Top 5 knightly/paladin oaths sworn by a character?

This will be in no particular order. I'm bad at making choices.

The Grey Warden's oath in Dragon Age.

"In peace, vigilance; in war, victory; in death, sacrifice."

I disagree with a lot of choices in Dragon Age, this oath is not one of them. Simple, evocative, and grim.

2. The Oath of Vengeance from 5e

"Fight the Greater Evil. Faced with a choice of fighting my sworn foes or combating a lesser evil, I choose the greater evil.

No Mercy for the Wicked. Ordinary foes might win my mercy, but my sworn enemies do not.

By Any Means Necessary. My qualms can't get in the way of exterminating my foes.

Restitution. If my foes wreak ruin on the world, it is because I failed to stop them. I must help those harmed by their misdeeds."

I was originally gonna include oath of the watchers instead, but Vengeance feels more ubiquitous. Watchers is good, but shines better in very specific campaigns. Vengeance can be taken anywhere, and it can be a deeply personal oath against a specific foe, or a grim promise to endlessly oppose the very concept of something you hate. (If I ever play Baroret again, I'm changing him from ancients to vengeance.)

3. The Green Lantern Oath

"In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil’s might, beware my power, Green Lantern’s light."

It'd just feel wrong not to include this one.

4. bending the rules a bit to include the Assassin's Creed, since they aren't really knights or paladins/paladin-adjacent.

I mostly like this one because of how other characters come to understand it, especially Edward Kenway, who if I recall correctly, says that it's the beginning of wisdom, not the end.

5. While I have yet to read the stormlight archive, I am partial to the Immortal Words Of The Knights Radiant, one of which being:

"Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination"

Jaune was surrounded by Grimm and he was run ragged, he could barely hang onto his sword. He looked around to see everyone was fighting the best they could but could see they were growing tired as well.

'I have to keep on fighting... no matter what, I have to keep fighting!' Jaune thought.

Jaune killed a few more Grimm, making sure they didn't reach Shade Academy, as team RWBY and the Summer Maiden retrieved the Relic of Destruction.

However, something green began to shine and he heard a chant be spoken loudly...

"As bright as day! As dark as night! No evil shall escape my sight!"

Jaune's eyes widened and he recognized that chant, he may have only heard it once, but he could never forget those words, nor the person who said them.

"Let those who worship evil's might! BEWARE MY POWER! GREEN LANTERNS LIGHT!"

Suddenly the green light shined brightly, blinding Jaune. The Grimm were blasted into ashes and faded away, eventually, Jaune open his eyes and looked up only to see the last person he had expected to see again.

"J-Jessica?" Jaune asked.

landing in front of her was a woman with long brown hair, and a green symbol around her right eye and wore what appeared to be a latex suit that consisted of green and black. She looked back at him and smiled awkwardly.

"Hey, Jaune," Jessica said.

Jaune thought she was cute when they met but looking at her now, he thought she was beautiful. "So... this is what you really look like?" He asked with a smile.

Jessica smiled, "I hope I didn't disappoint you," She asked.

Jaune shook his head, "No, you're... stunning," Jaune said, he then blushed and realized what he had just blurted out, "I-I mean- What I meant to say is-!"

Jessica just chuckled, "I know what you mean Jaune," Jessica said, "But how about we talk later, after all... we have to deal with them," She said, pointing to the Grimm.

More Grimm began to surround him and Jaune turned to her with a smile and nodded, he boosted his aura and Jessica created a shield and spear with her ring, and the two began to fight.

So a bit of a pet peeve of mine

I am SO ANNOYED that we've never had a depiction of the Green Lantern Oath done properly.

In EVERY show or game that either almost whisper it or they say in a serious chant at normal speaking volume

The two big examples I can think of are in the Ryan Reynolds movie where in the final fight he basically mumbles it to himself, or in the Injustice 2 game where Hal basically pants it out while resisting a red ring being put on his finger

The oath is supposed to be big, dramatic and boisterous

It's supposed to be a ROAR. With high emphasis on certain words like you're spitting it out.

Especially in moments like that.

Scenario: Ruby is on the ground, her hood obscuring her face and covered in her cape. Crescent Rose is broken and in pieces. Salem is standing over her.

Salem: Another Silver-Eyed Warrior to join the rest of your fallen comrades. I’d say you were a worthy adversary, but you are just a child. *black flames surround her hand* Do you have any final words?

Ruby: ...In brightest day. In blackest night.

Salem: ...What?

Ruby: No evil shall escape my sight.

Salem: What are you doing?

The wind begins to bellow around Ruby. Her cape and hood starts to turn green.

Salem: What magic is this?!

Ruby: Let those who worship evil’s might, beware my power.

Salem throws her black fireball at Ruby. It explodes on her, enveloping her in black fire.

Salem: Tsk. Damn pest. *turns around and begins walking away* How dare she try to scare-

A bright green light erupts behind Salem.

Salem: ?!?!?! *turns around to see a pillar of green light*

Ruby walks out of the pillar of light, her outfit now primarily green and black. Her hood has fallen off, showing her eyes. Her pupils are still purple, but her irises are green. There’s a green ring on her finger. Ruby creates a replication of Crescent Rose in her hands, spinning it around before she plants it on the ground.

Ruby: Green Lantern’s Light!

Remnant's Green Lantern

After Sunsprite and her friends defeated Salem, she looks to the statues of her father Jaune, and mother Ruby. Built following the events of 2nd Great War. With the Crocea Mors of the Arc, Sunsprite used her silver eyes to seal Salem for good. But knew she has to be ready for the next time she appears.

Though it might take years, Sunsprite needs to be ready. To train future generations of huntsmen and huntresses. To protect Remnant.

"Mom, Dad, you can rest now. The war may be over, but Salem will return. But please, don't just support me, but also everyone else who want to do good in Remnant." Sunsprite pleaded.

As Sunsprite prays in front of the memorial statues, a Green light streaks from the sky like a shooting star. As the light reaches closer to Sunrpite, she looks after it shines behind her.

As she sees the light, it was a ring. Radiating to her presence.

The ring then began to speak. "Sunsprite Arc. Brave and heart of gold. Heiress of Clan Arc. Daughter of Jaune Arc and Ruby Rose. Because of your bravery and encouragement to defeat Salem, your duty is far from over."

Sunsprite blinks as she hears the voice. Confused for how the ring was speaking to her. As if she is chosen for a new destiny.

"What duty?" Asked Sunsprite. "What am I chosen for?"

"You have been selected to become a warrior of will and protection. What lies ahead is not just Remnant, but also beyond it." The ring adds. "With this ring, you will be granted the power of the Infinite and Unbound. You will become a Green Lantern."

Sunsprite stood still as she held her hand out. Not sure why she felt the need to accept this. But maybe she wants to do more good. Maybe something more to help others beyond Remnant. She placed her father's sword back into her sheath on the side of her waist.

Then the ring illuminates a light beam formed around Sunsprite. The beam lifts her off the ground. Pulling her into the sky. It startled her at first before wondering where her journey would take her next. She is now a Green Lantern of Remnant.

The ring slipped into her finger after floating towards her. Her armory became enhanced in green with a bodysuit. Her Boots are also green. And her Rose Emblem given to her by her mother was glowing in green light.

Then the scripts that were written in a planetary language was translated to English. Sunsprite reads like it was a poetry to recite.
