"show me how fast you can go"
when he drives a sports car with a horsepower of 330 mph, sleek black with heavily tinted windows and a retractable roof. using it to his advantage to flirt with you not knowing you owned a drive yourself, his doing little to no effect to you. He'll pass you by a road and pulls his window down with a tut, "hey, doll. wanna hop in?" but his feeble attempt to bag a date goes to slump when you take a weird look at him and click on your own keys only for a kawasaki ninja to dink its light, a shit eating grin gracing your features when you watch his face churn in surprise. "why dont we go for a drive instead? show me how fast that four wheels can go" maybe he didnt bag a date with his flirting skills, but surely the date is still an open valley.

Otaku Souken interview part 1 -What did Scriptwriter Jukki Hanada want to convey with 『Girls Band Cry』? We talk at length about characterization and behind-the-scenes production.
Tumblr media
(this article was published by Otaku Souken on August 2nd)
Airing in April 2024, the TV Anime 『Girls Band Cry』 has exploded in record-breaking popularity. An original series by Toei Animation that's been drawing attention from their combination of fully 3DCG animation, to create a smooth lively motion and a non-stop roller coaster of a story. Even now after one month since it has ended, there are many fans still reeling from "post girls band cry depression".
And so this time, we are publishing this special feature on TV anime 『Girls Band Cry』. We interview the production staff and cast members at length about what they feel towards this series and the unknown behind the scenes of this production. This feature will be split into 3 parts as we dive deep with plenty of questions to ask, so please look forward to it.
In part 1 of this feature, we talk with the scriptwriter in charge, Mr.Jukki Hanada. From 「K-ON!」 to 「Love Live!」, he has penned and worked on multiple popular series. Continuing on his trend of writing youth stories. What did Mr.Hanada want to convey with 『Girls Band Cry』? How did he create these fascinating characters? By reading this feature, there's no doubt you'll get more excited about this series!

A story about learning 「This world can't be easily divided into black and white」
――First off, you have joined this project as the main writer/series composition of the story. I like to ask, how you came to be in charge of this role. Hanada: At first there was a pitch from Hiramaya about creating a music-centric story. Personally, I've been writing about idol stories for years. So this time I wanted to make it about a band. I've always been a big fan of old-school Japanese rock. And so I suggested 「If we're making it about music, let's turn it into a band」.
――What about the decision to centre around an all-girls band? Hanada: You know, I also wanted to write a story about boys (laughs). Hirayama (Editor's note: he is the main producer of this project), director Sakai and I all worked on 「Love Live! Sunshine!!」 together before. And so we went with a girl's band. Personally, I'm more used to writing about female characters after all…
――The setting of this story is based around the city of Kawasaki, is there a reason why? Hanada: When we were location scouting, I found that city to be extremely pleasant. It was easy to visualize the characters living in such a place. There's also the live house CLUB CITTA’. This city has a high affinity for bands, so it is easy to set the story up here.
――Onwards, I would like to ask more about the characters. First off regarding the main character Iseri Nina. I believe you have also spoken about it on your social media but, she's quite a sharp-tongued character who stands out huh. Hanada: At first the image I created for her is a bit more reserved. But once we started to develop her backstory and reason for coming to Tokyo, I thought 「Ah well, she's pretty grumpy now」
――So while planning out this script, things were constantly changing, right? Hanada: Most of the time when it comes to original series, that's how we slowly solidify the script. With Nina, she has developed into quite a pain in the ass for us. By episode 1 she was still alright. But by episode 2 when she first met Subaru. She gets easily depressed and instantly leaves to go back home. Slowly but surely all the anger and rage inside her began to surface. That's the kind of character she became (laughs)
Tumblr media
――Whether it is towards herself or others, I get the impression that her anger comes off really strong. Hanada: She came to Tokyo after being bullied. As such she has a binary view that everyone is either an enemy or ally, a good person or a bad person. But that isn't limited to just Nina, I believe it is a common feeling when one is still young and naive. However, this world can't be easily divided into black and white. The concept of the story is Nina learning this lesson. And so we thought this story should start with her being on edge to some extent. But she ended up being way more grumpy than expected (laughs).
――Speaking of things can't be easily divided into black and white, I feel like representing that point is the character Kawaragi Momoka.
Hanada: Both Nina who came to Tokyo carrying all that anger, and Momoka who is pursuing a music career in a band, are in a way bonded by this mutual 「unfiltered earnesty」. However, Momoka is a character who has experienced first-hand how reality is not so black and white. Especially towards the start of the story, Nina looks up to Momoka but feels 「Why are adults always so gloomy with pent-up feelings」. For Nina, having this gloom is what makes someone not a good adult. In other words, this is someone who should be a baddie and her enemy. But because she admires Momoka, she can't easily label her as such. At first, her image of Momoka is someone who shines brightly. But Nina learns that Momoka drinks and rambles while drunk. She even pukes inside Nina's toilet (laughs). But, it's not like Nina hates that part of her. So Nina starts to change how she looks at things. But on the other hand, because of Nina's personality, she can't quite accept that part of Momoka. That's why she keeps pressing on Momoka 「Please shine like you once were!」
Tumblr media
――Thinking only in terms of Enemies and Allies, she struggles to categorize her as an ally right. Hanada: She's probably not that grumpy when she's still in Kumamoto and might have accepted Momoka for what she is now. But once she came to Tokyo alone, there was no longer a reason to hold back. There is no point in coming to Tokyo in the first place if she still has to hold back her feelings.
――And so comes Awa Subaru and her role as a dampener between these two's relationship. Hanada: That's right. Nina and Momoka are both very awkward around each other. So in a sense, we thought it was important to add a balancer who is skilled at navigating social situations. But it won't be interesting if that's all she is. So we explored how Subaru came to be such a character by looking at her relationship with her Grandma. She is the complete opposite of Nina. So long as she puts on a smile in front of people, she thinks it's fine to delay all her problems that need to be answered. That's why for Nina, seeing such a liar first-hand pisses her off the most.
――But even so, they managed to build a very close relationship with each other thanks to how open-minded Subaru was. Hanada: But, Subaru hates the part of her personality of putting on airs and delaying important things. That's why she respects and admires how straightforward Nina is.
Tumblr media
Page 2
On Rupa and Tomo's relationship, there's plenty of room to expand. The dynamics of the 5 main casts are 「Like a Family」
――From there, Ebizuka Tomo and Rupa are added. First off, I like to ask about Tomo's character setting. Hanada: She's like an extreme version of Nina. She's a character who had to start living by herself at a young age. She puts on an even harder shell than Nina and would not let anyone get close to her. After setting up the shin-kawasaki trio, I was thinking about what should we do for the remaining 2 characters. So how about making one character who is even harder to approach than Nina. Tomo draws out this side of her, like a catalyst to easily get a chemical reaction going.
――I see, so in this setting, she's a character who amplifies this part of Nina who hates adults. Hanada: In fact, I even wrote an episode halfway through focusing on Tomo. But Nina was more of a pain in the ass than expected, so we had no choice but to cut it(laughs).
――Continuing on, what about Rupa's character setting? Hanada: While we were thinking about Tomo's personality and setting, we also asked ourselves, if there's someone who can be with her, what sort of person would that be.
――So in other words, similar to Subaru who is good at navigating social situations, Rupa has an image of someone who can act as the adult in the room. Hanada: I don't think she is someone who wants to find sympathy in people with the same kind of scars she has. Nor is she looking for anyone to understand that pain. In the first place, it's not like Rupa herself thinks she can understand the pain of others, nor does she want to. She's the type of character who's strong-willed and is not looking to lick each other's wounds. In other words, she's like an adult who knows how cruel reality can be. There's her backstory of her family passing away. It's not like her bandmates didn't ask her about it, it's a situation where they can't. I also wanted to write more about Rupa's story, but I decided not to force it in due to time constraints. Like the audience, Nina and the band are in a situation where they only know fragments of her past. So it'll be better to write Rupa as someone who says "I want to stay by this person's side" and "Let's get along".
Tumblr media
――The fact that she's the only half-Japanese in the band. We don't know her family name, only her given name. That makes her a very unique character. Hanada: Part of that is we wanted to emphasise her as a mystery character. On top of that, it's not unnatural at all for at least one person to be half-Japanese among a group as large as this in this age.
――From the cast members, we've also heard that it was actually easier to act out Rupa because her background has not yet been set in stone. (For more details, check out part 2 of the interview with the cast members!) But now that the anime has finished airing, there are a lot of people asking what exactly her character setting is. Hanada: Of course, there are more details for her character. Not every information about her has been perfectly depicted on screen, but no doubt a good part of her personality has. Teshima's illustrations (Character Designer in charge, Teshina nari) and Shuri's voice acting have greatly contributed to her standing out. Especially that sound check scene in Episode 11 「Centre of the World」. We were confident that 「This will definitely be a hit!」, and were very excited to see the audience's reaction when it aired.
――Regarding Tomo, she's been in a band before, but as seen on screen it didn't work out well. In all of them, only Rupa was always by her side. So I want to ask what's their relationship like. Hanada: Tomo doesn't want anyone digging into her heart. That's the same with Rupa. I don't think things will go well if every band member has the same 「Let's speak candidly with each other」 way of thinking. But when it comes to music, they are both serious about it. So Rupa and Tomo get along well on the same wavelength.
――Were there any non-explicit settings for the band overall? Hanada: For me, I have the image of a family in mind when I write their dialogue. Momoka is the dad and Rupa is the mom. Subaru is the older sister, Nina is the older brother and Tomo is the youngest sister. That's why, when the dad and son always end up fighting, the remaining girls watch over while Subaru the older sister tries to mediate.
――That's true, whenever Nina and Momoka clash it feels like a fight among boys. Hanada: Certainly when it comes to Momoka and Nina, when their feelings clash it kinda feels like a fight between boys. Sure harmony and reconciliation are important, but if there's no meaning to the fight if there isn't any conviction or pride. That's what I keep in mind when writing how they clash.
Tumblr media
Page 3
Nina's rival isn't 「Diamond Dust」 but Hina
――Continuing on, I like to ask about the setting for 「Diamond Dust」 (from now on referred to as 「DD」) Hanada: Regarding DD, initially they were positioned as an enemy that Nina must defeat. When Nina came to Tokyo and heard Momoka's story, she thought that 「Momoka was bullied by her former bandmates and they were now her enemy」. But in truth, Nana, Rin and Ai are all really good people. And Nina slowly understands that they are all working hard and struggling in their own way. My intention was to obscure that part from the start, so both Nina and the audience feel 「What a bunch of show off!」 towards DD. But once Nina and the audience hear more about their story, call it from an adult's point of view or from something realistic, they slowly learn that Momoka too had a part in this problem. On top of that, Momoka herself thinks that she's in the wrong. It's through the course of those events that Nina and the audience learn how should one compromise with society and how people can't be easily simplified. For example in Episode 4 「Kansha (Odoroki) 」 with the story of Subaru and her Grandma. If you look at it objectively from the outside, pure evil doesn't exist much at all in this world. Everyone is just doing things their way, which is what I wanted to show. Nina had a clear divide between enemies and allies, justice and evil when she first came to Tokyo. She learns this world isn't as black and white as she thinks. Nina herself also started saying it at the end of Episode 4 but as Subaru replied 「Who are you to preach!」 (laughs).
Tumblr media
――I've asked about this before from the producer(Tadashi Hirayama) and director(Kazuo Sakai). Regarding the vocalist for DD, Hina, her character wasn't in the initial script right. (We'll dive deeper into this topic with part 3 of the interview!)
Hanada: So in the middle of the story, after Nina learns that DD are in fact good hardworking people, she would've lost her initial motivation. In other words, the existence of 「An enemy she must defeat for Momoka's sake」 is gone. So there was a question of how the story should develop from there. At first, I thought of a story about an evil producer in DD's agency and the script went down that path. But I really didn't want to write such a story, director Sakai and HirayamaP were also at a loss because this didn't feel right. And that's when Hina was born. Rather than focusing on Momoka's DD, we structure the story around Nina facing against Hina. The course of the story turns to Nina learning just what is behind the mind of the one person she is utterly incompatible with.
――During her first screen appearance, the viewers get pulled along by Nina's hatred of Hina. But once I saw how Nina got back on her feet in the final episode, I somewhat understood just what exactly Hina was trying to say to her.
Hanada: For Hina, the reason why she is so attracted to Nina is very similar to Subaru's reason. Nina holds a kind of childishness in her heart while Hina doesn't have that explosive energy. That's why in the final episode 「Rockn'Roll Won't Stop Ringing」, she went out of her way to agitate her. 「I don't want you to get caught up in this mess made by the higher ups」 Hina thought. She knows exactly how Nina will act if she agitates her, so this is her way of cheering Nina on.
――In a way, no one understands Nina more than her. Hahada: If you watch it till the end, one can say Nina has no enemies.
Tumblr media
――Besides that, is there also any inexplicit setting regarding DD? Hanada: If I have to say, there are some but, I want to keep those a secret for now (laughs) But if I have to give you one, it'll be about their relationship with Momoka. It's not shown on screen but, it was Momoka who pulled the other 3 with her to Tokyo. At that time Momoka was the one who was not looking at reality the most. So in the end, when she was the first to say she was running away, she felt an enormous pressure in her heart. She felt like she must carry the weight of responsibility for those 3. That's probably also one of the reasons why it was too hard for her to continue being in the band. But with 「Togenashi Togeari」 (from now referred to as TogeToge) things were different. Nina was also shouldering part of that weight of responsibility. Their relationship in this band is on equal grounds. With TogeToge, Momoka could see a different world compared to when she was in DD.
――On top of that, the members of TogeToge all joined the band of their own free will, that weight of responsibility is pretty different. Hanada: Momoka's time at DD is similar to the story of Takeshi Tomizawa in the manzai duo 「Sandwhichman」. Tomizawa had convinced his friend Mikio Date to become stand-up comedians together. But for 10 years they couldn't make it big, barely surviving on doing part-time and odd jobs. Tomizawa said to Date 「The only way I can apologize to you is by killing myself」. That's the kind of mental state Momoka was in. That weight of responsibility crushing on her was the main reason she felt like she could no longer be in the band.
――Once again, with regards to the band name 「Togenashi Togeari」. How was the name decided? In the anime, Nina saw it by chance on the T-shirt of an audience…
Hanada: Oh there's no deep meaning to it. Just one of the many ideas that we whittle down in meetings.
――The name of their rival band 「Diamond Dust」 is in a way very typical. So TogeToge's name is quite impactful.
Hanada: Not really, at first I thought 「Are we really fine with this name?」. It's going to be the name of the real-life band as well after all. But, when it comes to names of famous bands and manzai duos, having a somewhat random name surprisingly works out well (laughs). We had a lot of different suggestions but, since this is a band that was formed from such a story, we decided this thorny name that stands out is the way to go.
Page 4
「Life does not end after graduation」 , writing about facing society head on
――As for the members of the real-life band, this is the first time they have all voice-acted, I want to ask what are your thoughts on it? Hanada: Sure when it comes to acting itself, a professional with plenty of experience would be better. But the way these girls put their soul into the character, they all have an extraordinary level of passion, as they build on it episode by episode they get better exponentially. Combining both voice acting and band practice, it links to the essence of TogeToge in the anime.
Tumblr media
――You gave the example of a family of 5 earlier, the cast members managed to portray it exactly as you said. Hanada: When I first watched Episode 1 「Tokyo Wasshoi」 and Episdoe 2 「Yakousei no Ikimomo sanbiki」, I never expected they could perfectly encapsulate their characters like in Episode 8 「 Moshimo kimi ga naku naraba」. It was truly incredible.
――Were there any scenarios you added to your script from inspirations from the activities of the real-life band? Hanada: No, I try not to. If the real-life band doesn't sell at all like in the anime that would be very troubling (laughs). Nina and the band said 「Even if we aren't making money, we will still move forward!」. So if we were to mix those together would be pretty bad…Like before in the halftime show of the J league.
(referring to the Kawasaki Sprint half-time event Tomo's VA Natsu ran on May 11th, a J1 league match between Kawasaki Frontale and Sapporo Consadole)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The members of TogeToge were on the field cheering on the event. But if it was Nina she would absolutely say 「Why are we doing this! This is not why I'm in this band!」 while her thorns go flying about (laughs). If I do link this to the anime I'll have to spend the rest of my life apologizing to the cast.
――You mentioned on social media that you wanted to write more episodes. I believe it was about Toma and Rupa. Are there any other ideas? Hanada: I wanted their trip to Nagano to be just a little bit longer. Oh and a comedy episode like the first half of Episode 9 「Kaketa Tsukiga Deteita」. Just an episode of them chittering and chattering around would be very funny.
Tumblr media
――My impression after all 13 episodes, is it was mostly the drama aspect that's been cramped in with little room for the comedic element. Hanada: Yes that's right. Nina barging into Tomo's house in episode 9 is an example, I thought it'd be nice if we had more chances to include this kind of scene.
――Rupa also kicked down Subaru's door in that episode. I'm surprised that this gag showed such a gap compared to what we usually see of Rupa. In a way she's quite the martial artist, that is one of Rupa's inexplicit settings right. Hanada: Right right, Rupa is extremely strong in a fight. Oh, and she also loves to defeat her opponents by getting them drunk on alcohol. She'll line up glasses of tequila and have a drinking match. She loves the look on her opponent's face when they are passed out drunk.
――She has the impression of someone who's light and drifting, but in reality, when you go against her, she has no openings. On top of that, she is physically strong as well. Kind of like a Final Boss of a video game. Hanada: Speaking of being strong in a fight, for Nina, Rupa is an adult who knows the right kind of fights to take on. Compared to Momoka who surprisingly doesn't. That's why in Episode 11 「Centre of the World」, that concert was the best way to take on a fight against DD. That is how adults should fight is what I'm trying to express.
――In this series, Nina's relationship with her family is a very critical part of the story. How did you structure the story? Hanada: Regarding Nina's family as depicted in Episode 10 「Wandervogel」. Actually, director Sakai requested a big change from the original script. In my script, after Nina talked to her father beyond the sliding door, her father did not come out and send her off. The final scene was her holding the keys to her apartment and a shot of the cut-down branch in the front garden. Like with the ending of Episode 4 「Kansha(Odoroki)」, I had no plans for things to end happily where everyone understands each other. That aspect is still around to a certain degree, but I left some space for others to write. Nina and her father in the end couldn't understand each other, but they both recognize that the only path they can move is forward. Director Sakai is an actual father with children. So as a father, he thought Nina should receive a proper send-off from her father.
――In the very last scene of the anime, the band quits the agency and starts from scratch. Hanada: If the ending was a fully seated Budoukan and they won against DD, the story would just end up like 「Love Live」. I have no plans for a happy ending right from the start. Like Episode 10 we discussed earlier, I don't think any problems can be that easily solved. But even so, one can only move forward. That's the one theme I want this story to be consistent with. So when I thought what's the best way to express such a theme in the ending. I came up with what we have now.
――If you could make a sequel, what sort of stories would you like to include? Previously you mentioned the comedic elements… Hanada: This is just an example I thought of but, Nina gets persuaded by a super ikemen vocalist to heedlessly follow him into his house. But when it seemed like he was about to make a move on her, Nina knocks him out with a tomoe-nage judo throw and runs back home. I can't include bits like this if it was an idol show. So I thought it'd be pretty funny to include it. Oh, and I would love to make more episodes about their daily lives.
――Once again, now that the anime has finished airing. Do you have any response or thoughts about it? Hanada: Of the stories I've written about a group of girls centred around music, all of them are set in high school so the story ends after graduation. But, life does not end at the graduation ceremony. When I thought about it, I gave myself homework of sorts. I must write a story about 「Life Beyond Graduation」. This series has a bit of that in it. 「Beyond Graduation」 is in other words, facing head-on against society. There comes a time when one must face society with nothing to protect you with. So for me, including such a theme in my writing is like stepping into uncharted waters.
――As a whole, this story seems like it is written from the perspective of Nina's coming to terms with society.
Compared to episode 1, Nina has grown a lot by the final episode. For example, if it was the Nina who first came to Tokyo. She would have never accepted their manager Miura lowering her head to DD, asking for help about the band battle. Nina would've been extremely angry about it. But she has come to understand that one needs to compromise with society. Adults have their own complicated situations to deal with too. Mirua's actions are for the benefit of the band and Nina has learned to be grateful about it.
Tumblr media
――Lastly, do you have any messages for the fans? Thank you for supporting this story with such a pain-in-the-ass main character (laughs). When I was writing this story, I thought that it would be hard for people to love this girl. But in the end, she has gained so many fans. I'm honestly shocked by it but nonetheless, I am grateful. I wish one day there's another chance for us to meet again somewhere. Please continue to support us.
――Thank you very much!
Part 2 of this interview will be with the cast members

The New Kirby Novel Announcement might hint at the future of the series?
...or as I also would like to call it, yet another installment in the "Klu puts on a tinfoil hat in desperate attempts to predict Kirby's future" series.
So you might've already heard about the announcement of the upcoming Kirby Light Novel in the March of 2024. It's title is "The Dream Onsen is a Good Hot Spring" and If you aren't familiar with it's plot yet, here's the full synopsis:
Tumblr media
At first the story doesn't seem too remarkable, there are no promises for new high-stakes adventures on a different planet like in Dedede-focused novel "King Dedede's Great Escape Strategy" or shocking twists like in "Meta Knight and the Knight of Hades", but then it hits you. This novel will feature Elfilin and Daroach. A lot of people who learned of these news did instantly become excited, but not a lot of people seem to have realized just how bizarre this is.
If you aren't familiar too well with the novels in general, their utilization of the extended game cast is quite similar to the way mainline games handle them. As in, they rarely if ever appear if their names aren't "Kirby", "King Dedede", "Bandana Dee" or "Meta Knight". If novels could help it, they only use the main four and occasional recurring enemy/helper like Burning Leo or Chilly (and Chef Kawasaki as a bonus) as the supporting cast. And if the original story requires more important characters, instrumental in the narrative, Mie Takase, novels' author, tends to invent entirely new ones instead.
So far there were only 3 types of novels that primarily utilized game-exclusive characters. I myself sorted them out by type, this is not an official classification or anything. Here's a nifty chart:
Tumblr media
Remixes, as I like to call them, are quote unquote "original stories" that feature game characters like Magolor, Taranza or Animal Buddies. But while most of the plot seems original, more often than not it seems as a re-imagining of the actual game plots. Kirby's Labyrinth Rescue is probably the most egregious example, as it's an unholy amalgamation of Return to Dream Land, Triple Deluxe, Rainbow Curse and Amazing Mirror. While a lot of the story might be original, they are "based" on something from the games instead of being wholly original narratives.
AUs are interesting, because they do tend to have entirely new stories that utilize game characters, but this is only with an asterisk that they take place in entirely different world from the main novels/game-adjacent canon.
Adaptations speak for themselves. They might have an original character or two (mostly early on in novels' existence) but they are mostly 1:1 faithful adaptations with some omissions and additions that don't significantly alter the narrative (with sole exception of Planet Robobot's novelization letting President Haltmann live for some reason). Notable thing is, that in case of certain game-adaptations, like Merry Magoland or Kirby Fighters 2, mentions/appearances of extended game cast are omitted or heavily limited (In KF2 novel Magolor and Gooey don't appear or get mentioned at all, in Merry Magoland only Gooey is mentioned among masks of the characters that don't appear in the story in flesh).
As you can see, this newly announced novel doesn't fall under ANY of these categories. It's a brand new, seemingly slice-of-life-esque story, that just so happens to randomly include Daroach and Elfilin. This is highly unusual because novels rarely if ever take risks or go out of their comfort zone. They kind of established the rules and formulas of how they work for years now and it's been working out for them. So why anything would change now?
Well. Heh... What if this sudden change in direction is actually reflective of franchise-wide changes? Shinya Kumazaki talked about how Forgotten Land is going to be the beginning for "the new phase of Kirby". So far it's hard to tell what he actually meant by this. But I would argue that one of the aspects that could be true in this new "phase" is more frequent utilization of the extended Kirby cast.
Novels, in terms of franchise-wide hierarchy, some of the closest things to the actual games in terms of importance, mainly thanks to how much of a juggernaut in terms of sales they are within Japan. Across 10 years of their existence they managed to sell over 3 million copies of all books, which might not sound that impressive, until you realize that these are books for children that until recently were purely Japanese-exclusive endeavor.
These books are the only adaptations, to our knowledge anyway, that get special privileges from HAL themselves in terms of telling some plot and lore details that even fans aren't aware of. Shinya Kumazaki even directly supervised and helped to write one of the books (Return to Dream Land's novelization that came out in 2022). It doesn't mean that novels are canon, but it does mean that they tend to reflect the current status-quo of the series better than most other aspects outside of the games.
So this sudden inclusion of ensemble cast in a random story might signify HAL's willingness to do more with these characters. Elfilin alone wouldn't have been perhaps that surprising, as he was hinted to have more importance past his debut in how he passionately expressed that he wants to stay by Kirby's side forever, but Daroach's inclusion is puzzling because while he did appear in multiple games, he didn't get any merch or notable appearances lately.
Of course, this might mean absolutely nothing! But I feel like this is more notable than most people give it credit for. At worst, this means nothing except that novels will utilize game cast more frequently, which would be cool, at best, it means that HAL is opening up to the idea of returning past characters more frequently, which would be awesome. Let's wait and see, I suppose.

Reworked Groups #5: Ikari Warriors
POTENTIAL TRIGGER WARNING: Viewer discretion is advised due to references to death.
Overview
A mysterious Japanese-German man known only as Heidern served as strategist for the esteemed Peregrine Falcons Squad. He’s also the founder and Supreme General of the Ikari Warriors. Heidern once enjoyed a peaceful yet militant life, living in the countryside with his wife. However, following the birth of his daughter, he contemplated retiring from the Peregrine Falcons Squad on good terms. However, tragedy struck when he lost his family. Consumed by grief and a desire for vengeance, he channelled his energy into founding the Ikari Warriors, an elite force determined to combat global injustices, crime, and terrorism.
With the backing of the Peregrine Falcons Squad's high command, Heidern implemented a rigorous military training program for his recruits. He went above and beyond to identify and refine each soldier's unique skills, recognizing that everyone approaches challenges differently.
After losing his sight in a surprise pirate attack during a Caribbean cruise and subsequently being diagnosed with lymphoma, Heidern relinquished his leadership to General Kawasaki. Following Kawasaki's brutal murder at the hands of a Mexican cartel, Heidern urgently sought a new successor. With the help of his mercenaries, Heidern spent weeks searching until he finally rescued Leona, a young Czech girl, from an unnamed town under siege by rogue militia forces. However, he soon discovered a dark truth: Leona had temporarily lost control of her esper abilities, resulting in the tragic death of her parents. The rogue militia, who were looking for her, intended to use her as a bioweapon.
Offering her a fresh start and a chance to fight against global injustices, Leona accepted, largely due to having no other options. Leona was trained by Heidern, Clark, Ralf, and other seasoned members of the Ikari Warriors, who oversaw her rigorous military training and moulded her into a skilled mercenary and capable leader.
Although Heidern has passed on his leadership to Leona, he remains actively involved with the Ikari Warriors, focusing on training recruits and developing tactical strategies. Notably, he played a pivotal role in training Clark and Ralf, recognizing their exceptional esper abilities—a talent previously unseen among Ikari Warriors recruits.
Following the Great Modern War, the Ikari Warriors joined the Regular Army to form its elite mercenary branch. As a private force for hire, they specialise in resolving extreme crises, while also undertaking smaller-scale missions. With a versatile rank structure, the Ikari Warriors can be contracted for a wide range of situations and danger levels.
Insignia
It features a lozenge-shaped silver-grey shield, outlined in shimmering luxor gold and trimmed with reseda chartreuse on the exterior. The shield's centre features the Japanese character “怒” (meaning “fury”) in alizarin red, painted in a bold, expressive style, with a horizontal bronze bullet below. A crimson-hilted silver dagger runs diagonally along its left side, while a bronze full moon is suspended above the shield. An ultramarine motto ribbon sits below the shield with the name of the special forces unit, Ikari Warriors, emblazoned in alizarin red.
Ikari Warriors Base
The Zorniger Mond Hideout is a rhomboid military complex situated deep within a Congolese jungle, its strategic location enhanced by a camouflage system expertly blending into the surroundings. The base's exterior is coated in a range of jungle green tones, including sulu, wild willow, asparagus, mineral green, and timber green. This stealthy design, combined with a state-of-the-art bulletproof system, provides the Ikari Warriors with a significant tactical advantage. They can launch surprise attacks on enemy forces without being detected.
The base boasts perimeter surveillance cameras and discreet, automated turret systems that detect and neutralise unauthorised personnel. They have a reinforced, electrified fence surrounding the base with strategically placed watchtowers featuring sniper positions. Additionally, they have a rooftop helicopter pad and four strategically positioned parabolic satellites, one at each corner of the base. The military complex comprises the following facilities:
A central command centre housing Heidern's and Leona's private quarters, a large strategy room with holographic display and tactical planning tools, communication arrays for secure global connectivity, and a situation room for real-time mission monitoring.
An intelligence room dedicated to gathering and analysing intel on potential missions and enemies, featuring computer systems for data analysis and cryptology, and secure storage for sensitive documents and classified information.
Simple, functional accommodations for mercenaries, including a barracks, mess hall, showers, a gym, a lounge, a game room, and personal storage lockers for gear and equipment.
An armoury with storage for weapons, ammunition, and explosives, and an adjacent repair workshop.
A fully equipped medical facility with an operating room for emergency surgeries, recovery ward, and medical supply storage.
A garage for storing and maintaining vehicles acquired through purchase, donation from the Regular Army or capture from enemies.
A commemorative wall honouring fallen comrades, alongside display cases showcasing the team's highest-achieving awards and medals.
A trophy room displaying captured enemy equipment and memorabilia with a secure storage room for valuable and sensitive seized assets.
A coliseum, cloaked in a muted blend of mossy green, olive drab, and earthy brown hues, is protected by a bullet-proof glass dome. By day, it's a training ground and hosts special tournaments. At night, the dome darkens to an inky black, and the interior shines a vibrant crimson under the moonlight.
Extra Information
Members of the Ikari Warriors are commonly known as "Soldiers of Fortune" or "Hired Ragers”, reflecting their reputation as elite mercenaries of the Regular Army and their fierce combat prowess.
Unlike other mercenary groups, the Ikari Warriors host biennial tournaments that are open to their members and anyone else interested in participating. These events serve as a platform to assess the physical prowess and mental strategies of both seasoned and new members, while also identifying potential recruits who may be interested in joining their ranks.
They’re the only branch in the Regular Army that doesn’t have dedicated soldiers wearing uniforms that identify them as part of the Ikari Warriors. To make things even more unusual, they have minimal interaction with members from other special forces units within the Regular Army, particularly the elite operatives, due to their singular focus on high-risk, large-scale and smaller-scale missions that typically fall outside the scope of the P.F. Squad, S.P.A.R.R.O.W.S., and Division 6.
Soldiers of Fortune, regardless of gender, receive double the average Canadian soldier's salary, acknowledging the high risks involved in their line of work. Heidern's policy ensures these elite mercenaries receive maximum financial support.
The handguns carried by Soldiers of Fortune are the Ultra Justitia Model-1977 .380 ACP or Justitia .380 ACP for short. This semi-automatic pistol is based on the Beretta Cheetah 80X, but features a distinctive grip that would later influence the design of the Walther PK380. Designed in 1977 to enhance the Beretta Cheetah's ergonomics, it offers a superior grip and hold, along with an increased ammo capacity of 15 rounds. It’s primarily used by private military companies, but it has also seen adoption by some Regular Army units.

Shupure x Nogizaka46 5th Generation: Another Story (2023-2024)
Tumblr media
The spin-off of a once popular serialization
NOGIZAKA46 STORIES
Another Story
~Someday, like our seniors~
11.12.2023
Nogizaka46 continues to be a frontrunner in the idol world. These are the stories of the 5th generation members who will carry the [group's] future on their shoulders. What did these four girls [Tomisato, Ogawa, Ichinose, Nakanishi] admire about Nogizaka46 and what led them here?
February, 2022. On the official Nogizaka46 Youtube channel, the profile videos for the 5th generation have started being released.
"Born in Kanagawa Prefecture, 16 years old. I am Inoue Nagi." The first to step out into the world was Inoue Nagi, who now continues to lead the 11 members as the 'face' of the 5th generation. We've covered her answer in a later Shunkan Playboy interview. "My video was officially released on a weekday at lunchtime, and the more people from different classes and different grades got to see it, the more people gathered in my classroom at lunch break. Even on my way home, I suddenly had a stranger cheer on me and tell me 'Do your best!'"
Before they knew it, Nogizaka46 had become a group that 'everyone yearns for' and out of a total of 87852 applications, only 11 girls were chosen. Surely, the girls also must have found their way to Nogizaka46 with great admiration of their own. This time, we've asked the four 5th generation members to recount their story - from early childhood, all the way until joining Nogizaka46.
The case of Tomisato Nao: to forget about sadness.
The case of Ichinose Miku: admiring cute girls.
The case of Ogawa Aya: the search for a never-ending youth.
The case of Nakanishi Aruno: [emotionally] touched by a chain reaction of warmth.
With each retracing their own stories, these four girls have come together in Nogizaka46. These modest girls undoubtedly will maintain their humble attitude, thinking 'Someday, [we'll be] like our seniors.....'
However, they are already undeniably part of Nogizaka46. As for these four, they are also moving forward as 'people to look up to'.

Another Story
~The world can change with just one step~
01.04.2024
Following last December's 'All about Nogizaka46 gravure!' issue, this time we'll be featuring three newly-written episodes from these three 5th generation members [Ioki, Okamoto, Okuda]. Before joining Nogizaka46, what kind of decisions - that ended up changing their world - did they make?
The case of Ioki Mao: the things I've gained from those three painful years.
The case of Okamoto Hina: 12 years dedicated to ballet.
The case of Okuda Iroha: guided by Nogizaka46's songs.
___________________________________________
Another Story
~Before meeting the next generation~
Following last December and this April's 'All about Nogizaka46 gravure!' issues, this time we have also written new stories about these four members from the 5th generation.
Prior, [the 5th generation] had just discovered Nogizaka46 and before long, the 6th generation will now be joining. What do the girls think?
"The world can change with just one step." It was with these words that this year, Nogizaka46 held its first audition in three years - for the sixth generation. The 11 5th generation members who were previously chosen from a total of 87852 applicants will finally become 'seniors'.
Last December and once more, in April of this year, we've interviewed seven of the 5th generation members about their journey from early childhood all the way to having found their way to Nogizaka46. This time, the remaining four members - Ikeda Teresa, Inoue Nagi, Kawasaki Sakura and Sugawara Satsuki will be appearing. The four girls were asked to talk about their own stories, as well as their near future as [soon-to-be] seniors.
The case of Ikeda Teresa: a girl with an asset of her own.
The case of Inoue Nagi: a girl who realized what she really wanted to do.
The case of Kawasaki Sakura: the girl who kept on standing by herself in the ice rink.
The case of Sugawara Satsuki: Gratitude to the people who made me into who I am today. <- Has already been translated by my friend @minmin_naeil on Twitter, so I'll be linking their translation.
Thus, the four 5th generation members, each [walking on] their own path, found their way to Nogizaka46. These girls who have been named 'the next generation' are [about to become] seniors too, and the group certainly is transforming.
Finally, the four girls were asked to imagine the near future of the 5th generation.
Kawasaki Sakura.
"This year and last year, many of our seniors have graduated. Now, much like our seniors, we ought to be recognized as 'girls from Nogizaka46' even outside of the group['s activities]. In my case, it could be something related to fashion, which I've always liked, or the acting which I first found fun thanks to the 'Nogizaka46 5th generation Musical Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon'. I want to challenge myself with all sorts of different things and I aim to attract new fans of Nogizaka46 through outside activities."
Ikeda Teresa.
"It's been three years since we've joined, and up until now we've been helped by the power of Nogizaka46, so I believe that now we ought to become that strength. I can't imagine what kind of senior I will become or how exactly I'm going to do my best, but, I'm someone who respects my seniors, so I hope to be a senior that the 6th generation will respect. Without lying to myself, I plan to earnestly continue doing my activities from now on too."
Sugawara Satsuki.
"Last year, when I got to have a discussion with the now graduated Akimoto Manatsu-san (1st generation, former captain), Manatsu-san told me 'The 5th generation is trying to unite the Nogizaka from the old days with a [certain] newness' and 'Maybe, Satsuki-chan will become someone who can support everyone'. For the past year and a half, I have been working with Manatsu-san's words as my moral support. Umezawa (Minami; 3rd generation)-san who became the captain last year also has taught us - both by example and with her words - how to approach our activities. Most likely, from the viewpoint of the 6th generation who will be joining us, it'll be difficult to talk to the seniors in the 3rd and 4th generation, given that they are from different generations. That is why I want to convey the lessons learned from Manatsu-san and Umezawa-san to the 6th generation little by little, and I want to become a senior who's able to do that."
Inoue Nagi.
"I'm not sure if I'm in a position to say this but, I want to be a [source of] 'hope' for the 6th generation members. I want the new members of Nogizaka46 to think that the future beyond this point will be 'very bright and sparkling'. Right now, I... I'm carrying a lot of responsibility on my shoulders, but I feel like that's the role that I've been given. I may call them my juniors even though I haven't even met them yet (laughs) but, I want to become a senior who can support them as we spend time together as Nogizaka46."
Before long, a new chapter from the tale of Nogizaka46 will begin.
Those who gathered here as one two and a half years ago - much like their predecessors before them - must be on the slope of the hill, eagerly awaiting a new generation.

2024 Retrospective: Rookies of the Year
RESCENE (UhUh, YoYo, Love Attack, Pinball, New World)
The girl group market may be a little oversaturated right now, but what’s one more? These girls are just really talented, and their music is good. I also think it’s cool that they got recognised by the Grammys and Billboard for SCENEDROME, which is a mini album I wish I had. I think they can be great in the future.
Honourable Mentions:
Phantom Siita (I just wanna xxxx with you, Zoku Zoku, HANAGATAMI, Mashou Shoujo, Otomodachi, Hanabami, Otome Shinjou)
This J-Pop group is produced by Ado, who is becoming more and more popular by the day. I think it’s really cool that she got this opportunity, and it seems that she has a great eye for talent. Miu in particular has a really good voice. Their retro horror concept is also really cool and refreshing. If anyone remembers DEEP GIRL, they are similar to them, but have more staying power, in my opinion.
ONE OR EIGHT (Don’t Tell Nobody, Kawasaki)
I checked out this group, because a Shawol on Twitter pointed out that one of the SHINee Kids background dancers was debuting in the group and I thought that was cool. They are pretty talented. Apparently half of the members used to be backup dancers before debuting, which is interesting. They also seem to have stolen one of HYBEs best trainees.
New:ID (GHOST)
They already had a pre-debut track last year, but their official debut was in 2024 so I’m counting them now. They seem to be pretty talented, but their label appears to be a little messy.
Kento Nakajima (Picaresque, jealous, THE CODE)
Technically he is not a rookie, so I’m not giving it to him, but I just really wanted to mention him. He is a former member of Sexy Zone/timelesz but left the group and Johnnys in 2023 and honestly, good for him, he shouldn’t be gatekept to Japan as Johnnys likes to do with their artists. Kento is just really fucking talented and cool. His collaboration with Tatsuya Kitani was really good and his feature on HITOGOTOs album was also really nice. And then he decided to release his first solo album on the 26th of December. The album slaps. I’m really excited to see what he does next.
KAVE (Venom, Legend, Stone, You)
It seems like Gaho officially gave up on trying to be an idol and just became a rockstar instead. It’s a win in my book honestly, because KAVEs music slaps. I think this is the first time I’m really rooting for a K-Rock band, but with Gaho, I just really want to see him succeed, because he deserves it.

Countdown: Must-watch AUSX Open storylines
Tumblr media
This weekend’s highly-anticipated return of the AUSX Open at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium has all the ingredients for a spectacular night of competition, featuring a full-sized, world-class track, all Australian Supercross Championship titles still on the line, and of course, the much-awaited return of Hunter and Jett Lawrence to Australian shores. These are the must-see storylines you need to follow in this Countdown feature.

7. Last chance for best-placed Australians to shine:
Melbourne signifies the last opportunity for Australia’s top-performing Australians to end the 2024 season on a high note, especially in the SX1 class. With Cooper Webb and the Lawrences descending on this final round, wins/podiums are going to be harder than ever to earn for Australian national front-runners Luke Clout (Empire Kawasaki) and Jed Beaton (CDR Yamaha Monster Energy). Clout has been the only Australian to steal a race win from Honda Racing imports Joey Savatgy and Dean Wilson, while Beaton has steadily improved as the season progresses, culminating with his first-ever supercross round podium in Adelaide. In the SX2 class, Empire Kawasaki’s Reid Taylor and KTM Racing Team’s Kayden Minear will be aiming to finish their seasons strongly after contrasting wildcard appearances at the Perth round of the FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX) last weekend. Taylor dislocated thumb on his way to 14-14 results from the two rounds, while Minear impressed there with 8-7 results.
6. Dean Wilson’s status:
Wilson’s AUSX SX1 title defence took a knock at Adelaide’s fourth round when he finished runner-up to series leader Savatgy in what really was a must-win round for him. If he’d managed to beat his Honda Racing team-mate there, the gap between the two would only be two points instead of eight heading into the season finale. But Wilson’s entire campaign has a big question-mark hanging over it after a SuperFinal clash with Vince Friese at Perth’s WSX round saw him end the night with a torn labrum (shoulder). It’s a major blow for Wilson and it’s unclear if or when he’ll undergo surgery. Even if he does line up on Saturday, he could be operating at a lot lower capacity and will need to rely on some luck going his way if he wants to secure back-to-back championships.

5. The Connolly vs Thompson showdown:
There is little love lost between Honda Racing team-mates Brodie Connolly and Cole Thompson, and just four points separate the New Zealander and the Canadian heading into the AUSX Open. They’ve found each other on the track at every round so far, with little to separate them once the gate drops. Both the SX1 and SX2 classes will again race three finals on Saturday night, meaning there will be plenty of opportunities for these two to clash again. The fast-starting Connolly has been something of a revelation in his first-ever supercross attempt, while Thompson has proven multiple times that he can quickly slice through the pack and position himself well for wins, should the opportunity present itself.
4. The AUSX Open reboot:
It’s been five years since the AUSX Open was last held in 2019 in front of more than 35,000 fans. The covid pandemic put the brakes on, shortly afterward, then the promoters – Adam Bailey and Ryan Sanderson at the time – focused their energy on trying to get the WSX off the ground with SX Global. Now effectively operated by AME Group, which is now led by Kelly Bailey, the AUSX Open has finally been resurrected and expectations are high that it’ll carry on where the previous events left off. Securing the Lawrences and Webb is a real coup and carries on the event’s tradition of attracting the world’s best riders, while the return of the FMX Best Trick competition, the Yamaha bLU cRU YZ65 Cup, and the final rounds of the SX3 and CR22 85cc Cup will ensure plenty of on-track action all evening.
3. Honda Racing to again win both titles:
Regardless of how things shake out on Saturday, it’s looking likely that Yarrive Konsky’s Honda Racing team will again secure both major championships, capping off a spectacular year of racing for the team. In SX1, Savatgy has won three of the four rounds after being beaten by an in-form Wilson at Redcliffe 1. He might now have an eight-point lead over Wilson, but he’s got a 17-point gap on third-placed Clout. Meanwhile Shane McElrath has asserted his dominance on the SX2 class and comes into Melbourne with a 10-point lead over Connolly. The highest-placed non-Honda Racing rider is Taylor in fourth, but he’s 24 points off the top spot. While Clout and Taylor are both mathematical chances for the two titles, it’s a very long shot against the log-jam of Honda riders ahead of them.

2. Cooper Webb and the role of spoiler:
While most of the hype has been around the Lawrences’ homecoming, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb is more than capable of throwing cold water on the party. Just two weeks ago, the double AMA 450SX champion was crowned ‘King’ at the Paris Supercross, where he also went up against the Lawrences over two nights. While Jett won five of the six races and DNF’d one after crashing into a lapped rider while leading, Webb proved consistency is key. He finished the weekend with one race win, three runner-ups and two P3s. Afterwards he paid respects to Lawrence as the fastest racer on the weekend, but also stated that he’d gained confidence from the fact that he was never that far behind the young Australian. Hunter also raced at Paris and finished the event fourth overall behind Webb, Malcolm Stewart (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) and Jett.
1. The Lawrences return home:
Not since the last AUSX Open in 2019 have Australian fans been able to watch one of the Lawrence brothers in action on home soil. Five years ago a 16-year-old Jett Lawrence made his professional supercross debut at Marvel Stadium, while Hunter hasn’t raced in Australia since 2015 when he won the ‘MX Rookies’ outdoor championship at Coolum. A lot has eventuated since then, with the two brothers setting the standard in the US, claiming almost every title available, and finishing 1-2 in this year’s SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX). The Team Honda HRC pairing are two of the very biggest stars in the sport and the opportunity to watch them first-hand in their final race of a long season has fans eagerly counting down the days. Turn up the speed and efficiency with the Hydro-Gear Hydrostatic ZT-2200 Transmission, which provides a smooth and responsive ride. We were impressed by how effortlessly this mower navigated our test lawn's tight spaces and inclines. You'll appreciate the generous 3.5-gallon fuel capacity, which means you'll spend less time refueling and more time getting the job done. What we love most about the Z254F is its exceptional cutting performance, leaving your lawn looking professionally manicured. One downside is the mower's weight, which can make it difficult to maneuver in tight spaces. Additionally, the seat could be more comfortable, especially for longer mowing sessions. Pros: Powerful 24HP/726cc Kawasaki engine Excellent cutting performance Generous 3.5-gallon fuel capacity Smooth and responsive Hydro-Gear transmission Cons: Heavy and difficult to maneuver in tight spaces Uncomfortable seat for longer mowing sessions CHECK PRICE ON AMAZONGreenworks 60V Cordless Electric CrossoverZ MowerWhile you may be hesitant to switch from a gas-powered riding lawn mower, the Greenworks 60V Cordless Electric CrossoverZ Mower will make you wonder why you ever settled for anything else. This mower is a game-changer, offering unparalleled convenience, power, and performance. Electric mowers
often get a bad rap for being underpowered, but the Greenworks CrossoverZ defies those expectations. With a 24 HP equivalent and a constant 17,000 ft/min blade speed, this mower cuts cleanly and efficiently, leaving your lawn looking pristine. And with its 42" deck, you'll be able to tackle larger areas with ease. Plus, the added features of this mower are what really set it apart. The integrated cargo bed, which can haul up to 200 lbs. of mulch, soil, and more, is a huge bonus. And with LED headlights, you'll be able to mow at dawn or dusk without worrying about visibility. What I love most about this mower is its sheer convenience – no more worrying about running out of gas or dealing with messy oil changes. That being said, there are a few drawbacks to consider. The 90-minute charge time may be a bit longer than you'd like, especially if you have a larger lawn. And while the mower itself is relatively quiet, the turbo chargers can be a bit loud. But overall, these minor complaints are far outweighed by the benefits of this exceptional mower. Pros: Cuts cleanly and efficiently with 24 HP equivalent and 17,000 ft/min blade speed Large 42" deck for tackling larger areas Integrated cargo bed for hauling mulch, soil, and more LED headlights for early morning and late evening mowing Virtually maintenance-free with no gas, oil, or emissions Cons: 90-minute charge time may be longer than desired Turbo chargers can be a bit loud CHECK PRICE ON AMAZONGreenworks 60V Cordless Electric CrossoverZ MowerFor those who want a reliable and efficient riding lawn mower, the Greenworks 60V Cordless Electric CrossoverZ Mower is an excellent choice. After extensive testing, we found that it delivers on its promises, providing a seamless mowing experience. Some of the standout features of this mower are its impressive cutting speed of 8 mph, which is the industry's fastest, and its quiet operation, producing only 90 dB of noise, making it 4x quieter than gas mowers. You'll appreciate the peace and quiet while mowing, especially during early morning or late evening sessions, thanks to the LED headlights. CrossoverZ's innovative design allows for continuous mowing with its Mow, Swap, and Go feature, which enables you to use two batteries while the remaining two charge. This means you can cut up to 1.5 acres without interruption. What we love most about this product is its maintenance-free design, eliminating the need for gas, oil, and emissions, making it an eco-friendly option. However, we did notice that the mower's cargo bed, although convenient, has a limited capacity of 200 lbs., which might not be sufficient for larger yards or heavy loads. Additionally, the 90-minute charge time, although relatively fast, may still be a drawback for those who need to mow frequently. Pros: Fast cutting speed of 8 mph Quiet operation (90 dB) Maintenance-free design Innovative Mow, Swap, and Go feature LED headlights for early morning/late evening mowing Cons: Limited cargo bed capacity (200 lbs.) 90-minute charge time CHECK PRICE ON AMAZONTo wrap up As a reminder, choosing the best riding lawn mower for your needs can greatly impact your lawn care experience. Just Ride: 2024 Kawasaki Eliminator 500 details released
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Recently unveiled in the outline of 2024 Kawasaki models, full details of the new Kawasaki Eliminator 500 and Eliminator 500 SE are now being released. Set to have a strong presence in the 500cc mid-weight class, the Eliminator family name makes a return for Kawasaki with the unveiling of a machine with a unique design language of its own. Ready to make its mark in the urban style stakes, the EU A2 licence class compliant Eliminator 500 mates a liquid-cooled parallel twin-cylinder motor to Kawasaki’s famous trellis frame technology creating a great power to weight ratio plus a sleek silhouette harnessing a long and low form with horizontal lines defining the tank, seat and tail unit. Delivering an ergonomic package that joins rider to machine in a natural “all day riding comfort” position, the Eliminator can boast a low seat height of just 735mm allowing an easy reach to the ground while offering a total of three seat height options including the standard item plus two others (higher @765mm and lower @715mm) as part of Kawasaki’s genuine accessory Ergo-Fit range.
Tumblr media
All LED lighting further increases day and night presence while an all-digital LCD meter keeps the rider informed of all essential information. Suspended from the tubular trellis chassis, the Eliminator’s parallel twin engine offers strong low-end torque, greatly benefiting low-speed control and manoeuvrability while contributing to low-stress everyday riding. And that riding experience can be enhanced with the features available on Kawasaki’s unique Rideology Smartphone app that allows riders to mate their machine to their handheld device for a new level of rider and motorcycle communication. Up front an 18inch wheel paves the way while an imposing 16 inch rear delivers a clear message about urban style and the personality of the Eliminator and its rider. And under the skin in the “go department”, the Eliminator’s engine harnesses all of Kawasaki’s expertise in a long history of parallel twins. Features such as downdraft intakes provide a short, direct path for intake air to enter the cylinders, a large 5.8 L airbox with left and right intake funnels of different heights contributing to the engine’s smooth response plus large ø32 mm throttle valves helping to flow a greater volume of air, contributing to strong performance.
Tumblr media
The chassis design inspiration comes courtesy of the Ninja 400. Complementing the sleek styling, the steering geometry was carefully selected to achieve light, natural handling. With a 1,520 mm wheelbase, the impressive-looking chassis offers low weight while achieving its impressive design. Additionally, a diecast swingarm mounting plate bolts to the back of the engine assembly allowing the swingarm to be mounted directly to the engine, contributing to stability and light weight. In terms of those all-important looks, a long and low design with elegant proportions is created by the vertically thin fuel tank and the horizontal lines evident from the head pipe to the original tail. The design of this impressive, mid-class sized body suggests a balance of active performance and composure while the round headlight and twin-shock rear suspension add to the authentic motorcycle style. For the SE model a unique colour and graphic package is mated to a stylish headlamp cowl, rubber fork boots, a handlebar mount USB-C port and a special SE seat with a distinctive stitching pattern.
Tumblr media
Add a range of Genuine Accessories and the 2024 Eliminator 500 and Eliminator 500 SE deliver everything an emerging breed of young, fashion conscious urban rider’s demand. Style and substance have rarely been this easy to define. So, get on the Eliminator 500 and Just Ride.
