[JACK IN THE RADIO @ 2023.10.21]
Miku participated in the JACK IN THE RADIO program on Tokyo FM radio. The program is presented by Tatsuro, lead singer of the band MUCC. An excerpt from the interview transcript was published in the section dedicated to the program on the radio website, please check it out!
********************************************
An Cafe released, for the first time in 5 years, the drama CD “Bandoru! -Idol Band Shiyoze-’ on October 25th, which includes the new song “Fly Again”!Tatsuro: This “Fly Again” is the highest pitched song so far.
Miku: That's right. I fell in love with a certain visual kei band during the coronavirus pandemic.
Tatsuro: Don't say “a certain band” (laughs)!
Miku: (laughs). It's Kizu.
Tatsuro: Ahh!
Miku: I've also been seeing things like the collaboration/feat that the band Kizu did with you ("Ichigeki", Kizu's 4th anniversary project) and, like that, LiME's (Kizu's vocalist) tone is super sharp, right? ?
Tatsuro: Yes it is!
Miku: So, I thought “can I do it too!?”. So I wanted to try something similar and also increased the tone.
Tatsuro: Wow! And it worked?
Miku: It worked. I went to karaoke and sang a lot of Kizu songs. So I thought “this is going to be great!”.
Tatsuro: Really!? When LiME told me “I have this project (Ichigeki), wouldn't you like to participate?”, I said “look, since Kizu's tones are all very high, I don't mind doing it, but I don't know if there is some song that I can sing, then let me sing a song whose tone is low. I said “it would be better if you let me choose between one of them”. So I chose one (among those with a low tone) and sang it (laughs).
Miku: But it was really good!
Tatsuro: Then I thought “I think this song will go well” and he let me sing this one.
Miku: Hmm… And it was definitely your style. When you got into the second verse, LiME said something like, “Aren't you attracted to Tatsuro's singing? (laughter).
Tatsuro: ahahahah(laughing a lot)!
Miku: While I was listening to it I thought “somehow this song is just like Tatsurou, right!? " (laughter).
Tatsuro: But it really was a good project, right? (laughter).
Miku: It was really good!
Tatsuro: So, (the highest note you sang in the new song) was a tone you could achieve before, but never used in An Cafe?
Miku: No, my high pitch increased during the pandemic.
Tatsuro: What do you mean??
Miku: I was frustrated, I went to karaoke all the time. At that time, I sang several songs by female artists, so by doing that, I naturally became able to do that.
Tatsuro: Wow…! But isn't the feeling of vocalization in a karaoke environment and a concert different?
Miku: It certainly is different.
Tatsuro: This trick (of singing karaoke) must have stuck with me somewhere, right?

Is it just me or the given fandom doesn't deserve ritsuka uenoyama AT ALL
#uenoyama deserves better#yes i get it mafuyu misses yuki and its hard for him to move on#but the fact how majority of the fans often ignore ue's existence#and constantly discrediting his efforts for mafuyu makes me mad#that also goes to the same to the rest of the given charas and kizu themselves#his band members his friends#and possibly HIS OWN BOYFRIEND OMG#like damn his own supposed character arc has been ignored in favoritism of yuki#and even at the 10th mix like#given anime#given manga#uenoyama ritsuka

Not my kind of sound, but artisty? 10/10 Clean but artistic horror, presence yup 10 and that guitar screech moment *chef's kiss*. They sound promising. Also the vocalist looks cute. ex. Avilis...I might have or have not checked his work before. Anyway, the mv and performance drew my attention, which is rare for me nowadays, so I felt like sharing
#sugar#Youtube#some people call them kizu junior perhaps some members were roadies#generally don't do that people#just because sb might be inspired by another artist doesn't mean they don't want to present something of their own too#and constantly comparing bands in their face is low

kizu natsuki naming her four main characters with the kanji from the four seasons. akihiko with aki 秋 (autumn), haruki with haru 春(spring), ritsuka with ka 夏 (summer), mafuyu with fuyu 冬 (winter) then makes major events happen in the season connected to the character like yuki's death in winter, mafuyu falling in love with ritsuka in summer, akihiko confessing to haruki and them getting together in spring, akihiko leaving the basement and breaking up with ugetsu in autumn, haruki meeting akihiko for the first time in autumn.
not to mention how she emphasizes it.
yuki's death in winter:
mafuyu's first performance with the band and singing fuyu no hanashi as well as mafuyu admitting to hiiragi there's someone he likes (ritsuka) in summer
haruki meeting akihiko in fall and started to grow his hair from then on
fall season and akihiko leaving the basement and breaking up with ugetsu (i love how kizu really said "there was no going back")
akihiko confessed to haruki and they got together in spring

Given - There's No Going Back and It's Going to be Okay
I finished the last arc of Natsuki Kizu's given and it's a testament on trying to move forward despite the anxieties you may face.
With Given potentially becoming a professional band, Ritsuka Uenoyama decides to help out a rival band called syh, led by Hiragi Kashima, as the latter wanted to perform a song that Mafuyu Sato's ex-boyfriend, Yuki Yoshida, wanted to do. Tension arises between Mafuyu and Uenoyama as both appear to be going in totally different directions, music-wise. Mafuyu appears to lose his voice, but Uenoyama invites him to a concert that syh is peforming at. Uenoyama is determined to channel what Yuki wanted to play before he died. Mafuyu is hesitant in attending the concert because he feels that things will change so much and relationships could be shattered.
He tells a now-rejuvenated Ugetsu Murata, who has become a better person after finally breaking up with Akihiko Kaji,
"I'm afraid we'll never be able to go back. When he talked to me about actually debuting, I was actually really, really happy. But if I choose music, I know I won't be able to turn my back on it again. Even if that means sacrificing love. And if I don't choose music, I know, no matter what, that I won't be able to face him exposed without it. I can see us breaking up either way. If I go to the concert now and listen to the music, I'll decide to either abandon music or our relationship. I know it'll drive me to a permanent decision.
Just like you had to choose between music and Kaji."
Ugetsu replies.
"If that's the issue, then you can't go back either way. Regardless of what you choose or don't choose, everything is going to change. Even this moment right now. There's no going back the way you came. Besides, choosing to stand in the same place is draining too.
So anyway, what I recommend is to go as far as you can!"
While Mafuyu continues to hesitate, Ugetsu goes on to say.
"Also Mafuyu, haven't you forgotten about his feelings? Before you go deciding everything on our own, maybe you should hear what he has to say.
But...you've given this a lot of thought on your own, Mafuyu. And that's pretty damn amazing."
Once at the concert, Mafuyu becomes scared, but once he sees that Uenoyama perform the song that Yuki helped wrote, he finally admits that he wants to sing and still be in love. Mafuyu didn't care anymore. With music, Mafuyu can always find a way to ease his grief and anxiety.
I know people talk about the point of no return when it comes to starting a relationship, but relationships often change drastically. I love the display of anxiety portrayed by Mafuyu. The person dealing with it often believes they're the only one who has to deal with it themselves. They don't try to talk to a supportive partner/friend about it because they're afraid of being criticized. They're not sure that they understand their concerns.
You never know until you ask. But the asking is always the hardest part. And the future is always scary.
But recently, I wonder how scary will the future actually be. Sometimes, people do say some outlandish things about how bad things can get. Yeah, it will be bad. And I believe that people are more resilient with the help of those around them. Just like Uenoyama being there for Mafuyu. Reading the final arc of given makes me realize how much people can be inspired to take on anything when people come together to do activities like create music.
We need those types of communal activities in a world that wants to devalue art and portray people as entirely cruel. Communal activities heal so much pain. Let the love for music remain, right?
What should be given is how loosely tied together we are all. We're all living with fears and anxieties. And we deserve to be given chances to hear compassionate words that recognize our innermost vulnerability and propel us to move forward with joy and no regret.
Change is inevitable, but suffering shouldn't be a given.
Also, what an incredible manga. given is such a wonderful series. I highly recommend reading all 9 volumes.

NEW OFFICIAL ART ALERT
I’d like to think that they all planned to be in neutrals for a photoshoot then ritsuka just about had it with Hiiragi because he came in pastel blue (the calico cat wants to stand out) only for him to then give Hiiragi a free pass seeing that he is just wearing both of the bands’ merch for extra promo 😂😂😂 Ritsu is absolutely thinking “Hiiragi don’t ruin the fucking photo” and there is our cat boi being cheeky with a little RAWR 🐯 Shizu’s and Mafuyu’s little smile like “ah yes we’ve had to deal with years of this behaviour”
It’s canon in my head that Take-chan is just relieved that they are all acting natural and not pissing themselves laughing like their first shoot
This is the design of the shirt Hiiragi is wearing from a previous Kizu official art release

It's not DIR EN GREY related, but do you have music recommendations for other Japanese bands? My problem with new bands is the anime-ish vibe I get from music, even "metal" or vkei ones (Don't know how to describe it better). I'd be eager to know if you or your followers can recommend any. Thanks!
Eh I literally tolerate only Dir en grey and sukekiyo's full discography. I gave other bands a try but I often find them very boring...
I purchased one album from The GazettE and Maximum The Hormone, if that counts?
Other than that, here are other bands that a portion of Dir en grey fans also like: lynch., l'Arc-en-Ciel, Mucc, Kizu, Mucc, Madmans Esprit (but South Korean), ling toshite sigure...
And of course, give a chance to Kyo's third band, Petit Brabancon.

Ten BL titles to make you cry
Special thanks to @ghaniblue who inspired this reclist!
If you’re like me and enjoy your BL occasionally sprinkled with trauma & heartbreak, I got you some good food. As you can probably tell, these BL stories are not for the faint of heart so make sure to check the tags before jumping in. Apart from Momentum - which compiles both happy and sad shorts - these are really tough reads that tackle heavy themes such as depression, prostitution, sexual and psychological abuse, addiction and the likes. Some of these are just a series of unfortunate and painful events, really. But I promise that all the suffering comes with moving love stories about healing, endurance, redemption and hope; so if you enjoy complex characters, complicated relationships, amazing world building and compelling plots, you can’t go wrong with these. Completed works are marked with an *. Stay safe and enjoy!
*Dark Heaven by Juns
Conor, a Korean-American, lives in a city where same-sex marriage has been legalized, but where racist and homophobic hate crimes are still frequent. He joins a band with Simon and the two go on to create their own “dark heaven” in an abandoned church. Feelings develop between the pair, but light cannot dwell with dark, and their time together will soon come to an end.
*December Rain by Kimon
Fresh out of the army, Suchae decides to take some time off and travel around the country by himself. On the first day of his trip, he spots a guy who looks totally his type at a rundown bus terminal. Despite the possibility of him being a creep, Suchae is drawn to the mysterious stranger. Cw: tragedy
Given by Kizu Natsuki
The series follows a group of four students in an amateur rock band, and the dual romantic relationships that form among them: between electric guitarist Ritsuka Uenoyama and vocalist Mafuyu Satō, and between bassist Haruki Nakayama and drummer Akihiko Kaji.
Missing Love by In hyerin
While celebrating his engagement at a reunion, Lim Wooyeon encounters Lee Geom, who has gone missing for eight years. In a dark alley, Lee Geom, who disappeared after suddenly kissing him, awakens the regret buried in his heart.
*Momentum by Park ji-yeon
“Momentum” is a series of beautifully drawn vignettes that glimpse into the life-altering moments of several couples as they fall in and out of love. This BL features a series of characters learning how to love, understand, and forgive one another – and in some cases, the world – at different moments in their lives.
*Ouroboros by Songhyel
Woo Hyung’s life has hit rock bottom. He’s traumatized after several days of being imprisoned and abused by his brother-in-law, an event that eventually left him both wifeless and jobless. His only way of coping is sex, and two very different men who can provide exactly that show up in his life.
*Pearl Boy by Zoy, Inking
Dooshik is in a bind. After making off with the takings from the gay bar where he worked, he seeks refuge in a small, coastal town. As his funds dwindle, he desperately needs a way to make ends meet.
Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai by Yoneda Kou
Yakuza Yashiro who only ever loved Kageyama, meets his new bodyguard, Doumeki Chikara. The masochistic, lewd and beautiful Yashiro and his silent, clumsy, impotent subordinate, Doumeki. This is the story of a man who has never known happiness and a man who is reborn by getting to know him.
*Stigma by Marloong
In the dark alleys of the city, there's no hope for trash like Sehyun. Having sex with strangers in the cramped stall behind a bar is just a typical Thursday night. But after a chance encounter with the brash and violent Boris, he begins to dream of living a normal life and putting an end to his restless nights.
Under the Plum Blossom Tree by Bori, Baekha
As the son of a prestigious political figure in Joseon, Hajin has only ever been interested in studying to become like his father. That is, until he meets Kim Namwoo, a young man who takes on various odd jobs as he struggles to pass his exams. As they overcome hardships together and learn more about each other's history, they soon realize that their lives are intertwined in more ways than they thought.

Im going after kizu if they wont give uenoyama a character arc istg
me too, I have been asking her for ueno's arc since the ending 😭 but she just ignores everyone who asks her about him and only replies to mafuyuki/syh content as always, she really doesn't care about uenoyama bc she is always ignoring everything that has to do with him and it seems the new chapter isn't even about him but I'm hoping it does, I really want ueno to has his deseved arc without yuki or mafuyu taking the spotlight from him or kizu dismissing him as a character.
Also I don't want his arc to center about syh, actually I want him to leave that band, or they have to change their name because it's been 10 years since he is playing support, and that man is dead, so they need to change their name because uenoyama is playing and not yuki. I will absolutely love it if he leaves them and becomes a famous guitarist, he is a prodigy after all, I want kizu to expand that storyline more.

I finally understood what these two covers back to back actually mean and I'm sorry for myself that it took me so long to realise this. 😦
The cover for Chapter/Code 3
The cover for Chapter/Code 4
These two covers always made me feel a bit uneasy since the cover for 'code 4' is self explanatory and gives us an easy understanding of how Akihiko and Ritsuka's relationship actually is but the cover for 'code 3' seems sus. I could never fully grasp what it's meant to suggest about Haruki and Mafuyu's relationship and until I understand the full meaning of things I can't stop thinking about them. So I had been brainstorming.
Let's first see what 'code 4' cover conveys. It's Akihiko carrying a box with ease (using one hand even help—) and also at the same time providing Ritsuka support (literally and metaphorically). Like, he is letting Ritsuka lean on him and talking to whoever is teasing him.
We know Ritsuka follows Akihiko to his work places since he "wanna be built like Kaji!" but this cover shows their chemistry fully. How Akihiko's style of helping is hands on.
Kizu used their workplace chemistry and how they work to show how their whole relationship works.
Now compared to this, since 'code 3' cover features the other two members of 'given', thematically speaking, it should also show their chemistry based on their work related relationship. And guess what, IT DOES!
First of all, I should've put more thoughts into them both holding job recruitment magazines (or whatever they're called).
This scenario indeed is job related. As in Mafuyu trying to find a job. But how does Haruki factor into it?
Remember in 'code 3' it was Haruki who suggested that Mafuyu gets a job.
And then in 'code 4', he was the ONLY one who knew about Mafuyu having an interview for the job.
(Then the conversation didn't focus on it and went to Ritsuka NOT knowing Mafuyu's email instead.)
But see the questions that arise and aren't answered clearly are the questions you should ponder about in given.
Haruki knew about Mafuyu's job interview because he was the one who recc'ed Mafuyu to the workplace.
Haruki likes to stay low-key and he isn't exactly a hands on kind of person. But he helps his bandmates with everything in his power while himself staying in the shadows. And he does that while taking their individual characters and styles and limits into consideration. Which is why we see him thoughtful and assessing Mafuyu here, while holding the magazine. Which job would be the best fit for Mafuyu? A kid who struggles with expressing himself?
And he finds the answer and he helps Mafuyu after thinking things through.
Akihiko's and Haruki's styles are totally different, and you could even say opposite of each other.
But yeah they are always there to help the two kids in their band and that's what these two covers are about.
