There aren't too many freeways around here; It seems that people decided long ago to design their life not around commuting...
This is the main freeway going to the airport - and to Sweden...

Albert Gottschalk (July 3, 1866 - 1906) was a Danish painter who was inspired by French landscape artists, and later became a student of P.S. Krøyer. He was friends with poets and painters of the early modern breakthrough in Danish arts, but not appreciated by a contemporary audience, who saw his works as rough and unfinished.

The meaning of it all is unfolding right under our noses, all the time, but we can't see it. We don't pay any attention. We were taught from childhood to avert our gaze, lest we be considered fools. So now we seem to live in some kind of collective trance, lost in a daze. The likes of which have probably never before been witnessed in history. We feel the gaping emptiness and meaninglessness of our condition in the depths of our psyches. But, like a desperate man thrashing about in quicksand, our reactions only make things worse: we chase more fictitious goals and accumulate more fictitious stuff, precisely the things that distract us further from watching what is really happening. And, when we finally realize the senselessness of such reactions, we turn to 'gurus' doling out pill-form answers instead of paying attention to life, the only authentic teacher, who is constantly speaking to us. There is no literal shortcut to whatever it is that the metaphor of life is trying to convey. There is no literal truth. The meaning of it all cannot be communicated directly. There are no secret answers spelled out in words in some rare old book. The metaphor is the only way to the answers, if only we have patience and pay attention. Look around: what is life trying to say?

The fundamental absence of a logical bridge to connect quantities to qualities, caused by the abandonment of the semantic reference that underpinned the meaning of the quantities to begin with, is the hard problem. The premises of mainstream Physicalism are such that, in order for quantities to have meaning, qualities need to preexist them. But when Physicalism then tries to account for the qualities in terms of the quantities, the latter must preexist the former and thus become literally meaningless. Nothing can be deduced in principle from meaningless things, and that’s the hard problem right there.

Theodor Philipsen (1840 - 1920) was an animal, nature and landscape painter who had studied at the Academy under Vermehren, and then fell in love with French Impressionism at a rather mature age, instantly setting about learning the new techniques, among others from Gauguin who was in Copenhagen at the time.

"The contents of perception—the objects, shapes, and events we see around us—are mere ‘icons’ in the ‘graphical user-interface’ entailed by the screen of perception.
Reality, as it is in itself, stands to be as different from what you perceive as the clouds in the sky are different from the dial indications on an airplane’s dashboard. Taking the contents of perception for reality is as silly a mistake as a pilot who looks at his dashboard and declares it to be the sky outside.
‘Physicality’ in the colloquial sense—i.e., the contents of perception—is an internal cognitive representation of reality, which we create ourselves.
The states of the real world lie ‘behind’ and ‘beyond’ physicality just as the sky lies behind and beyond the airplane’s dashboard.
The behavior of the dashboard is correlated, by construction, with the salient parameters of the sky outside, insofar as it represents—in an encoded form—the states of the sky.
The only physical world there is is the ‘physical’ world on the screen of perception; there is no underlying, purely quantitative, abstract physical world with standalone existence.
There is still a sky when no airplanes are flying around making measurements. Without airplane sensors, there just aren’t any dashboard representations of the sky. But the sky itself—unmeasured—is still there. In exactly the same way, when we don’t measure the real, external world, there is no ‘physical’ world; for the ‘physical’ world—as displayed on the screen of perception—is but an internal representation of our measurements of the real world.
Nonetheless, the real, nonphysical world is still there, regardless."
