Post-Crooked Kingdom Kaz having to reckon with the fact that his life long quest for revenge on Pekka Rollins has actually just made him more miserable, and even though now it’s fulfilled and Rollins has paid for what he did, Kaz is still right where he was at the start: an angry, abandoned boy who misses his brother, except now he’s no longer alone is something that can be SO personal actually
#thinking about Kaz hours………..#I start 🚬🍷🤠#no but literally like#him thinking in the harbor ‘he had to live. someone had to pay’ and now Rollins has paid and his entire goal in life is fulfilled#what do you do now??? how do you go on#I need SOC III NOW#Leigh please 🙏#six of crows#betsey rambles#kaz brekker

I think that either you can respect different interpretations of your book, or you have to state exactly what you want to convey. So what's stopping Leigh from releasing those Darkling pov chapters she has written. Let us read his thoughts and find out for ourselves how evil he really is. Whenever we get in his head in the written material, he is thinking of sunlight and then everyone else is like look at that evil mf.
Yup. Exactly.
I believe that Leigh likes the Darkling's character, she doesn't hate him. But she just doesn't know what to do with him, you know.
She has said it herself that whenever people call him "good" she says "No! He killed people!". And when people call him "evil" she says "No! He's not! He has just been through a lot!". And she has also explained that she's a cranky author. She kinda wants readers to perceive her characters the way she sees them.
Anyway, you're right that any author must let the readers decide themselves about the characters inside the novels. And if you want to make someone truly bad, show it. Don't have other characters say "He's manipulating!" when we (the readers) don't remember where the fuck that happened. Show it instead of saying "He's bad".
AND DON'T START ME ABOUT HIS POVS
The fact that she has written the Darkling's POV in S&B and S&S makes me FERAL!!!
I
WANT
THEM!!!
I would exchange my soul to read them. To read what he thinks of Alina, what were his true plans, were these kisses fucking genuine? (I just want the confirmation), his mad thoughts about M*l etc etc.
I just pray that one day we'll be able to get them. And when we do, we'll celebrate together, guys (and I'll analyse the fuck out of them)
Also, you're right that his POV in RoW wasn't that dark? He truly showed us that he's not unhinged as many make him to be. He seemed reasonable, intelligent, determined, strategic, willing to fight and protect his followers and even showed us that he has a sense of humor!
The Darkling in his POV: "Oh look how the sun is shining!"
The readers: "SHUT UP SATANIC EVIL SPAWN OF THE DEVIL!!! ✝️✝️"
#I WANT HIS POVS!!!#this is my manifestation circle 🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🙏🙏🙏#please God don't leave us this way 😭#let us leave this world knowing that we read his own thoughts from the trilogy#the darkling#pro darkling#leigh bardugo#aleksander morovoza#pro aleksander morozova#rule of wolves#nikolai duology#shadow and bone#siege and storm#darklina#pro darklina#alarkling#pro alarkling#anon asks

which streaming service has the most vintage movies? If you don't know, maybe your followers could answer? 🙏
Ooh hoo hoo you asked and I'll answer!!
I actually made a post like this for the hot men tournament, but I can't find it now so I'll do it again from scratch. The short answer is that I don't know of any one streaming service that has all the old vintage movies—but most streaming services have a "classics" genre category that can get you started. Here's a small selection of what you can find on different streaming services:
TUBI (free):
The Adventures of Robin Hood (Olivia de Havilland)
A Streetcar Named Desire (Vivien Leigh)
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Jane Powell, Julie Newmar)
North by Northwest (Eva Marie Saint)
The Music Man (Shirley Jones)
The Women (Norma Shearer, Rosalind Russell, Joan Crawford, Joan Fontaine, Paulette Goddard, several other hotties in small parts)
The Philadelphia Story (Katharine Hepburn, Ruth Hussey)
Notorious (Ingrid Bergman)
Bell, Book, and Candle (Kim Novak, Elsa Lanchester)
The Talk of the Town (Jean Arthur)
Dark Victory (Bette Davis)
Stray Dog (Keiko Awaji)
Some Like It Hot (Marilyn Monroe)
Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow (Sophia Loren)
Dirty Girtie From Harlem USA (Francine Everett)
Passport (Madhubala)
Dark Passage (Lauren Bacall)
Sepia Cinderella (Sheila Guyse)
On The Town (Ann Miller, Vera-Ellen, Betty Garrett)
The Bandwagon (Cyd Charisse)
Devar (Sharmila Tagore)
Reet-Petite and Gone (June Richmond)
The Postman Always Rings Twice (Lana Turner)
KANOPY (free through some libraries):
Dial M for Murder (Grace Kelly)
His Girl Friday (Rosalind Russell)
Ball of Fire (Barbara Stanwyck)
Black Orpheus (Marpessa Dawn)
Flower Drum Song (Reiko Sato, Nancy Kwan, Miyoshi Umeki)
Marriage Italian Style (Sophia Loren)
The Rose Tattoo (Anna Magnani)
Tokyo Story (Setsuko Hara)
War and Peace (Audrey Hepburn, Anita Ekberg)
Salt of the Earth (Rosaura Revueltas)
Metropolis (Brigitte Helm)
The Red Shoes (Moira Shearer)
HOOPLA (free through some libraries):
The Court Jester (Angela Lansbury, Glynis Johns)
Sunset Boulevard (Gloria Swanson)
A Place in the Sun (Elizabeth Taylor)
Barefoot in the Park (Jane Fonda)
The Barefoot Contessa (Ava Gardner)
Wings (Clara Bow)
YOUTUBE (has a lot of older movies that have slipped through copyright/are still up for some reason):
Charade (Audrey Hepburn)
Story Weather (Lena Horne)
Gilda (Rita Hayworth)
Rebecca (Joan Fontaine)
This entire playlist of Indian cinema that I just found (Madhubala, Waheeda Rehman, Nargis, Meena Kumari, etc.)
And that's just a small sample. There is also always your local library for physical DVDs, the Internet Archive, and....other methods.....if you know exactly what you're looking for.
I haven't seen all of these movies, so don't consider them personal recommendations—these are just famous movies with our hotties in them, so please be careful if you have content warnings. Good luck and have fun!
EDIT 5/16: Added a few more movies to the different sections, but this is still just a small selection of what the different streaming services have. Good luck!

i adore reading your analytical posts abt soc so much jts not even funny; stumbling upon your account was like a coming across a goldmine 🙏 ALSO I RLLY WANT TO ONOW ABT THE SHE TREATS US LJKE MARKS ESSAY IVE NEVER THOIGHT ABT THAT RLLY also i loved the mr crimson post anw im sorry i’ll shut up now
Thank you so much, I’m so glad you like them!!
This is the first time someone’s submitted a question so bare with me because if there’s any way to do this wrong I’ll probably manage it, but here are my thoughts on the red herrings :)
She’s treating us like marks - an analysis of Leigh Bardugo’s use of red herrings in Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom
*warning: CONSTANT SPOILERS AHEAD!*
I happen to be an absolute sucker for a good bit of foreshadowing, I think if it’s done well it’s one of the best literary techniques out there, so it’s something I always like to try and be on the look out for when I read. With books that I go back and reread, in this case many many times (seriously I’ve never specifically counted but I’m pretty sure I’m at over ten times each for the duology, it’s ridiculous), I like to find the things I didn’t realise were foreshadowing the first time round. When rereading six of crows and crooked kingdom, I realised that a lot of the things I expected to be foreshadowing didn’t actually come to fruition whilst other, seemingly less important, details were the actual foreshadowing. I LOVE IT! It’s genius, because it leaves the reader worrying about one thing so they’re too distracted to realise the groundwork is being laid for something else. But you know what that makes me think of? Kaz’s ideology of “What’s the easiest way to steal a man’s wallet? […] Tell him you’re going to steal his watch,” and “you have to let the mark feel like he’s won”. Leigh Bardugo literally cons us, and she tells us that she’s doing it in Crooked Kingdom when the group are certain that they know where Inej is being kept, but Kaz says “Too obvious. He’s treating us like marks”. GENIUS
So I compiled a few of my favourite examples (in no particular order), if you know of any I’ve missed please add more I would love to see them!!
The cannon at the Ice Court. When the Crows first arrive in Djerholm they see a cannon built into the the cliff face, a defence mechanism for the Court, and Kaz says what might be one of my favourite underrated lines of his: “I’ve broken into banks, warehouses, mansions, museums, vaults, a rare book library, and once the bedchamber of a visiting Kaelish diplomat whose wife had a passion for emeralds. But I’ve never had a cannon shot at me”. Jesper jokes that “there’s something to be said for novelty” but then continues to say that a cannon would be useless against a ship as small as theirs and that it’s designed for “invading armadas”. They don’t mention the cannon again, but it stuck in my mind when I first read it as a looming threat, a reminder that the danger wouldn’t end when they left the court. So when they arrived in the harbour was I expecting soldiers, or a heartrender, or for Nina to take parem? Nope, I was too busy worrying about the schooner being blown to pieces - especially when the Crows all have such specific painful and/or traumatic experiences linking to water, with 4 out of 6 of them being drowning related. But that isn’t to say that the waiting soldiers at the dock weren’t foreshadowed. All the way through Leigh Bardugo constantly reminds us that Matthias had never seen black protocol in action, and that his time in the prison sector had been brief, but she lulls us into a false sense of security by letting us believe that the secret bridge onto the White Island was all Matthias was hiding. We trust him by this point, so we don’t expect anything to be different to what he’s told us, even though this is an aspect he couldn’t possibly have predicted. Bonus points for the fact that Nina’s poor well-being in the aftermath of the drug is foreshadowed by a joke at the awful Inn they go to before the job; the food is disgusting and she says “when I don’t want to eat, you know there’s a problem”, and in Crooked Kingdom it’s many times emphasised that she’s unhealthily losing weight and her appetite has vastly decreased, with Matthias buying her chocolate biscuits “in the hopes she’d eat something”.
The poison pill. Leigh Bardugo worked very hard in Crooked Kingdom to make us think that Nina might die. We went into that book knowing there was a strong possibility that she wouldn’t come out the other side; we knew very little about how she was coping with parem withdrawal at the end of soc, but we had seen around a minimum of five grisha being destroyed by the drug so far. (That’s a guess I haven’t actually counted). So we went in with the idea that she was already in a precarious situation, and even though we begin to see her regain herself she struggles throughout the novel both physically and mentally in the aftermath of the drug. Matthias begins to dream of being lost on the ice in the worst storms known to Fjerda, knowing that she was out there somewhere and that he could not reach her. This sounds like it’s foreshadowing her death. Then when the pair go to the Ravkan embassy, Tamar gives Nina a small yellow pill that Genya made; she explains that it kills instantly and painlessly, saying “we all have them” to make sure they cannot be drugged and enslaved by the Shu government, who are hunting for grisha with the Khergud at the time. Matthias is terrified by this, but Nina just slips it into her pocket without a second thought. At that moment I thought that Nina would almost take the pill only to be stopped by someone else, because it felt too obvious that it would kill her, but I did wonder if the Khergud would be the ones to stop her and so she would still be lost. But the pill never gets mentioned again, except when the Dime Lions come for Nina at Sweet Reef and she briefly remembers that it’s still in her pocket. Then never again. And Matthias’ dreams were, of course, actually foreshadowing the FESTIVAL OF PAIN AND TORTURE that is chapter 40.
Mr Crimson. I’m so glad you like my Mr Crimson idea! Basically I posted saying I think that he represents death in the novels and I’ve also talked before about how I think the Komedie Brute costumes that the characters usually adopt are representative of their character; Kaz the Madman, Nina the Lost Bride, Inej and Wylan the Grey Imp, and Jesper and Matthias Mr Crimson. I won’t go into detail about all of them but if you’re interested the post is on my page, but with the idea that Mr Crimson represents death it’s very important to me that, although all of them wear his cloak at least once, he is the only Komedie Brute character taken on by Jesper and Matthias (at least to my recollection, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong). So of course I would argue that Matthias taking on the image in Crooked Kingdom foreshadows his death, but in that case what does Jesper’s represent? I came up with two options but I actually think you could combine them into one: it’s a red herring to make us align him with the literal death of Matthias, whilst actually foreshadowing the metaphorical death that his addiction and mental well-being are driving him towards as he tries desperately to stop them - in his own words to Colm “I’m dying anyway, Da, I’m just doing it slow”
Oh god sorry that this is yet another long post I hope y’all enjoyed this enough for it to be worth the time it takes for you to read all my ramblings 😭

hey, so I saw your post saying that if someone could prompt you the framework for the fic, then you’d write it so—
I think it could probably start like, at the hospital but instead of Shawn asking Juliet to put a baby in him, he asks Gus instead, and without thinking he just responds “not now Shawn,” but then he thinks about it later on and was like “hm. Now that I think about it—“ you know what I mean?? Sorry about this, have a great day 🙏
THIS WAS SUCH A CLEAR WAY TO DO IT AND HERE IS LIKE 600 WORDS I WROTE AT WORK SET IN THE EXISTING DADDY KINK VERSE
“Hey, do you remember anything you said while you were high out of your mind on morphine?” Gus asks, after the dust has generally settled and he’s gone through his customary therapeutic brief meltdown about all the ways that he could have died in the last 24 to 48 hours. He just goes and sits in the dark and breathes heavily for an hour or two before Shawn coaxes him out to make him breathe heavily for different reasons and they move on with their lives, older and probably not as wise as they should be.
“Don’t tell me,” Shawn says, leaning into him more where they’re watching old episodes of Cop Rock in Gus’ apartment. “Let me assume it was all charming and dignified.”
“Dignified isn’t a word I associate with you,” Gus says, snorting when Shawn sits up enough to glare at him for approximately three seconds before immediately cuddling up against his side again.
“I’ve got so much dignity,” he mutters, yawning. “Full of it. I’m Sandra freaking Dee.”
“. . .teeming with dignity,” Gus says, after a second, catching up to his thought process. After all these years, he’s practiced at it. The only person in his life who he doesn’t at least lightly baffle. “The syllables are off.”
“Dig. . .in. . .ity,” Shawn says. “What did I say?”
“Hmm?”
“When I was high,” Shawn says. “What did I say?”
“Ah,” Gus says. “You, uh—you asked me to put a baby in you.”
Shawn feels himself die and float above his body for a few seconds before crashing back down to Earth.
“Weird,” he says, laughing unconvincingly. “Why would I say that? Probably not worth investigating. I mean, the brain on drugs, right, man? With the. . .egg and Rachel Leigh Cook in the sexy tanktop and—you know, the egg still looked good, eggs look arguably better fried so I’m not sure the imagery really tracked but—okay, you’re not buying this at all.”
Gus slides an arm around his waist and pulls him even closer.
“Nope,” he says, in a voice that Shawn has not been able to pin down as either a sex voice or a love voice.
He doesn’t have a lot of experience with those things existing simultaneously but they have a lot of sex and Gus finally said that he loved him after Shawn said it, like, five seconds following the first time they fucked. It’s all very real. And unprecedented, not even slightly like him. And he hasn’t tried to run away even once.
He kind of wants to propose but he’s pretty sure Gus would say no strictly because he figured out how much credit card debt Shawn is in at some point and just walked out of the building and didn’t come back for a couple of days.
“. . .you want me to put a baby in you, Shawn?” Gus asks, kissing the side of his head.
Shawn makes a strangled noise before sitting up enough to look Gus right in his eyes.
“You don’t think this is white people nonsense?” he asks, accusingly. “This feels like white people nonsense.”
“Oh, this is definitely white people nonsense,” Gus says, running his fingers through Shawn’s hair, smiling, “but that’s the burden I’ve taken on here.”
“. . .please, daddy,” Shawn says, not meaning his voice to be quite so tiny and pathetic.
There used to be the tiniest hint of irony in the daddy thing. A little dash of self-awareness.
That went out of the window pretty quick.

Hiiiiiiii! I just watn you to know I absolutely love mafia Steve and his princess! He's so bad and she wants to hate him but he turns her on too much??? Aaaaa yessss! I'm ready for more corruption to come! An I know writing takes time and take all the time you need, no pressure, but can I ask for a small sneak peak? 🙏
Hey sweet Anon 😊 I'm so happy to know I'm not the only one falling into the dark side for the awful dark mafia Steve 😂 He's the worst, why I want him so much? Please, don't send help.
Writing does take time, especially when I'm in a lazy because of heatwave mood. Nothing gets done, oops.
But I guess I can spare a tiny crumb from the next chapter:
The two walked in with confidence, as if they were about to take over your office. The woman, Leigh, had a pad in her hand and a huge binder under her other arm. The man held some small kind of measure tape and a little blue notebook. If they were some new donors, or a company who wanted to start a program with your health center, they sure were the very first to start negotiations this way. Usually you were invited to lunch, not have it brought. People meeting you were also more reserved and polite, instead of barging in with some wacky energy. “Lunch is from Mister Rogers, we’re just delivering since we were going to be here anyway,” said Leigh, her toothpaste-commercial grin not changing for a second. Instantly your mood dropped, your eyebrows creasing into a hostile frown. “And why are you here?” Your tone remained calm, but you made sure displeasure in it was audible. Steve randomly buying you lunch was a worrying problem you stored to resolve later; though you had a feeling he wouldn’t care that these nice gestures annoyed you, as they clashed with the picture of a ruthless mobster you were adamant on hating forever. The two cheery people coming in unannounced - at the direction of Steve, undoubtedly - became the aim of your irritation and distrust at the moment.

I just started of Lies and Rash Decisions and IT'S JUST SUCH A GOOD CANON DIVERGENCE FIC
It's so good and I didn't even finish the first chapter but like the description of Jesper's reaction to Jan has my blood pressure up. Jesper having a moral dilemma and comparing it to his other experiences with killing is 👌
The picture of Wylan, the symbolism in Jesper dropping it, just the whole description of him choosing his dad over Wylan because Jesper has a HUGE guilt complex and that's so important to his character development.
Honestly when Jan first showed up I was like "omg yay Kaz is here to help Jesper" and then the description continued and I was like "please no 😭"
But anyways off to a great start Rae you're doing the work Leigh couldn't give to us 🙏
- Esmay
Ohmyoodness thank you so much!!!
I really love that you thought so highly of the first chapter AND that you picked up on some of the tiny little details I threw in, it's like leaving easter eggs out!
I also feel like Jesper’s guilt really is something that's left out a lot during any sort of depiction of him. He carries a LOT of guilt with him, from lying to his father, accidentally selling out inej, not taking the parem to help Nina etc. It's a core part of his character and of his development because he has to learn to face his guilt and make amends instead of avoiding it. Although, a lot of things about Jesper that aren't comedic qualities tend to be overlooked for some reason.
