Top Seven Reads of 2023

I wrote for Schitt in 2023, but I read 150 books! Allow me to share some of my faves and because I do what I want... I'm not sticking to seven lol.

Yes, I'm a fan of Tal! I've read most of his stuff and in 2024 I pledge to finish his catalog. I read the above titles in 2022 and 2023. Of the three "You and Me" is my absolute favorite...bi-awakening, dad stories, hot steamy scenes...yes please! The Jock and The Quarterback are related to one series. You have to read The Jock first and you'll want to read The Quarterback next. It sounds weird, but you'll fall in love with that couple. If you don't, please yell at me! I invite it! I also invite yelling in general!

Loved me some Onley James in 2023 and I can't just pick one or even two from the Necessary Evils series! Read them all! If I had to pick my absolute favorites I would say 1-5. I am due for a re-read of the whole series so maybe for my 2024 recs, I'll finalize my faves. Just when I think I've figured out my favorite couple, I talk to friends and I'm like...good point so I am not picking favorites. Just read them all! The family dynamic is amazing in each of these stories. The Mulvaney family really needs their own television series!! Come on Netflix....jump on it!

Disciplinary Action was definitely a favorite also by Onley James. Teacher meets naughty student....yes, the student was of age. Steamy and very sweet!

I read Charlie Cochet for the first time this year and fell in love with her Four Kings universe about a group of six men who served in the military together and find love through out both the Four Kings Series and the Four Kings Wild Card Series. The two above are my favorites of all 7 books. "Diamond In The Rough" is # 4 of the Four Kings Series and "Sleight of Hand" is #3 of the Wild Card Series.

The dynamic between these brothers in arms is amazing. I would rec the whole series.

Last, but never least is the reason I almost missed my Good Reads goal of 150 books. Funny enough I set my goal for 100 books and I was feeling cocky and bumped it to 150 then @hippolotamus told me I just had to read this last book which I became obsessed with and may still be...okay I am. If you haven't read this book and watched the movie? What are you waiting for? Do it now!!

I read so many good books...I read amazing low angst stories by K.M. Neuhold and Lee Blair too! Too many to count! Please message me to talk books! I'd love to do that!

A Linked Universe meets The Dark Crystal AU! I don't even remember what started it at this point. I remembered that the Dark Crystal and Age of Resistance are things I like, blinked, and woke up three days later with an AU and a bunch of art.

The designs and the story are a wip and for fun so expect a lot of variation! (I have a few different beginnings, ideas for different designs, etc)! :D

Day 3 - Angel and Devil('s Advocate)

Look I like Roger enough, I understand what he represents and I generally don’t think he was a bad dude. I do however think he was shit at interpersonal relationships because, what the fuck. Whitebeards crew is infinitely more well adjusted and I’d say he arguably had the more traumatic death.

Like what even, what kind of planning leads a 53 year old man to sire a child knowing he is dying of an incurable illness and is about to turn himself in to be excuted by the marines where he will cause so much chaos it is literally still turning the world on its head 22 years later. He knew he was going to cause so much of a stir that he literally disbanded his crew and told them to spread far and wide to keep them safe. Because he knew the marines would hunt them far and wide But yet he still brought a baby into the world. Babe. What the fuck? What even is that? What was the thought process. I sincerely hope it was an accident and not a deliberate attempt to bring about a new era.

Because if so babe I need to see the recipe or I’m afraid we can never let you cook again

look, not to be a hater but the whole ekko/jinx alternate universe situation only proves that jinx was only ever loved entirely and completely by silco, that's kinda the point of how tragic jinx really is as a character,

vi either only sees her little sister out of guilt/sense of duty mixed with a desperate need to come back to something or as consequences to her own actions(taking away agency from jinx in the process);

ekko sees her through the eyes of an idealist which is exactly what he is and that's not bad by itself, but it makes her either A Problem or Someone That Needs Saving, that's what's going on in his head after that AU he transported to. he's comparing jinx to powder and he likes powder much better, so he wants jinx to be powder or to reignite the powder in her - basically, he thinks how vi used to think;

isha is a complicated matter because she did show kindness and affection towards jinx that wasn't equal to anyone else's, it was pure and idolizing, she loved what she knew of jinx.

the people of zaun don't love her, not by a long shot. she became a symbol to some(as we can notice in the reunion by vander's statue) and overall the assumption that she would get involved more after her attack and silco's death is a fair one; that doesn't mean they like her,

sevika maintains a connection to jinx through grief and a sense of helplessness along with familiarity, silco's death affected jinx's psyche but it also affected sevika's dream of zaun, they feel left behind by him;

vander... well, he only got to see powder and warwick quite literally just had the memories,

the ONLY character we see that meets her as powder and stays with her as jinx is silco; yes, he isn't a good guy and he does cause the whole separation, he sharpened her edges to make her into a weapon, he lied to her and manipulated her at times, none of these things exclude the fact he does love her so strongly, with zero conditions.

she fucks up in missions, she does as she pleases around zaun, she kills their people, she stabs him in the eye, has psychotic episodes and breakdowns, she kidnaps him, ties him down, SHOOTS HIM, she doubts him and his love, keeps running after the past when he's done everything to strengthen her and she was, at a point, the only thing keeping him from his dream of an independent zaun - none of these perceived sins and flaws made him wish for anyone other than her, as she is.

all silco wanted was to keep her, while everyone else either wants another version of her or none at all. that's the tragic part, even if she suddenly decided to be good, she would feel like a burden for not being entirely like people want her to be.

I can’t believe there are humans walking this earth that watch seven seasons of Buffy being crushed under the weight of the literal world and all her responsibilities and suffer constant chronic loneliness and isolation even from her closest friends never getting the support, emotional or otherwise she really needs and then we witness Spike become her safe haven and emotional safe space as she battles her depression and the only person she can genuinely count on both before and after he gets the soul. Acting as a true partner and other half who sees her and she can be truly vulnerable with and who loves her so deeply and she loves deeply in return and go “🤓☝🏻I actually think she should be ALONE rather than in a relationship”

SHE HAS ALREADY DIED THREE TIMES AND HAS A VERY SHORT LIFE EXPECTANCY AND MANAGED TO FIND AND MAKE IT WORK WITH HER VAMPIRE OTHER HALF IN THAT SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME AND YOU WANT TO ROB HER OF GREAT SEX, EMOTIONAL SUPPORT AND LOVE AND FREEDOM FROM HER EVER PRESENT LONELINESS FOR THE REMAINDER OF SAID SHORT LIFE??????????? YOU CAN FUCK ALL THE WAY OFF ACTUALLY THAT’S NOT FEMINISM OR EMPOWERMENT THAT’S JUST MEAN

It’d be one thing if she had a solid family support and real fucking friends but tara and spike were the only people who genuinely cared for her rather than what they can get from her and with Tara gone Spike is an incredibly important person for her to have in her life for her overall happiness and emotional and mental wellbeing and because I don’t fucking hate Buffy I think she deserves to spend the rest of her life with that person!! And miraculously cannon agrees!! So 🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻
