Always in the writing scene when the author themselves are drunk from the euphoria of having their words imprinted on a paper or screen. But the need of having their draft scanned over and over again for the final product is the real struggle here. The struggle to put one's words into something comprehensible, even to themselves FIRST, as its first audience of an intellectual freakshow—
Ah... The rules of the grammarian culture without sacrificing the childlike playing of random alphabet blabbering. And one's personal standard of literary utopia is waving, all after the random soliloquies whispering in one's mind as if they are asleep while writing/typing the words needed for the wordscapes recipe of an individual aspiration for having their illusions to be something material, and yet, ethereal.
The somnolent escape in the paper kingdom of mindless thoughts in order to have a mindful release to the letter collective! 😅🤣

Martyr by Kaveh Akbar
Such a rich and beautifully written book. This book tells the tale of Cyrus, a young man who, from a young age, faced tragedy. Born in Iran, his father moved him to the United States very early. I will not be able to do the story itself a service as it should be done, because everything I will say will not make it sound as amazing and moving as it is. The descriptions were touching, and the story itself was so all encompassing. It is a literary work of art, and I have no doubts it will touch the minds and hearts of so many because of its appeal. The story weaves in all different walks of life and such an interesting premise as well. Cyrus wants to write a book of martyrs, but in doing so, finds much out about himself and his background. I highly recommend this book to someone wanting something different and touching, because it will do just that.
This ebook was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

one of my favourite little things about the murderbot diaries is how present all secunit's friends are even if they're not actually physically present. it doesn't do the annoying thing where it jumps through hoops to bring back characters that aren't really relevant to the narrative but it also doesn't do the other annoying thing where it pretends they never existed either. like secunit talks about art and mensah all the time even when art or mensah aren't in the book. it's clear how bharadwaj has impacted its personal growth even when she's literally on another planet. it complains about gurathin and pin-lee when they're not there. it's still sad about miki and don abene and it mentions tapan and maro and rami even though it only knew them for a few days (because when you're new at being a person every interaction with other people is important even if it's short). iris reminds it of mensah. iris also reminds it of ratthi. its hair is fluffy bc it let amena play hairdresser off-screen and it messages her so she knows it's okay. it doesn't have to worry about protecting volescu anymore because volescu retired thank goodness. it's still using thiago's language module. etc etc etc
it's such good writing because it's such a little thing that gives the characterization and relationships greater depth and also reinforces the running theme of friendship in the series and then also subtly gives this sense of 'the people you love are a part of you/your story' and also reinforces secunit's role as a storyteller because it's constantly telling little stories about all its friends.
#theyre good books brent#murderbot#dont mind me apparently when i have an evening nap and no work the next day#i stay up late possessed by a spirit of literary analysis.#oh hell im probably going to have another super nerdy literary dream tonight ffs.#the fact that this has happened multiple times is both sad and embarassing. i know we should all just be ourselves and embrace the cringe#but dreaming about literary analysis is really going too far i think.#if youve read all these tags you should also read the murderbot diaries. thank you and good night.

Honesty hours: I've been working a summer job at a bookstore for almost two months now. Here are the books I will discreetly shake my head at customers for buying. My literary red flags, if you will.
Anything tarot
Particular romance and romantasy novels that I've been told are basically just soft erotica (ACOTAR being the most popular)
Harlequins, which apparently still exist
Colleen Hoover
The Colleen Hoover merch we sell for some godforsaken reason
Heaven is For Real, When God Winks at You, and other theologically sketchy but inexplicably popular books. I'm always internally thinking, "oh honey, no!"
Giant stack of self help books combined with books from the business section. This suggests a very particular type of person. This type of person scares me.
Especially that one book we have about how to become a "superior man" (??)
More than one book by James Patterson. One book is forgivable; multiple suggests you follow him as an author
More than one book by Danielle Steel (same reason)
Parents buying their kids books that are just "Adult Thing: For Kids!" Like we have a picture book that's called "A Day at Dunder Mifflin" or the one adapted from the Dumb and Dumber movies and I'm like. Don't you think your kid would prefer something that's actually for them??
That guy who bought the collected writings of Lenin, the poetic writings of Mao, and a giant, thousand-page biography of Che Guevara all in one go. You okay there buddy?
#not trying to start anything just thought this crowd might appreciate this#if you're not familiar with Danielle Steel (i wasn't really before i started working here) she's basically just patterson ~for her~#suspiciously prolific (ie definitely using ghostwriters)#never leaves the top ten of the bestseller list (ie definitely putting a thumb on the scales)#and so insanely popular that we have to stock everything she's ever written in favor of other stuff#just to explain that one#i feel like the rest are pretty self explanatory#anyway. it's a fun summer job. but at the same time I feel very aware of the fact that my literary tastes place me in a minority#even among my coworkers#¯\_(ツ)_/¯#pontifications and creations

To be at service is to see the world we walk with the same feet, breathe the same air for we all struggle with the empty side of ourselves, bathe on the same sunlight, and fascinate ourselves with the same greed for living and sanity.
Service might act as some form of constraint, but, at the same time, it frees us. It also serves our own needs and wants... But before that, be sure of how you want to serve others before trying to touch their lives using your own abilities to give and to serve, and to gain the fruits of your efforts.
Be sure of what you want and what you need with Life.
