sorry to my star wars/marvel followers but i just need to talk about A Quiet Place: Day One for a minute because i feel like it’s one of the first mainstream “end of the world” movies that taps into the potential storylines of people with chronic illness/pain. like one of my first thoughts anytime i watch a movie where infrastructure collapses and transportation goes out i run through a mental list of pharmacies in my area and think about which ones i could reach on foot within a day. or how obstacles that just inconvenience other travelers could fully stop me from getting my prescription. i worry about how different pharmacies are organized and if they’d have enough of my specific medication to get me through however long it takes for the world to come back, if it ever does. Lupita acted that feeling so well, and her outlook on the apocalypse was so different than any other character i’d seen because Sam already knew she was dying, and she was going to die whether or not the creatures came. so she’s not worried about getting to safety or trying to rebuild a life, because she’s been preparing to leave life behind for years now. she just wants to be in her home neighborhood in places with good memories and good food, and go out on her own terms instead of waiting for the disease to catch up to her. she couldn’t just do that before the arrival, though, but she can once what was left of her life collapses and she knows everything she loves (Frodo, memories of her father, her poetry) is safe with someone she trusts. it’s such a reverse plot to the usual apocalypse where everyone’s fighting for long-term survival and trying to rebuild what they lost, while Sam takes her losses in stride and slowly relinquishes her important belongings to Eric so she can die in peace. god it’s just such a genius reversal of the usual fight-for-your-life storyline with huge untapped potential that i hope inspires other movies to explore similar plots because there’s so many directions a writer could take with a chronically ill character in an apocalyptic situation, and i would love to see a horror/scifi subgenre of people with chronic illness in survival situations. okay that’s all.

"what have you done today"
Well I wanted to train my linework (I'm not an artist so idk why)
So I put on d20 while I do lines
The they talked about the into the woods play
And I was like "I've only seen the movie maybe I should watch the play"
So I went on YouTube
And saw a recommended video of Kate and Anthony
So I watched it
Then saw "pride and prejudice but everything is explained by John Mulaney"
So I watched it
Then I wondered if John Mulaney was problematic or if I was mixing him with another highly memeable brown hair comedian
I went to look for the info, didn't see a "Controversy" section on Wikipedia, thought it was a great start. Went to political view and just died laughing cause I learnt that Joe Biden's wife is named Jill. And a married couple named Joe and Jill is hilarious
So I went to look John Mulaney problematic but when typing it "John Mulaney Porstate exam" was a suggested search
That I search and ofc it's a stand up thing
So I watched it
It was a bit funny I closed the page
Look if he was problematic (he did a show with a renown transphobe apparently)
And I started closing tabs
Found my pride and prejudice video again
Finished it, it was very funny
Saw the YouTube search bar "into"
Found the original cast play absolutely immediately
STEPHEN SONDHEIM? The d20 character?
Started looking what play this man wrote
Jesus he made a lot
I wonder how many got a glee version
Quickly gave up that search by getting lost in the west side story Wikipedia page
Shakespeare was married to Anne Hathaway which is very funny
Our Anne Hathaway was my age when she played in the devil wears prada
Thought about the fact that both Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep were in into the wood and the devil wears prada
I wondered how many movies they did together, 3, those two plus the return of Mary Poppins
Other actors/actress she did 3 movies with (Emily Blunt) : Amy Adams, John Krasinki, Jason Segel
The actors/actress Meryl streep worked the more with: Mamie Gummer, Kevin Kline, Margo Martindale, John Rothman and Stanley Tucci
Oooh Mamie is her daughter
Nepotisme comes from the word "nipote" which is Italian for Nephew
Just learnt the concept of Clientélisme, don't know if there's an English word
Closed tabs
Omg Saturday Night Fever and Pulp fiction are not the same movie
It's been an hour and half and my dad asked what I did. Well. Nothing and everything.

The fall guy
👍🏽
If you cast Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling as a couple, you know two of the most charming and funny working actors, you can't shift your focus to anything else. They had me giggling and kicking my feet.
I get they wanted to honor stun actors, which they totally deserve btw, but there were too many things happening at once.
The movie was fun but it was too convoluted. They should have committed to a rom-com or an action movie. It felt like they were doing too much, but again it's a David Litch movie why would I expect anything different than a mess
Granted that I had fun and I love that everybody got an action sequence to shine. I can't stop thinking about these characters.
I'll give it 3,5/5 because Ryan and Emily, Emily action sequence, Emily singing, Emily's wardrobe, just Emily Blunt.
She is so badass and funny.

And usually, as I finish a Emily Blunt movie I'm asking John Krasinki Can you fight?

It depends on the couple. There have been hollywood couples who do/did like working together and do many projects together.
Paul Newman / joanna woodward
Geena rowlands/ john cassavetes
Penelope cruz / javier bardem
Warren beaty / annette benning ( to be fair his relationship with diane keaton soured b/c of the film reds)
emily blunt / john krasinki
And the list goes on.
It depends how much they want to separate their relationship with their work. tom and zendaya seem to like working with each other and like to be honest with each other when talking about their performances so criticism might mot cause of fissure if they do work together.
But I see zendaya or tom directing one another some time down the line (if there still together) or have joint investement in a production company but I dont think they want to act in things together outside of spiderman but who knows.
Yes, you're right Anon, it might just depend on the couple. 😊
I could def see Tom and Z having amaaaazing chemistry onscreen together in a film outside of Spiderman (they have chemistry in the franchise). I won't hold my breath though lol.
I def see either one of them directing smthg in the future too! 😁

I used to be a John Krasinki fan. I followed him on Twitter during the pandemic when he would post a good news broadcast. I liked when he included his wife, displaying real affection between the couple. But his choice for People’s sexiest man leaves me with a sour taste in my mouth.
This past year he appeared in a couple of heavily played tv commercials for the Canadian cell phone company Rogers, a company that has a big footprint in sports entertainment (as an owner and sponsor).
The commercials are controversial because the ad company that made them has been in a labour dispute with the Canadian actor’s union that has limited opportunities for them to work. Other American actors have declined commercial work with the company in support of the Canadian union. Krasinski didn’t. It’s been brought up in Canada but Rogers, the ad company and Krasinski haven’t commented. Based on the extensive air play, and the speculation of how much he may have been paid it’s bothered a lot of people that they won’t treat Canadian actors fairly but will bring in an outside actor with no connection to the country.
I wish he would explain why he didn’t support the Canadian actor’s union. Or maybe even apologize for being unaware of the issue. So I’ll be filtering the tags for a while on this year’s People Magazine’s sexiest man because he’s not that for me. By doing those commercials his previous appeal is gone and I’m not sure I’ll ever watch him in anything again.
Sorry, don’t @ me to explain otherwise. If you want to gush over him, go ahead and do your thing. I just wanted you to be aware that another nice guy maybe isn’t so nice after all. I’m only posting information that doesn’t seem to be known outside of Canada. That’s all. 🤷♀️

Random Kang the Conqueror facts before the Ant Man movie. Kang the Conqueror aka Nathaniel Richards, Iron Lad, Rama-Tut(Egyptian god, moon knight related), Scarlet Centurion and Immortus (older Kang)
Kang the Conqueror is originally from the 31st century(earth-6311) while Ant Man is earth 616, so time traveller(all of u probably know that alr)
He already appeared in Loki, but the one in Loki is actually, as canon as comics can be. Immortus, Immortus is the older version of Kang, who has grown old of conquering.
*probably* the descendant of Reed Richards, that noodle dude at Doctor Strange played by John Krasinki himself, Fantastic four member that has no bones, Mr Fantastic.
Already appeared in Fantastic four 2005, DSMOM and the 2015 one (let's be honest, no one watches the 2015 one, it was more flop than the 2005 one and it's cause I actually liked the 2005 one)
Reed is also said to be super super smart, so yeah. You guessed it. It's in the genes.
BUT
Kang is also rumored to have some sort of connection with Mr.Doom, haven't appeared on any movies yet but in the comics, he is the main antagonist of the Avengers and Fantastic Four.
And since Kang is from way back at the future, his idol as a kid, obviously, is Mr Tony Stark. And as you all know, Tony Stark found the multiverse thing and Kang just continued his legacy(yes, he is that smart!)
It's gone to the point where his other alias is actually Iron Lad. He has the role of iron man in the Young Avengers comic.
So in general, Kang's a real smart guy, and this movie IS about Ant Man, our lovely Scott Lang. But multiverse is literally invented by Kang(found by Tony), and that's why he was at the statue at the Loki series, Immortus's(old Kang) masters are the Time Keepers themselves.
There is so so much to unfold, I couldn't possibly fit it all in one blog. Idk if I'll do more but I think I've posted all the important things(and some bonus stuff as well) needed for the Ant Man.
Hopefully this covers our Kang knowledge before Ant Man, so we can be prepared!
(if you guys need any breakdowns for the other Kang variants, feel free to message me or comment. I've got knowledge now idk what to do with it)

Just watched the new Deadpool movie. I didn't like the first two that much but I did like this one. The movies have always been good action flicks, and I consider David Leitch to be the greatest working action director, but I just didn't find them as funny as they tried to be.
I will give these movies their props on one thing, though. Even though Ryan Reynolds' whole public persona is based about being the most insufferably irony poisoned person imaginable, these movie managed to balance out the constant irreverent humor by also being genuinely earnest and sentimental in a way that the Whedon/Waikiki/Gunn movies can't pull off as well. Those movies have such a big distinction between "funny scenes" and "heartfelt scenes" that they might as well be flipping a big Frankenstein switch back and forth for two hours. The Deadpool movies are good at sprinkling in jokes during the serious moments and showing hints of emotional vulnerability during the comedic moments.
Spoilers below the cut
This new movie was also very cameo-heavy, which I'm normally not a fan of. I'm not going to give a standing ovation in the theater just because a movie is showing me something I already recognize, but I can still appreciate it if a movie does it well. For the first ten years the big MCU team up movies felt like they earned it by building up to each huge crossover, but since then they've just been throwing spaghetti against the wall. "Starfox and Pip the Troll are here. And here's Patrick Stewart back as Professor X. Remember when people online wanted John Krasinki to play Reed Richards? Well he's here too." I didn't see the Flash movie (why the hell would I?) but from what I heard it has a bunch of that too, like deepfake Christopher Reeves or Nick Cage from that one Superman movie which didn't even get made.
Well I think Deadpool pulled off it's cameos pretty well for a similar reason to the Avengers movies. The Fox Marvel movies were never intended to build up to a big crossover climax like the MCU movies were, but this movie still managed to tie together the framework those movies created in a satisfying way. Back in the 2000s Fox would just pick one of their IPs at random and pump out as many movies as it took to stop being profitable, then axe it and move on to the next one. And that's just how the movie industry works, that's hollywood baby. But compared to the MCU, where even side characters will make recurring appearances across different movies/shows, it does feel like those movies and those characters were just kind of tossed into the garbage to be forgotten. Including the character of Deadpool. Despite his popularity with comic readers, he would've just been a one-off character in a terrible Xman prequel if Ryan Reynolds hadn't spent more than a decade getting his passion project Deadpool movie made.
So with all of that, it felt kind of fitting that this was the movie to introduce the Fox IP characters into the MCU, and that the way they did it was by bringing back all these different characters that would've been recurring MCU characters but who instead have been forgotten for ~20 years. Like, I didn't particularly enjoy Elektra, but I also don't think that character deserves to be forgotten while Darcy Lewis gets to keep popping back up every few years. This movie was a good send off to that whole era of movies. So for that reason I actually liked the cameos in this movie, and I wouldn't have hated it if Nick Cage or Thomas Jane had shown up too.
#I guess I should tag this with the movie name right? That's a thing people do?#deadpool and wolverine

Summer 2024 Movie Reviews
So, imo opinion, while the BO of the summer movie season has been pretty ordinary until Bad Boys 4 and Inside Out 2, I have to say that I think the quality of the summer movies have been pretty good.
The Fall Guy was honestly a lot of fun. I feel bad this film has flopped but Gosling and Blunt were excellent and Gosling's comic timing was pitch perfection. Great action and a fun mystery story made for a really entertaining movie. An 8/10 for me.
IF was another winner from John Krasinski. A little on the slower side, but the second half of the film is a real winner emotionally, even if the final twist was relatively predictable. Reynolds takes a back seat, allowing Cailey Fleming to drive the film with both him and Krasinki providing solid support, along with a host of celebrity voices for all the IFs, with Steve Carrell's Blue being the adorable standout. A 7/10 for me.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was a film that released far too removed from Fury Road. Its a really well made film, with great vehicular action set pieces, but it really is a companion peace to Fury Road and should have been released within a few years of that. Hemsworth arguably delivers his best performance, stealing the show, with Anya Taylor-Joy and Alyla Browne both impressive as Furiosa. Film falls into the category of films that probably wasn't really necessary, but was still damn entertaining. A 7.5/10.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes was a worthy successor the excellent Apes trilogy. These films are much better than they had any right to be, somehow able to make genuinely thoughtful movies. This one was on the slower side, and the human aspect of the story sometimes takes too much time, but I appreciated how they showed the positive and negative impact of Caesar and the world of this movie is fascinating. Noa was a likable lead. Idk if they would follow this character though, as compared to Caesar, who was the leader of the Apes. Curious to see where this franchise goes next. A 7/10.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die continues the winning run of the Bad Boys franchise. It may be controversial to say this, but I have enjoyed Bad Boys 3 and 4 more than the first 2. I feel they are better constructed movies and the more matured characters mean that there is less yelling at each other constantly. I didn't completely get the villain motivations in this movie, but I thought it was hilarious. Like with the last film, Lawrence carries the humor and Smith handles the drama. Lawrence is a riot in this movie and Smith continues to be one of the few stars who just oozes movie star charisma. Well support by the supporting cast. A 8/10.
Inside Out 2 is another winner for Pixar. I loved last year's Elemental, and I have generally thought the recent Pixar run has been pretty good, having liked Luca, Turning Red, Onward, and Soul. Lightyear was also decent thought relatively disappointing. But Inside Out is still a return to form, while not a top tier Pixar film, which I reserve for the Toy Story films, Finding Nemo, Up, The Incredibles, and the first Inside Out, but it is very much in the top of the second tier. It doesn't have the emotional gut wrenching scenes that the first one had with Bing Bong and the climax, but it has a strong message and impactful climax. Best film of the summer so far. An 8.5/10.
All in all, summer has been good quality wise. Wish Furiosa and The Fall Guy had done better at the BO. IF and KOTPOTA have done decently and honestly, The Fall Guy should have had a slightly lower budget because a non IP action movie making around $90 million domestic is not bad. Furiosa just was a film made way too late. It needed to pick up on Fury Road's popularity but 9 years later, no one really cared, despite it being a good movie. Mad Max is too niche of a franchise for gaps like that. Bad Boys 4 seems to be doing well and IO2 seems to be a monster opener.
