The Western arrogance, stubbornness and sheer apathy following the brutal Russian attack on a children's hospital in Kiev is unbearable. This week NATO turns 75 years old, and from today the heads of state and government are meeting in Washington DC. The moral bankruptcy of the military alliance has probably never been closer than it is now. When the White House was asked on Monday whether Ukraine could now use Western weapons to attack all military bases in Russia in light of Russian missiles fired at a children's hospital, the president's spokesman replied that Joe Biden's position had not changed. This means that Western weapons may only be used near the Russian-Ukrainian border. From all other locations, the Russian army can fire as many rockets at children as it wants without running any real risk of the military bases being destroyed. From Germany, there was a short tweet on X from Chancellor Olaf Scholz about the attack in Kyiv: "Germany stands unwaveringly by the side of the Ukrainian people. Especially in these difficult hours." It couldn't be more of a cliché. And in the end it means: no new weapons, no Taurus, nothing. If even the attack on children with cancer doesn't change anything, what should Putin be afraid of? The West keeps warning of escalation, while Putin continues to escalate. Our weakness is his strength. The German debate alone is so far removed from reality that it is often hard to believe. At the end of May, SPD General Secretary Kevin Kühnert said of the use of Western weapons in Russia: “Just imagine if such a weapon accidentally hit a civilian infrastructure (in Russia)!” Yes, just imagine, Mr Kühnert! In Ukraine you don't have to imagine it, it happens every day. These and other statements should be shown to the Ukrainian mothers whose children were bombed in Kiev. Because it is this "strategy" of Western politicians that is partly responsible for Russia being able to bomb Ukrainian children's hospitals in the first place. To this day, Ukraine is denied the means to defend itself against Russian war crimes. The supposed fear that the West would cross Putin's "red lines" or "escalate" led to this war - and to this day leads to Russia being able to commit war crimes against the Ukrainian people with almost complete impunity. Meanwhile, Western politicians are resorting to diversionary tactics and are all attacking Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Orban has never made a secret of his position, so his attempt to talk to Putin is not surprising. All politicians who are upset about Orban's trip to Moscow and the talks with Putin must face an uncomfortable question: Are they prepared to supply enough weapons to enable Ukraine not only to defend itself but also to recapture territory? There are only two ways to end this war: either Putin will be pushed back with Western help so that Ukraine will win, or there will be talks that will ultimately be conducted according to Vladimir Putin's rules.

Multiple palestinian, jewish, german and international leftist organisations, among them members of the BDS movement and Jewish Voice for a Just Peace, have been organising an event for the discussion and education on matters of palestinian liberation and human rights under the title 'Palestine Congress'.
German politicians and media have been repeatedly calling this event things like "terror event" or "event to spread 'imported antisemitism'" (a racist term common in the current german discussion referring to the idea that antisemitism in germany stems from and is being spread by immigrants and not from ethnically german citizens) and have been calling for a boycott and ban of the event and repercussions against its participants, and have already enacted repercussions against jewish organisations like Jewish Voice in the name of supposedly 'fighting antisemitism' , an argument the german government and media keep bringing up as a moral pretense to justify their continued support of Israel as their second biggest supplier of weapons, and which in the past months and years has lead to the arrests of many protestors, a very large part of them jewish.
"Broad resistance against 'Palestine Congress'"
A broad alliance [of people] from politics and civil society has called for a protest against the 'Palestine Congress' that is supposed to happen in Berlin at the end of the week.
"Berlin must not become the center of terror glorification", emphasized the alliance and explicitly referred to an appeal by the youth organisations of the political parties Grüne [greens/progressives], SPD [social democrats], FDP [liberals] and CDU [conservatives] as well as the youth forum of the German-Israeli-Society (DIG) and the Jewish Student Union Germany.
Famous supporters of the alliance are among others the parliament members Alexander Throm (CDU), Wolfgang Kubicki (FDP), Kevin Kühnert (SPD), Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann (FDP) and the former Berlin senator of culture Klaus Lederer (Linke [the left]).
This sentiment and call for protest was shared by the president of the Central Council of Jewish People in Germany who was quoted on the organisation's twitter account:
" Dr. Schuster regarding the planned Palestine Congress in Berlin: 'This event is a parade of anti-zionism and very certainly will not find any answers for the suffering of the civilian population in Gaza. On the contrary: Those who disregard the terror of Hamas and with it also the murderous strategy of the organisation against its own civilian population discredit themselves."
This of course is referring to the popular (in german media and politics) talking point that the deaths and otherwise suffering of civilians in Gaza was not caused by Israel but by palestinians themselves, specifically this argument states that Israel is only defending itself and is intentionally being tricked or forced into killing and starving civilians and breaking human rights conventions by Hamas as some sort of palestinian strategy to discredit the israeli government and that it is not doing this out of its own volition, and that the Gazan civilian populace acts as 'shields' for Hamas that Israel is forced to attack against its will for the sake of self defence.
German media and politicians love calling Israel the victim and treating palestinians as both the perpetrators and collateral damage , at most offering a fake 'oh the situation for the civilians is not good' while cutting off aid to Palestine and increasing weapons sales to Israel.
Of note for this particular situation:
The Palestine Congress is organised by multiple palestinian, jewish, german and international leftist organisations, among them also the jewish organisation Jewish Voice for a Just Peace.
Just recently a german state bank had frozen the organisation's bank account, thus freezing thousands of euros the organisation had meant to use as funding for the Congress. The bank also had demanded a detailed list of all of the organisation's members, including data such as their names and home adresses.
"The repression of the german state against the Palestine solidarity movement are escalating daily, they range from prohibition of demonstrations to police raids, and now the bank account of a jewish organisation was frozen in the name of fighting antisemitism - by the Berlin Sparkasse, a financial institution under public law." , said Wieland Hoban, chairperson of 'Jewish Voice' to jW on wednesday.
The unconditional support of Israel, that may be sold as a moral imperative but that serves real political purposes, leads to a 'dehumanisation of palestinians' and a declaration of war against everyone who calls for equality and freedom for them. "Who thinks they're ensuring jewish safety by doing this is gravely mistaken." so Hoban."

Of all the parties represented in the German parliament the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) uses the youth social media platform TikTok the most, according to a study published Tuesday.
"We are observing masses of openly right-wing extremist symbols and codes on TikTok," said Deborah Schnabel, the director of the Anne Frank Educational Center, which conducted the analysis.
"Time and again, accounts from the AfD or from the party's environment are involved" in such content, Schnabel said.
AfD party leader Alice Weidel is one of the top five political influencers on TikTok, the study noted. AfD politician Ulrich Siegmund of the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt is in the first place with more 400,000 followers.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's account has around 260,000 followers, and Robert Habeck's, the vice chancellor, has less than 30,000.
'Parallel universe'
The authors of the 62-page study warned that AfD politicians and right-wing extremists use the platform as a "parallel universe" to spread their ideology and garner support from young people.
"On TikTok, the AfD presents itself as a caretaker and champion of young people — democratic parties have not yet found any good answers to this," said Schnabel.
For example, Weidel is often shown on TikTok as spontaneous and funny, promoting a different image than that portrayed in traditional media, the authors said.
A major poll published in April showed that the AfD was the favorite party among young people aged 14 to 29, with a projected 22% of the vote — double its score just a year ago.

'Weak performance' from other parties
Schnabel noted that AfD member of parliament Sebastian Münzenmaier from Mainz, for example, has almost 80,000 followers on the platform, while the center-left Social Democrats' (SPD) secretary-general, Kevin Kühnert, has around 11,000.
While many politicians and government figures have TikTok accounts, Schnabel said they must rethink their communication strategies, noting their "weak performance."
Putting explanatory videos and educational content on Tiktok is not enough, she said, adding, "Young people also want to be respected in their aesthetic attitudes and addressed on an emotional level."
Schnabel called for media skills and political education to be given a higher priority in schools.
