’t have any intention of making a plan, but many of his thoughts surround the idea of him being better off dead, or his family and friends being better off with him gone.
Growing up around dv:
While Percy experienced lots of trauma from G*be, he also experiences trauma from witnessing Sally get trauma from G*be (if that makes sense.) Children who grow up experiencing domestic violence or abuse are often impacted. A few of these short-term impacts are anxiety, PTSD, and frequent headaches and stomachaches. (That can tie into my hc of Percy getting super bad migraines.)
Long-term effects include depression and health problems such as a poor diet. Trauma can also be misdiagnosed for ADHD (not saying Percy isn’t ADHD cs he totally is, a few of his ‘symptoms’ might js actually be his trauma.)
Sexual abuse hints:
This is an extremely sensitive topic so i’m not going to dive too deep into it, but with many abusers that are mentally, physically, and financially abusive, the abusive often extends to sexual abuse, as well. The book says that “He [G*be] called it our ‘guy secret.” The idea of keeping a secret from one’s parents can usually be tied to something sexual, although in this case it was literally referring to financial abuse.
Again, this is an EXTREMELY SENSITIVE AND REAL TOPIC (not saying that the other ones i have talked about aren’t, i js have more evidence for those. this is more far fetched) AND I AM NOT OFFICIALLY HEADCANONING THIS OR ANYTHING. I am simply saying that there may be some hints.
this thing is super long so i hope this makes sense lol
Overall:
G*be sucks. Percy’s traumatized and it affects his actions, thoughts, and relationships (romantic, familial, and platonic.)

hi, about the yunjin starbucks controversy.
i’m gonna try to be as fair as possible talking about this controversy, but i’ll be honest i’m leaning more on yunjin’s side. i’ve been getting several requests on yunjin and i feel like i need to get this off my chest every time i see her name on my page.
let’s start off with the facts: yunjin was caught drinking starbucks in Korea (in front of the company building.)
I thought she drank it on a post or somethrong but no, it was just a few pixels of a low quality picture fans took. And that’s my first minor problem; she wasn’t on live, it wasn’t a post, it was a few milliseconds of pixels. But I get the ‘performative activism’ controversy, it DOES feel like she’s hiding it.
However, my take is that she just got out from her car, and wanna know a little fun fact? Most snacks and drinks that all idols are seen eating are most likely bought by their managers. And it’s a fact that Koreans aren’t currently boycotting Starbucks as actively as western foreigners are. So my thought the first time I saw the picture was that. The manager probably just bought coffee from whatever shop was closest, and handed it to her.
But I do understand how that can feel like reaching so I did some more research .
The biggest thing I have to so called ‘defend’ Yunjin is that Starbucks Korea is completely separate from International Starbucks (source: ChosunBiz).
In 2021, 67.5% of Starbucks was comepletely bought by E-Mart (a branch of Shinsegae), and the rest 32.5% was bought by a Singaporean investment comapny (GIC).
So oh, Starbucks Korea has no affiliations with the part of Starbucks that sues their worker’s union.
However, I can make the argument that Yunjin could influence others to ignore the boycott and buy Starbucks. Is it true that she has several international fans and alot of impressionable fans? Yes.
But then we have to go back to our first argument; it was a few milliseconds of a low quality video.
And after finding that out, I started to feel like all the people commenting about “starbucks queen💕” and “omg whats your starbucks order?” is the problem.
YOU guys are the one promoting Starbucks at this point. Do you understand?
I’m not saying don’t hold someone accountable, no, but I’m saying the comments aren’t fucking helping.
Don’t get me wrong, I do live in Korea, and I have been actively avoiding purchasing from them because I saw a few posts on twitter referencing it. I based an activity on a twitter post. And wanna know when I figured out WHY I was supposed to boycott exactly?
After I deleted Twitter because of the stress I got from the app.
That’s when I finally found out about the BDS list, found out oh, Puma is on the list, McDonalds is an even bigger problem than Starbucks (directly supplying food to soldiers), HP APPARENTLY SUPPLIES TECH FOR THE ISRAEL GOVERNMENT, and oh wow! Starbucks isn’t even on the list because theres not enough proof that they financially fund Israel.
In conclusion, the people preaching about how Yunjin is a performative activist is such hypocrites themselves
It’s clear that while some of the comments and criticisms are genuine, trying to hold a person accountable, but its also clear that the repeat of the same mocking comments of Yunjin is just performative and for attention and likes.
That’s what pisses me off. People who don’t give a shit about Palestine, and people even if they do support Palestine not even doinng the bare minimum amount of research just having fun mocking (not criticizing) a person when a tiny bit of wrong doing is shown.
Please, go look in the mirror, and i dont like saying this but go touch grass, do your own research, dont base off your whole ideology on a reddit post or a twitter, tumblr post, read different variety of news articles from several companies, and THEN make your decision on a situation. Not only Starbucks, not only on Yunjin, but on several other ones too.
Media literacy. Look it up.

I look a lot at how men spend money. How they spend, save, make money. Financial literacy and one’s relationship with money says a lot about how your future with them will look. It tells you a lot about their relationship with themselves. A lot of men make money their whole personality or like to be flashy to feel good about themselves because it hides their low self esteem. A man that can’t save, a man that doesn’t know how to make money, or a man that’s too caught up in flashing their wealth is not a man I would consider for a serious relationship.

Chopping perfectly good cars into mutant hot rods is something that doesn't make a lot of sense on paper. Financially, it's one of the worst things you can do: virtually nobody wants to buy your modified car afterward, and certainly not for a huge profit. Not to mention all the time, sweat, tears, and broken parts you'll throw at it. No, making your own dream car is an artistic endeavour you must walk for your own satisfaction.
Me, I thought that my dream car would be some kind of elaborately-modified Baja Bug. Start with a cute, innocent Volkswagen Beetle, and then turn it into a horrifying off-road vehicle capable of swallowing up dunes and outrunning the cops. Then I realized how much more money the "cheap" Beetles are now as opposed to when they were getting chopped up for scrap metal last time. Not for me.
It turns out that what is for me is not one car. Only a platoon of shitty, often-brown, 1970s premium-economy cars can "do it" for me. If you've got diamond-pleated leather, an available CB radio option, some kind of sneezy low-compression engine, and crank windows that don't work, I'll be right there. And as for modifications, I don't do too many of those either. I'm too busy fixing all of these crapcans, you see.
Still, there is an appeal held in the classic hot-rodding sense. Last week, I put a bumper sticker on the trunk of my '77 Cordoba. I got it from the crunchy granola bookstore down the street that got turned into a corporate crunchy granola bookstore last summer. It says "We Support Whale Literacy." I have no idea what it means, but that's okay. Everyone can come up with their own interpretation, which makes it true modified-automobile art.

Chaos Gallavich Headcanon time:
In season 11, the first conflict Ian and Mickey have is Mickey spending all the money they got when they got married, leaving Ian to find a shoebox full of IOUs and be very pissed off.
And to me, this is such a logical conflict for them that I actually appreciate as their first in a marriage. Finances! Though they are both low class, same neighborhood, etc. They handle money very differently, and its been part of the show the whole time, but we get to see it come to a head in the final season.
So we see a lot of the Gallagher money struggles in the show. We see how they work odd jobs and all pitch in to make ends meet and squirrel away extra money for the winter months when it seems random jobs are harder to come by or bills get more expensive or Christmas or whatever. The Gallaghers work as a unit when it comes to money.
Looking at Ian specifically, we see how his Gallagher-giving mentality expanded to Mandy and Mickey and anyone he considers family. He puts money in Mickey's commissary, raises money for Mandy's abortion, and even in his mania when he is the most in need of help himself, he figures out a way to make money to support Mickey, his wife, and his child.
And even later, when Ian has a good job and most of the Gallaghers are financially getting by and he's had enough extra money to start saving, he gives it to mickey. All of it.
On the flip side, though we don't get the kind of insight into the Milkoviches that we do with the Gallaghers when it comes to finances, Mickey seems to be more impulsive and selfish with money.
The Milkoviches don't strike me as a group to honestly fork over everything they have. Most likely, they don't even split profits easily over jobs. I do think quick math comes naturally to Mickey, but I also think he learned young to count the money he's worth, and he's owed.
The problem arises when he has money or access to money. He drops multiple bills on the bisquick when he doesn't need to, spends the money frivolously until it's all gone, and he moves on to the next con. We always see Mickey working and trying to make money, and yet where is it? I don't think he's capable of squirreling away, of saving, of thinking long term with his money.
That's why when he sees their wedding money sitting in a box not being used, he just starts spending it. And he leaves IOUs because in his mind he'll make that money back and more with the next scheme. And he's not really proven wrong.
Anyway, I feel like I could talk for ages about their financial literacy and how it impacts their relationship but the writers decided it'd only last a few epsiodes and they'd focus on questioning their desire for monogamy so... 🙃

Ladies, vote for yourself and those denied the right
Dhurnal (Pakistan) (AFP) – Perched on her traditional charpai bed, Naeem Kausir says she would like to vote in Pakistan's upcoming election -- if only the men in her family would let her.
Issued on: 05/02/2024 - 08:41

Like all the women in her town, the 60-year-old former headmistress and her seven daughters -- six already university educated -- are forbidden from voting by their male elders.
"Whether by her husband, father, son or brother, a woman is forced. She lacks the autonomy to make decisions independently," said Kausir, covered in a veil in the courtyard of her home.
"These men lack the courage to grant women their rights," the widow told AFP.
Although voting is a constitutional right for all adults in Pakistan, some rural areas in the socially conservative country are still ruled by a patriarchal system of male village elders who wield significant influence in their communities.
In the village of Dhurnal in Punjab, spread across crop fields and home to several thousand people, men profess myriad reasons for the ban of more than 50 years.
"Several years ago, during a period of low literacy rates, a council chairman decreed that if men went out to vote, and women followed suit, who would manage the household and childcare responsibilities?" said Malik Muhammad, a member of the village council.
"This disruption, just for one vote, was deemed unnecessary," he concluded.

Muhammad Aslam, a shopkeeper, claims it is to protect women from "local hostilities" about politics, including a distant occasion that few seem to remember in the village when an argument broke out at a polling station.
Others told AFP it was simply down to "tradition".
First Muslim woman leader
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has stressed that it has the authority to declare the process null and void in any constituency where women are barred from participating.
In reality, progress has been slow outside of cities and in areas that operate under tribal norms, with millions of women still missing from the electoral rolls.

The elders in Dhurnal rely on neighbouring villages to fill a government-imposed quota which maintains that 10 percent of votes cast in every constituency must be by women.
Those who are allowed to vote are often pressured to pick a candidate of a male relative's choice.
In the mountainous region of Kohistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province home to almost 800,000 people, religious clerics last month decreed it un-Islamic for women to take part in electoral campaigns.
Although voting is a constitutional right for all adults in Pakistan, some rural areas in the socially conservative country are still ruled by a patriarchal system of male village elders who wield significant influence in their communities © Farooq NAEEM / AFP
Fatima Tu Zara Butt, a legal expert and a women's rights activist, said women are allowed to vote in Islam, but that religion is often exploited or misunderstood in Pakistan.
"Regardless of their level of education or financial stability, women in Pakistan can only make decisions with the 'support' of the men around them," she said.
Pakistan famously elected the world's first Muslim woman leader in 1988 -- Benazir Bhutto, who introduced policies that boosted education and access to money for women, and fought against religious extremism after military dictator Zia ul-Haq had introduced a new era of Islamisation that rolled back women's rights.
However, more than 30 years later, only 355 women are competing for national assembly seats in Thursday's election, compared to 6,094 men, the election commission has said.
Pakistan reserves 60 of the 342 National Assembly seats for women and 10 for religious minorities in the Muslim-majority country, but political parties rarely allow women to contest outside of this quota.
Those who do stand often do so only with the backing of male relatives who are already established in local politics.
"I have never seen any independent candidates contesting elections on their own," Zara Butt added.
'Everyone's right'
Forty-year-old Robina Kausir, a healthcare worker, said a growing number of women in Dhurnal want to exercise their right to vote but they fear backlash from the community if they do -- particularly the looming threat of divorce, a matter of great shame in Pakistani culture.
She credits part of the shift to access to information as a result of the rising use of smartphones and social media.
"These men instil fear in their women many threaten their wives," she told AFP.
Robina, backed by her husband, is one of the few prepared to take the risk.
When cricketing legend Imran Khan swept to power in the 2018 election, Robina arranged for a minibus to take women to the local polling station.
Only a handful joined her, but she still marked it as a success and will do the same on Thursday's election.
"I was abused but I do not care, I will keep fighting for everyone's right to vote," Robina said.

Hi! How are you? I hope you are doing great. What does it mean when lord of second house i.e. Jupiter is placed in house of virgo (8th house) along with Mars and Venus in D1 chart?
2H RULER IN THE 8H ENERGY IN D1 CHART
8H virgo jupiter + mars + venus
❊ you may be someone who is attuned to transformation and the challenges but eventual blessings it may bring.
❊ you likely are a private person, especially when it comes to your finances and love life. this secrecy isn’t due to having anything to hide but stems from the peace of protecting your inner world. if not, the hidden nature could be from a deep-seated lack of trust in others.
❊ your intuition is one of your greatest strengths – you have a natural ability to understand hidden meanings and read between the lines that others would overlook. you may receive insights through vivid dreams or subconscious cues, allowing you to gain knowledge and perfect your innate skills.
❊ when it comes to finances, you may have strong financial literacy skills and strong potential for accumulating wealth, especially through wills, investments, inheritance or shared resources (business and spouse).
❊ this placement is favorable for property and land development, especially in foreign lands but your financial situation may be cyclical, going through periods of transformation. though with 8H jupiter, you can't have the lows without the highs, meaning that financial opportunities tend to always work in your favor over time and you will always land on your feet!
❊ your self-worth is closely tied to your work ethic and service-oriented nature. you take great pride in productivity and may fear that without your acclimated work ethic, you’re wasted potential. you tend to be highly critical, especially of yourself. your self-criticism may also impact your confidence, making you your own worst critic. because of this, you likely thrive on routine and detailed planning as it provides a sense of stability and peace.
❊ you may often experience unexpected events, especially concerning family matters. what may work for you is to have a structured plan in place to safeguard your ability in handling those situations effectively.
❊ you may find yourself drawn to hidden knowledge, mysticism, astrology and the occult. with these passions, you may seek a deeper self-awareness through research to cultivate a strong sense of self-worth that inspires you to share your knowledge with others!
❊ you likely tend to keep your partnerships private as a way to honor the connection. financially, you are likely to benefit through partnerships, especially in marriage.
❊ you may attract a generous spouse who enjoys providing for you. joint finances may be a significant source of wealth, especially with 8H venus and jupiter. if there are no afflictions, your relationship with your spouse’s family is likely to be harmonious!
❊ you may have a strong willpower and inner strength, allowing you to overcome challenges with resilience. your well-being, especially mental health, is a priority and your happiness is not easily swayed by external pressure.
❊ you may truly enjoy the comfort of your own space as the home tends to be your sanctuary for mental clarity and peace.
❊ your family may play a significant role and you likely have a deep attachment to both your loved ones and your cultural roots. if there are afflictions, your childhood may have come with challenges, but you still uphold traditional values and reciprocate love and respect to others.
❊ you may be highly observant and adjust your affection based on others’ behaviors.
❊ sexual intimacy is deeply important to you but if afflicted, this can manifest as sexual addiction or emotional stress.
❊ you may also idealize partners, which can lead to turbulence in love. with this, your self-worth can become tied to validation, creating push-pull dynamics and emotional highs and lows in your romantic relationships. in the end, you may have a tendency in staying in draining relationships or attracting toxic cycles.
❊ open communication may be crucial for you in your relationships. you crave deep emotional and intellectual intimacy, especially through meaningful conversations, as they strengthen your connection and understanding with your partner.
❊ at your core, you are kind, caring, and deeply giving. you may also naturally look after others and extend that kindness to the world!
these are just a few points that came to mind but i strongly advise doing more research on your placements to gain a better understanding. there's a lot more to consider, especially when looking at aspects and the overall chart. still, i hope this helped in some way!

In literacy in the USA news!
The summary is that parents are suing the people who sold reading curriculum to the Massachusetts school system. These curriculum allegedly ignored decades of science on the efficacy of phonics teaching in reading and literacy, and focused instead on "picture power". The parents allege that they had to pay for private tutors to help their children learn to read proficiently.

In what appears to be a first-of-its-kind consumer protection lawsuit, two Massachusetts families are suing famed literacy specialists Lucy Calkins, Irene Fountas, and Gay Su Pinnell, their companies, and their publishers, alleging the former teachers used “deceptive and fraudulent” marketing practices to sell curriculums that ignored the scientific consensus about the importance of phonics to early reading.
The lawsuit, expected to be filed Wednesday in Suffolk Superior Court, alleges three minors, identified in the complaint by their initials, suffered developmental and emotional injuries, while their parents, identified as Karrie Conley of Boxborough and Michelle Hudak of Ashland, suffered financial losses, having paid for tutoring and private school tuition to compensate for the flawed reading curriculums used by their children’s public schools.
“I trusted that when I was sending my children off to school, they were getting instruction that had been tested and proven effective,” Konley said during a virtual press conference Wednesday morning. “... This isn’t some luxury we’re asking for. This is reading.”
The lawsuit, shared with the Globe in advance, alleges the defendants ignored a plethora of research demonstrating the importance of phonics, or the relationship between letters and sounds, in creating, marketing, and selling their early literacy products and services. The omission of phonics from their curriculums was intentional, despite widely known evidence of its importance, the complaint alleges.
“Defendants denigrated phonics at worst and paid mere lip service to phonics at best,” the lawsuit reads.
A lawsuit represents only one side of a complaint. Representatives for the defendants did not return an immediate request for comment, though Calkins, Fountas, and Pinnell have in the past denied any wrongdoing.
The Massachusetts lawsuit represents a new step in the early literacy advocacy movement and could spur new complaints like it nationwide. It follows several years of heightened debate surrounding the “science of reading,” a broad body of research demonstrating how the brain learns to read and which shows a firm grasp on phonics to be key to early reading success.
At issue in the complaint is whether the literacy authors knowingly ignored scientific research and purposely sold “defective and deficient” curriculums to school districts across Massachusetts. The lawsuit argues the authors and their publishers did and in doing so broke a state consumer protection law.
“Defendants knew or should have known they were committing unfair and deceptive acts,” the complaint reads.
Rather than emphasizing phonics, or the sounding out of words, Fountas and Pinnell, longtime publishing partners, and Calkins have come under increasing scrutiny for their curriculums’ cueing directions, which instruct children to, for example, look at a picture for context in helping determine an unknown word. In Calkins’s curriculum, Units of Study, this skill has been called “picture power.”
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, which considers the defendants’ curriculums to be low quality, has doled out millions of dollars in grant money to help local school districts purchase new materials grounded in reading science. A 2023 Globe investigation found nearly half of all school districts in the state were using a low-quality curriculum in their elementary schools, and, of those, nearly 3 in 4 were using either Calkins’s or Fountas and Pinnell’s materials.
