this is the great karidian. you cannot deny him his last performance!
barbara anderson as lenore karidian in star trek: the original series (1966–1969) s01 e13 “the conscience of the king”
[ID: nine screencaps of lenore karidian confronting captain kirk. in costume as ophelia, she wears a dress of lavender and pale green, the bodice adorned with white flowers. she points a phaser gun at kirk, a wild look in her eyes. standing beside kodos on the stage, kirk says, “you’ll never get off the ship.” lenore replies, “it will become a floating tomb, drifting through space, with the soul of the great karidian giving performances at every star he touches.” as she speaks, there is a close-up shot of her eyes sparkling with white light. brandishing the phaser gun, she continues, “i know how to use this, captain.” off-screen, somebody shouts, “no!” and lenore declares, “caesar, beware the idea of march.” end ID.]

I cannot stress enough how skilled of a manipulator Lenore Karidian was in conscience of the king. The only reason Kirk found out she was the killer was that he overheard her inadvertently confess. He never once considered her as a suspect. She played him in all of their conversations. Every time he tried to pry she always turned the conversation away. First by trying to focus on him, but then when that failed, turned to romance/seduction. Because while you can never get Kirk to talk about himself, he will speak about love and the human condition at length, and fall hard and fast for anyone who appeals to that.

I like to imagine that Betty’s and Simon’s wedding was just around the corner when all hell broke lose. Maybe they were postponing it due to the mushroom war and said fuck it cause they were tired of waiting and if a bomb dropped on the chapel so be it.
I like to think it was barely a month away when he got the crown. That as a joke and a partial truth he said he’d wear it so Betty could really feel like a princess marrying her Prince on their big day. I like to think she smiled right before the crown took Simon over for the first time.
I like to think that’s why she didn’t fully run away. Cause they were so close to their special day and she hoped both literal and figurative storm would pass. That this would be a funny and crazy story to tell on their honey moon.
I like to think Betty heard wedding bells as she jumped through the portal and past their wedding date to a hopeful future with Simon.
I like to think Simon kept the bands, long after forgetting her and hid them when he realized the symbol of their unfulfilled promise wasn’t safe with his madness anymore.
I like to think some where they got to say “I do.”

The Raven // inspired by the poem “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
“’Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door—
Only this and nothing more.”
Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December;
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow;—vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow—sorrow for the lost Lenore—
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore—
Nameless here for evermore.
And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me—filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
“’Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door—
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door;—
This it is and nothing more.”
Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,
“Sir,” said I, “or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore;
But the fact is I was napping, and so gently you came rapping,
And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door,
That I scarce was sure I heard you”—here I opened wide the door;—
Darkness there and nothing more.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;
But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, “Lenore?”
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, “Lenore!”—
Merely this and nothing more.
Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning,
Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before.
“Surely,” said I, “surely that is something at my window lattice;
Let me see, then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore—
Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore;—
’Tis the wind and nothing more!”
Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately Raven of the saintly days of yore;
Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;
But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door—
Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door—
Perched, and sat, and nothing more.
Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,
“Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,” I said, “art sure no craven,
Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering from the Nightly shore—
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night’s Plutonian shore!”
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”

My Sofia the First AU so far
Outside of OC lore, nothing much has changed.
Sofia doesn't consider Roland to be her dad. She pretends that she does and calls him 'Dad' to keep the peace but she doesn't actually consider him as such. She slowly comes to detest him as the years progress. She also refuses to think of him as "Dad" in private, and struggles to even say the word in reference to him when talking to the few who know her true feelings.
Cedric, the animals, Cordelia and Calista are the only ones aware of Sofia's true feelings about Roland.
She considers Cedric to be her dad, and Cedric considers her his daughter. Cordelia and Calista are like an aunt and cousin to her.
Lenore (OC) exists and sometimes shows up as a reoccuring character to cause shenanigans. She and Cedric have a frenemies/enemies to lovers dynamic.

My high school did a yearly poetry recitation contest (Poetry Out Loud), so Oh Boy do I know some poems. My favorites are Ozymandias and "the world is about to end and my grandparents are in love," by Kara Jackson. Also in 8th grade we had a Poe unit and had a class contest to make the best music video of the Raven, so I still know a good chunk of that.
i hadn't heard of the kara jackson one! just read through it and enjoyed it, particularly these lines > 'grandma returns to her love like a hymn, marks it with a color. // when the world ends will it suck the earth of all its love? /will i go taking somebody’s hand, / my skin becoming their skin?'
#taking this as a challenge to see how much of ozymandias and the raven i can remember. no i'm not bored at work what gives you that idea#i bet ive got most of ozymandias. the raven may be a lost cause#i met a traveller from an antique land / who said: two vast and trunkless legs of stone / stand in the desert. near them on the sand /#half-sunk a shatter'd visage lies whose frown / and wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command / tell that its sculptor well those passions read#...something or other i do not recall / the heart that mocked them and the heart that fed / and on the pedestal these words appear /#my name is ozymandias king of kings / look on my works ye mighty and despair /#nothing beside remains. round the decay / of that colossal wreck . something or other#the lone and level sands stretch far away#decay of that colossal wreck indeed (my memory for this poem)#oh well.#once upon a midnight dreary as i pondered weak and weary / over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore /#while i nodded nearly napping suddenly there came a rapping / as of someone gently tapping tapping at my chamber door /#tis some visitor i muttered tapping at my chamber door / only this and nothing more#?? (it's downhill from here)#ah distinctly i remember it was in the bleak december / and each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor /#something?ly i sought the morrow / vainly had i sought to borrow / from my books surcease of sorrow / sorrow for the lost lenore /#for the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels .name lenore / lost to me forevermore#(then there is another stanza; bird-infested word bonanza / which i used to know at some point but do not know anymore /)#something something something door. darkness there and nothing more#oh it's the 'silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain / thrilled me filled me with fantastic terrors never known before' bit#anyway. deep into that darkness peering something stood i hoping fearing / doubting?? dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before#but the silence was unbroken and the stillness gave no token / and the only word there spoken was the whispered word lenore#(more missing chunks)#oh i remember 'surely said i surely that is / something at my window lattice' because it's such a stupid rhyme#bird time bust time idk#ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the nightly shore / tell me what thy lordly name is on the night's plutonian shore /#a billion more stanzas i dont remember. except for 'prophet!' said i 'thing of evil! prophet still if bird or devil!#whether tempter sent or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore /' etc. wait you can only add 30 tags to posts now?? i had more raven chunks#ask#anon
