my thoughts on Charlastor and Alastor calling Charlie "the daughter he never had"

this will be a very long rant/vent/whatever. also, a kind of... agressive one. if u wanna read, read it, if u don't, don't, idc and idm. I don't know if some antis take things for convenience (that way) or if they really are naive, because the fact that a manipulative guy like Alastor, whose intentions are unknown, tells Charlie that he sees her as "the daughter he never had" DOES NOT SOUND as CUTE to me as many DO seem to think it does.

I don't know if they don't realize the relationship Charlie has with her parents and how Alastor seems to take advantage of her.

From the pilot we realize that Charlie has no contact with her mother. In the series it is established that they have not seen each other for 7 years.

The first episode JUST talks about Charlie having so called "daddy issues" as her father, Lucifer, is an absentee father.

Charlie appears to NOT have had a close relationship with ANY of the two for some time (or quite some time).

The only person Charlie has is Vaggie, to protect and care for her (here's why Vaggie is so "boring", as some people call her, as she is acting as a guide/parental figure for Charlie, even though their relationship is romantic).

Where am I going with these points? That I think it's complete nonsense for people to take super-literally what Alastor has said: "you're like the daughter I always wanted to have".

Isn't it convenient for the most feared overlord (not the strongest) to approach Charlie and find that she's not as vulnerable as he thought (because Vaggie is there)? Isn't it convenient for Alastor to make a very absolute polarity between Vaggie and him in the pilot, where Vaggie comes off as the "bitter one" and he as the "fun guy"? Isn't it convenient for Alastor to PROVE to Charlie over and over again that HE knows what SHE NEEDS by pulling his tricks? And, oh, surprise… Isn't it even more convenient that when Lucifer arrives, who has a lousy relationship with his daughter, Charlie, Alastor rubs it in his face that he is doing everything that he (Lucifer) is responsible for, and furthermore, hits him right where it hurts, manipulating Charlie so that she seriously BELIEVES that Alastor REALLY sees her that way, and thus making her STILL not have a GUIDE other than HIMSELF?

I'll make it simple for you. You know how narcissists work? They will make you believe that YOU are special, and at the same time, they will ALIENATE you from your loved ones to keep gaining whatever they need from you. Charlie is, literally, his supply.

Alastor is a psychopath and narcissist. Do you really think that someone who can't genuinely empathize and love is literally going to feel affection for a grown woman who is very naive and doesn't even have power over her kingdom because she is so immature? Don't you think it is VERY OBVIOUS that he has literally said to her face: "I'm going to manipulate you in my favor because thanks to me you have all these upgrades in your stupid hotel"?

Alastor hasn't as such made a deal with Charlie, but he's winning her over in HIS way.

And I don't know who's crazier: charlastor shippers like me, who don't give a damn about canon and want to enjoy shipping WITHOUT bothering ANYONE (and don't come out with the stupidity that it's a "proship". Proshipper doesn't even mean "problematic ship", it means that you are FOR shipping whatever you want, living and letting live, without HARASSING others. Let's remember that Hazbin Hotel characters DON'T. FUCKING. EXIST. Alastor is not going to come out of the screen to say: "omg, user, thanks for defending me from those evil shippers uwu", or Charlie to say: "thanks for defending me, you're so good, user…. You're such a good person". Pro: "in favor of", shipper: "shipper, ship", however you want to call it. Don't modify terms to suit yourselves because you can tell that many don't even know how suffixes and prefixes work in words. Neither Charlie nor Alastor are going to die because someone shipped them. They are FICTITIOUS characters. The FANON is not going to change the CANON. Learn to sepparate stuff, ffs. Go out and touch grass once in a while) or antis who put on a pedestal what Alastor said, believing it as a justification to ATTACK people in the fandom who shipped something different, according to them, "problematic".

There they do forget that Alastor is a manipulator, that he is a person with a LOT of arsenal to get his way. There they forget that he IS a guy Charlie should NOT trust. There it DOES count because IT CONVENIENTS THEM. That's when the canon MATTERS to them. There it COUNTS. It doesn't matter if Charlie gets hurt because of trusting Alastor, they only see what they want to see. If you guys are going to humanize this fucking characters, at least be a little bit logical. Got me? Remember what Viv said?: "ship whatever you want, JUST DON'T HARASS ANYONE". These people say: "fuck what Viv says", but on this occasion, since she DID say something convenient for them, it DOES matter what Viv says now, doesn't it? Hypocrites.

Charlie has no one beyond Alastor, and I don't remember where I read that theory, whether it was here or elsewhere, where they talked about Alastor looking for a way to alienate the hotel itself in one way or another. That's why he doesn't use very flashy technology (Vox can travel through the latest electronics, and the hotel has an old box TV), nor does he go out of his way to provide anything of good quality (like the video camera). The hotel has its own power supply (we see this when the blackout occurs during the song between Alastor and Vox).

Alastor DOES NOT WANT Charlie as his daughter, he's just taking advantage of her to get whatever he needs to get out of her.

Charlie doesn't even seem to know exactly how her powers work, and the only person who can teach her is Lucifer, her father. And if Lucifer is out of the equation, Alastor can do whatever he wants.

He's hit Lucifer right in the jugular, and Lucifer knows that all the power in the world can't make up for the wrong he did to Charlie.

Anyway, if a real anti thinks Charlastor is problematic because "AlASTor AlreADy SaiD hE sEES hEr As a DauGhtER," I remind them that they are not dealing with a character who cares about others beyond maintaining his own status, and ffs... they're not even real. KEEP SHIPPING. KEEP DRAWING. KEEP MAKING FANFICS. FUCK THESE PEOPLE THAT TRY TO HARASS YOU, FUCK THESE PEOPLE THAT TRY TO MAKE EVERYTHING "PURE" ON A SHOW ABOUT DEMONS AND HELL. Rapid fire Fairy Tail rewatch thoughts. May or May not expand upon each point later on.

THIS IS LONG AS HELL BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHEN TO SHUT UP.

for reference, I've reached tartaros so far. I am aware of the canon happenings after that tho.

The female cast is so good idc what anyone says obviously the fanservice is awful BUT I will say, in the earlier arcs, it actually felt decently balanced because of Gray's whole stripping shtick + Natsu's cunty vest wasn't particularly modest either LOL.

Erza is such a wonderful character. I've seen comments that she goes downhill like 100yq onwards but. Um. 100yq characterisation.... that's a whole post of its own.

I never expected to like Lucy so much. idc that it takes her like 200 episodes to win a fight solo because when she FINALLY DOES IT WAS THE BEST MOMENT OF THE SERIES BY FAR. characters who's defining traits r kindness and compassion <33

Interesting how Lucy is the traditional shounen protag (underdog, skills develop overtime) because the rest of team Natsu sans Wendy were all like ... already kinda OP established mages even at the beginning.

I know there are debates ab who really is the protag and imo the narrative skews towards Natsu more BUT. it's bizarre how unexplored he is for a main character. Like yes he is my favourite character other than Lucy but his inner psyche is barely explored it's so weird. He doesn't really have a character arc either??? I'll expand on this more once I finish post tartaros (lolll not looking forward to that) and once again it seems like he's completely regressed from what I've seen of 100yq.

I fucking love all the ships.

I don't agree with comments that Natsu can't be traditionally romantic. Like, I definitely don't think he would ever have the natural inclination to be that way as a part of his character on its own. BUT considering iconic rainbow sakura moment I fully believe he would do whatever it is that would make Lucy happy. And if that includes red roses and candlelit dinners he would absolutely try his best.

Nalu moments r seriously. so good.

I totally see why Juvia stans don't like gruvia. But unfortunately I like them. And I've slightly rewritten them in my head so that juvia doesn't get completely flanderized LOL.

the Natsu Erza Gray sibling relationship goes soooo hard.

Just in general there's something beautiful about the way Fairy Tail handles it's numerous platonic and romantic relationships. Nothing feels secondary yk. Everything is given its due time (except maybe NALU goddammit).

I LOVE THAT FEMALE CHARACTERS HAVE DEEP COMPLEX RELATIONSHIPS IRRELEVANT TO THE MALE CAST. Lucy and Levy, Lucy and Yukino, whatever combination between Erza Lucy Wendy, Lucy Flare, Wendy Shelia, Wendy Carla etc

Even when the relationship involves a man in some kind of way like eg Lucy Cana or Erza Kagura it's still not like... in a bad way. The friendship itself is still there, it's just that the inciting incident tends to involve a dude.

Speaking of Lucy having so many deep female friendships is a big reason why I like Nalu so much lol. Like I literally do not care ab ships in media but fairy tail.... just has that something...

Love how often everyone changes outfits.

This show desperately needed a mini arc somewhere with just Natsu Lucy Happy going on a low stake job, where Natsu actually opens up ab his emotions and his relationship with Igneel.

Needed more Natsu and Igneel flashbacks in general.

Wendy triple combo abandonment issues are not talked ab enough holy shit. Grandeeny, Mystogan and then her entire guild???!

Lucy's relationship with her dad was objectively so well written. I skipped starry skies arc sorry the pacing was destroying me so I can't speak on that. But everything else was just BEAUTIFUL.

The fact that she returns to him just to tell at him. The fact that he comes to her with money problems and she STILL stands her ground. The fact that it's HIM who has to better himself and earn HER forgiveness.

Even after it seems like they're on ok terms, Lucy mentions in tenrou that they don't keep in contact, which is soo... realistic...

and then his death... Shout-out to Natsu who actually is emotionally quite mature (as the author himself seems to have forgotten) and dealt with it wonderfully. He gave Lucy her space, he let her vent, he stopped Happy from interfering too much. + Lucy being conflicted ab it and clearly grieving what could have been instead of what was. sighhh. .

idc ab no deaths but I do wish they didn't do fake out deaths as often. Because when actual loss sticks, it's done super well imo. Ultear, Aquarius, I haven't hit this part yet but Igneel... (yes I'm ignoring 100yq)

the episodic fillers r INCREDIBLE.

Really hate the muted colours Ft2014 onwards, but I do like that Lucy's hair became blonde and not yellow.

Pacing 2014 onwards was GOD AWFUL. I WAS SO SAD because I think the story beats in eclipse arc is actually super good but it was DRAGGED OUT SO MUCH nothing had the impact it should've.

Lucy underutilizes Gemini so much it drives me mad. They were terrifying under Angel so like... cmon...

Someone pointed out that Natsu didn't reallyyy hang out with anyone other than Happy pre canon and it changed my life. Every time I notice him and Lucy casually hanging out now I start screaming.

HAPPY IS SUCH A GOOD CHARACTER IDC. His edolas character arc was incredible, his relationship with Lucy is just as (if not more) fleshed out as his one with Natsu and that's part of what makes them such a great trio.

Hazbin Hotel Season 2 Bingo

I've never made a fandom bingo card before, but I've just had so many ideas over the past few months about things I'd like to see, I decided to make my first one!

Context for a couple of them in case you're curious-

RadioApple rivalry chaos in the hotel - I just want it to be clear that no, I do not mean this in the shipping sense, I used the ship name purely for spacing reasons.

StaticMoth being a couple - It's confirmed they're in an on and off relationship, but all we've seen so far is sexual tension, a celebratory dance, and whatever happened in Episode 2. If they're gonna be a couple, I wanna see them being romantic. Idc if it's in current times or a flashback, just something to show they do care about each other in some way.

Charlie meets Vox - I've seen a bunch of content of them and even though (unless he at some point, probably not season 2, joins the hotel) their relationship won't be a friendship like I've seen, I think it would at least be very entertaining to have them in the same room together.

Vox/Alastor fight parallels - I've been thinking about how this season could come to a satisfying conclusion (Killing Vox, one of the most important Vees members, off already in Season 2 doesn't feel right, and him joining the hotel just as early definitely doesn't feel right) and I honestly would love if they had a parallel to how their fight went in the past. Do we actually know how it went back then? No, not explicitly. But I'm in the camp that based on Vox's reaction to Val's "when he almost beat you that time", it probably didn't mean Vox won, and I assume instead that either he ran off, and/or Alastor purposely let him get away (we don't know when their friendship ended or when the fight happened, he might've still cared about Vox enough to not want to kill him). I think it would be super cool to see that happen in flashback form, and then have a final battle between the two where it goes in the opposite direction. Vox really had gained the upper hand while Alastor was gone and he's about to win. But, whether it's from remembering how he was spared last time, or just generally remembering their past relationship (platonic or his romantic feelings), he can't bring himself to finish the job, and lets Alastor go... Can you tell how much I've been thinking about this-?

i also really want a mikey centric episode too!! i understand that he's supposed to haunt the narrative, but i really want to see something about him rather than it just being "oh shit! mikey! anyways—".

marcus/syd/luca trio friendship. look, i have a lot that i want but i need this at the most. getting a scene where they all cook and shittalk carmy is something that will get me through the day.

i can feel the tomato that's about to be tossed at me, but carmy has to apologize to claire. the way i see it, he has three main people he needs to apologize to: her, richie (no, the one he did in ep 1 does not count. it was half-assed and he's more worried about the fact he did it rather than fixing the problem.) and syd. in my mind, i don't think he's ever going to get the balls to apologize to the other two if he doesn't apologize to her first. (or it might be flipped to where he cant apologize to her until he learns how to apologize to those two, but i'd prefer the former to be honest!)

rough foot p2: imo the bear can't come out in one piece. whether it's because of a bad review, jimmy running out of money as a whole so it can't get it funded anymore or, i semi remember someone saying burn it down. (which? i'd weirdly like??? i'd be devastated as fuck if that happened but also...i'm really interested to see the comeback from that.) i just need a wakeup call for carmy for the overall state of the kitchen. (also because i just DON'T see the show ending with it being like "and they did fine dining forever!" it just feels disappointing to end it that way, especially if the sandwich window is apparently doing way better than the restaurant itself...take us back to the roots!! or something!!)

the bear's timeline is so fucking confusing to the point i don't know what's the current date in the show right now (i've been assuming somewhere in between july-august?) so this one is less than likely to happen but i want them to go to some kind of award thing so bad...james beard or something else i don't fucking care, just give me the group in formal wear please. (extra points if this the only time they're bonding after a while!)

i'm not really into shipping culture like that w/ this show (aka idc who gets with who as long as they're happy.) BUT sydcarmies should at least be allowed a win with the way carmy apologizes to syd. i really want it to be somewhere personal and i hope it includes well—food. drop the collaborative dish while they talk in syd's apartment, thank you. (cause it's gonna leave a sour taste in my mouth if they're uncomfortably distant for life.)

lastly, don't give me anymore copenhagen flashbacks. don't get me wrong, i love seeing carmy happy but every time i read kitchen confidential, (which is mostly set in nyc) i just think "i wonder if carmy went through the same shit". more nyc carmy please if we're going to get flashbacks on past culinary experiences! it doesn't even have to be about fields, but i really wanna see what happened in other places carmy visited.

So on Sunday, I watched the Grand Prix for the first time and oh my god, that was so much fun! I know you're a huge F1 fan... I was wondering if you could give me a little rundown of F1?🫣

so basically, the races are every 1-3 few weeks (except the break in the summer, and end of season). there's a whole weekend building up to the main event, which is the race. now generally (on a non-sprint weekend), the friday is free practice 1&2 (fp), and it's when the drivers go on the track and they're figuring out where they are in standings compared to other teams on the track bcz they're all different from each other. saturdays will be fp3 and qualification (quali). in quali, the drivers are eliminated based on slowest laps, and it basically decides everyone's starting positions for the race. (that's a very watered down version, but you kind of have to watch quali to fully understand it). and then sunday will be the race, where the drivers fight for points. there's a lot that goes on with strategy/pit stops/overtakes/potential flags, but i'll go more into detail about that below. the top ten drivers at the end of the race get points based on their position, and the driver with the fastest lap will also get a point (can be any driver at all, even if they're not top 10). and then all the points are tallied up, and the driver with the most wins the wdc (world drivers championship)

the format i talked about is usually a non-sprint weekend (but the race might be on saturday, so it's moved ahead a day). so a sprint race is just a short race, and the drivers get less points than a regular race. so stuff gets shifted around a bit, and the sprint's on friday or saturday. the sprint also has it's own quali.

now that's all the basic format of a race/race weekend.

a yellow flag happens when there's a crash/debris or something that can be cleared out quickly. the race doesn't need to stop, everyone just slows down for a bit, and the race continues - no overtaking while there's a safety car. a red flag will stop the race - the barriers need to be fixed/car needs to be lifted out with the crane, etc. after that, the race will restart.

i'm a lewis hamilton girlie no matter what - he races for mercedes this year, but next year he's going to ferrari. leads f1 in most categories, stats-wise. a 7 time wdc, which is tied for the most. doesn't have an amazing car rn, but we're holding out for next year, and just enjoying all the drivers

but lots of other drivers are fun to watch and cheer for, like max, charles, oscar, logan (will destroy you because his team's shit, but idc i love him), yuki, etc.

i don't usually watch fp bcz it's in the middle of the night for me usually and it doesn't contribute to standings, but if it's the daytime then i'll usually watch while doing errands or smth. the things i pay attention to are qualies and races/sprints.

Fanfiction is supposed to be transgressive. It is supposed to be about looking at something and saying "I could go somewhere interesting with that", "That was stupid, I could fix that", "I can make that better", "I can make that happen", "I can make them fall in love", "I can make them happy".

It's why one of my fandoms had about 30% more works shipping the main character with her (male) best friend as opposed to the guy she marries in the show. People looked at it and said "That isn't right. This is better". So they made it themselves.

But guess what? Shipping her or just liking her more with her love interest was still more popular amongst more casual audiences. And the fanon shippers were surprised by this!

It's why I am baffled by the things I see stated online.

People thinking that there being more fanfiction about a particular ship means more people ship it, as if one fan writes a fic each and then leaves and as if there are no people who ship it and just don't write fic? Because they are not writers?

People being surprised that main characters are shipped with other main characters more as opposed to a character that appears in one episode.

People being surprised that people can believe a character is straight in canon and still enjoy fanon slash ships where he's shipped with other men.

Of course there will always be more M/M works than M/F works. We have enough heterosexuality in media already and as for F/F, while queer women do write F/F fanfic, there aren't that many queer women in the world statistically as opposed to straight women and even if fandom has a larger number of queer women than average, queer women write M/M works too.

You can believe this is Problematic, but guess what, back then, we were all freaks and weirdos. People would share links on obscure websites because they were scared of being sued. Professional writers would purge all their fanfiction and pray to god no one ever finds out. And if you wrote gay fanfiction? Good luck being taken seriously anywhere.

We went from "ship and let ship" and "don't like don't read" to "supporting this platonic surrogate father-son bond makes you a bigot because the father figure once made an ignorant comment" and "it's problematic to ship the hero with the villain because the hero is scared of him".

Fandom stopped being about Liking and Enjoying things and started being about Fighting People and Proving You're Right and Your Ship is Better. Because if you don't become canon, if you don't Win, what is even the point?

Of course it will be like that, when you tell people shipping something is Activism and not shipping something makes them a Bad Person and shipping something you morally disagree with makes them a Bad Person and more importantly makes you a Good Person for fighting the important battle of stopping people from imagining two imaginary people kissing in their heads.

Shipping is a feeling. Sometimes it's "I ship this, hehehe." Sometimes its "Oh no, I ship this and I wish I didn't." Sometimes it's "I wish I shipped this but I can't." It's supposed to be fun and not a form of mental torture.

It's not a choice. It's not writing fanfiction or making fanart, that comes later, but it's not even a requirement. You can write fanfiction for something you don't even ship! You can write fanfiction for shows you didn't even watch!

And shipping something doesn't make you Better or Worse.

Ship shaming doesn't stop people from shipping something, it only has the potential to make them feel worse for something they, for the most part, can't control. And when the person in question is a literal teenager who also self-harms, it certainly has no potential to do anyone any good.

And it's why when the proshippers see a person like that, a person like them, they welcome them in. "You're with us now. It's your ship. Own it. Come join us." Because they have experienced the same thing and they know they would want someone to stand up for them, too. They won't let you feel as if you're alone. Because you're not and you never will be. You have a community, you just need to look for it and find it.

It's what made me realize that the antis were the bullies. Also, the antis were a bunch of teenagers too, who thought they were doing important activism by yelling at people in caps lock.

So get off your high horse. It's not that serious. Stop talking about it like it's life or death and maybe you will feel better.

Heavy JJK spoilers ahead (post ch 221). Some thoughts on our favorite OP sorcerer’s fate.

I know everyone out here is saying that Gojo will die on December 24th. I get it. It makes sense, especially knowing Gege the way we do (god that would be horrible and I would not be okay at all lmao). But like… if he dies? I feel like that’s such cheap storytelling lmao.

Killing Gojo is frustrating and not enough for me. We all know Gege hates him and wants to kill him. And I get the parallels between Gojo killing Geto and Kenjaku using Geto’s body to kill Gojo (even though this wouldn’t make sense since Kenjaku canonically has been destroyed by Six Eyes users in the past). I get it. But why not do something worse? Instead of killing him why not take his eyes?

“Are you the strongest because you’re Gojo Satoru? Or are you Gojo Satoru because you’re the strongest?”

He’s the strongest because of his Six Eyes. Why not just… take that away? Blind him. Destroy his identity that way.

Y’all know I love Gojo and I don’t want him to suffer, but I think that’s a more interesting narrative. Because having Kenjaku kill Gojo for the Geto parallels feels like a waste after JJK 0. We’ve already seen Gojo and Geto clash. We’ve already seen their past together. We've seen this twice now. I don’t need it a third time. And if Sukuna does it? That’s so fucking boring and stupid and so goddamn predictable. If Sukuna kills Gojo, I will be done with JJK. Gege would have spent the whole story hyping up Gojo saying how powerful he is, only to have fucking boring ass Sukuna kill him? Gojo literally says to Yuji in the first couple of chapters that he could win against Sukuna. (I know. I know. "BuT aT wHaT cOst." I don't care. I stand by it.) Sukuna has also already done the unthinkable and taken Megumi. He's already killed dozens of people. He killed Tsumiki. Whatever. We get it. Sukuna is big bad guy. WHATEVER. I would be so bored if this happened. Sukuna is a BORING villain right now. Having this boring villain take out Gojo? It's lazy, Guys. It's predictable. I want more than that. Gege is capable of more than that. I said what I said. I think it would be a waste of both characters' potential.

(Edit: I also know that it’s been foreshadowed that past users of the Six Eyes and Ten Shadows have killed each other. I get that. I still think it’s boring because Megumi is possessed by Sukuna and Sukuna is fucking boring without Yuji. So idc about the foreshadowing. It wouldn’t be Megumi—the ACTUAL holder of the Ten Shadows—killing Gojo. It would Sukuna killing him. Fucking boring and lazy.)

Blind Gojo instead. Take his eyes. Take the one thing he’s cloaked himself with his entire life—his power. Make it mean something. He is nothing without those eyes. He literally changed the world of JJK by being born because of those eyes.

So take them. Make him be just like everyone else. Make him be just another guy in the story who isn’t special.

Gojo is a tragic character who is too powerful. Make it mean something. Take away the only thing he’s worth.

Take the Six Eyes.

I am finally watching season 5 lmfao. I didn't want to because the first half is boring to me. I really don't care about class B. I only care about a handful of the class A kids and Shinsou is cool, he's part of 1A to me since i started watching the series. Anyway, reading the class 1A vs class 1B battles is a different experience from watching them animated. It should be more exciting because it's in motion, but I think because I read the chapters wayyy back in like ??? 2019, after season 5 hit 2 years later, I was like okay. My best friend had to SIT ME DOWN to watch the first 7 episodes because I couldn't commit to the series. So now I have committed myself to watch an episode a day and I'm finally on season 5. So I'm watching each episode slowly and I'm enjoying them because they're 24 minutes long and then it's over. The thing I love about this season is the OP, we get Izuku and Shouto having a full conversation while everyone else is just stretching or whatever. Nobody else matters except these 2 angels. No little glances from other characters compare to the full conversation they are having LMFAO. Best thing in that part of the season. I am watching for black whip and Izuku and Shouto talking after the battles. And both their battles. But that's really it. One of the things that bothers me is that none of the recommendation students won their battles. They either lost or ended with a draw (?) I think, which is so stupid because they're supposed to be better than the others yet they don't win. Bullshit. Horikoshi just hates women and doesn't want Shouto to win. Momo and Setsuna should have won. I can handle Mud man losing, he's not my favorite. Like you can't have Shouto hype up Momo and have her LOSE. Horikoshi what's that even about??? What was the POINT? Hype her up to WIN. Prove Shouto's point that she's excellent. And then he has Shouto reaching these insane temperatures ....for his battle to be a draw. WOW. AMAZING. That's so anticlimactic. He could have 3 class 1A groups win in a row, and then have Bakugou lose, that would have been interesting. Humble him more. And then have Izuku win, that was good. No complaints about him. He even got black whip. I'm ignoring everything else that happened in that fight, but black whip was cool (I love that quirk, leave me ALONE). Idc if his favoritism for class 1A would have shown, I wanted my kids to win. They got hyped and did not get rewarded. Don't hype them up then! Or put them in the same team so they can ALL win at the same time IDK. He could have taken so many directions with this arc. I just think it sucks. It's salvaged, in my opinion, by the individual characters and what they bring to the table, Shinsou does a great job, the OP giving me crumbs, Momo, Shouto, and Izuku looking really cool, black whip, and the talk between my favorite boys. I'm not hate watching, I'm honestly watching because I want to know what's going on, since it's been YEARS after I read the manga and also years since I watched the 7 episodes I watched with my bestie before I went to do my master's. I really am interested. I just think the arc, to me, is boring.

I was on the Tumblr app and I had to grab my laptop and pull up Tumblr.com just to respond to this first one. I have all the thoughts about James Potter. Always. Everyday. Everywhere.

James Potter to me is just. He is everything. He is naturally charismatic, and lovable, and maybe he doesn't even think about it, but he brightens spaces. But, in my head, he's also trying so fucking hard. Because he's had it so good, he loves his parents, he loves his friends, and everything is right, but it shouldn't be, you know? Sirius is struggling, Remus is struggling, Peter is (quietly) struggling, and James sees that, and he's just. trying to pick up the slack. he is trying to rest the world on his shoulders for the people he loves, and that's beautiful to me.

BUT. what's most beautiful to me about James, in my head, is the way he feels. Obviously we are limited with what we know about him in canon, but even canon aside, he's just this character that to me is operating under the pretense of helping/"fixing" the people he loves, and he's fucking it up. He's making it harder for himself. He's causing collateral damage. he's doing what he can and what he can do isn't always enough.

He's trying, and it's slipping through his fingers.

I DONT KNOW MAGGIE. I've gone on plenty of James rants to you, but I love him deeply, and I see him clearly in my head, and I just get him. I get his struggles, I get his guilt, I get his arrogance, I get all of it. He's doing his best, and he's a kid who's always had it easy, and he's learning now that sometimes your best isn't always enough. Sometimes it's out of your hands. Sometimes you hurt people. It's all growth, and I love that.

I could fight anyone with that power and still win (cocky assumption probably idc) but like. You wanna point your lil wand at me? where am I? you don't know. We are now in the amazon rainforest and there are 6 of me. Try to figure it out.

first of all, I think the fandom as a whole is too discourse-y. Especially for a fandom that is like. completely made up. Like how are you about to argue about how a character is portrayed when we have almost 0 basis in it? just let people think what they think. it does not matter that much, just don't engage with what you don't agree with.

for a hot take on the actual characters??? I think that Sirius would not freak out about jegulus. SORRY. but like. I love the idea of dramatic Sirius, and I get it, but also, no. Maybe I'm just biased because I have younger sisters and I can't imagine being that dramatic over what they do, but idk. Realistically, I imagine Sirius would just be like "ew. Okay. don't hurt each other bc I don't want to deal w it." and that would be that. I can still accept a dramatic Sirius freak out, but it's just not the way I see it typically going. (this is also based on the backstory, and I do think there is sometimes reason for Sirius to freak out, but usually it would be more for James than for regulus. idk)

@high-school-lit-tournament here is some sweet sweet The Things They Carried propaganda!!!

The Things They Carried is an AMAZING book and even though it's probably not going to make is far in this tournament idc because I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to talk about it

It's written by Tim O'Brien, and it's a bunch of stories from his time in the Vietnam War. The first chapter alternates between introducing all of his squadmates by describing the items that they carry with them with telling the story of how one of the men died, from the perspective of their leader is in love with a girl back home who doesn't love him back, though he still carries her picture. The symbolism is just *chef's kiss*. Throughout the rest of the book O'Brien tells more stories about his squadmates not only during the war, but also after. It discusses how these veterans were affected mentally and how poorly America understood them, using the example of Norman Bowker (not his real name, but the name used in the book). It explores how these teenagers basically have dealt with ideas of masculinity and how war is viewed by the American public versus the actual soldiers, even including O'Brien's own story of nearly dodging the draft but changing his mind last minute. It also deals with themes of morality (especially during war), loss, and love. Even though it is written by a Vietnam Vet, it has an anti-war sentiment that is incredibly refreshing.

Going into this book, I didn't know a whole ton about the Vietnam War, as I've never been a war or military enthusiast, and I don't have close relatives that were in the war. In my class, we were given the option of choosing between The Things They Carried and a book called Woman At Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi. We were all assigned the first chapter of each book, and then from there make a decision on which book to continue reading. The beautifully-done symbolism of the first chapter hit me like a truck, and I was hooked. Most of my friends chose the other book, but I'm so glad I stuck with The Things They Carried.

So while I don't expect it to win, I hope I've convinced some of y'all to check it out, I'm so excited to share this book!!!!

👀 a genyame au...... teeheeheehee......... i mean, i feel u. i adore tanyame too, but genyame is just so...... i mean they are literally Like That. i never expected genya to be such a romantic!!!!!!

- okay so genyame would probably work best if they knew each other in their trainee days

- like kyoujurou and gyoumei both decide that actually, it might be better if their apprentices have someone their age to train with! after all, that someone would also likely be their skill level

- yeah so genya isn't quite at ayame's skill level, on account of not being able to use total concentration breathing. but this is also genya pre-puberty (or pre-noticing how cute girls can be) and so he finds himself more jealous of ayame than anything

- you'd think they wouldn't get along, seeing how terribly their first meeting went in fits canon, but actually, despite genya's jealousy, ayame and genya get along really well. it helps that they are both self-aware enough to realise how weak they are, and they're both trying to figure out - in their own ways - how to get stronger

- well, not entirely in their own way. ayame and genya both help each other a lot, offering tips and encouragement. they're both just so off-handed and aloof about it that their shishous don't realise they're friends until they both set off for their final selections

- and u know, speaking of genya's jealousy of ayame, i bet it all gets turned around the day ayame comes back from okutama an orphan. by then, the rumours have spread throughout the ranks of the hashiras, although only a handful of people will realise what that means to anyone - and to ayame in particular

- in this au, i still think that ayame and tanjirou would be close. maybe not quite as close as they are in fits canon, but they can always count on each other as family

- the only major change, i guess, would be that genyame go on their first mission tgt, and ayame is a lil more absent from tanjirou's side during rehabilitation arc; she would be splitting her time between training her friends and hounding genya about his meetings/appointments/sessions with shinobu

- i can see ayame and sanemi's r/ship taking a turn for the worse though. ayame gets a chance to be close to genya, which is all sanemi wants and could have if he wasn't such an idiot about it. ayame also can't stand the fact that sanemi would push away his only living sibling, when she would do anything she could to hold on as tight as she can. i bet things between sanemi and genya can't really escalate bc genya is too busy mediating between his older brother and his, uh, best friend/crush/potential love of his life (?)

- is sanemi's and genya's r/ship better in this au? maaayyybeeeee but only bc ayame and sanemi are actively pissing each other off ig????? sanemi's too busy getting pissed off at ayame to even think of maiming genya so????? it's a win (????)

- would they get together? i'd like to think so. maybe they're both kinda hinting at their feelings in swordsmith village, although they never say it outright, bc genya is a romantic but ayame is an idiot. she is an idiots squad member after all

1. yeah!! I'm kinda excited tbh bc it means more money but it's also manual labour, so I'll be doing things like chopping back trees and fixing fences for the most part, which I've always enjoyed doing, like, I like to get my hands dirty and I like being outside so it's a win win!
