This is one of my most recent reads by @laekanzeakemp . I remember reading her self published books a few years ago and really enjoying them. I'm excited to see more books published by her. It was so nice to see such great Latinx representation and I do recommend this one if you're lo for that in a YA novel. Have any of you guys read this debut? If you did, what did you think? #SomewhereBetweenBitterandSweet #LaekanZeaKemp #latinx #latinxrepresentation #contemporarybook #contemporary #books #reading #bibliophile https://www.instagram.com/p/CSRxO_vrRFd/?utm_medium=tumblr

Getty Images recently launched the Nosotros Collection, an expansion of content that features 15,000 images that represent the Latinx community in the US, challenging stereotypical visualizations of Latinx in media. To ensure they produced content that accurately reflects the lives of Latinxs, Getty interviewed Hispanics all across the country. Getty’s Manager of Creative Insights stated, “Getty Images has always understood the power of imagery to incite change, and we are passionate about breaking down the stereotypes of communities who have either been erased or misrepresented for decades.” We are LIVING for it.

I finished watching @pixarcoco and cried throughout the whole movie. It touched me in so many ways that I wasn’t expecting it to. Mama Coco reminded me of my Mama Triny who passed in 2012. This movie provided so much representation that I was missing during my childhood. Thank you @pixar for this wonderful production! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 #pixarcoco #pixar #coco #movies #animatedmovie #disney #latinx #chicanx #representationmatters #latinxrepresentation #mexican #mexicanculture #diadelosmuertos #dayofthedead (at Fremont, California)

Alfonso Cuarón’s Mexican film Roma marked off many firsts when it received 10 nominations to this year’s Oscars. Not only did Gabriela Rodriguez become the first Latina to receive a nomination for Best Picture, the film also snagged the first ever nomination without box-office grosses, landing Netflix their first nomination in the category. Roma has been so successful that a 15-track project, Music Inspired by the Film ROMA. will feature original songs and convers inspired by Cuarón’s film, separate from the official soundtrack released last year. The collection of tracks was curated by Cuarón himself and it features musical heavyweights from both the English and Spanish-speaking worlds. Roma, Black Panther and Crazy Rich Asians’ commercial and critical success underscores that diverse stories sell because what is “representation” for a “niche” audience is taken as innovation by “mainstream” audiences.

Mariano Rivera, the beloved Yankee who helped lead the team to 5 World Series victories, is the first ever player unanimously voted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. ALL 425 voters had Rivera on their 2019 ballots, noting that Rivera is universally regarded as the greatest closer in the history of the sport. so it’s safe to say this Panamanian is the GOAT.

#ICYMI, Julián Castro officially announced his 2020 presidential bid. The Mexican-American is the former secretary of Housing and Urban Development under Obama and a former mayor of San Antonio. In his run for president, Castro plans to put his Mexican-American heritage front and center of his campaign. Starting off with a bang, his official announcement was accompanied with a mariachi band, a taco truck and a logo that emphasizes the accent over the “a” in his name. #DALE
