It's that time again, which is fortunate because it means the last time went REALLY REALLY WELL through recovery:
Mom of the Wild is having surgery again tomorrow (Fri 6/21) to replace her OTHER knee.
The fact that she was able to get it done so soon after the last (4/3/24) is a testament to how remarkably well — and fast — she healed and the kind of progress she made in physical therapy after.
Right now for her right knee, after everything was said and done she can bend it back to I believe 124°. They aim for 120°. She's impressed every single PT she's seen. Katie the home PT told her "You're the nicest tough lady I've ever met."
We love Katie. She's going to be our home PT again for this one and we're looking forward to seeing her again.
So now it's time to get her left knee done, and she needs it BADLY because it's gotten exponentially worse in the last couple weeks and has started giving out completely here and there. I've been thankful more than once that she has a "good leg" now on her right with quite a bit of strength behind it after all of the PT.
Hopefully the recovery from this surgery will go even better because the outpatient PT has also been working on strengthening her left knee as much as possible which he said will make her recovery even faster.
We're almost to the finish line. As I told her a couple days ago: "This is the worst that you're ever going to be. From here on out it will only get BETTER."
Surgery is tomorrow at 2:45. I'll update like I did last time once I get the notification that she's in recovery.

(That is also an accurate representation of her attitude going into this one.)

Ron Irby expected the artificial knee implanted in his right leg in September 2018 would last two decades — perhaps longer.
Yet in just three years, the Optetrak implant manufactured by Exactech in Gainesville, Florida, had worn out and had to be replaced — a painful and debilitating operation.
“The surgery was a huge debt of pain paid over months,” said Irby, 71, a Gainesville resident and retired medical technologist with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Irby is one of more than 1,100 patients suing Exactech after it began recalling artificial knees, hips, and ankles, starting in August 2021. A letter Exactech sent to surgeons blamed a packaging defect dating back as far as 2004 for possibly causing the plastic in a knee component to wear out prematurely in about 140,000 implants.
Many patients argue in hundreds of lawsuits that they have suffered through, or could soon face, challenging and risky operations to replace defective implants that failed.
Although Exactech does not offer an express warranty on its products, the company stresses the durability of its implants in advertising, even suggesting they likely will outlive their human recipients. (Read more at link)

If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for.

Mom of the Wild is having surgery tomorrow.
As the title says, Mom of the Wild is having surgery tomorrow, 4/3, at 3:15pm. She's having a total joint replacement in her right knee, and once that's healed she'll have the same done to her left. We're calling them her "new bionic knees."
Tumblr media
Any and all positive energy, prayers, well-wishes, or whatever else you believe in would be lovely.
She needs this surgery very, VERY badly. Her knees have impacted her ability to function day to day and has made going pretty much anywhere a task of quite a bit of effort and planning because her mobility has been so compromised. She can't stand for long, and walking is extremely painful. She's been using a cane for the last two or three years now.
There's literally nothing left as far as cushioning in her knees, and when she walks you can audibly hear the bones creaking and grinding against each other. It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end because it sounds so terrible. She's been in a lot of pain that I'm pretty sure she's been downplaying because that's just the way she is, so I'm really glad she's finally starting down the road of fixing things.
To be completely selfish for a moment, I want my mom back.
She's in good spirits about it all because she's ready to get her mobility back and do all of the work required in PT to do so. Her ortho, Dr. Lowry, has also said that based on her authorization testing and pre-op clearance she's going to do great in surgery and he expects her to have an excellent outcome, which gives me a lot of confidence.
So... yeah. As I said, any and all prayers or positive energy that any of you can spare tomorrow would be greatly appreciated. I'll be giving updates as needed. 💜

At What Stage of Knee Pain Does Patient Require Knee Replacement?
Tumblr media
In many patients with osteoarthritis and other conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, bone deformities, injuries etc., there is extreme knee pain, knee swelling, and the inability of movement at the knee joint and knee ligaments.
WHAT IS KNEE ARTHROPLASTY?
Arthroplasty involves replacement of a weight-bearing portion of the knee joint by an artificial structure. In general, the surgery consists of replacing the diseased or damaged joint surfaces of the knee with metal and plastic components shaped to allow continued motion of the knee. Knee replacement surgery can be performed as a partial or a total knee replacement. Today, knee replacement surgery is one of the most common bone surgeries performed around the world.

What Is a Bone Fracture? Symptoms, Causes, Types, Diagnosis, and Treatment
Tumblr media
A bone fracture is a medical condition where there is a break or crack in the bone. This can happen due to various reasons, from high-impact injuries to underlying medical conditions that weaken bones. At Riddhi Clinic, we provide expert care to diagnose, treat, and support recovery from bone fractures, ensuring that patients regain their strength and mobility.
What Causes a Bone Fracture?
Bone fractures can occur for multiple reasons, such as:
Traumatic Injuries:
Accidents, falls, or sports injuries often result in fractures due to the sudden force applied to the bone.
Osteoporosis:
This condition weakens bones, making them brittle and more prone to fractures, especially in older adults.
Overuse or Repetitive Stress:
Stress fractures develop due to repetitive motion or overuse, common in athletes and labor-intensive professions.
Pathological Conditions:
Medical conditions such as bone cancer or infections can weaken the bone structure, increasing the risk of fractures.
Nutritional Deficiencies:
Insufficient calcium and vitamin D intake can compromise bone density, making bones more fragile.
Symptoms of a Bone Fracture
Recognizing the symptoms of a bone fracture is crucial for timely medical intervention. Common signs include:
Severe pain at the injury site.
Swelling, bruising, or tenderness around the affected area.
Difficulty moving the injured limb.
A visible deformity or abnormal alignment of the bone.
Hearing a snapping or cracking sound during the injury.
Types of Bone Fractures
Bone fractures are classified based on their severity and characteristics:
Closed Fracture: The bone breaks but does not pierce the skin.
Open (Compound) Fracture: The bone protrudes through the skin, increasing the risk of infection.
Comminuted Fracture: The bone shatters into multiple fragments.
Greenstick Fracture: A partial break where the bone bends, commonly seen in children.
Hairline Fracture: A small crack in the bone, often caused by repetitive stress.
Transverse Fracture: A horizontal break across the bone.
Oblique Fracture: A diagonal break across the bone.
Diagnosis at Riddhi Clinic
At Riddhi Clinic, accurate diagnosis is the first step in treating a bone fracture. We use the following methods:
Physical Examination:
Checking for swelling, tenderness, and deformity.
Imaging Tests:
X-rays are the most common diagnostic tool to determine the type and severity of a fracture.
In complex cases, CT scans or MRIs may be recommended.
Treatment Options
Treatment for bone fractures depends on the type and location of the break. At Riddhi Clinic, we offer:
Non-Surgical Treatments:
Immobilization: Casts, splints, or braces are used to keep the bone in place while it heals.
Pain Management: Medications to alleviate pain and inflammation.
Rehabilitation: Physical therapy to restore strength and flexibility after the bone has healed.
Surgical Treatments:
In severe cases, surgery may be required to realign and stabilize the bone using screws, plates, or rods.
How to Prevent Bone Fractures
Prevention is always better than cure. Here are some tips to reduce the risk of fractures:
Maintain a healthy diet rich in calcium and vitamin D to strengthen bones.
Engage in regular weight-bearing exercises to improve bone density.
Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.
Wear protective gear during sports and high-risk activities.
Regular check-ups to monitor bone health, especially for individuals at risk of osteoporosis.

At Riddhi Clinic, we understand the physical and emotional impact of a bone fracture. Dr. Snehal Hedgire and our team of orthopedic specialists are dedicated to providing personalized care, advanced treatments, and comprehensive rehabilitation plans to ensure a smooth recovery for every patient.
