Eel-Dog & Q-Taro (feat. Spike)

Look, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it. 2023 was a horrible year. I accomplished absolutely nothing and work was stressful like it's never been. I still wanted to treat myself though for pushing through. Eel-Dog and Q-Taro give me comfort whenever I feel bad. Looking at their cute design gives me strength and hope. Hope, that someday, things will get better. I felt like this when I was still going through my apprenticeship in 2013-2016 and found hope in fictional scenarios and media (such as Henry Hugglemonster back then). And when I indulge into a medium, I usually get merchandise to show it off. To show the world who I am. To find like-minded people and maybe even make new friends (hint: that hasn't happened yet).

So this year, I decided to go on a shopping spree again by buying things with a shopping proxy service. Here's the stuff I've gotten!

An Eel-Dog T-Shirt! I really like the pink design. It is the smallest of the T-Shirts I got, but thankfully it fits me (barely). It's a very tight fit though, so I don't think I can even wash it or put it in the tumble dryer - it might be so small afterwards that it won't fit me anymore. This T-Shirt was described as medium-sized for women. All the other T-Shirts in this haul are bigger, so they will naturally fit me.

Next up is this beautiful Q-Taro T-Shirt! The design on it is minimalist and definitely way more subtle than that of my custom-made T-Shirt. This T-Shirt is officially licensed. It's described as being medium-sized (probably for men, as this one is much larger than the first one posted here).

Look at these two Eel-Dog shirts! Their design is very similar, but there are some subtle differences though! Eel-Dog's lips seem to be more voluminous in the left photo, and the artwork is differently-placed. I will cherish them both! Can't wait to wear it in the summer (and get weird looks and questions: "What the fuck is that thing on your T-Shirt?").

I almost didn't buy this one because the design is so bland. But when I saw Eel-Dog's cute tail on the back, I had to get it. There was no way around that!

This mug is officially licensed and features amazing artworks of Q-Taro and O-jiro. Other than that, it's just a cup for coffee or tea. As I drink both quite often, it will come in good use. I do have two other Q-Taro cups though - custom-made, as posted here.

Next up is this Q-Taro key chain. There's some signs of usage, but it still looks good. I'll probably just put it in the glass cabinet though and not worsen it's condition by actually using it as a key chain. There's a serial number printed on Q-Taro's... um... underside?

Here you have a muesli bowl. Or an egg holder cup. Or... I don't even know. But you can put food in it, and that's what's important! I am surprised that tableware like this arrived in one piece, all the way from Japan! Then again, the parcel was very well-protected, so...

Aren't they absolutely lovely?! As lovely as they are, don't get too close with them, as they are filthy and in need of a good cleaning. I'll put them in the washing machine later and hope that they will survive unscathed. Doronpa is currently undergoing the procedure and you can't hear him scream.

The Q-Taro on the right is really big when compared to the others. (The hair on his lips is NOT mine, it came like this. Eww. There's also a long hair on his back.)

Oh. This is Spike. You know. Spike. From Mario? No, not Spike The Foreman! That other Spike! Now I can finally make him and Q-Taro kiss. Oh am I looking forward to this!! ;)

These last two items were a failure. I thought of these things on the left to be bags, but I was wrong. These are just plastic bags with Eel-Dog's design on them, containing one-use handkerchiefs (in black, without Eel-Dog design). What an absolute failure! Included is a handwritten note, probably mocking me for being this stupid.

On the right you can see an Audio CD containing the soundtrack of the 1990 version of the Bakabon anime. I was very disappointed when I found out that the song I was searching for isn't even included! Grrr... at least it was reasonably priced. It only cost me like €10 when on Amazon Germany people sell it for six times the price, at €60!

Well, that's all for now, folks! All in all, I'm really happy that everything arrived in very good condition, and that it all arrived before Christmas even! It literally only took like two days to ship it from Japan to Germany, which is insane! Thanks, DHL! Customs duties also weren't as high as I expected. Though I will tell you this: when shopping over a proxy service, be prepared to spend a lot of moola. The item's physical worth don't even come close to the price I paid. I would say that, if this stuff was readily available in Germany, you could get all this for 1/5 of the price I paid. Customs duties, domestic shipping in Japan, handling fees and the actual shipping costs to Germany all add up and inflate the price. That is something to be considered. Also consider that there are assholes trying to rip you off on Yahoo! Auctions and Maderake. They might sell something for a low price but then ask you to pay €300 for domestic shipping! Thankfully I didn't fall for any scammers and domestic shipping was actually really cheap.

shin with an espeon because he canonically likes cats. he probably wanted an umbreon to match the cat plush in sou’s room but eevee followed him to work on a day shift and evolved, but he loves his partner anyways :)

sara with umbreon because she wanted a black cat in the manga. the type matchups make sense to me with shin having the weaker matchup.

gin with a growlithe and q-taro with an arcanine would be so cuteee. they’re father and son to me idc 😭

joe with a rockruff omlll. his uniform would always be a little roughed up because he can never resist playing with his partner!!

a zorua would go so well with reko’s color scheme aaaaa. maybe having it use rain dance during live venues to preform with her!!

nao with an altaria because the artbook said she likes fluffy thingss. i could totally see her napping with an altaria. little bit angsty here, but maybe a mishima’s smergle she raises after his death

alice with a zebstrika or furret because he likes striped things. i like to imagine his pokemon would occasionally bicker with reko’s zorua, but get their ass beat every time 😭

kai would have a ghost time to freak the yabusames out like he did in ytts. maybe a sableye or a yamask, but i feel like he would look so cunty with a froslass!!

i have no reason for this one but keiji with a gible makes sense in my head. idk… i can just see him doing his best to calm down a rambunctious gible that’s chasing the other participants around.

anzu with a blacephalon because its clownlike and not as off-putting as mr mime. i don’t like mr. mime, and i also feel like it’d be an uncreative cop-out to give her.

kuramada with a primape or hitmonlee that he spars with from time to time. they have specially tailored boxing gloves :”)

mai with a fidough. no explanation needed. your honor, they have matching bread hats!! she lets her partner help in the kitchen and just prays the fda doesn’t swing by.

i imagine kanna with a sweets themed pokemon bc of her pudding bucket in ytts. maybe a milcery or alcremie. i imagine shin’s espeon has a timid nature and she has to let it slowly warm up to her and her partner pokemon.

i feel like hinako would have a giant terrifying ass pokemon, slightly due to the fact that she’s intimidating and mysterious herself. mostly due to the fact that i think it would be really funny for the shortest character to have a giant scary pokemon lurking behind them.

ranmaru is kinda gloomy, so i feel like he would empathize well with a mimikyu and they would bond in no time. his partner is terrified of sara’s umbreon and every time he tries to approach her, mimikyu panics and he gives up. poor guy :(

Suneo's last name changed ???

In the Doraemon Volume 10 (Chapter 176),

the episode 'Weather Box' is about Nobita and Suneo having a challenge to see if it will rain or not. Whoever loses will be beaten.

And in the end, Suneo is a loser. So he covered his head with a pot and said,

' Well, If you wanna punch me, just punch already! '

But when we zoom in and look at the last name sign in front of Suneo's house, it's written with Kiza (木佐) instead of Honekawa (骨川)

WHO DA HELL IS KIZA???

Kiza (木佐) , the full name is Kiza Kizao (木佐キザ夫), is a character in 'Little Ghost Q Taro' which the author is also Fujiko F. Fujio sensei. His appearance and personality are similar to Suneo.

And the reason why Suneo's last name is Kiza is because at that time, Fujiko F. Fujio had many manga written, so on one page he didn't draw all of them himself, most of them would just draw sketches. The rest of the lines and background will be done by his assistant. And the assistant who drew this episode might be blurry and accidentally write the name 'Kiza' instead of 'Honekawa' .

Even in new editions of Doraemon's manga compilations, this name tag has not been changed and the name Kiza still remains...

This is probably random but can u tell us more abt Medjed

Not to worry; random questions are some of my favorites! For the sake of not missing something- and because I like having an excuse for longer replies- I'll answer in two parts; the real world, historic information on Medjed, and their incarnation in EoK.

As far as egyptologic knowledge goes, not much is understood about Medjed. We're not entirely sure what specific purpose or role they were meant to play, their connection to the greater pantheon, even definitively whether they were male or female, both or neither. All that is documented is their appearance and mention in the Book of the Dead and the Greenfield Papyrus (specifically appearing visually on sheets 12 and 76.) In Spell 17, they're described as such; "I know the name of that Smiter [Medjed translates to "the smiter"] among them, who belongs to the House of Osiris, who shoots with his eye, yet is unseen." Researchers have been able to discern that Medjed plays some role in the dead's journey through the Duat, but the specifics remain obscured and yet to be recovered. (I'm stubborn and refuse to say "discovered" with ancient cultures.)

In significantly more recent times- specifically 2012- Medjed was among those figures featured in an exhibit at the Mori Arts Center Gallery in Tokyo. The deity's appearance, curiously reminiscent of the cliche Halloween sheet ghost as well as the character Obake no Q-Taro, captivated many that attended the exhibit, and by 2013 Medjed was enjoying a second life as a meme. They've been the subject of plenty fan art, appearing in videogames and manga/anime, and the mysteries surrounding them have been given "answers" of sorts in the way internet memes gradually develop their own lore regardless of source material (if any.)

(As a side note, I'm not 100% confident in this, but the way I've taken to pronouncing their name is like "medge-ed." The d and j noises are separate but still in the same syllable.)

For Echoes of Kemet, I've embraced much of the pop culture evolution of Medjed as there's so little on them to employ in my characterization.

Similar to the enigmatic Kherty, they're an example of the Duat's apparent mysterious quality of producing new entities and warping preexisting ones. Which of these Medjed is an instance of is unclear- whether they're a demon, Netjer, or something else- but they've made clear their willing allegiance with those in the Hall of Two Truths (despite being mute save for the odd noise.) They seem to be particularly fond of King Osiris and Prince Anubis, often competing with Ammit for their attentions- though they're also capable of getting along with the Devourer, sometimes sharing a feast of hearts with her.

Another role they've accepted is a watchman of sorts; possessing the ability to travel through walls and shadows- suggesting they may have some relation to the Khaibit (shadow) portion of the soul- they suddenly appear in front of anyone or thing not expressly invited or permitted entrance to Osiris' kingdom. They've gradually learned to adopt a different policy after a few unfortunate smitings, but they used to be inclined to incinerate trespassers with their other ability to shoot streams of fire from their eyes.

Many of the gods besides Anubis and Osiris- including Heqet, Wepwawet, Thoth, even the mighty Shezmu- find Medjed offputting. Many will vehemently deny being afraid of or creeped out by the deity, but they certainly possess a disquieting aura (despite their small stature and simple appearance) few are immune to.

Some YTTD Afterlife Headcanon’s Because I’m In The Mood For Angst

- On the route where Shin and Alice die, Alice is quick to greet Shin and congratulates him for keeping his sister safe. He asks about Reko, and Shin not having any more point to lie updates Alice that Reko is still holding strong despite missing her brother. Finding a solace in their motivations they decide to look after their sisters together.

- On the route Alice and Kanna die, Kanna decides to help Alice keep watch over Reko. When Ranmaru kills Reko, Kanna is the one who has to stand between Alice and Ranmaru’s spirit to prevent Alice from punting Ranmaru like a football.

- During the banquet Q-Taro was trying to find any way possible to get out of the afterlife and become a ghost or other figure that could keep Gin safe. While he was grateful his doll did such a good job, Q-Taro managed to take ten years off his life while being dead just watching the coffin debacle.

- Kugie is furious when Kanna shows up. She hates Sara for failing to protect her little sister, paralleling the anger of Kanna’s living brother. Kanna however doesn’t feel angry over what happened. In fact she still watches over Sara and roots for her. If Sara or Shin come to the afterlife anytime soon, Kanna wants to be the first to greet them.

-  When Mishima gets to the afterlife he’s quite at peace with his death. He hopes it will be enough for his student to live on. While Mishima could take turns watching after all his students, he decides to hang around the death game for awhile and watch the outcome. For people he knew for such a short time they left a big impact on him, and Mishima doesn’t want to move on until he knows at least some have escaped.

- On the massacre ending, it takes a long time for everyone to work up the nerve to watch over Nao and Sara. A part of them is bitter after not only being executed themselves, but watching the rest of their friends being killed as well. Even Gin and Kanna have complicated feelings towards them after they let everyone die. In time however these wounds start to mend, and with each day they stop feeling so bitter. Q-Taro is the first to let go of his complicated feelings, as a part of him realizes he would do the same. On the contrary, Shin is the only one who can’t let go. He never lets go of the hatred he feels towards Sara, even if Joe and Kanna try to convince him otherwise.

so the main plot of Ceres: Celestial Legend is way too dark for me, but the little old lady whose sole narrative purpose is to look like Q-taro the ghost and to just show her face every time the drama gets too intense...just inexplicably got our heroes past the facial recognition scanner at the bad guys’ lair...then the next chapter it IS suddenly explained as “the head of security is a big nerd and put Q-taro in the facial recognition database”...and I’m 1,000% here for that kind of bullshit X’D
