i'm pretty sure that anon meant penalties are why argentina won 🤡idk how many times this needs to be said, but you really don't need to get murdered in the box to get a pen lol. not their fault opponents didn't catch on to arg deliberately holding on to the ball in the box to draw fouls, and guess what happens when you get fouled in the box!! anyway lol if anyone still actually believes that then they didn't watch argentina's games 🤷‍♀️ because the whole team played really well the whole tournament and despite france getting 2 penalties in the final (i feel like we don't talk about that enough??? but ok) they still dominated their superteam almost the whole way through. scaloni worked miracles on argentina and i read a tactical analysis from the athletic on how they're the most tactically flexible champions we've had and it's true, he was changing formations and sometimes lineups most games to suit specific opponents and his only weakness was sometimes making subs too early. as for messi and emi (i think that's about the best awards? i'm not sure) messi is messi, and emi was phenomenal and is quite literally the main reason they won + was solid for aston villa the whole year even with a shit defence. some salty ass mfs on twt actually tried to say lloris is a better overall goalie when even with a good defence at spurs, he still messed up almost every game before his injury 😭. aaa this is a rant but we will be feasting well on all the tears tonight #trust

and you've really summed it up sis. Like people love to act dumb when it comes to penalties. All sense just RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW. Other than the Saudi and Mexico match, there is not a single match in that tournament where Argentina weren't primarily dominating.

Let's actually sum up the penalties he got in this tournament:

Saudi - pen but they ended up losing the match so no benefit

Mexico - no penalty

Poland - penalty given and saved so no benefit

Australia - no penalty

Netherlands - was already up 1-0 and Argentina were dominating the match

Croatia - by far our easiest win in the tournament, croatian players admitted that they played a bad match and that assist Messi had shows that pen/no pen, he had them on strings

France - valid pen, and france played like shit for 75 minutes so whats their point?

Had messi missed a penalty at any moment during the tournament, whether in the semi-final, or the final - they would've been on his back they way they were back in 2016 when he missed the penalty against Chile in the shootout.

They definitely weren't watching Argentina at all, truly just bitter humans.

i dont really like it when people dumb down Curly's characterization to just the guy enabling Jimmy. I get that that makes it easier to not like him, so that's why a lot of people do that, because they feel guilty about sympathizing with someone who's done smth fucked up like that, but i really don't think it's giving Curly the justice he deserves.

regardless of if you like him as a person or not, Curly is still a victim and he suffered greatly at Jimmy's hand. Just because he did something fucked up doesn't make him a 'monster' (sorry because i saw someone say that he looks like a monster post-crash and thats sticking with me because why TF are we saying disabled burn victims look like LITERAL MONSTERS- yall use some common sense I BEG)

Dumbing down characters is what fandom does best, but i think it particularly irks me in Mouthwashing because of the nature of the story. Jimmy already thinks of the rest of the crew poorly and doesn't see them for how they really are, we don't need to be doing that too.

I also feel like people don't really recognize the fact Jimmy manipulates and abuses Curly too, even before the crash. What Curly did was fucked up but for the love, don't dumb him down to just this one thing he did.

Oh I have so many thoughts on aroace Curly, I think it brings so much on the table when analyzing the game's story.

Amanormativity ties in with the reoccurring mentions of the nuclear family, from Wrong Organ making 1950s mock advert posters, to Swansea talking about how getting a wife and kids didn't bring him any fulfillment in life.

In the cake cutting nightmare sequence, where Jimmy talks with Dream Curly about the mediocre cake, Dream Curly begins to talk about how sometimes you can only get the subpar stuff in live. Sometimes he'll get promoted, buy a house, fall in love. But other times he'll just have some awful fucking cake with his friend.

I think there is that subtle implication that Jimmy does buy into Amanormativity, with him projecting his beliefs on Dream Curly that a platonic relationship is lesser then a romantic one. But we never see Curly suggesting that he wants such a thing in the pre-crash.

With Jimmy thinking that Curly has everything in life, except for the desire (although I think Jimmy would view it as Curly not having the skills for it) to get a romantic partner, he would heavily lean into getting the one thing that Curly couldn't get in life to one up him.

THATS EXACTLY WHAT IM THINKING!!! AMATONORMATIVITY BE DAMNED!!!!

Looking at Mouthwashing through an aroace lens is interesting

"Jimmy thinking that Curly has everything in life, except for the desire", well said, well said! And references to the nuclear family fit in very cleanly thematically for Mouthwashing.

Jimmy leaning into amatonormativity is a smart observation. Jim internalizes all the social norms and standards on what you have to do to have a normal and desirable life, who sees everything Curly has and what Jimmy wishes he had, and is offended that Curly isn't satisfied, that he has the "audacity" to be unhappy. Curly meanwhile only wishes for his life to be something he doesn't have to run from, because by all means, he has already reached a point where he should feel accomplished, but isn't. Curly doesn't want to be a freighter captain his whole life, he doesn't want to settle with his sustainable position, he just wants to be happy. Like Swansea who has reached the "ideal" outcome of his life, having a wife, kids and a good career, it will never feel as good as embracing all what society deems undesirable yet right for you.

Jimmy does imply to seeing himself as lesser as a friend, "fall in love" being a goal and a "cake with a friend" being something he "has to settle for", it's all in the subtleties with underlying themes of "what you're "supposed to want" by society's expectations" against "what feels right for you". Jimmy is frustrated that Curly is going to "leave the dirt behind him", when in actuality, letting the crew and him go is the last thing Curly wants. Curly wants to be with his friends, he deeply cares about his crew, and about his close friend.

Mouthwashing as a whole reads to me as platonic through and through. Swansea and Daisuke having such a meaningful familial bond, Curly and Anya being sweet, playful and caring without romance, Anya and Daisuke having something of a siblings dynamic are dear to me. Also it's really rare to get to see representations of "toxic friendship" in media. Its always toxic romance this, toxic yaoi that, toxic family there, however in reality, friendships aren't excluded from being as rotten and abusive as the others, yet they're often overlooked. Jim and Curly are especially unique in this way. It's very impressive how they managed to showcase Jimmy's mistreatment of Curly in such a platonic way (at least that how I read it). Jim too, like Curly, in general avoids hints at romance and attraction explicitly related to him during his gameplay, not with Curly, nor with Anya (dear god thanks for that at least). It's all spite, annoyance and parasitizing off of these two. (That man's dry and lowkey hates everyone and everything) No attraction attached, no desires except hoping it hurts.

Curly to me is very much aroace, or at least on the spectrum. Like, the trivia fact that one of Curly's fondest memories is that of his friends putting in effort to make a shitty awful cake, tells us all we need to know on how dear his friends are to him. Platonic relationships mean so much to Curly, even when it's Jimmy fucking Mouthwashing, the worst friend ever imaginable.

Justice League meets the Batfam, but they already knew about them because of Batman ranting about his kids.

In the comics, Batman has implemented that Nightwing should be in charge of the Justice League if something happened to him BEFORE he had adopted Dick (so, when his only legal son was Jason). When Dick is called to help, he learns that people think he's Batman's son because of how Batman speaks about him, and how he is proud of nothing in his life but the man Nightwing has become.

So, let's imagine the batfam thinking they are so secretive and mysterious, and "B, it's time for you to trust your friends and colleagues more", and going to the JL to officially present the Batfam, only for them to cut them and be "You're Batman's kids, everyone knows that. He doesn't shut up about you."

Bruce doesn’t realize he does it, btw. He didn’t clearly stated that they are his kids, that he is their dad, he just starts to talk about them and how proud he is, and how competent they are, and how much he cares about them, when the discussion seems appropriate to do so. But for the rest of the JL, Batman talks about three things: the mission, his kids, and his interests if you are close and it's useful rn (him starting to rant about dinosaurs to Hal when they face dinosaurs is cute). They probably tell new recruits "Batman may seem scary, but he is really just a protective dad. Soon enough, you will hear about his kids".

Little personal analysis of Phoenix Wright's obsessive character (+savior complex as a treat):

HOW DO PEOPLE NOT REALISE HOW FUCKED UP IN THE HEAD PHOENIX WRIGHT IS ??? His relationship with Dahlia is such a good exemple of it and yet people act as if Dahlia is the only crazy one. SHE'S NOT !! Phoenix is obsessive when he's in love, it shows with Dahlia. He believes her to be so innocent and just thinks she's pure and fragile, and people don't find it weird that he finds this attractive ??? HE STARTED DATING HER FROM DAY ONE FFS !? He just instantly obsesses over Dahlia it's crazy, and wanna know the worst part ? He does the same with Miles.

Get this, Phoenix knew him for less than a year and decided to forge his entire legal career for him. I know on surface level it might seem cute and haha gay but that's so fucking weird ?! The moment he lost Dahlia he instantly changed directions, aiming to reunite with his chilhood friend because he thought he could save him from being sad (a thing he assumed just from a journal on top of that). Phoenix had planned day 1 to be Miles's savior and he stuck with it.

It feels so weird to deeply analyse Phoenix like that because I love him, he's our beloved main character, he's funny and I love reading fluffy narumitsu fics but god he is so terribly fucked up it gets scary if you think about his savior complex too hard 😭
