Like Jerry Dandridge in the first film, Regine Dandridge in Fright Night Part II transforms into a bat monster in some scenes. This was achieved as both a large puppet for closeup sequences, based on sculpts by Brian Wade, and a smaller stopmotion model (as seen in the third image) for distance shots that was animated by Justin Kohn.

Aca Top 10: Hits of 2019 — VoicePlay music video
youtube
It had been a while since their last "Aca Top 10" countdown, and even longer since their previous celebration of recent hit songs, so VoicePlay decided to close out 2019 with a medley featuring the year's biggest bangers.
Details:
title: Aca Top 10 – Hits of 2019
original songs / performers: "Good As Hell" by Lizzo ; [0:29] "I Don't Care" by Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber; [0:48] "Me!" by Taylor Swift, feat. Brendon Urie; [1:08] "7 Rings" by Ariana Grande; [1:34] "Memories" by Maroon 5; [1:54] "Someone You Loved" by Lewis Capaldi; [2:16] "Sucker" by the Jonas Brothers; [2:30] "Bad Guy" by Billie Eilish; [2:44] "Señorita" by Shawn Mendes & Camila Caballo; [3:17] "Circles" by Post Malone; [3:47] "Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X & Billy Ray Cyrus

My favorite bits:
the little slides Earl puts on the beginning of ♫ "Ooh, child!" ♫ and ♫ "Yeees, Lord!" ♫
Eli and J.None following the direction to ♫ "dust your shoulders off" ♫
Geoff's subharmonic drop at the end of ♫ ⇘ "out the dooo-ooo-OOOOR" ⇘ ♫
J's smooth tone for the melody in "I Don't Care"
the high fanfare Earl gives to the transition
El's clear timbre on the lead for "7 Rings"
Layne's coquettish expression and J.None's finger twiddle to illustrate ♫ "getting in trouble" ♫
making it rain drizzle, and Geoff's confused expression when one of the bills lands in his lap 💸
the lovely three-part harmony on ♫ "write my own checks like I write what I sing" ♫
Layne joining in on the harmonies for "Memories" and "Someone You Loved"
Earl getting softer as he looks at suddenly melodramatic Eli in confusion 🤔
J.None showing off his falsetto at the beginning of "Sucker"
the stacatto repetition of ♫ "you you you" ♫
all the vocal antics as they bounce through "Bad Guy"
the combination of bouncy descending bass line and woodblock sounds Geoff and Layne do in "Señorita"
J.None indugling in a little cha-cha groove during the chorus 🕺
Earl's incredible tremolo in "Circles" (How does he DO that?!)
Eli slipping in a quick Ennio Morricone western movie sting
putting a little extra twang into their "Old Town Road" vocals
that fabulous descending riff on the second half of ♫ "guitar" ♫
return of the animated carrot for horsey Layne 🥕 🐎
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
○ The guys had previously recorded other versions of several of these songs, one together, and the rest with different performers.
"Bad Guy" was included in VoicePlay's "Billie Eilish in 3 Minutes" medley that was part of their spooky season offerings for the year.
It was also covered by PattyCake's incarnation of Maleficent to coincide with the release of Disney's live-action film sequel.
J.None had filmed multiple edutainment parodies with his friend Nikita for her JamSchooled series that were released both before and after this one. "7 Rings" became a lesson about money; "Old Town Road" turned into a tutorial on skeletal anatomy; and "Señorita" morphed into a rundown of ecosystems.
○ Lizzo's video for "Good As Hell" celebrates her history as a flute player in the school marching band. The members of VoicePlay are talented insturmentalists in their own rights.
Layne has been playing violin since he was four years old, primarily studying the Suzuki method, and was a member of the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra. He also learned a bit of piano from his mom, and knows enough drum kit technique to convincingly mime while he beatboxes.
Geoff has played piano since middle school, studying both classical and jazz techniques. He also knows a little guitar, and learned to play the harmonica for a stint in the Blues Brothers show at Universal Studios.
Earl played trumpet and french horn through middle school and high school band.
Eli plays a bit of both piano and guitar, some of which he honed during his days in various rock bands.
J.None plays a number of instruments "passably" but doesn't consider himself proficient in any of them. They include piano, violin, guitar, accordion, saxophone, and clarinet.
○ The main melody of "Memories" contains a very recognizable portion of Pachelbel's "Canon in D", which (surprisingly) hasn't yet been included in any of VoicePlay's classical pieces or mashups.

Joel Fletcher Pt. 2
Joel Fletcher, the unit still photographer of The Nightmare Before Christmas, writes about his incident on animating a scene from the movie. He describes how his difficulties led to meeting Tim Burton, and it just gives us fans one of the many stories of how much effort was put into making this movie and how hard the work was for it. I never thought that scene would’ve been so hard to animate - but now we know!
Joel also provides images of some of the other crew members of Nightmare, though a little more unknown compared to big faces like Elfman, Burton, and Selick.
((As said before, these images were taken from Joel Fletcher’s website. Please click there and read his story and help spread the source of these other animators!))

Girls are taught a lot of stuff growing up. If a guy punches you he likes you. Never try to trim your own bangs and someday you will meet a wonderful guy and get your very own happy ending. Every movie we see, every story we're told implores us to wait for it, the third act twist, the unexpected declaration of love, the exception to the rule. But sometimes we're so focused on finding our happy ending we don't learn how to read the signs. How to tell from the ones who want us and the ones who don't, the ones who will stay and the ones who will leave.

Quote
Stewart is captivating in a challenging role that requires her to juggle several identities at once. While developing a romance with a guy she meets in her day job (“It Comes at Night” breakout Kelvin Harrison Jr.), Knoop also falls in love with Eva, inadvertently constructing a love triangle that puts her fluid sexuality to a complicated test. The meta qualities of watching Stewart tackle this as she moves further away from the straight-laced roles that defined her career before she came out sit well with a movie about a thorny coming out process. (The movie’s meta qualities extend to the stunt casting of Courtney Love, who was hoodwinked by Albert herself, in a fleeting supporting role.) Kelly’s screenplay is especially adroit at investing the fresh desires that Knoop uncovers in the midst of her role playing, and why she struggles to let it go. Arguing with her boyfriend about why she should keep up with the game, he tells her, “You sound like an addict.” At its best, “Jeremiah Terminator LeRoy” magnifies the impulse behind this obsessive tendency to embrace a personality beyond one’s self.

Synopsis / Plot
The complex relationship of Maleficent and Aurora continues to be explored as they face new threats to the magical land of the Moors.
Critics' reviews
"Once again, this tale of 'Maleficent' is more of an atmospheric and fluid exercise, more interested in the fairytale universe it inhabits than the sometimes predictable story it's telling"  Rosie Knight: IGN
"[It] has some spectacle but only in service of a half-baked storyline, which makes no sense even on the surface, and does a massive disservice to the characters (…) Rating: ★½ (out of 5)" William Bibbiani: Bloody Disgusting
"Embrace the imagery and 'Mistress of Evil' almost works on its own terms, but anyone grasping for the bigger picture will find that it often evaporates under scrutiny." Eric Kohn: IndieWire
"With Maleficent no longer the villain of her own tale, this mistitled sequel reduces the character to a stylish pawn in a tacky 'Game of Thrones' ripoff." Peter Debruge: Variety
"Jolie’s magnetism (...) is why these 'Maleficent' movies work. She fits the character as well as her endless cycle of evolving costumes.(…) Rating: ★★★ (out of 4)" Brian Truitt: USA Today
"If Maleficent didn't already exist, we may have had to invent her for Angelina Jolie. (...) 'Maleficent: 'Mistress of Evil‘s script, sadly, is another story" Leah Greenblatt: Entertainment Weekly
"The weirdest “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” remake you’ve ever seen. (...) isn’t a great movie (...)
But it’s also not without its pleasures." Justin Chang: Los Angeles Times

YTL Headquarters Kuala Lumpur
YTL Headquarters Kuala Lumpur Building Design, Malaysia Office Development
YTL Headquarters Kuala Lumpur Building
25 Nov 2020
YTL Corporation Berhad Headquarters Kuala Lumpur News
Interior Design: MOD, Architects
Photography David Yeow Photography
Location: 205 Jalan Bukit Bintang, 55100 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
“UNIFYING PRESENCE”
Design brief: To unify
YTL Corporation Berhad, a large Malaysian infrastructure conglomerate founded in 1955, grew from a small construction firm into a global infrastructure company spanning oil & gas, cement, construction, property development and hotels.
Previously occupying various offices in different locations, this YTL Headquarters located in Central Kuala Lumper (along Jalan Bukit Bintang) brings together for the first time, the entire suite of YTL departments (numbering more than a dozen, comprising 1000 staff members), each of which have developed their own culture and operations.
The brief for MOD (Ministry of Design)was to design the public areas shared by these departments, i.e. Ground Floor lobby and levels 8-10, and present a unified brand identity under one roof. As such, MOD sought to create a series of choreographed spatial experiences which aim to balance YTL’s legacy of corporate professionalism with a future-forward attitude that embraces change.
Design concept: To respect legacy and infuse future-forwardness
There are 2 main public area zones, the Ground Floor lobby, and 3 upper floors (levels 8-10) which comprises a host of collective meeting zones, and a cafe.
At the Ground Floor, visitors are greeted by a vertically cavernous lobby which spans more than 25-meters in height (7 floors). The design challenge for MOD, was how to enhance the majestic quality of the space, yet not dwarf the human scale and provide a welcoming entrance. As such, the lobby is a study in proportion, light control and a disciplined use of materials. The soaring space has been designed to capture the rays of light in the daytime, and glow like a lantern in the evening.
MOD designed the marble-clad columns such that its rhythm is denser and more grounded at the bottom, yet getting lighter towards the top, giving the impression of ascending lightness. MOD inserted horizontal striations and ridges using bronze accents, in the continuing pattern of white Bugatsa Marble, to provide visual relief rather than a continuous ascension to the top.
A glittering art installation hovers like a cloud over a series of pavilion niches, which provide a sense of human scale in this vast space. MOD designed the seating areas as architectural pavilion niches rather than mere decorative benches. These seating areas provide iconic Barcelona Couches for visitors to sit on and admire the lobby’s majestic cavernous quality, and the pavilion niches are also designed in the same restrained material palette, featuring bronze bead blast metal trims for consistency.
After a visitor signs in at the reception desk and proceeds past the turnstiles, they would indicate the destination floor number at the lift call button area before entering the lift lobby (incorporating a “destination-dispatching” elevator system). Design-wise, while MOD wanted to keep the entrance experience entirely symmetrical from the drop-off to the lift car, there was an existing stair core which prevents this symmetry; in response, MOD created a bronze-clad “portal” to anchor the lift portal and draw a visitor’s eyes towards that lift lobby when he enters the main lobby. The lift lobby is accented with the same bronze metal as the main lobby for a consistently disciplined material palette.
Levels 8 to 10 comprise a café, multiple types of open & closed meeting spaces and a 122-pax function room. This public zone is conceived to be an extension of the lobby area, and is conceptualized to be the point of interface between YTL staff and external visitors and consultants.
The “heart” of L8 is the handsome grey granite café counter with bronze shelves and oak timber ceilings and walls. Serving up freshly baked confectionary as well as aromatic espressos, this café counter is designed with a rough-edged split-face granite on its vertical surfaces and a smooth black sesame polished granite for the horizontal counter.
To introduce connectivity between Levels 8 and 9, MOD introduced a void and a feature spiral stair, designing an arresting and dynamic cage-like stair with vertical rods made of powdercoated bronze metal, sitting on a bed of black gravel. A visitor is meant to feel a sense of timeless elegance and beautifully crafted materiality whilst climbing the stair, with one hand on the elegant leather handrails.
On all three levels 8, 9, and 10, MOD has created a myriad of meeting space types to suit a variety of small to large gatherings, private to non-private. These spaces range from casual communal tables, open discussion areas, hot-desk / banquette seating / booth seating areas, to semi-enclosed meeting rooms, acoustically private rooms, a VIP room and a large multi-function meeting area that can seat 122 persons.
These spaces are designed with a warm and sophisticated palette, featuring warm oak timber for the walls and ceilings, silver mink marble flooring, and black powder-coated metal trims for lighting fixtures. The café, banquette and booth seating are upholstered in German-based innovative fabric from Saum & Viebahn whose “magic” range features high quality fabrics built for high-usage and easy maintenance.
The tables feature either striking black Nero Marquina marble or elegant white Calacatta marble. The enclosed meeting rooms feature handsome carpet flooring from the Net Effect Collection, elegant brown leather chairs and timber tables.

Headquartered in Singapore, with offices in Beijing and Kuala Lumpur, MOD was declared a “Rising Star of Architecture” by the Monocle Singapore Survey 2010 and “Designer of the Year” by the International Design Awards, USA 2010. Our recent portfolio includes VUE Hotel Houhai Beijing (Winner of 13 international awards including Best Emerging Concept, Gold Key NYC 2018), Race Robotics Laboratory (Winner of 12 international awards including IIDA USA Design of the Year 2018), COO Sociatel, Loke Thye Kee Residences, 100PP Office Building, Durasafe Gallery (Red Dot 2014 Winner) and Eco Layer Gallery.
Created by Colin Seah to question convention and redefine the spaces, forms and experiences that surround us, MOD’s explorations are created amidst a democratic studio-like’ atmosphere and progress seamlessly between form, site, object and space. At MOD, we provide our clients services that transcend mere design skill sets or technical prowess.
We prefer to start far upstream and instead of merely designing solutions, we design holistic experiences. The resultant design thinking then translates into a wide variety of possible downstream design applications and media: be it architecture, product design, interior architecture, branding, graphics, landscape or even the weaving of diverse disciplines into a single project.
“We love to question where the inherent potential in contemporary design lies, and then to disturb the ways they are created or perceived, redefining the world around us in relevant and innovative ways, project by project. This, we declare, is real change, not change for the sake of novelty.
Fortified with these aspirations, we begin each distinct project anew by seeking to do 2 things: to draw deeply from the context surrounding each project, but also to dream freely so that we might transcend mere reality and convention. Each MOD project endeavours to be delightfully surprising but yet relevant, distinctly local but still globally appealing.”

Camp Day 3 News & Notes
Today was the last day without games until October for Major League Baseball. That’s always an exciting day after a terrible winter in Minnesota. Here are some news and notes on Day 3:
Photo Day was today, so it was an early day for photographers like Brace Hemmelgarn.
Twins pitchers on the list for Thursday are Stephen Gonsalves, Zack Littell, Myles Jaye, Lewis Thorpe, Michael Kohn, and Jake Reed. Don’t miss Gonsalves, Littlell, and Thorpe!
Justin Morneau arrived in camp today and said it would be weird to see Joe Mauer in anything different than a Twins uniform next year.
Brian Dozier is back in camp after a couple days of passing a kidney stone.
The Twins announced the lineup for Thursday’s game, which I’ll have after this post.
The Marlins signed outfielder Cameron Maybin after their fire sale.
That’s all folks. Less than 24 hours until games begin and baseball is officially back!
