Last post, I promise, but I do think it’s good and important to see local art (defining that term as broadly as possible) but in my experience you have to put up with the little kick of embarrassment you feel witnessing something too earnest, a little clumsy, not polished within an inch of its life or in step with prevailing trends.

I’m thinking of the dance performances I saw this weekend, but also last week’s street festival, where I watched short films and walked through local art exhibits; I’m thinking about Chicago’s outsider art museum, and even the elaborately decorated (ostensibly tacky) yards I see in rural Illinois, but South Carolina and Tennessee before that, and Michigan before that. Maybe I should cast an even broader net: my aunt’s cross stitch, my grand-aunt’s horrible poetry; the art they display at the nearby retirement community and the halfway house too, which comes from the residents.

If you’re not used to leaving space for that little kick, you might turn away or scoff at all this small, fumbling art. But I think there’s value in forcing yourself to look beyond that initial stab of secondhand embarrassment---to actually appreciate the art in front of you as an expression of something deeply human. You don’t have to think it’s objectively good, or even subjectively good. You don’t have to pretend that a local woman with a talent for oils is the next [INSERT FAMOUS ARTIST HERE]. But I do think you have to appreciate it, because otherwise there is no entrance into making art yourself.

And that, more than anything, is worth preserving.

I think the reason garlic lovers (me included) are always like, "that isn't enough garlic, double it" is because we're cooking all the damn flavor out!! Like, yeah, sometimes you need more. But listen. Listen. If you want that mega sharp flavor? Ultra garlicky goodness?

Don't saute your onions and garlic together and then throw your other veggies or whatever in the pan. Don't do it! Garlic's flavor becomes super mellow as it cooks, which is why you can't taste its telltale sharpness in the end. If you saute it for 10 minutes, that flavor will basically be gone, and you'll need two or three times as much to replace it when you want that zing of garlicky goodness!!

Mince up those measly two cloves and throw them in for only the last minute of cooking. You'll get that tasty garlic aroma and flavor without using a whole head.

oh this is a difficult question for me because I don't know about Mario or Sonic that well to make an informed answer. Uuuh they like pokemon cuz cute animals that transform. It appeals to their shapeshifting. Now for Smash Bros,,,

M'gann would be very good at Smash Bros. I can imagine her playing as all sorts of characters but I see her struggling between choosing Pit or Dark Pit because "they're both cute boys". K'hym obviously plays Kirby (and everyone lets her win as they should). J'onn plays Isabelle because She Gets It. Ma'al is going through things.

Genuinely feel so sick to my mf tummy but idk if its cause of dinner which was an autistic nightmare ( spaghetti but it was just..fucking wrong. ) or the like...10 chocolate orange sticks I had. They're super small but i was not keeping track of how many i ate cause they were such a sensory pleasure to eat :/ Or maybe its my body rebelling against taking a break idk

You're one of the only people I've seen the whole 'hire fans!' mentality actually make sense for. I'm actively mad that your ToTK concept isn't the one we got!

no but, im taking that as a huge compliment!! im always so worried i come off as one of those .. angery gamerdudes who get mad about whatever they deem is "woke" and hate on gamedevs (which i really dont want to do, as much as i hate totk i dont wish any dev ill)

the 'hire fans' thing isnt realistic, as im sure we both know (like .. id have to be in some of the highest position there to achieve anything id want xD) and sometimes i dream of working on a zelda game, but then always have to think how much torture it would be to have to work on things you dont like, or watch as the director decides on things you know arent good, repeat the same old stereotypes etc etc

so then im more happy to not be there (although it is also very painful to watch them do it from the outside .......... i jsut imagine the pain be greater when you are working on it but cant decide on anything)
