#Katya Volskaya

One npc i wish got more attention is Katya Volskaya. The way Russia handled the Omnic Crisis was very unique compared to other countries and so obviously the anti-omnic sentiment runs deep. With the new story arc she has so much potential with how she deals with the Null Sector situation Im praying the writing team hasnt dropped her completely.

I honestly hope we see more of her too, but I think it's more likely to see her either be mentioned or be explored in out of game media like novels, short stories and comics. Though I do hope we get data logs from either Zarya or general world events that gives us details on what other countries like Russia are doing.

Considering we get a whole family history of Katya with the Volskaya industries section of Declassified I doubt that the writing team has dropped her. She will probably be important at some point. Maybe in a post Invasion story arc. I think her and Russia's reaction to the Invasion being explored afterwards would be interesting as it would lead to a lot of political discussion we have only seen briefly in Overwatch's story.

Katya Volskaya may be just another NPC to some, but I have inexplicably been drawn to this character almost from the very beginning. The Doomfist is back, and Katya is still alive. There is definitely more to Volskaya and her connection to Talon, and now with Null Sector back and more of a threat than ever before, something tells me she may have a bigger role to play.

☀️ Something I noticed in Overwatch!

☀️ Everyone is saying that the Sombra and Illari interaction about Sombra trying to gather info for Illari and feeling sympathy for her means that Illari is part of Talon.

☀️ I know a lot of people assumed it meant Illari is in Talon, but I remembered it says on the Overwatch website:

☀️ Meaning, in my mind, while Sombra works for Talon, she's basically using their resources for her own purposes and to reach her own goal. It's not like she's completely loyal to Talon, because she joined them after she had to wipe her identity as Olivia and they wanted her to join their ranks.

☀️ So who's to say she doesn't help others outside of Talon with her abilities and knowledge? Like Katya Volskaya in the original Infiltration short.

☀️ So, I don't think Illari is part of Talon, but Sombra might be trying to help her get info on something. Maybe she's trying to get info to see if maybe her ceremony for her solar threading was sabotaged in some way?

☀️ Even though Illari believes it was entirely her fault, Sombra might have convinced her she can see if it really was her fault? Maybe talked to her in a way that made it seem like it wasn't and she would find out whose fault it was? I mean, Sombra seems much more charismatic and charming than the fandom makes her out to be, in my mind. Not to mention how much power she holds over those in authority with her hacking and intel skills.

☀️ Those are my thoughts based on my research, but Sombra seems to have connections with a lot of the other Heroes, so she's definitely got her own agenda.

Austraila –– Moira’s been there, Junkertown specifically, and has met quite the strange little man. He isn’t quite up for her experiments as she hoped he’d be, but she still has the opportunity to sway him, she hopes. Her brief visit there was an interesting one, but the last place she was able to visit, not able to get quite what they wanted out of it. Still, it was fun, to say the least.

Now Russia, that is a place Moira would love to visit, would love to be able to say she’s seen. She’s far too busy here in Oasis, unfortunately, or doing the bidding of Talon of some form or another. It’s getting a bit old, if she’s being honest. Sure, she has access to everything she needs, but where is the challenge to it all? She is able to do whatever she wishes without any interference, but there is quite a large amount of work to be done for Talon, ordered by Talon, and not necessarily what she wishes to do. It is tiresome much of the time.

“Now, what have you done in Russia, Ana?” Moira asks, voice a bit coy. Those fingers are her skin are welcome, and she can’t help the slight smile that continues to appear on her sharp features. She takes another sip of wine, another rather large one, and settles it atop her knee, fingers around the stem. “You will have to sneak me to Russia one day.”

Moira hums at Ana’s words, thinking about her time here. “It has been… mostly good. I have more freedom than I ever did before.” Her voice is bright at the mention of her work, but there’s a tiredness behind it too, only someone who truly knows Moira would be able to catch it. She reckons Ana is that person. “What do you think of it so far?” she asks her, and unsaid is, What do you think of me? “I know some lovely spots around the next time you are here.” Moira gathers that Ana will not be here for long.

“Well,” Ana’s expression flourishes with widening eyes and raised brows as she takes a long sip of wine. Her time in the great city of Moscow had not come without difficulty, given her objective that put her there in the first place. Wetting her lips after drinking, she tilts her head back, with that easy smile ever present. “I won’t give it all away, but it had something to do with one Katya Volskaya...” She trails off purposely, but with a big enough name drop, she’s certain Moira can understand some hint of what she got up to while ‘visiting.’ “So... it might be you who has to sneak me back in.”

A soft laugh follows and quiets in the same breath; she listens to Moira intently, starting to feel warm through her core with the tea and now the wine, giving her the much needed means to relax. “I’m sure being the Minister of Genetics is certainly a well-earned accolade,” Ana answers thoughtfully; she knows the implication of freedom means more than what Moira would’ve had under Blackwatch, but she isn’t here to pick a fight, far from it. “Oasis has built itself upon its reputation and doesn’t disappoint. I can see why you’ve made a home here.” 

A momentary pause falls upon Ana, gaze still holding Moira’s own in high regard. The corner of her mouth tugs upward to a smirk then, letting her hand lightly trail along the curve of Moira’s wrist, hanging over the back of the couch before gradually, slowly falling away. “Are you inviting me back, Doctor? Perhaps when the sun shines and it isn’t monsoon season?” Ana entertains the very thought, and the insinuation that comes with it. “I’d like that.”

A/n: I don't mind at all! I'm just not quite accustomed to Katya's personality since I don't have much to work with but I hope you'll enjoy it nonetheless!

🩹You are Katya's bodyguard, it was Aleksandra's recommendation 🩹 Since your job is basically staying by Katya's side, you're often having dates but you always make sure to catch up with Aleksandra

🩹Although it can be quite tense these days, omnics and humans not really seeing each other eye to eye. You were neutral on this question, you couldn't say it was the same for your girlfriends. Those tensions rising led to a lot of conflicts

🩹Your job to protect Katya was getting harder but you managed. Until today at least

🩹It was a simple mission, get Katya from point A to B. Zarya trusted you to carry out your mission perfectly well. You did too, it was quite simple on the paper.

🩹Boy were you and Zarya wrong

A bomb exploded near the two of you. You managed to get Katya out of the way, but you couldn't say the same for you. You had severe burns on your right side and your ears were ringing for a moment. You couldn't discern what noises were what and you stumbled on the ground.

Katya rushed to you but you stopped her before she got too close. There was still a possibility for an assassin to come out after the bomb. You were barely registering your own words leaving your mouth.

"Get to the car!" She obeyed although quite reluctantly. You limped to get to the car, you managed but in your state, you were not driving that's for sure. Katya headed to your shared house. She eyed you from time to time, making sure you were staying awake. You attempted to talk to her although all that was coming out of your mouth was gibberish. You heard her talk to someone else in Russian. You assumed it was your other partner.

She puts the phone on speaker so you could also talk to her. It was quite a hard task for you right now.

"Are you alright ангел (angel)?" There was concern in her voice, you winced when Katya stopped the car abruptly.

"I've seen better days..." You got out of the car with the help of Katya. Aleksandra kept talking to you, trying to grasp the situation you were in. If you were in a safe place and so on. She knew you could handle yourself, she trained with you and she knew your strength. She just can't help it that her loved ones might be in a dangerous situation. You entered the house, cleaning your wounds, Katya assisting you the best she could. She was not a soldier like Aleksandra but she still knew how to handle some injuries. She certainly will thank you for what you've done.

🩹Aleksandra will also try to assign you easier missions or at least, she'll go with you for the next months or so

🩹Katya will make sure she doesn't go out too much so you don't have to leave the house too many times during your convalescence

🩹All in all, they're worried about you but they know you're strong too

Overwatch Recalled: Zarya

Why did Zarya join Overwatch?

So, on my post about a possible animated short featuring Rein, Brig, Torb, and Bastion, I mentioned making a post about Zarya. So this is that post!

In the behind the scenes of OW2 at Blizzconline, we get to see a lot, including images of work in progress animated shorts and cutscenes. In a bunch of these clips are rough drawing with only a few fully animated parts, but with these rough drawings, you can learn a lot. While going through these clips I found a bunch that has a character that I am sure is Zarya. She is mostly drawn in pink lines (which make sense since her hair is pink) and all of the clips she is in is with the Recalled Overwatch. 

When I saw this I was like, “Oh cool! Zarya’s in Overwatch!” but then I was like, “Wait why is Zarya in Overwatch?” So I’ve put some thought into it and I think I have a good idea of why she joined Overwatch. 

When I started, the 1st thing I did was reread the Zarya and Sombra comic, Searching. The TLDR for the comic is that it is after the Infiltration animated short, Katya Volskaya sends Zarya to find Sombra with an Omnic named Lynx Seventeen, they find Sombra, Sombra tells Zarya about her deal with Volskaya and hacks Lynx. Sombra gets away and Zarya saves Lynx. 

So, by the end of the comic Zarya doesn’t like Volskaya, but isn’t going to say anything, based off of her interaction with Lynx she is slowly moving away from the idea of hating all/most Omnics, and she is mad at Sombra. So, I think she is going to end up joining Overwatch since she is mad at Talon and Volskaya probably doesn’t trust her as much. I think this will be really good for her character development because she will need to work with two, maybe three, Omnics, Echo, Bastion, and hopefully Orisa.  

Anyways, TLDR: Zarya is going to join the Recalled Overwatch to fight Talon. She will also have good character development due to her working with Omnics.

Can't believe I haven't done this yet but MW!New Blood's, let's go. Also I'm leaving Cassidy and Zarya last cause I've already talked about MW!Cassidy and Zarya already has a skin.

Anyway here we go;

Honestly Hana is easy for me to do as I already know why she would become a villain and join Talon. Hana was a gamer and a teenager when she was chosen for MEKA, so all you really need to do for her is make her less loyal to her country and more angry that she was cheated out of her teenage years. You could also probably add D.Mon and/or Dae-hyun getting injured or killed in a mission and bam, you got MW!D.Va. Personality wise I think she'd still be like she is in canon, except a lot crueler. I also think that in this universe she would have seeked Cassidy out to join Talon instead of the other way around. I also think that her and MW!Cassidy would have the same bitter outlook of their past and attitude towards the people involved with that past.

Pharah is probably the only MW!New Blood character I see not joining Talon and maybe even still joining Overwatch, mainly because the opposite of Fareeha wouldn't really be evil, the opposite of Fareeha would be a version of her who never wanted to be like her mother. Who despised what her mother did and everything she stood for, I honestly see this version of Pharah being very similar to canon Baptiste, except maybe a little more morally corrupt. In all honesty I could also see a MW!Pharah running a gang, maybe she takes over this worlds Deadlock gang? It would fit with the biker theme that Pharah already has in canon. I also think she would have taken her father's last name.

Baptiste, I honestly think there are two ways you can go with his character. One is that he joined Overwatch first but then left for Talon, probably having a similar storyline the Reaper in that regard, or he joined Talon and just... never left. Honestly I think this depends on what they do with MW!Sombra, but looking at the sprays and stuff I think they are putting her in a similar situation to Cassidy, meaning she was never a part of Talon. So the first option is most likely and the most interesting if we put MW!Mauga into the mix as always being an OW agent too. Basically there would be so much drama. Anyway I think MW!Baptiste's personality would mostly stay the same as canon, just with an evil twist on it. Also unlike with Cassidy I consider Baptiste's Scorpion skin as his Mirrorwatch skin cause it's a cool skin and actually fits the theme. I hate that Longhorn skin sm

Zarya, Zarya is the only one who has an offical mirrorwatch skin so I'll be looking into that for her characterisation. In Zarya's skin she has prominent veins on her arm which implies that she was undergone augmentation, most likely to make herself stronger. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if it was Vengeance. I think this version of Zarya either never became a soldier or put her own morals aside to be a soldier. Either way I think this version of Zarya never grew out of that blind loyalty that Zarya initially had, so maybe the reason Zarya is with Talon in this universe is because Katya Volskaya is with Talon in this universe?

I've already talked about MW!Cassidy so this will be a general thing. I do genuinly think that the reversed version of Cassidy would be an elite Talon member, Angela's second-in-command, someone who doesn't believe people can change for the better and constantly runs from his past instead of learning from. I also believe that this version of Cassidy would hold grudges and let his personal feelings get in the way of some missions. I think he'd be a gambling type, taking risks he knows he can handle, but he'd be less adaptable then the Cassidy in canon.

🔒Katya won't tease her s/o about their height, most of the time she will find endearing, especially when they are playing with her daughter

🔒They're a little bit taller but in a few years, who knows?

🔒It begins to be especially funny when Aleksandra hangs out with them

🔒There's this height gap that always bring a smile on Katya

🔒Aleksandra doesn't hesitate to make fun a bit of their height, always asking if they're eating enough but that's it, if it's a sensible topic, she makes sure to not poke fun at them

🔒Plus being war buddies, she's aware that they could easily take down multiple enemies if they wanted to

🔒Katya knows it well too, she saw them taking care multiple times of people easily twice their height

🔒They don't care too much if Katya teases them about their height, even if she rarely does it, but they will retaliate if someone else does it too many times

🔒And as said before, they do it with ease unless it's Aleksandra, they can barely budge her
