Thinking about Quinlan and Obi-Wan again. Those guys. Those bickering, deeply tender guys who are so weird about each other. Thank you to Deb Chow for Obi-Wan saying "Quinlan was here?" like that so I could then tumble down into the hole of collecting every single solitary piece of canon or legends material involving them and then turn to writing a lot of fic. That was the only way I could respond to Obi-Wan's eyes lightning up as he traced over the "only when the eyes are closed can you truly see" inscription. Like, how was I supposed to be normal about that? Anyways. THOSE GUYS.

Okay so a new little idea of mine
You know how in fics where Obi-Wan and Anakin are already married/together, the twins are all grown up and they start to bring home their first boyfriends/girlfriends?
Well Anakin is usually portrayed as the one who disapproves of it, especially regarding Han as a possible love interest for either of the twins but,,, I'm thinking.
Anakin is a romantic to the core. He loves love, and perhaps in a better life for himself he'd delight in watching corny romantic films and swoons over period dramas (his whole speech to padme when he confesses? Please he was Like That for a Reason ™).
He's an incurable romantic, and now that he has the love of his life Obi-Wan by his side always, I bed he'd love to see his children find the right person for them (tho I don't ofc dismiss him being protective over them or giving the possible love interest a stink eye).
But this is more about Han, specifically.
Usually in fics where he's a love interest for either Luke or Leia, Anakin disapproves of it while Obi-Wan is more encouraging and I'm like,,,,
No, sirs. No, madams. No, non-binary folks.
Han is a pilot and a good one a that. He loves his ship and he's a proficient mechanic too. Anakin would prolly be a bit wary about his past but they'd bond about their shared passion sooner or later. Not saying they'd be buddy buddy but the possibility is there.
Obi-Wan tho.
We have canon material about his interactions with Han! And if y'all don't think while watching their interactions that Obi-Wan is so over Han's bullshit I dunno what film have you watched lol
Their first encounter and this is Obi-Wan's face.
Tumblr media
He's literally like: this dude is only trouble. I won't let him date my son. Absolutely not. I veto this.
And it continues when Han speaks of the force.
Tumblr media
For Anakin I think it would be even more hilarious to hear him dismiss the Force as something that do not exist, since you know it's his second parent... But Obi-Wan's face? His little smirk? He's like please. Please let me out of there before I become uncivilised ergo juggle him around using the force.
Anyway thank you for coming to my ted talk about why Obi-Wan would kick Han's ass both physically and verbally if he tried something with his children. Honestly Han was lucky Obi-Wan was dead in the later films 😂

Do you think Yoda saw all of his past students in Luke?
He saw that rage and unquenchable desire for a system corrupted to be changed, just like Dooku? He saw that peace and patience and desire to learn that Qui-Gon had? The same sass and empathy that Obi-Wan held? The same desire to live up to the people who came before him, just like Ahsoka?
And, of course, he saw Anakin there. In blue eyes and lopsided grin. In the affectionate touch to a droid. In the raw power, the untapped potential that could sway to the light or the dark so easily.
Do you think he saw the best and worst of them all? Do you think he looked at Luke and remembered training Dooku? Do you think he saw Luke heading in the direction of a maverick and missed Qui-Gon? Do you think he watched Luke grow and learn and all he could think about was that pure, uncorrupted kid from Tatooine? The kid who wanted to free slaves, the kid who fell in love hard and fast, the kid whose trust was hardwon, the kid who grew up into the antithesis of everything he once was?
Do you ever wonder what was going through Yoda’s mind on long nights? When Luke would get impatient and storm off, only to return a few moments later, calm and ready to try again. Do you think he held onto that fear, the fear that stuck with him for so long, that yet another member of his lineage would die before their time or turn to the Dark Side or just leave entirely?
Do you ever think of Yoda trying to hide things from Luke, only to get tired of it? He told Luke about his sister. The one secret that would have died with him. Artoo can’t tell anybody. Everyone else who knows - Padme, Bail, Obi-Wan - is dead. They could have just left him in the dark. They could have taken that secret and not let it potentially sway Luke’s emotions one way or the other.
That was the plan, wasn’t it? Obi-Wan is surprised when he finds out that Yoda told Luke. The plan had to have been to not tell him, to never tell him, to never risk Luke forming an unhealthy attachment to his sister that would lead him down the path of the Dark Side. That would never start Leia on the path of becoming a Jedi, meaning she would never even be at risk.
But, Yoda was dying. He was dying and he had so long to think of all the things he should have done differently. He was dying and he looked up at Luke, who they were putting the weight of the world on. They were telling Luke that the future of the galaxy was entirely on his shoulders. The sale of absolutely everyone was on him and him alone. They told him he was the last Jedi.
So Yoda must have looked up and seen that pressure. That loneliness. The Jedi of old had large communities. They lived and breathed and grew with each other. They never felt alone, because they always had someone to turn to, someone to talk to, someone they trusted to keep their head above water.
And here they were, leaving Luke alone. Telling him to rebuild the Jedi Order. Telling him to kill his own father. Telling him to kill the Emperor, but not out of anger or hatred or guilt.
Yoda figured out that this would just make it all happen again. Dooku turned because he didn’t trust the Jedi Order and he felt alone. Anakin turned because he didn’t trust the Jedi Order and he felt alone. If Luke was sent to face off against two of the most powerful Force-users, both of whom are Sith, then he would only lose faith in Yoda and Obi-Wan, and he would feel all alone, and he would turn to the Dark Side.
I think Yoda told Luke about Leia out of a desire to give Luke that support system. The Jedi all had bonds with each other, with their teachers and students, but even without bonds, they were still functionally telepaths. They were empaths. They needed a strong support system to be there when the weight got too much to bear. When the darkness of the galaxy weighed on them, when the failures of the past haunted them, when they felt so lost and confused and empty, they had each other. And that’s what Yoda was giving Luke.
He was trying to say, “Even without your father, you won’t be alone. Even without me or Obi-Wan, you won’t be alone. You’ll always have another person, a person who can and has built you up and kept your head above water. A person who you’ve done the same for. You support each other, you’ve supported each other for years now, and you will always continue to support each other.”
Luke and Leia aren’t “attached” to each other. They’re each others’ safety net. They need each other, but not out of attachment. They need each other as everyone needs someone or something to remind them of all the good things in the world when things get rough. They remind each other that they need to fight, to live on. They remind each other that the galaxy is good at its core, filled with good people who just need some help.
They remind each other that they aren’t alone. They trust each other. They don’t need the power of the Dark Side.
And that’s why it’s so important to remember that Yoda told Luke there was another Skywalker. Yoda, who has been against attachment since the beginning, is the one who risks Luke getting attached. It’s important because this is a major character moment for Yoda!
He sees them. All of them. Dooku felt alone and left them behind to try and feel power to feel safe. Qui-Gon died alone, with only Obi-Wan there to help him, far away from the Jedi. Obi-Wan died alone. Anakin felt alone and abandoned and wanted power to feel safe. Ahsoka felt alone and abandoned and left the Order, because she no longer trusted them. They all lost it, that safety net, those people who were always around them to keep them above water, that support system that reminded them that they weren’t alone and they would never be abandoned and —
Don’t you think Yoda blames himself?
His own Padawan felt like he had no choice but to leave. Obi-Wan feared attachment out of fear of being cast aside, of being abandoned. Anakin fought that desire for attachment, that desire for someone to be there when he fell, and he when he finally got even a hint of it, he hid it out of fear of it being taken away and him being abandoned for having needed it in the first place.
Of course Yoda blames himself. He outlived all of them. He’s far older than them. And his own fear of his loss overpowering him, the fear that watching everyone he loves die over and over again beause of how much longer he’ll live than any of them, is what kept his Lineage from having those safety nets in place. Those support beams.
He looks at Luke and he sees that rage that Dooku had, that eagerness to learn that Qui-Gon had, that empathy that Obi-Wan had, that innocent desire to help that Ahsoka had—
And he sees that little boy from Tatooine. The one who grew up into a monster. The one who grew distorted and disfigured and who hated them all and tore them all down. That possibility lives within Luke to. The overwhelming weight of responsibility put on one person’s shoulders, the same weight that Palpatine used to manipulate Anakin into believing that none of the Jedi could ever help or understand him.
Yoda tells Luke about Leia. He isn’t specific, he doesn’t name a name, but he knows he doesn’t have to. He doesn’t want Luke to feel lost and abandoned and alone. He wants Luke to feel strong. He gives Luke that support beam. That attachment that could so quickly overwhelm him or become unhealthy. He gives Luke this because Luke trusts him, and he doesn’t want Luke to feel like he can’t trust him.
He doesn’t want any Jedi to feel alone. He doesn’t want to see them fall to the same things the Jedi in the past did.
But most importantly, Yoda cared for the Jedi. All of them, and especially his own students. He feels their loss, even lightyears away. He wouldn’t have felt the loss of life if he didn’t care for them, not from such a far distance. And he wouldn’t have been as affected by it if he didn’t care about them. He cared about the Jedi, about his students and his Lineage and even about the little runt that Qui-Gon brought back from Tatooine.
He cares about Luke. He has so much faith in Luke. He doesn’t want Luke to die like the others. He doesn’t want Luke to die alone and feeling abandoned.
Yoda gave Luke that attachment. Because he didn’t want Luke to drown under the weight of everything they were expecting of him.

I need more of Luke and or Leia time traveling to the TCW era and being menaces while also being wildly competent and extremely powerful in the force. Like by the jedi’s standards they are incredibly op. They might not be as powerful as Anakin but depending when they time travel they could either be two kids with massive potential and strength in the force all the way to the grandmaster of the Jedi order that the lost tribe of the sith are terrified of and not only a Jedi master, but a skilled politician who has been sneaking around and getting shit done since she was all of 15.
The point is, the Jedi counsel are tearing their hair out in frustration and confusion while two mystery Jedi who are scarily powerful in the force and (once again depending on how old they are, at least for Luke) both scarily competent. And they came out of nowhere and killed chancellor Palpatine who turned out to be a sith lord?! and then the woman convinced everyone that Bail Organa should be the new chancellor and then her and her brother kidnapped the chosen one and Senator Amidala for mandatory therapy and family bonding.
(In reality they just tell Padme they’re her kids from the future and she grabs Anakin and maybe Ahsoka and whisks off to an isolated part of Naboo where they can hash this all out.)
Ahsoka and Obi-wan go after them but it turns out to be a non-event and Anakin is very hesitantly like this is Ahsoka and Padme jumps in saying she’s like a little sister her and after Luke and Leia get done gaping wondering why they never heard of her Obi-wan starts to introduce himself but Luke is just like “Ben!” And gives him a hug, maybe dropping in a comment about how he has wanted to do that for ages but you can’t exactly touch a force ghost.
Or alternatively they tell no one who they are, and through a series of misunderstandings everyone thinks Luke is Anakin’s older brother who was taken from Shmi when he was really young but he was freed at some point as a teenager and adopted by Leia’s family. (Solo is a pretty common Corellian name and it is mentioned that Luke and Leia met when they were 17 or 18)
This assumption leads to a very awkward Luke who doesn’t know how to deal with Anakin thinking he’s his uncle and eagerly trying to bond. But it does give him a foot in the door to Anakin trusting him and talking to him about all this dark side stuff.
Or alternatively the solo/skywalker kids somehow end up in the past, coming from sometime during the Youzhan Vong war before Anakin (Solo) dies. And they are also strong in the force and for a bunch of kids they are once again scarily competent. (They did after all just come from one of the worst wars the galaxy had faced in a long time and so to them the clone wars, while diffucult could be a whole a worse.) And they just cause absolute mayhem.

Ok, so I have noticed a lot of people portray THAT scene in TLJ as "Luke tried to kill a child!"
Now I have previously pointed out that Luke does not actually attempt to kill kylo, he thinks about it and seriously contemplates doing the deed, but he stops himself in shame
But that's not what I'm here to talk about
I want to talk about the "child" bit
Kylo was not a child
Official sources state these events happen 6 years prior to TLJ
Kylo is 29 in TLJ
He wasn't a child, he was a college graduate
He was older than Anakin when he fell
Hell, when Anakin was 23, he had been Vader for a year
When Obi-Wan was 23, it was 2 years before TPM
When Padme was 23, it was a year before AOTC
When Han was 23, it was 6 years before ANH (and therefore 3 years after Solo and 1 year before Rebels)
When Luke and Leia were 23, that was the events of ROTJ
Finn and Rose are 23 in TLJ
Kylo was no child, what happened was terrible, but it was not attempted (wasn't even really attempted) child murder, the bonds of trust broken here were not of child and adult, but mentor and student, uncle and mentor, and most importantly, it does not justify or exonerate kylo of what he's done, he was a grown man who made his own choices

hey so i was trying to explain to a friend how ace characters/narratives written by non-ace people sometimes just dont hit right (even when they are well meaning) and i so badly wanted to resort to just recc’ing your fox & leia stories to them. i guess this is my way of saying thanks again for writing toocb and the holiday special. they’re such a delicious & funky duo of works too, almost like a greek tragedy + satyr play or a fixit for a problem you created.
FIXIT FOR PROBLEM I CREATED. YEAH THAT'S IT. THAT'S IT YEAH. Literally had to deal with how sad the canon events of toocb were while writing by imagining a less depressing version ljaskdf. And tragedy & satyr play is a very cool way to put it!
In Star Wars, love is the most powerful thing. It's the most destructive force in the galaxy and it's the only thing that could save it. The Force and love are strongly linked, and love has caused the worst atrocities and greatest triumphs. If love is in a Star Wars story, it needs to be this explosively insane thing. Like, it has to go hard and people have to be fucking insane about it. Nobody can be normal about love in Star Wars. In a lot of ways, Star Wars is a story about love.
Romantic love is never qualified in that! Anakin & Padme's romantic love and Anakin & Obi-Wan's platonic love were equally cataclysmic to the galaxy. Han & Leia's romantic love showed how wartime and conflict can't extinguish the care two people can have for each other, and Luke & Anakin's love for each other restored hope to the galaxy. Jyn & Cassian, Baze & Chirrut - their bonds and loyalty to each other destroyed the Death Star and allowed them to die together instead of alone. As a kid I fucking loved how Luke didn't end up with anybody at the end, and how his happy ending was saving somebody's soul and relieving them of their suffering, and how a girl really didn't need to fit into that. Which is why DinLuke be dull as hell and JangObi I am looking at you too.
That was where I wanted Fox & Leia to fit. It was a love story. They loved each other. Briefly, purposelessly, uselessly. It didn't change the galaxy or change anybody's fate. The only thing it did was save somebody's soul and relieve them of their suffering. Meaningless! And the most important thing that ever happened in Star Wars.
Of course the Holiday Special is a lot more jokey and sitcom about it, but it gave me a lot more room to actually depict the relationship as it deserved to exist and how something so simple and uncomplicated is made complicated by their hierarchical and rigid society. And I think that's where it actually went into the more ace themes of your private relationship being relentlessly scrutinized & interpreted by people who can't really get it and who are missing the point. By necessity it was something private to them, but I think that's where they both liked it.
Honestly, I didn't even write it to be specifically ace. Like Fox and Leia did, I just decided on 'love' and stopped there. I don't know what they'd call their relationship in the Holiday Special and I think they'd both shrug about it.
I write a lot of stories with ace themes for a lot of reasons, but I think part of it is really just the fact that the topic encompasses every way we relate to each other and understand love. It opens up the structure and method of telling these stories, and allows us to talk about love in a different way. Once we kinda stop and go 'wait there's no rules actually' then I think we can start doing some really interesting stuff. It's really rewarding. I recommend it.

There is also the fact that the Old Jedi never knew the strenght of a father and Son bond just like they never understood that Anakin being worried for his Mom because of their bond wasn´t a bad thing or something to fear but something to protect and so when they thought about Anakin they only saw a power hungry sith they should have killed years ago, someone who had to pay for the fall of the Order, they didn´t ever consider Anakin/Vader always thought about family, they didn´t consider Anakin would love his child and want him to be at his side even as a sith, not just for some sith plot but because he is his Son and he loves him. Vader deliberately didn´t kill Luke or his friends in Bespin out of love for his Son and when Luke clearly wanted to get away from him he let him go, out of love for him.
I also consider quite cold the way Obi-Wan starts talking about Luke as if he was already lost just for going to Bespin, "that boy was our only hope" while Yoda answers "there is another" it makes them look like they think about Anakin´s children , Luke and Leia as just a means to their ends, never consider their wishes or perspective or the fact Padme and Anakin or the Organas and Lars would not have wanted that for them, because for Yoda and Obi-Wan the wishes of the parents were of no importance, even after losing their entire order, they are still acting with arrogance and entitlement over Anakin´s and Padme´s children so Luke had to forgive them as well to be able to forgive Vader and offer his father his love and his acceptance.
Hi! I was rewatching RotJ and I'm a bit confused as to what Yoda meant when he said "unexpected, this is" when Luke said that Vader told him he was his father. Did Yoda mean that it was unexpected that Vader realized Luke was his son or unexpected as in he didn't think Vader would even care? What's your take on it? (Luke and Vader's dynamic throughout the three movies is so fascinating, their scenes are my favourite in the trilogy)
It was unexpected that he would be called out on his lies omission. It was unexpected that Luke would have found out the truth. It was unexpected that Luke would care about his father. It was unexpected that Luke would be an independent actor capable of making his own moral decisions instead of just swallowing whatever bullshit Yoda and Obi-Wan spewed.

My Star Wars Fic Recommendations
Part One | Part Two | Part Three
Seeds of the Past -“Are you Luke Skywalker?” Ahsoka’s tone was a bit harsher than she would have liked, mostly due to a hoarse nervousness. It spurred a reaction though, as the man immediately turned to face her. Her eyes widened, as a familiar shade of blue stared back at her. The man bore a few distinct battle scars, but his face was youthful, his jaw square, his chin dimpled. His expression was surprised but gentle, sweet in its polite greeting. He raised his eyebrows for a split second, before responding with a shy smile and a nod. “I am. Can I help you, ma’am?”
Tainted Light - “I'm Luke Skywalker.” Cal's breath caught in his throat. Had the stranger not said it, he would never have guessed. “Cal Kestis,” he replied, holding out a hand and hoping Skywalker hadn't noticed his surprise. “I've been wanting to meet you.”
Momentum - Sometimes, Luke finds that he misses a few things from home. Luke and Leia share a quiet, peaceful moment on a Seswenna beach, and reflect on what they've lost.
The Family Amidala - Padmé lives. She runs.
Your Best Colors - Obi-Wan and Anakin aren't just a team, they are The Team. This series of loosely connected one-shots will explore the bond that makes them The Team through three different eras in their relationship.
To These Memories - After Darth Sidious is defeated, everything changes. Some for the better, others not so much. Mostly better though.
The Thought That Counts - Anakin tries to give Leia a compliment. It doesn't go over well.
Knightrise - There is no battle on Mustafar or in Coruscant's senate building. Instead, a small but still alive Jedi Order rises from its ashes on Mandalore.
Everything but Goodbye - When Anakin leaves the Jedi, he and Obi-Wan say everything but goodbye.
Supreme Chancellor Obi-Wan Kenobi - By and old Republic law, all members of the Jedi High Council are senators in the Galactic Senate, and can thus be voted in as chancellor. A Senator from a less prominent planet has had enough of Chancellor Palpatine’s incompetence and calls for for a Vote of No-Confidence and the instillation of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi as Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic.
A Guide to Jedi Antics by Captain Rex of the 501st Battalion - Anakin gets his first foundling, aka stumbled upon a Force-sensitive child in the middle of battle. Rex is tired.
What Should Have Happened - Anakin discovered that Palpatine was a Sith Lord, and now all he has to do is sit still in the Council room and let the Master Jedi handle it. But Palpatines plan to save Padme's life looms in his mind and it shakes him to his core. He leaves the Council room with no plan in mind, and find himself in the halls of healing asking for help. He didn't mean for them to put him in the psych ward. That is what honesty gets you. With his child about to be born, and his nightmares of Padme in distress increasing, has Anakin made a big mistake? Or is this the will of the Force?
Talking Smack - At a state dinner with Sheev Palpatine, Obi-wan Kenobi gets a little creeped out by Palpatine’s habit of prolonging physical contact with people longer than necessary, brushing hands, and otherwise touching people, especially Anakin. During dinner, he schemes with Padme for how to get creepy uncle palps to lay off.
Episode ???: A New Hope - One chance to fix everything. He could do this. He can do this. Obi-Wan had so many questions and very few answers. Just to get better, he’d have to deal with it cautiously - for now, no one could know what’d happened to him - and he had to pretend to be an unremarkable Initiate, while he decided which path he would guide the Order to save the galaxy. No pressure. He’d been once a GAR High General and he was never behind his paperwork. He could do this.
If the world was ending - Five times Ahsoka Tano caught a glimpse of just how much Obi-Wan Kenobi had an effect on Anakin Skywalker, and the one time she realized how much Anakin Skywalker meant to Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Perception - Clone Commander Fox is not fond of Senators nor how they abuse his men. Senator Riyo Chuchi is new and only knows what the media portrays about clones. Only time will show them the truth about each other.

Out of curiosity, do you have any good star wars fic recommendations that are pro Anakin? I've been trying to find them. Like I don't hate Obi-wan as a protagonist, but they're so ubiquitous and it gets old. it would be nice to read a fanfic that treats Anakin better.
Oh, yes, there are a number of fanfics out there that treat Anakin/Vader as a really great protagonist. My favorite ones are the time travel fix-it canon divergent AUs and the ones where he see him trying to be a dad to Luke and Leia. People in this fandom know how to make it both heartwarming and terrifying when he’s Vader, and it’s great.
The Truth by MJ Mink - This is probably my favorite canon-divergent AU fic. In this fic, Luke Skywalker is an essentially goodhearted, but rebellious 15 year old boy when meets his father Darth Vader. After losing his Aunt and Uncle Beru, he goes to live with his father. Of course, this fic takes place in the series after Anakin has become Darth Vader in the story, so he’s not always a good dad to Luke. There are some instances where he goes into the abusive parent territory, even if it’s not premeditated. While there’s no excuse for it, he has become so used to just being Palpatine’s deeply and horrifyingly angry, disillusioned, domineering, and merciless attack dog/galactic dictatorial enforcer/murder servant Darth Vader.
Understandably, it’s not just this easy cycle for Anakin to break right away after spending 37-40 years as both the perpetrator and/or victim of systematic abuse of power, crime, manipulation, oppression, and violence to deal with problems and threats under corrupt male toxic authority figures from whom healthy support and safe escape was always highly risky. However, Anakin’s greatest morality pet is his son Luke and family in general. That’s true in this fic too, which is why he gets better at being a good dad to Luke over time the closer they become.
While never putting up with his dad’s shit, Luke also does learn to ultimately forgive and love his father, the more Anakin softens up towards him, and the more he learns about just how tragically fucked up and unfair his dad’s entire life has been.
It’s a really great story with plenty of really great angst, character development, and humor. This Luke isn’t pro Sith because I mean, look at the crimes they commit! However, after hearing his dad’s story, he’s not really pro-Yoda, Obi-Wan, and the old Jedi Order’s way either. He’s neutral, which I really like. Although the Jedi started out as the good guys in the SW universe, it quickly became apparent that most of them only got to hold that title because the Sith were their only competition who were far worse. It always bugged me that we could never get a SW canon story that had more characters pointing out that both sides suck, and deciding not to be either as a result. The closest we got to that in canon was Ahsoka Tano, but the Mouse ruined that too.
Test of Time Book 1: A Father’s Son by AngelDesaray - This is a whole story of Luke Skywalker being thrust back in time by the force, learning about his father, bonding with his father, and changing the entire future by stopping him, Obi-Wan, and the Jedi Council from falling for Palpatine and doing all their other bullshit. It’s followed up by Test of Time Book 2: The Past Meets the Future and Test of Time Book 3: Blood, Sweat, and Tears. The sequels follow the Skywalker family in the alternate future that Luke created after going back in time, particularly Anakin and Luke. The first two fics in this series are complete. The third one still hasn’t been marked as complete yet. There’s also a series of cute, fluffy, and funny one shots that talk about the years in between the alternate timeline with Anakin, Padme, Luke, and Leia as a happy family called Life as a Skywalker. Yeah, Obi-Wan makes appearances as Anakin’s and the Skywalker family’s friend, and, occasionally the twins irritated babysitter, considering the fact that this version seems to have learned from his mistakes with Anakin, but he’s not a main character.
Future Imperfect by TheRealThing - A time travel fic where Anakin is sent 19 to 23 years in to the future to witness the consequences of his and the overall Jedi Order’s actions.
Ambient Dreams by sohna - After his dream of Padme dying in childbirth, Anakin has another dream of what will happen if he pledges himself to Palpatine to try to keep her from dying in childbirth. Obi-Wan and Yoda are there, but Anakin’s the main character, not them.
There are a lot more on ff.net and ao3.org in the Star Wars sections, but these Anakin/Vader fics stick out the most to me.

I feel like one of the big upsides to Qui-Gon living long enough to see Ahsoka join the lineage is that I can see him unquestionably agreeing to let her learn how to braid hair on him. Obi-Wan just chopped off his mullet and Skyguy's still growing out his padawan cut, but Qui-Gon's got long hair, and Ahsoka finds hair fascinating because she doesn't have any (except her eyelashes), and Ahsoka learns how to do Padme-and-Leia-level hair nonsense with Qui-Gon as her indulgently willing Weird Dad/Grandpa/whateverheissheisn'tsurehe'smaybejustanuncle??
I think there's something just inherently really tender and loving in the act of doing someone's hair for them. Maybe it's because they can't do it themself, maybe it's because you're better at it, maybe it's just because you want to, but the act of gathering someone's hair in your hands just gently enough to keep from hurting them, but tight enough that they can feel you working, the warmth of your presence against their back... that makes me INSANE.
This is doubly detrimental for my rapidly crumbling sanity when we're talking about it specifically in the context of padawan braids. There's just something inescapably sweet and compelling about a master redoing their padawan's braid for them, re-confirming that they want them, that they're here to help and guide and support in whatever way they need it. Every time they take the time to rebraid, it's a renewal of a covenant—an expression of devotion.
I think that at least for some Jedi, braiding someone else's hair—not just the padawan braid, but all hair, especially after knighting—becomes something not just akin to saying 'I love you,' but more than that. For Ahsoka, whose lineage is composed almost entirely of humans but doesn't have any hair, that's gotta be a little isolating; she's missing out on a tradition and bonding exercise that goes back multiple generations. It's not just that she's fascinated by hair (which she is, because keratinous strands growing out of people's heads is weird), it's that hair braiding is something she wants to participate in, even if Skyguy can't do it for her.
So Qui-Gon inviting her in, patiently teaching her how to braid his hair—it's not just cute and sweet and a little embarrassing when the braid is lumpy and lopsided—it's her being welcomed. It's her being loved.

MY FAV STAR WARS COUPLE DYNAMICS:
(for the sake of this post let's all just pretend no one dies, ok?)
Anakin - Padme: their relationship started with pure drama and really bad, corny pick up lines and it just goes on that way. Even when they are happily exiled on Naboo with their children and everyone knows about them, whenever they talk about their love or tell the story to Luke and Leia it's always with the tones of a 'larger than life situation'. Obviously Anakin is the drama queen who really pushes it (and is still salty he had to give up his title as Jedi Master) but Padme fell for him when he did the whole whiny speech about sand and married him, she secretly supports this s***t! 😝
Han - Leia: bickering is their love language. Screaming to impose supremacy is their flirting. The thing is, they never bicker for serious stuff, because they actually agree on what matters and get along as a couple, it's the principle of things! Sometimes a friend of Ben overhears them and goes 😱 "I'm really sorry for intruding on this, pal. Will your parents be alright?" And Ben with the calmest expression will answer "They literally do this all the time". It's the silence that's worriesome. When Leia is just too tired to keep fighting after hours of doing so with politicians, when Han doesn't bother to stay to face the argument and just hops on the Falcon again, THAT'S when they realise they are falling out. So they push duty and lust for adventure aside to go back spending quality time together and patching things up. Sure enough, the bickering starts again and Ben is like "😌 aaah everything is fine again".
Din - Luke: they are the picture perfect couple. They literally never argue, at best they poke eachother when one of the two does something the other doesn't entirely agree on. They have each other's back in any instance, support every choice and are there for backup when others want a fight or have something to say either on Din's leadership or Luke's approach to the Jedi code and teachings. It took them forever to actually get together because they acted like shy teenagers on their first crush and Leia, Han and Cara had to practically push them into each other's arms, but once they got there they were solid a couple as a rock. Others look at them and think they are either disgustingly mushy or still in a 'honeymoon face', because NO ONE has such a stress-free marriage. Din and Luke truly don't get what the fuss and all the drama's about. So even though they end up practically parenting the space version of the kids from 'Cheaper by the dozen' they act like parental figures to their friends as well. Life as Manda'lor and the Reviver of the Jedi order can be hell, but together they are just balanced like that and can face everything! They even create a new co-op fighting style for Jedi/Mandalorians that becomes the terror and amazement of the Galaxy for centuries to come!😌😏💪
Kannan - Hera: very similar to Dinluke except they do at times have some small moments of tension because Hera is a fighter to the core and Kannan can't help but wonder if the battle will ever truly end. But his queen's passion and resolve is so bright and steeled that he can't help but fall in love a little more every time and follow, knowing it's the right thing to do. They have an example to set for their son, after all. Kannan will absolutely love Jacen and will introduce Ezra to his son (once Sabine and Ashoka bring him back) as his older brother. Much like when he trained Ezra or faced Sabine, Kannan will sometimes doubt himself and wonder if he's acting like a good parent to Jacen. Hera will smile and reassure him, describing to him the bright and happy smile on their son's face or how Jecen's nose scrunches and his long, greenish ears wiggle in delight whenever Kannan plays with him or cuddles him. As Hera says so, Kannan holds her and feels like he can actually see it too.
Sabine - Ezra: After Ezra is brought back to his family from wherever or whatever happened to him after facing Thrawn, both of them will just indulge in sudden hugs or touches to make sure the other is actually there. Of course, they first think of their bond as a solid friendship and camaraderie, because that's what it was when they left off. The extra touching is just the response to being apart for so long and being worried for each other. But then Sabine notices that Ezra actually looks really good with long hair and the scruffy beard he grew out. She catches herself thinking of how warm and safe if feels in his arms and mentally kicks herself because she's a Mandalorian, all she should need is a loaded blaster to feel safe. Ezra, on the other hand, starts playing with Sabine's hair when complimenting her new dye and suddenly finds himself cupping her face like it's the most natural thing in the world. Long story short, they fall for eachother hard and become the prototype of the couple "my boyfriend/girlfriend is my best friend". When they are comfortable with their new status, Ezra goes back flirting dorkishly with her like he did all those years back when they first met and Sabine will tease him by shooting his advances down.
Ashoka - Bo Katan: joke's on Bo-katan for cringing back in the day at her sister's relationship with a Jedi. She thought destiny or the force or whatever was really messing with her when she realized that her rival and pupil, Din Djarin, the new leader of Mandalorians was also falling helplessly in love with a Jedi (Obi-Wan's student nonetheless). When she hears Sabine Wren and her Jedi boy also got together she stops questioning it. The thing is that she herself has been inexplicably, undeniably charmed and hooked to a Jedi for years now. The very same Jedi she had teased didn't have enough booty, what felt like a lifetime prior. But she's Bo-Katan, she can be in angry denial about anything. Ashoka, on the other hand, has seen and has been conditioned too much on what attachment does to a Jedi, even if she doesn't consider herself one anymore. So, even if the chemistry between them and the long lingering stares are real, their love is always kept a quiet, unspoken thing. Whenever they call eachother "my old friend" they know they actually mean more, but leave it at that. Everyone around them can't help wondering 'are they a thing or...?!' but they never feed the theories and gossip. They know what they are and mean for each other when they are alone in the same room, talking about the past or what must be done in the future and Ashoka's mere presence is enough to cool down the ever-present burning rage inside of Bo. Meanwhile, the other can't help but admire how single minded and devoted to her people and culture the Mandalorian princess is, how she never gave up on them, despite everything. They smile softly at each other, then one of them breaks the spell by leaving. They go back to their own business and life untill destiny or the force or whatever brings them back into eachother's orbit.
Revan - Carth: normally they act very much like Leia and Han with the bickering and teasing bit but then Revan has one of her memories returning or is haunted by how she basically condemned her lifelong best friend Malak to a terrible death and Carth instantly does a 180° shift becoming the most caring, comforting and tender partner. She'll hide into his chest until the crisis in over. Sometimes it can go on for days and Revan is oh, so grateful of how patient and good Carth is to her. Then, at times, Carth is the one burying his head in her chest and she's the one doing the tender, hair strokes. Carth needs a lot of reassuring and might get upset and fret over even what appears to be a trivial thing. He's trying to heal and get better but the long, long years of solitude, hurt and paranoia are hard to iron down. Expecially when Carth seems to have an instinct that puts a Jedi to shame, foreseeing a crisis neither she nor Bastila had picked up. But he is making an effort to improve and she's proud of him, even as he tries very clumsily to patch things up with his son Dustil. She doesn't really step in that matter more than she has to, since Dustil is clearly not happy nor comfortable with the idea of them being together yet. Carth will sometimes open his heart to her and say something deeply meaningful on how he wants her to stay ( when she looks particularly haunted and about to leave without a work of warning) and be happy but does so with such awkward word choices that Revan just cannot refrain from laughing at his face and making puns. It's at this point that the back and forth teasing resumes. There is no denying they are still deeply wounded individuals and they are at their best when their friends are there to lighten the mood and show love to the both of them. Because they could easily go down the path of drama like Anakin and Padme but they choose the Ebon Hawk crew shenanigans instead.
Obi Wan - Satine: their love is stored in the memory of that glorious time they spent together in their youth. A moment in which no responsibility or sense of honor could keep them from giving in to that feeling of want and need for each other. It's a love that never truly went away, never left space for anyone else, but it never fully grew and bloomed either. So years down the line, that's what it is for Obi-Wan, a pleasant memory. He would never change how things went afterwards, but he wouldn't give up those memories and feelings for anything in the world. Satine feels the same, mostly. There are nights that she falls asleep wondering what could have been if only she had talked up at the decisive moment and dreams of a life spent together with Obi-Wan. But when she wakes up, she sobers up and goes back to her things. It's when she looks at her Korkie smile and notices how resembling to his secret father he is that she is truly at peace. She managed to keep a peace of Obi-Wan in her life.
Cal - Merrin: I have no idea for this one, but just stop and consider the possible 'nightsisters babies' though! Wouldn't they be the cutest things ever?! 😀
Sorry Cara Dune, you just haven't met the woman of your life yet. 😔
Also, I kinda like Zeb and Callus too but I don't really ship them enough to add them here, you know? Anyway I'm sure they make a lovely couple.

thanks to this gorgeous art by @hrtiu I’ve thinking about Thornidala and this AU happened
Thorn doesn’t die on Scipio. Because I said so. He does need some extensive surgery to both his chest and his brain, and parts of his brain need to be replaced with cybernetic implants, but he’s still fit for duty.
after Anakin leaves for the Outer Rim sieges Padme’s left alone and Thorn is escorting her places as part of her security detail and they become buddies
when Padme finds out she’s pregnant Thorn is the only person she tells ... because he caught her puking into a trash can in her office between Senate meetings
she keeps missing opportunities to tell Anakin on the rare occasions they get to talk (she was going to break the news to him during their chat when he was on Anaxes before they got interrupted)
Padme and Thorn continue to bond during this time, and Thorn starts to catch feelings; even though he can’t be with Padme and he can’t ever play a proper fatherly role to the baby, he still feels protective of them
(using singular baby because in ROTS they didn’t know she was having twins until it was time to deliver)
The events of ROTS happen and everything goes to shit. Because Thorn suffered head injuries on Scipio that required extensive surgery and cybernetic implants, his inhibitor chip was unknowingly removed, so when he receives That Order he’s like “um ... what? doesn’t make sense but okay”
instead of going to hunt down Jedi he goes to Padme’s - she’s a Senator after all, and if the Jedi are attempting an overthrow of the Senate she’ll need protection, right?
he sits with her as they watch the Jedi Temple burn and she leans her head on his shoulder and cries kinda like she does in the movie
when she goes to Mustafar Thorn insists on going with her - he doesn’t know everything going on with Anakin but he does know that Mustafar is in Separatist space so he feels duty-bound to go and protect his friend
at first he stays on the ship at Padme’s insistence, but after Anakin chokes her out and starts fighting Obi-Wan he carries her back onboard and sits with her until Obi-Wan returns
Padme may be injured from being Force-choked and heartbroken, but she doesn’t die Because I Said So. She survives childbirth and gets to hold her babies.
Obi-Wan and Bail Organa make arrangements for Padme, Thorn, and the babies to go into hiding.
(Thorn will eventually catch wind that there are some rogue clones running around and that they’re not only avoiding the Empire but actively fighting against them. He’s tempted to go find them but he can’t bring himself to leave Padme or the babies.)
It takes a few years for Padme to reciprocate Thorn’s feelings. Like she catches on that he likes her as more than a friend, but it takes a while for her to address it because she’s grieving the loss of her marriage to Anakin, not to mention busy raising Luke and Leia and helping Bail with the Rebellion on the down-low.
She realizes she likes him back out of the blue one day, when she’s watching him play with the kids and thinking about how good he is with them, how he’s really stepped into the role of Dad, and how he’d been her rock the entire time they’ve been friends.
is she skittish about the prospect of starting another relationship and falling in love again? Of course she is, especially since her husband became a Sith Lord and betrayed everything she held dear ... presumably out of love for her.
(she wouldn’t trade her time with Anakin for anything though, with all its ups and downs, especially since she got two rambunctious little blessings out of it)
(does she know how to broach the subject of the kids’ biological father to them? nope, that’s Future Padme’s problem)
but she does talk with Thorn about how she feels, and they decide to give it a shot
Rebel Spy Power Couple? Rebel Spy Power Couple.
are they thrilled when Leia wants to take a more active role in the Rebellion and Luke wants to train to become a Jedi with Obi-Wan? Not really, it’s dangerous after all (and they’re scared that Luke might go the same way as Anakin) but they still support the kids in their endeavors.
they eventually have to have that uncomfortable conversation about Anakin with the kids after the events on Bespin (Padme is also ready to go bitchslap Vader herself after he cut off Luke’s hand and kidnapped Leia a few times)
Padme and Thorn both make it to the end of the Galactic Civil War, still very much in love, and they sit together under a tree on Endor as they watch the fireworks, the revelry, and Luke and Leia enjoying the company of their friends
(Thorn doesn’t care much for Han, he thinks Leia can do better, but what can he do? Leia’s stubborn and has a mind of her own, just like her mother)

Star Wars Fear Street au anybody? (Part 1)
There’s no 1666 plot, the ‘curse’ begins in 1978 with Anakin, who kind of takes Sarah’s role as the one blamed for the curse and all that.
1978
It’s still a summer camp slasher, with Anakin (Shadysider) and Obi-Wan (Sunnyvaler) as camp counsellors (they’re a bit older than the ones in the movie though).
Ahsoka (Shadysider) is a Ziggy parallel, she doesn’t really want to be at camp and acts out because of it, but Anakin sees through that and takes her under his wing, developing a sibling bond with her.
Anakin and Padme (Sunnyvaler) and recently had twins, who Padme is at home looking after while Anakin is working at the summer camp. They’ve also had to deal with people being assholes about their relationship because of the tension between Shadysider and Sunnyvale.
Palpatine, a vague placeholder for the Goode family, is running for mayor of Sunnyvale and makes a deal with the devil in order to win the vote, starting tbe curse. He signs Anakin name away as he’s an easy person to blame (bad childhood, has a grudge against both neighbourhoods for the way they treated him and Padme’s relationship etc).
So Anakin gets possessed and begins slaughtering younglings campers. Ahsoka is with him when it happens and she manages to escape by tying a sack over his head (like Ziggy did to Tommy) and running.
Obi-Wan, as the head counsellor, is desperately trying to find out what’s going on after he finds one of the campers dead. He eventually regroups with Ahsoka, who tells him it’s Anakin killing campers. He then calls up Padme thinking she might know why Anakin is doing this, but this just results in Padme showing up at the summer camp herself.
The group splits off, with Obi-Wan going off to gather all the remaining campers and Ahsoka and Padme going to find Anakin.
They try to talk him down - and it does briefly look like it works - but he ends up attacking them both and leaving them for dead.
Obi-Wan finds them a while later and manages to save Ahsoka, but not Padme.
After this Anakin isn’t seen again but the police do indeed use the reasoning mentioned earlier.
Ahsoka still believes Anakin is out there, and she still sees the good in him, believing it wasn’t him acting like that, which Obi-Wan wants to believe but also struggles to.
Ahsoka goes into hiding (again like Ziggy) and dedicates her life to researching the curse, while Obi-Wan moves to Shadyside, changes his name to Ben to avoid questions about the massacre and raises Luke and Leia, telling them that both their parents were victims of the massacre, rather than that their dad was a serial killer.

Unexpected Knowledge
The arrival of Anakin and Padme saved Obi-Wan from continuing a boring conversation with the Senator from Lothal. Excusing himself, he hurried over to them, doing his best to avoid any delays with as much charm as he had available to him.
“Hello,” he greeted them, kissing Padme’s cheek and clasping Anakin’s hand.
“Thank the Force you’re here, Obi-Wan,” Anakin said. “You haven’t been at the last three victory parties.”
He had last seen Anakin and Padme at one of these events only two days ago. Raising his eyebrow, Obi-Wan said, “I didn’t know I missed any.”
“It’s like every single Senator is throwing one,” his former Padawan grumbled.
“Not every Senator,” Padme countered, taking Anakin’s arm and leaning against him. “And I’d think you’d like being praised and honored for defeating Darth Sidious.”
“Indeed,” Obi-Wan said dryly.
Anakin threw him a look. “Like you’re not getting plenty of that, too, Master.”
“True,” Obi-Wan acknowledged. And it was true that all the accolades were a bit much.
“See? I’d rather be home with the twins,” Anakin said.
Padme beamed up at Anakin, who looked down at her and returned her smile. As he watched them, Obi-Wan wondered how he could have ever denied the evidence of his own eyes. Even choosing to ignore the question, it was obvious that Anakin and Padme had a bond that could not be broken.
“How are Luke and Leia?” Obi-Wan asked as the three of them started walking towards the refreshments.
“Perfect,” Anakin said. He started going through his pockets. “I’ve got new holos.”
Padme indulgently rolled her eyes and smiled at Obi-Wan. “Of them doing the same things in the other holos: sleeping and smiling.”
“I’m sure they’re wonderful,” Obi-Wan assured Padme while chuckling.
With a laugh, Padme kissed Anakin’s cheek. “I’m going to get some appetizers. Could you get me a fizz-water, please?”
“Of course, angel,” Anakin said, smiling at her and then turning to Obi-Wan.
“So you both seem well,” Obi-Wan said as they walked towards the line for the bar. They came to a stop behind two young women, but before Anakin could say anything, they both overheard one of the women say Obi-Wan’s name.
“--Obi-Wan Kenobi is right there.”
The other woman snorted. “If you like gingers. No, no, Anakin Skywalker is definitely more attractive.”
Oh. It would seem this was a conversation they shouldn’t be listening to. Obi-Wan tried to step back and give the women privacy, but Anakin caught his arm and held him in place with a mischievous smile.
Anakin, Obi-Wan chided him through the Force.
Just let me hear a little more! Besides, we’re both gonna need drinks to get through the rest of this party, Anakin argued.
He couldn’t deny that logic. So with a quiet sigh, Obi-Wan stayed in place as the women kept talking.
“But Obi-Wan Kenobi is so wise and composed. I just want to ruffle his hair and provoke an argument with him,” the first woman said.
Anakin slapped a hand over his mouth, his eyes dancing with mirth. Obi-Wan rolled his eyes at him.
“Skywalker’s all tall and lean. And you know he’s got a prosthetic arm. Imagine what he can do with a hand that never gets tired,” the second woman said.
Oh. Obi-Wan looked up towards the ceiling, feeling a bit flustered by the implication. Not that it was much of an implication--it was rather clear what the woman had in mind.
Her companion certainly got her meaning from her snicker. “Yeah, that’s true,” she said.
A blessed silence fell between them and Obi-Wan tried to mentally urge Anakin to step back and give the woman space. But then the first woman continued, “But I just want to feel Kenobi’s beard against my--”
With that, Obi-Wan had reached his limit. He stepped out of the line, walking quickly away. And from his presence in the Force, Anakin was right behind them.
Padme suddenly appeared in front of them, her forehead wrinkled. “What’s wrong?”
Anakin looked at Obi-Wan, his face flushed with embarrassment. But since it had been Anakin’s idea to listen, Obi-Wan wasn’t about to help him just yet. He merely quirked an eyebrow at Anakin.
“Um . . . there were these women ahead of us in line, and they were . . .” Anakin began, making Obi-Wan want to pinch the bridge of his nose. Was Anakin really going to tell his wife the truth?
“We overheard part of a conversation we shouldn’t have,” Obi-Wan finished.
“Oh?” Padme asked, her voice filled with curiosity.
Obi-Wan exchanged looks with Anakin, who swallowed loudly before speaking. “It . . . it wasn’t an appropriate conversation.”
Now he did pinch the bridge of his nose. It was like Anakin didn’t know his wife at all.
Padme laughed a little. “Appropriate? What were they saying--whether they’d rather have you or Obi-Wan in bed?”
He felt his eyes widen slightly at Padme’s correct guess, while Anakin outright gaped at her.
Now Padme was really laughing. “Oh, Ani, really?”
“Are you saying this is a common topic of conversation?” Obi-Wan asked in shock.
“Yes,” Padme said with a grin. “Throughout the whole war, in fact.”
“And you let these women say all these things to you?” Anakin asked, putting his hands on his hips. His Force presence was overflowing with embarrassment.
She nodded, her grin firmly in place. “I had to, Ani. Not that it wasn’t embarrassing. Although sometimes I had fun with it.”
“Fun?!?” Anakin hadn’t reached that pitch since he was a teenager, Obi-Wan thought to himself in amusement--amusement to hide his own flustered feelings.
“Mmmm,” Padme said, taking Anakin’s arm and leaning against him. “Sometimes I would offer which Jedi I was . . . curious about.”
Anakin searched her face, looking worried. “Who?”
“Master Fisto,” Padme said, her face smooth and composed. “He’d be so much fun during a visit to the Lake Country. Such a good swimmer.”
Obi-Wan covered his mouth to hide his smile, while Anakin just stared at her. Then he grabbed her hand and looked to Obi-Wan. “Excuse us.”
And with that, Anakin dragged Padme off--probably to the closest utility closet, Obi-Wan guessed.
Smiling, he looked around and began mingling again. Although he certainly avoided any groups composed solely of women.
After all, he might be a Jedi--but he was still a man. And there was only so much embarrassment a man could face in one night.
End.
