Game 17: Blazblue Cross Tag Battle (Jan 2023)
Blazblue Cross Tag Battle feels like it's fairly uncooked compared to what the story and future roster ended up being. Boosting well over 20 additional DLC characters, and nearly none of them are relevant to the story makes for a lot of missed opportunities, and character interactions that we simply don't get. To say the least, it's about how much better the game could have been if it just waited a bit longer or added more story to it's original campaign. What's the point of having all these characters and just not really use them?
If you said fighting, then ya, I suppose you're right. This was a mainline Evo game in 2018, and I'm sure there were at least a few matches that wow'd the crowd. I certainly won't bad mouth Cross Tag Battles combat system. For what it is, it's a fairly simple one that gives players universal means to understand characters as well as a whole assist face button that works well into it's combos. Really the combat of Cross Tag Battle is just something I never meshed well with, and while I can't say I spent a lot of time with it, I can say it was fairly easy to pick up and play, but difficult to master. Although I don't dare go online as this game has a ton of touch of death combos just waiting to eat newbies. Still, if you and a friend are looking for a simple fighter to enjoy at a party, Cross Tag Battle certainly got a roster that's big enough, well if you have all the DLC characters, for everyone to enjoy.
Ya, honestly that's kind of my biggest problem with this game, is the amount of DLC it got over just how low the roster was initially. It doesn't just speak to my collector brain that we don't have the likes of Yang and Blake (from RWBY) on disc, but also the fact that the main campaign for RWBY in this game is heavily missing any real lines or dialogue interacting with Yang and Blake. The other 3 campaigns are fairly good though, and it's probably the biggest reason I'm so upset we don't get much interaction with the DLC characters. Even Crosstag Battle adding in an arcade mode, a staple for any fighting game really, would have been enough to quell my problems with story content.
Cross Tag Battles troubles really are just that it doesn't cater to a single player audience. Like if you enjoy this kinda of fighting game, there was a ton of DLC released and game changes that made you keep coming back. For people that are a fan of the characters in the game tho? We got next to nothing in terms of content to work with. Which I get in terms of marketing and cost would have problem been too much, but us single player types are already used to so little, it really wouldn't have been that hard to please us. Still, the game has plenty of good fundamentals for any fighting game fan, and really deep down that's just what this game is. Just don't expect anything more or less from it.

I’m almost 3 hours into the new QuintonReviews video (the one that’s NINE AND A HALF HOURS LONG) and I just want everyone to know 2 things (minor spoilers):
Quinton reviewed the rest of the Lil Sam and Cat Show (the animated online supplement to Sam and Cat that apparently went longer than Sam & Cat itself) but he sped up the video by 5000x and the audio is jumbled nonsense so this maniac just made lost media for the sake of pacing (in a 9.5 hour video) and fun
Quinton will be appearing in upcoming videos on Smosh Pit and Smosh Games

Love seeing how confused many Rings of Powers haters are that there is actually a lot of hype and excitement for season two. They're discovering in real time that the majority of the hate for season one was just massively inflated.

june '24 favs:
a storm of swords ; george r r martin — third book in the 'a song of ice and fire' series, and it may just be my fav instalment yet. i was left utterly speechless over the plot twists in here. one of the best examples of modern fantasy.
the lost daughter ; elena ferrante — it's elena ferrante, of course it's on this list. an intimate character study of leda, a divorcee who suddenly finds herself with zero responsibilities after her daughters move away. a poignant, visceral look into motherhood (girlies with mummy issues, tread with caution😭)
giovanni's room ; james baldwin — the iconic gay, parisian classic. this was my first baldwin, and it's definitely not going to be my last. i haven't been this enthralled by the writing in a classic since 'the picture of dorian gray'. beautiful, gut-wrenching, a must-read for anyone into the classics!!

The year is 2034. Kotlc book 17.67 has just been announced. The title? Unwritten. The plot? The crew has discovered a time traveling alternate self of Ryke, Sophie’s fifth love interest and this is his story through time. She has a half human half elf friend named Ebony who she spends several pages describing her dyed black hair, icy blue eyes, and red lips. Marella and Linh have still not been declared canon. The fandom has had 3 full revivals and a fandom war about love interest #3 and love interest #4. My kotlc confessions blog still only gets asks about keefe. We still don’t know what the great gulon incident is.

Game 1: Resonance of the Ocean (Jan 2024) Resonance of the Ocean is a very pretty, yet cryptic music game that pressures you to use your ears to puzzle solve rather than your brain. There isn't too much story or content to be had here, but the animation and puzzles are stellar for what they are. Play it if you like the look of it.

The Japan first edition blu-ray is here! \(^o^)/
The digital content is the same save for an additional Japanese dub, so I'm way more curious about the trinkets!
2nd pic is a set of six postcards that iirc are DVD volume covers. (Wow remember the early days of TCW where there's ZERO Ahsoka on any promo materials) Each cover features screencaps of the episodes it contains.
3rd pic is keychain charms. 4th pic is a poster by… I think, Kilian Plunkett? It looks a little too finished to be Filoni… Enlighten me if you do.

Extinction | Our Fragile Relationship with Life on Earth, by Marc Schlossman. Ammonite Press, 2022. 224 pages.
The most recent addition to my Library of Lost Species, this large, beautiful volume has also earned instant entry to my favorites list. A photographer and advocate for vanishing species, Schlossman built this work around the fantasic specimen collection of Chicago’s Field Museum. Eighty-two species are covered, twenty-three of which are extinct—and, unlike many books that limit themselves to charismatic birds and mammals, included here are fish and herptiles as well as plants, mollusks, and insects. As is the case with the previously reviewed Swift as a Shadow, the photography of this book is artistic in nature. The evocative images are accompanied by concise yet informative text, sharing stories of tragic losses as well as stirring triumphs of conservation. Schlossman also maintains a website that promises updated information on each profiled species, at www.extinction.photo. I’m very very happy to have added this powerful work to my collection.
