What Character Would You Be?
Daily writing promptIf you could be a character from a book or film, who would you be? Why?View all responses The first character that came to mind is, Russell from the movie “Up.” He always stayed by everyone’s side. He did his best to cheer everyone around him, up. He was always striving to be better. He wanted to help everyone. That movie teaches us so much about how aging is messy and…

Grow in Wisdom
In the garden of life, we sow and reap, Learning lessons, both shallow and deep. Each day a new page, a fresh chapter begun, Under the watchful eye of the rising sun. We stumble, we fall, but we rise once more, Each failure, a key to a different door. In the school of life, there's no final exam, Just an endless journey, a lifelong tram. Wisdom is not a destination, but a path, Not a result of…

This is the meaning of learning from your mistakes. Choices you make determine your future. Learn from yourself and heed your own truth and make changes. #authormarcusjking #friendship #feelings #learninglessons https://www.instagram.com/p/B5quraZhI09/?igshid=4basmmi3p9w5

New unfinished Bracelets that got "magically" lost on my way to @caszakavo Shop 🤷‍♀️ Luckily they weren't finished, cause I was waiting for logos to be done... I just wanted to show them to @ninastefe 🙃 ° Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose...but you always learn, right? 😉💪 ° Besides that I've always loved this one: "How can someone win if winning means that someone loses?" / Scatman's World by Scatman John 🎶 Makes you think, doesn't it? #loveit #music #90s ° #ninaluba #fashiondesign #fashionaccessories #lost #bracelets #lines #win #lose #learn #learninglessons https://www.instagram.com/p/BzoGBmNlnWs/?igshid=ue65ru851s0x

I have learned that, when you watch a movie or read a book that makes you emotional and nostalgic, texting them isn’t a wise option because they aren’t feeling the same way. It will just be another unwanted text from you.

Day 5 & 6
Going with the Flow 🌊
A lot of things keep randomly not quite going in our favor here, and I distinctly remember one thing my father told us before we left (aside from safety being the top priority) along the lines of: Don't stress when things don't go according to plan, just take the twists and turns as life throws them at you, and you'll find you'll probably have many more memories come out of it than you thought possible.
I'm actually rather proud of Melissa and I as we seem to be following my dad's advice better than I thought we'd be comfortable with. Melissa and I don't like things being out of our control or not go according to our plans, so the past 2 days have been both a good, but hard lesson in that.
Thankfully, we have had an amazing hotel employee helping us through the twists and turns Greece seems to like throwing us, which has helped this all seem a lot less intimidating. Melissa actually had a chance to talk with her today and found out she's going to school for a Marketing Degree. We're hoping we might be able to connect with her more, and possibly find more connections through her.
This place is a photographer's dream as well, and I'm hoping when I get home some of the photos I've taken both here and in Kosovo, will be able to make us more connections so we can fund future trips and have many more Mastermind Seminars throughout the world.
This whole trip, we've had to work on just living in the moment and not focus on getting the perfect picture at the perfect angle as well. I thought I would have more issues with that, since I'm always looking for an angle for the right picture, but surprisingly, Melissa has seemed to have more difficulty in that area. Either way, the things we're learning about each other and the memories we're creating this entire trip, are memories we will cherish forever, as every lesson we've learned, no matter how hard, is a lesson that's also helped us to think differently, and in turn, practice the things we "preached" in Kosovo.

A lot of this property is still at its pioneer stage. Covered in thorny weeds which also happen to be mostly nitrogen fixers. Random thought but perhaps this pioneer stage of painful weeds is the lands way of keeping people and animals off of it as it recovers 🤔 all I know is that nature knows way better than we do and it’s quite fun discovering the methods behind the madness. Anyways, before I run off to another thought, we decided to speed up this process by planting a few intensive garden beds throughout the property. The soil is quite compacted and since it’s not easy to bring in truck loads of mulch and compost, we decided to till it this one time just to get some air circulating in the soil. As the crops grow, they will provide ground cover that will take in carbon from the soil, provide organic material to feed the soil, as well as some tasty treats for us all to enjoy. This first plot will contain cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, kale, brussel sprouts, coriander, carrots, borage, bok choy, radishes, Romain lettuce, and sweet peas. The kids are excited although planting intensively is quite meticulous work in comparison to a mono cropped field but it should yield a much higher yield and diversity per square foot. Going to spread what’re mulch I can find over this plot while I sprout my tomatoes and peppers and prepare to get them in the ground along with everything else. ・・・ #growninhaiti #Haiti #ayiti #eachoneteachone #reforestation #agroforestry #intensivegardening #squarefootgardening #feedyoursoil #soildevelopment #growth #learninglessons #community #communitydevelopment #communitygarden #sharingiscaring #sustainablefoodsystems #foodsecurity #laboroflove https://www.instagram.com/p/CD18zLilYdx/?igshid=u5mr3dmyyjx6

This week has been .. a week. Lots of opportunities to learn lessons. Generally, they’re the kind of lessons that aren’t enjoyable in the moment. Yesterday felt like the head of the whole thing, I was spent both physically and emotionally. Today I did a couple of very slow miles on the treadmill.. by 1.57 I had to go to a full walk, because my shins were killing me. A reminder to myself that I must give myself rest days. No daily running! Grr. And, I need to add a small shout out to the couple of people who gave me the words I needed in the moments I needed them. You never know how a few kind words will help someone get through their day. Spread love. #recovery #depression #anxiety #running #learninglessons #fitmom #longweek #newday https://www.instagram.com/p/BnJe9sNhsgI/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=fqun9n3wicfz

The Asian Flu Pandemic
Whilst UK Governments scientists were initially telling us those with a pre-existing condition were more likely to die from the virus, statistics are showing us a different outcome a year into Covid-19.
Anyone can die from the virus, it’s not just the elderly, infirm, or anyone with a pre-existing condition. My thoughts now turn to the 1957 Asian Flu pandemic.
The 1957 Asian flu pandemic was first identified in East Asia in February 1957 which subsequently spread worldwide. The flu pandemic was the second biggest influenza pandemic to happen in the 20th century. It preceded the 1968 flu pandemic and followed the influenza pandemic of 1918-19.
The outbreak caused an estimated one to two million deaths worldwide. My aunt died in that pandemic. It’s hard to imagine what she must have gone through. What I know is that she’d just got married and was 6 weeks’ home when she died of Asian flu.
I would have liked to have met my aunt. Very little stories were told about her. All I know is that six weeks into her marriage, 5 years before I was born, she died of Asian Flu in the late 1950’s. We share the same middle name Estelle, and I use that as my author name.
I knew she had asthma, and that she died of Flu, but what I didn’t know until now, was that she died in the 1957 Asian Flu pandemic. She was 26 years old. Now, living through a pandemic myself, what I know has become even more important and poignant for me.
It was a last-minute decision for me to publish under my author name of ‘Ilana Estelle.’ I wish I had have known more about my aunt and her life, but I am happy we share the same middle name and that through my writing, her name lives on.
Conclusion
Unless we learn from our mistakes and take on board our lessons, future generations may struggle to live successful lives.
Whilst scientists are telling us our lifestyles are to blame for Covid-19, we need to take heed and listen. And while another pandemic may not affect us depending on our age, those not yet born, or are young enough to live through another pandemic, will be affected.
It’s time for us all to pull back on our lifestyles, rethink and change before it’s too late. We need to be more selfless, not selfish, so that we start to protect the natural world, so that we may protect ourselves.
