I have this one leatherjacket (my dad’s old one lol, very oversized on me but hoping in a cool way) that I’ve been meaning to take the shoulder pads out bc I’ve got enough shoulder as is & fits weird with those. But guess when do I decide to do it?
A) when I have ample freetime
B) when I have a very non-negotiable important deadline in a few days that I’m already behind on

I made a purse!
Pattern: Estrella by Oro Rosa Patterns.
This was my first time working with faux leather. Specifically, I used upcycled faux leather (it used to be a chair cushion). And that made it even harder to work with: it had been stretched by usage already. I actually decided against using the most-stretched-out parts after cutting the pattern pieces and seeing how the stretches would look. So the centre panel of either face is made from new material: an embossed faux leather on one side, and a quilting cotton (treated with a water-shedding coating) on the other.
Working with faux leather is difficult! With cloth, the appearance of needle punches can be mitigated. But leather remembers, and those piercings can be very visible. Any mistakes I made and had to redo left permanent punctures in the material, which was a bit intimidating.
It has one (1) interior pocket, which is a bit difficult to photograph, but:

Some of the pattern pieces wouldn't fit on a single piece of reclaimed material, so I did some piecing, like the triangular piece here:

I also chose to use areas of the material where previous needle punctures were visible, and tried to position them where they'd be subtle but noticeable:

Finally for the handle, even though I probably had a piece that was long enough to cut a continuous strap, I wanted the upcycled nature of the bag to be visible, so I pieced the handle as well.

I learned a lot from this project, and am looking forward to making more!

my personal headcannon is that Xena sews Gabrielle her new outfits whenever she changes them up. Especially in the earlier seasons when her new clothes look like they’re made out of her old ones. Xena is canonically very good at sewing and it just makes sense to me.

I can’t wait to go to school Tuesday so I can check out the student boutique and get cloth for free because my broke ass can’t afford fabric for cosplay. I love stimulating the mutual aid “economy” (They will get shut down if we don’t use them and then the clothes that usually go to there will go in the landfill instead.)

I remember the first time I started sewing I was so scared of the needle, it had a safe guard, and it's really hard to actually hurt yourself with it
But my father (being the asshole he was) told me about one of his students, that got distracted and stabbed himself with the needle
Mind you, they were hand making LEATHER SHOES
THAT NEEDLE IS FUCKING HUGE, LIKE

And I'm there, using a sewing machine for the first time as a 6 or 7yo, and he tells me how it went straight to the other side, and that he damaged a nerve so he couldn't bend his finger right
I honestly don't know if he realizes the amounts of things he told me that just made me so scared of everything in life
Like, the time there was an earthquake (fairly small one but the courtines were moving on a first floor) when I was in his house, and when it ended, his way of "calming me down" was to immediately show me 7-8 Richter earthquakes videos, telling me "don't worry, it could have been much worse"

the skirt for my maedhros cosplay is almost done what's really delaying me is that i didn't pin down the pleats from the beginning (like i did in skirt attempt #1) and now that i need to attach the waistband it's biting me in the ass. whatever. i'm gonna work on the tabard instead and wail about it
