Thirty years ago this week, on October 24th, 1994, “Red Right Hand,” the third single from the eighth studio album by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Let Love In, was released. Inspired by John Milton’s epic poem, Paradise Lost, in reference to God’s vengeance, “Red Right Hand” has been used numerous times in movies and television—most notably in the Scream horror film franchise and as the theme to the television drama Peaky Blinders. One of the band’s signature live pieces, where it often devolves into a cacophonous glorious crescendo, the song’s dark noir-ish tone, menacing atmosphere, and timeless narrative folklore make the song one of the stand out tracks of Cave’s distinguished career.
