At the end of the world / Or the last thing I see / You are never coming home, never coming home
Prompt from @tuna-f-b: Do you still do request? If yes and angst is o.k: what would happend i all the bats died? Like how would the hero community react. The supers alone. Clark having to deal with losing his best friend(?) and the kids he basically co parented- as well as seeing his sons lose their best friends(?) Specially as ships that would be awesome angst
A/N: I'm not crying you're crying (Also, for those who don't know, Izzy is Duke's canon gf and one of the Robins from We Are Robin)
Words: 2504
TW: Mentions of blood, Major character death, Coping with loss, Self-blame, Mentions of relapse (drugs)
“If you’re watching this, I am either deceased or indefinitely unable to continue my duties as Batman. But the world still needs Batman. Gotham still needs Batman. My son Damian Wayne, if he is an adult, shall inherit my mantle— if not, Dick Grayson will take over until he is. In the event that he, too, is unavailable for any reason, the mantle goes to Tim Drake, after him, to Cassandra Cain, then Duke Thomas, then Stephanie Brown, then Jason Todd, should he accept it.”
In the video recording, Batman pauses, taking a deep breath.
“In the unfortunate event that the entire family is… deceased… I have a list of contingency plans on both the Bat-Computer and the Justice League’s primary databases. Oracle will help you access it, but in her… absence… the password is “a6ghr83kc02m”.”
Then video-Bruce takes off the cowl, his pale blue eyes looking straight into the camera.
“I know I was never the best with feelings. But I would like my children, my allies, and friends to know that I’m proud of you. And to my fellow Justice Leaguers… Diana and Clark, I am truly grateful for your companionship. I would never have made it this far without you. Barry, Arthur, Dinah, J’onn, you’ve all been good friends. Oliver, Hal… you’re not so bad either.”
Bruce turns around, and looks over his shoulder, the shadows of the Batcave making the scene even more dramatic.
“I wish you good luck.”
Then the clip ends.
A shuddering breath leaves Clark.
It’s real.
He’s really… They’re all…
He can’t do this anymore. He turns around and walks out the door, leaving the other core Justice Leaguers staring sombrely at the now-blank screen.
He doesn’t know when he started flying, when he started trying to escape. The walls of the Watchtower seem to be suffocating him, but he has enough sense not to just leave the airlock yet.
Instead he finds a corner by a window, far, far away from the others, where he can see a majestic view of Earth, the moon, and the Sun in perfect sync with each other.
He falls to his knees.
His breathing’s uneven, a tear rolls down his cheeks.
Then he feels a hand on his shoulder— soft, trembling, yet steady.
“Kal,” Diana whispers, sitting on the floor next to him. She doesn’t continue— she isn’t sure what to say.
“They’re all going to die, you know? We’re going to bury all of them. Everyone on Earth, everyone we know.” Clark’s voice trembles, in a way Superman’s never does. “It scares me so much.”
“Kal,” Diana says again, pulling Clark into a hug. “It’s okay. We’ve lost… We’ve lost so many of our friends. It’s okay to be scared. It’s okay to grieve.”
“How are you— how are you so—” Clark can’t form his words properly. He turns to Diana, to see her face tight with grief, eyes misty with unshed tears.
Her voice breaks slightly as she speaks. “I don’t want to believe they’re gone. But… we have to carry on. We’re the Justice League. Our people need us, Kal.”
“So we just go on and on? Forever?” Another tear runs down his cheek. “Ollie, Hal, Dinah, Lois, Jon, they’re all going to… they’re all going to die one day and we just have to… to go on?”
“I’m sorry, but it is the truth,” Diana whispers, her eyes stinging with hot tears. “We must find peace in the fact, right now, that Batman— Bruce, the Robins, they— they were so brave. Brave till the end. And they fell as warriors, defending our world. I’m sure they’ll all reach Elysium.”
“And Dickie, Damian, Jason, Tim, Cass, Duke—” Clark’s voice is hoarse. “They were so young, just kids… I… I know Dick, Jay, Tim, Cass… they were adults, but… they’re gone, they’re gone…”
“They were heroes, like you and me. Don’t forget that.”
“I… I know, I just—” Another shuddering breath escapes Clark. “I just— I…”
“It’s okay,” Her voice is forcefully steady, but with an undertone of heartbreak. “It’s okay…”
Dinah looks around the room, her heart heavy.
Clark has left, Diana’s gone after him— both of them need their space, she knows. They were close to Bruce and the other Bats in a way no one else in this room was.
Was.
The word still weighs down on her.
Hal speaks up finally, breaking the deafening silence. “I always thought he hated me.”
No one replies for a long moment.
“I miss the kids,” Barry says finally, his voice quiet. “They were just… Robin was only 14. The others, even Nightwing, they had… they had their whole lives ahead of them.”
More silence.
“Jason, when he was Robin— do y'all remember? Kid was always my favorite,” Ollie says finally. “Was always so sassy. Roy loves him.”
Loves. Dinah winces, but doesn’t correct him. It’s easier to believe they’re just gone for a little while.
“Bruce was a good man,” Arthur adds. “They all were.”
“Tim was, I believe, the smartest,” J’onn says, somber. “It was his plan that allowed us to save Earth.”
“Damian!” Dinah says suddenly, jumping from her seat. “His… his mother. She shouldn’t have to find out from someone else.”
Everyone freezes, faces tight.
Dinah sighs, looking down. “I’ll do it.”
Then she leaves the room, dragging what feels like a heavy weight tied to her soul. She has to do this.
Roy’s sitting in a corner of his apartment, hugging his knees. All he can think of is Jason.
He’s never coming back.
He can still feel the lingering ‘goodbye’ kiss Jason gave him not two days ago, he can still hear him say, “I’ll be back before you know it, babe.”
He never came back.
He’s dead. Dead— dead dead dead DEAD DEAD—
“Small Red not okay?” A booming voice snaps Roy out of his thoughts. He looks up to see Bizarro’s pale blue skin and cold eyes looming over him. He’s crying. “Red him coming back.”
It takes Roy a second to register that Bizarro speaks backwards. It takes everything in him to not punch him for saying that, for giving him false hope.
He feels something he hasn’t felt in years— feels that whisper in his mind— one hit and it’ll all feel better. Just one hit.
NO! He screams mentally. He feels like bashing his head open.
Instead he lifts his dead eyes to survey the rest of the room— Kori’s on the couch, staring into space. Artemis has a crying Lian in her arms, she’s showing her something— old photos of Jason. Talking, whispering in a broken voice.
No, no he should be the one comforting Lian—
What’s he gonna say?
That— That Jason— That her Papa’s gone forever? That he’s never— he’s never coming back?
No— Jay— Jay deserved so much better, he— he already died once before, he’s been through so much, things were supposed to be better now— not— no, he’s—
Roy feels Bizarro sit beside him, gently patting his arm.
He snaps out of his thoughts again, turning to Jason’s former teammate, his eyes red-rimmed. His voice raw, he whispers, “Jay’s gone…”
Wally’s standing in the Hall of Heroes, staring up at the holographic projection of Dick— he looks so majestic, so mighty, staring ahead with nothing but hope and courage in his eyes.
Nothing like the cold, dead body that Wally held in his arms just two days ago.
He’s surrounded by his teammates, his friends— Kaldur, M’gann, Artemis, Zatanna, L’gann, Garth— yet he feels so alone.
He sees it again— Dick bleeding out it his arms, his wounds so fatal he died before help arrived. Wally’s the fastest man alive, damn it, yet he couldn’t even save his best friend— his boyfriend. He feels the moment when Dick’s breathing stopped, when his body went limp, when his grip on Wally’s hand loosened.
Everyone’s quiet. M’gann’s stress baking again, L’gann by her side. Artemis and Zatanna are sitting together, Garth’s lingering in a corner, and Kaldur’s standing right beside Wally— close enough for comfort but not so close he’s lurking. He’s shaking.
He can still hear it, hear Dick forcing out his last words, telling Wally it’s okay, that he loves him, that it’ll be fine.
It’s not fine. Not without you.
He wants to scream.
He wants to cry, yell, hit something, do anything.
But he can’t move.
So he just stands there, almost as still as the holographic projection of Dick before him.
Kon is left reeling.
Tim… Tim is…
Tim’s dead.
Tim’s really gone.
He thinks, for just a second, that this is how Tim and Cassie must have felt when he and Bart “died”.
Bart is sitting beside him on the couch, leaning on his side, Cassie’s got her head on his lap. Neither of them speak— Bart’s not even fidgeting— they’re all just trying to be there for each other.
The other Titans are up and about, but staying close for comfort. Jaime and Gar are making food for everyone in the kitchen, Raven and Vic have come back to the tower to make sure the others are okay, and he’s sure Karen’s around too, somewhere.
Yet he feels so empty.
Feels nothing at all.
How can he, when his best friend is dead?
Jon hasn’t spoken in a bit. Not when his Mom brought him his favorite soup, not when Grandma and Grandpa showed up to ‘help’ him and Dad through this, not when Krypto plopped down beside him to comfort him.
He hugs the dog close.
Krypto’s technically Kon’s, but Jon’s sure Kon wouldn’t mind if he stole Krypto for a day.
Another sob escapes him, and he buries his head in Krypto’s back. The dog whines, licking Jon’s hand.
He can’t believe Damian’s gone.
Really gone.
And he didn’t know just how much he would miss his friend.
Dinah finds Talia Al Ghul on a building in Metropolis, overlooking the city. Her face is tight with sorrow, but she keeps herself in check, her back straight, head held high.
She already knows, Dinah deduces.
“I… I’m sorry,” Dinah starts, unsure of what to say. She knows, from her experience as a psychologist, that ‘sorry is the last thing a grieving person wants to hear, but she doesn’t have anything else to say.
Talia doesn’t reply for a long time. Then she says, her voice numb, “I should have known, when bringing Damian into this life, that I would also be bringing him amidst the dangers that come with.”
Dinah’s brows furrow. “It’s not your fault. You couldn’t have done anything at all.”
“I should have trained him better, I should have kept him close, I should—” Talia takes a shuddering breath. “I should have never brought him into this life.”
Dinah can’t argue with that— she knows how Damian had come to be, and it… wasn’t the best birth ever.
“Now leave, hero,” Talia says, her voice numb and cold. “Go back to protecting the world. Leave me be.”
Dinah wants to say something better, comfort the woman, but she can’t. So she just turns back, and leaves.
By the time Harper Row makes her way to the Clock Tower, there’s already quite a crowd there— Kate, Renee Montoya, Harley, Ivy, Silena, and Helena Bertinili— they’re crowding around Babs, comforting her. Luke Fox and Isabella Ortiz are at the computer, looking through something.
Harper tries to open her mouth to speak, but she can’t get the words out.
She makes her way over to Luke and Izzy, shoulders hunched.
Just three days ago she’d been hanging out with Duke and Izzy and Cass and Steph— they’d all been so carefree, so happy…
And now…
Once she gets close enough she realizes Izzy’s crying, and immediately wraps her arms around the shorter girl. Harper’s trying to hold back tears of her own, too. She feels Luke putting a hesitant hand on her shoulder, squeezing tight.
No one speaks for a long time, they just stand together, seeking comfort in each other.
Then Babs rolls her wheelchair to the center of the room, wiping at her bloodshot eyes. But when she speaks, she sounds surprisingly steady. She’s compartmentalizing, Harper realizes. Putting away Barbara and bringing Oracle back.
“Gotham needs her heroes, now more than ever,” Oracle says, head held high. “We must honor our friends by doing the one thing they’d have wanted— to keep fighting. Keep Gotham safe.”
She sighs, her face tight to fight away tears. “Luke. Batman’s contingency plan, in the Robins’ absence, was to pass you the mantle of Batman. Do you accept?”
Luke’s eyes grow wide slightly, but he straightens himself, looking away. “I… I accept. Dad isn’t going to be happy, but… Gotham needs Batman.”
“Thank you.” Oracle nods at him. “As per Bruce’s will, all Wayne assets, the Manor, and the Batcave are split between Kate, me, Alfred, and Lucius. I… Lucius and I are still figuring out who’s going to take over Wayne Enterprises, but on the vigilante side, I’ve got a plan.”
She turns to Ivy, Harley, Kate, Silena and Helena. “The Birds of Prey are needed here, now more than ever. Dinah— Black canary has offered to help us with Gotham, too.”
Harley nods, sniffling. Beside her, Ivy speaks up, “The… Most Rogues aren’t happy about this. They’re not rampaging— Bane has fashioned his own version of the Batsuit, he’s going around ‘saving’ people, screaming that Batman never dies. The Joker’s searching for Lazarus Pits and Bruce’s body. Jervis Tetch and Nygma held a get-together yesterday, in the memory of the Bats. I… I think they might help us.”
Harper’s gotta admit, she’s quite surprised about this. Even Babs freezes, taking in this information.
“Gotham needs Robin as much as she needs Batman,” Izzy speaks up from beside her, her voice small but firm. “The Robins can come back, this time you can give us formal training so we can actually help.”
Oracle turns to Luke. “Taking on Robins is your decision, Batman.”
Luke winces at that title— it doesn’t feel like an honor to him, it just feels like an incessant reminder that he’s the last one left. Because his friends are dead. But he nods, anyway, not trusting himself to speak right now.
Then Oracle addresses Harper. “I… would you like to be Batgirl?”
Harper’s heart stops. Memories flash into her head— seeing Steph in the Batgirl costume, seeing Cass in the Batgirl suit, both of whom are now gone.
“N— No,” Harper stutters out, eyes tearful. “I can’t— I’m sorry, Babs. I appreciate the offer, but… Cass was Batgirl. I can’t take her place.”
“I understand.” Babs just nods, lips pursed, misty-eyed. “We will all need to work hand-in-hand until everything settles, we will need to be vigilant. Carry on Batman’s legacy, for as long as we may need to.”
No one speaks again.
They all just let it sink in, hearts heavy.
They’re going to have to do this alone now.

Reasons to watch Justice League: War (2014)
free on tubi
absolute banger start with Dry Humor Hal
"Batman is real????"
once again we bring you speculation of Batman Turned Villain?/Is He Abducting Random Civilians Or Is That Just Parademons?
We have Green Lantern thinking Batman's a cryptid right out of the gate then going "wait you're not just some guy in a bat costume, right?" while Batman gives him a deadpan stare and Green Lantern weeps and also they are in the sewers
Bruce "I make it my business to know" Wayne, for your consideration
Billy Batson conning his way into a football game
Billy Batson being a fan of Victor Stone??? and stealing his jersey
Victor is a nice young gentlemen to everyone except his father, with whom he devolves into Indignant Gremlin and will Break Things watch out
Flash and Victor's dad being friends
poor Barry went and got burritos for EVERYONE and SOMEONE STOLE HIS
Green Lantern and Batman already hate each other's guts
Bruce stole Green Lantern's ring just to be feral and made fun of him for it
✨Utility Belt✨
space cop Green Lantern
Superman's costume is so sexy
testosterone overdose with Green Lantern, Batman, and Superman all in the same scene: 368 dead, 1,590 injured. Obligatory catfight between those three while also there are hostile parademon soldiers flying around everywhere
Bruce stopping Superman in his tracks by saying his name quietly
Clark just staring at Batman for a second, then: "Bruce Wayne??"
"who's Bruce Wayne?" help
Diana publicly coerces a man into admitting that he cross-dresses as her and it makes him feel powerful while standing in the middle of a hostile mob on her way to meet the american president
3 seconds later she decides to ditch the president and go get ice cream
Diana thinks ice cream is The Best
Diana makes friends with Hannah and adopts her on the spot
🚨Flash and Green Lantern bromance!!🚨
"Batman is real????"
Diana is Bloodthirsty.
oops victor got yeeted. maybe he shouldn't have touched that glowing alien space box in his dad's lab
Billy's gonna fight demons in his backyard alone at night with a baseball bat which in no way seems saf--⚡SHAZAM⚡
squad is so lit my dudes
actually they are so cool together
the writers were clearly Clark/Diana shippers because man there was SO MUCH chemistry between those two
Diana gets to stab Darkseid in the eyeball with her sword :3
Barry gets to stab the other eyeball with a crowbar :3
Batman tells Green Lantern he's normal and then disguises himself as a civilian in .002 seconds and promptly hitches a ride on a parademon like he's hailing a fricking taxi and gets carried off into the night, leaving the rest of the heroes to hold the line while he tries to rescue Superman from wherever he got portal-ed off to single-handedly BRUCE SHUT UP
Green Lantern is really bad at giving speeches. but like. it's funny
Everyone kicks alien butt
Bruce does, in fact, end up saving Superman single-handedly
Victor is soooo OP
Diana punches Captain Marvel through a wall and shoves her sword in his face and says "you are a warrior, not a child! act like it!" LIKE NO MA'AM HE'S LITERALLY TEN YEARS OLD
Captain Marvel does not stop flirting with Diana throughout the time they work together
Green Lantern said "I like trains"
lads I am not joking about how cool the squad is
Victor has bad reception so he flies into the clouds. pray
Victor finds out Captain Marvel is actually an infant and lets him keep the jersey. Billy cracks jokes about his arm being a cannon
Diana calls them all gods. she said Batman is Hades. send help.
Sean Astin voices Captain Marvel
I'm not the biggest fan of the way they drew Superman's face. it's too shaped. BUT the rest of the animation is so spirited and vibrant. storyboard and choreography is phenomenal, not to mention the cinematography! amazing animation
Batman, to Green Lantern: let them think we're friends so the cops don't get me
dialogue is so much fun and so rich. no lines wasted. full to bursting with wit and humor
exposition is breathtaking, considering the time frame they were working with. I'm honestly floored. they took an hour of screen time and made it feel more than twice as long. holy kriff, that's some masterful storytelling right there
this film had more character development for a cast of seven than most modern movies--and some shows--have for one character
excellent voice acting
completely stand-alone; can be watched and thoroughly enjoyed without any prior knowledge

mulder being a stay at home dad and actually raising william would have healed him
Literally! The heart of The X-Files was always family. Mulder’s whole journey in the show was accepting that Sam’s disappearance wasn’t his fault. Not that he ever believed that Sam being abducted was his fault, but he believed that he was guilty of not doing his duty as her older brother to protect her. He does the same thing with Scully’s abduction and the painful events thereafter, blaming himself for not saving her from Duane Barry, for not preventing her cancer, for not finding a cure for Emily.
Scully becomes his family, and he protects her with the same zeal as he does Sam: “Nothing else matters to me,” from the pilot when he’s saying it about uncovering government secrets to find Sam; and then, “Nothing else matters to me now,” from that deleted scene from “The Red and the Black” when he’s telling Scully that his priority is figuring out why abductees are being summoned places by their chips—to protect Scully.
He intended to spend his whole life looking for what happened to Sam, would martyr himself for the cause if he had to because the only thing that ever mattered to him after her abduction was being an older brother. He shifts his commitments to be tied between Sam and Scully, because they’re partners in the professional, platonic, and romantic sense of the word.
Becoming a father was the most natural conclusion of his character arc. I believe that’s why it works so well for Scully to end up wanting kids, too. In Mulder’s quest to “make up” for failing as an older brother, he punished himself with shallow relationships like with Diana, Phoebe, and Kristen. His parents were already wallowing in their own misery and self-pity/self-flagellation, so they were of no help. Scully was the first person to tell him that his wants and desires mattered, that he deserved happiness—getting out of the car. She doesn’t just say that because it’s what she wants, of course; she wouldn’t keep begging him if she didn’t understand that Mulder wanted it, too.
And when he finally accepts that he needs to let Sam go, stop focusing on walking into that room every day—let Scully hold his hand as she goes there with him and guide him back out—he’s free to enjoy the bond he’s forged with her. Free to want a family and want an end to their work, which by necessity requires self-sacrifice. Mulder was never really married to the work, he was sacrificing himself on the blade of it, waiting either for the truth to come to him through all the pain or to die first.
He doesn’t want a kid to come between them, doesn’t want them to forget each other and stop caring enough about each other, because he knows what it’s like to have a dysfunctional family—to have a mother that’s not there for you like you need them to be and a father that’s not there for you like you need them to be. He doesn’t want a baby to be the thing that finally breaks them, makes her leave him behind so he’s all alone again like he was at twelve in the room he spent so much of his life walking into over and over.
He would’ve loved to be a stay-at-home dad, reveling in the normalcy of domestic life. Staying up with Will to feed him at two in the morning with the TV on low, knowing that it wasn’t all in vain—that better things will come if you have the strength to believe in them. Strapping Will to his chest to surprise Scully at work, dressing him up as Spock for his first Halloween, celebrating New Year’s at the volume of a mouse with the TV all the way down so they don’t wake him up…
It’s so painful to watch him lose people over and over again because what is he if not a brother? A son? A father? A partner? Scully made him whole because she tells him that no matter how his life changes—no matter the people that he loses and the relationships that fall apart—he will always be his sister’s brother and his parents’ son and their son’s father and her partner. He will always matter. He doesn’t have to prove himself, he can just be.
When all the dressings of the show are stripped away, Fox Mulder is a family man. He would’ve been so happy to stay home with William and live a fulfilling life that way. Really fucking sucks that the show never so much as acknowledged that. But that’s what the fic is for!

AWAE 12 Days of Christmas Countdown - Day Six
(All fics/snippets are written as missing scenes from my AWAE/Hogwarts Universe fic on ao3)
Day Six - Viewpoint of everyone’s favorite most exasperated professor, as he deals with everyone else’s shenangians for seven years.
(Year One)
“You seem to have a good group this year,” MacMillian said at the Halloween feast, gesturing at the group of Ravenclaw first years that were seated together.  “Got their heads screwed on straight, do they?”
“So it would appear,” Luewellyn agreed. “They’re solid students, at the very least, and moderately well behaved. Especially the young ladies.”
He had expected as much from Jane Andrews, given what a model student her sister was (and he was ever so grateful she didn’t take after her horrid brother) but Diana Barry seemed to take “well-behaved” to a whole other level. And while Musa and Cetus were much like other eleven year old boys at times, they had a genuine eagerness for learning that overcame any other bad habits.
“Lucky you,” Allen muttered from Luewellyn’s other side. “I’ve had to give my Gryffindor first year boys detention twice already. And that MacKenzie boy would rather draw in all of his classes instead of take notes. He’s cost the house at least 50 points already from that alone.”
“Is he any good?” Luewellyn asked, curious. Ravenclaw’s usually got the artists, though if this one liked to cause trouble perhaps it was better he was in Gryffindor.
“Who knows,” Allen said, stuffing a large piece of pork pie into his mouth. “Never bothered to look. But he’s a child; it can’t be that good.”
“Hmm,” Luewellyn said, barely able to hide the distaste in his tone at Allen’s attitude about it. From further down the table, he saw Marilla Cuthbert’s lips twitch. She never did miss a beat, that woman.
“I don’t envy Gryffindor having to make up those points,” Luewellyn said. “Though, Ravenclaws never do cause any trouble it seems. We get the more studious types.”
Privately, he thought it might be nice to get some more rambunctious students from time to time. Insert some passion and liveliness into the house, just to keep things interesting. He’d love to see Diana Barry and Jane Andrews actually smile, for once.
Oh well. If someone that excitable did come along, they’d likely end up in Hufflepuff or Gryffindor.
***
(Year Two)
“Mister Phillips,” Luewellyn said, heading directly to where the man sat in the staff room. “Care to explain why my house is suddenly missing fifty points?”
“One of your students was causing a ruckus in the corridor,” Phillips said stiffly. “It was quite unbecoming behavior.”
Right. Three guesses who said student was. “And this student would be...”
“Miss Shirley,” Phillips said, scowling. “I don’t know how you deal with it Luewellyn, her carrying on all the time. I wouldn’t stand for it in my house.”
“Well,” Luewellyn said coldly. “Fortunate for you, Miss Shirley-Cuthbert is not in your house, and on that note I ask that you leave any future discipline of Ravenclaws to me, their head of house.”
“Of course,” Phillips said hastily. “Forgive my overstep, Phineas. Of course you’d rather punish the girl yourself.”
“Hmm,” Luewellyn said, and swept from the room.
He was passing by the Entrance Hall just do see a number of sapphires vanish from the Ravenclaw column.
“Oh what now?” He threw his hands up.
A group of third year Hufflepuffs were walking behind him.
“Did you hear? That crazy Ravenclaw girl hexed Billy Andrews again!” One of the boys told his friends excitedly.  “Gave him a pig nose and everything!!”
Phineas sighed.
***
(Year Three)
“Congrats on Ravencalaw’s quidditch win yesterday, Phineas,” Irving said at breakfast. “That Diana Barry is a spitfire on a broomstick, hmm? Who would have thought,” he chuckled.
Phineas put his head in his hands.
“Her family doesn’t know,” he muttered.
“Pardon?” Irving gave him a puzzled look.
“The Barry’s. There’s no way they know,” Phineas gave a deep sigh. Eliza Barry would rather wear hand me down robes than let her daughter set foot on a quidditch pitch. Which means she is hiding this from her parents and expecting it not to blow up in her face.”
This was unfair. Phineas had come to expect this type of behavior from Anne, but Diana was meant to be the stable, level headed one.
She was not meant to sneak behind everyone’s back and join a quidditch team. WIthout informing her parents! What if she got injured? It would be Phineas’ job to tell her parents and then the blame would all land on him.
Phineas temporarily abandoned all decorum and put his head down on the table. Maybe retirement could get him out of it.
Irving awkwardly patted him on the shoulder. “There, there.”
Phineas made a note to find Madam Cuthbert sometime that day. Otherwise she’d slip and tell Eliza and the Ravenclaw quidditch season would be over.
***
(Year Four)
“Ah, so you’re the head of Ravenclaw house,” Stacey Muriel said, shaking his hand enthusiastically. “It has been a pleasure teaching your students. They certainly are characters, aren’t they.”
“That is...a way to describe them,” Phineas agreed. Charlie Sloan had blown up yet another  cauldron earlier that week, Prissy Andrews had jinxed the head boy (though no one could prove it) and Diana and Anne...well. Enough had been said about that pair.
Not that he regretted any of them being in his house. He hadn’t bet against Phillips and Allen on the Blythe v Shirley-Cuthbert rivalry for nothing, after all. Anne was going to make him 50 sickles richer.
“They have lovely things to say about you as well,” Phineas said, which was true. Some of his co-workers had their reservations about Madam Stacey’s hiring and later about her teaching, but Phineas put stock in student reviews. And the students raved about her.
“Do you enjoy discussing wand theory?” Phineas asked Muriel. “Irving, the previous charms teacher, and I used to enjoy a good debate over a cup of tea in the afternoon.”
“I would love too,” Muriel beamed. “May I bring Bash?”
Phineas blinked. “Bash?”
***
(Year Five)
“Here,” Phineas said, dumping a bunch of extra quills, scrolls, and chalk into Bash’s desk. “The supplies you requested.”
Bash blinked at him. “I didn’t request any supplies.”
“No, you didn’t,” Phineas agreed. “Because you knew the bigot of a headmaster would just ignore it. So I ordered it for you. You can’t teach a class without basic supplies.”
“I suppose not,” Bash said, smiling. “Thank you, Phineas. I appreciate it.”
“Don’t mention it,” Phineas said. “I mean that. I have a reputation to uphold.”
“Uh huh,” Bash said, amused. “Did you order anything for Muriel?”
“No, Marilla took care of that. We figured if we divided and conquered then it looked less suspicious.”
“Marilla doesn’t teach a class,” Bash pointed out.
“You think our headmaster is smart enough to realize that?”
***
(Year Six)
Phineas wondered if it was time to seriously consider retirement. He had a good run. Over fifteen years as a Hogwarts Professor, that was a respectable streak. He could go out with a reputation of fair, unbroken and unbent professor and none would be the wiser.
“It’s just a matter of educational fairness, sir, that we-” Anne continued valiantly.
“Sure,” Phineas sighed, waving a hand. “I’ll give you permission.”
“Really?” Musa gasped, delighted. “All of us?”
“Yes, yes, all of the sixth year Ravenclaws, unfettered access to the restricted section,” Phineas said. “I’ll drop a note to Vance. Now, please, please, stop filibustering me every time you see me in the corridor.”
“Thank you sir!” Anne and Cetus beamed at him. “You won’t regret it,” Diana added.
“I am almost positive that I will,” Phineas muttered as the group turned to leave. At the last moment he reached out and tapped Diana’s shoulder.
“Is it true you have a little sister starting here next year?”
“Minnie May? Yes, she turns eleven in a few weeks.”
Retirement was sounding like a smarter idea by the moment.
***
(Year Seven)
Phineas looked out at the graduating class of 1899 with a great deal amount of pride, and no small amount of sorrow at the idea they wouldn’t be back at Hogwarts next fall.
He had taught some extraordinary students over the years, but this class without a doubt was exceptional. Each was a credit to themselves and to Hogwarts.
He surveyed the group, all huddled together as they hugged and cheered in the thoroughs of uninhabited delight. He saw Josie Pye and Ruby Gillis giggling like little girls as they discussed boarding houses and their new jobs, an idea utterly unthinkable for them just seven years ago. Cole MacKenzie (who, Luewellyn has come to find, is indeed an incredible artist) held his head high and confident as Jerry Baynard jumped on his back, scuffling him into a headlock. Hard to believe these same young men had led a minor revolution only a month or so ago. Gilbert Blythe had let go of Anne (and thank Merlin that had finally happened) and was surrounded by the Lacroix family, letting baby Delphine play with his robes and looking happier than Phineas had seen since his very first year.
And his Ravenclaws...Musa and Cetus were with Charlie, attempting to be sneaky as they set off fireworks and absolutely failing. (Though, Phineas did seem to be the only one to notice.) Jane was being fussed over by Prissy Andrews, her face absolutely lit up with joy at her sister’s praise.
That just left Diana and Anne, who were hugging each other so tightly it was hard to tell whose arm was whose. Diana Barry, who had come to Ravenclaw mild-mannered and polite, the perfect little lady and so, so lonely. Now she was a top draft pick for the Holyhead Harpies, undoubtedly a quidditch star on the rise. And Anne - who came to Hogwarts wanting and hoping and lonely as well, who had taken one look at everything the wizarding world had to offer and not offer, and demanded better.
If many of his previous students were stars, Anne might be a whole constellation, or an inferno, taking the world by storm.
No self-respecting Professor would ever admit to having favorites, but in private, Phineas could admit that those two absolutely were.
As the students were slowly ushered toward the lake, Phineas found himself joined by Bash, Muriel, Matthew and Marilla on the lawn.
“Strange to think we won’t have them back in September, isn’t it,” Muriel said quietly, inclining her head.
“Safe to say they left an impression,” Bash chuckled. “I wonder how next year’s seventh years will measure up.”
“Hopefully not quite as interesting,” Phineas shook his head. “I’m hoping Ravenclaw can go back to its usual type of quiet, less exciting students.”
“They’re a tough group to live up to,” Muriel agreed. “We might not see anyone quite like them again.”
“Until their kids go here,” Bash piped up. Phineas froze.
“Oh, they’re hardly more than children themselves, Bash,” Marilla tutted, because the woman was absolutely in denial that Jerry and Anne were adults now, and Phineas could prove it. “That won’t be for a while yet.”
Phineas considered the idea. Children. Of this bunch. Sweet Merlin, the offspring of Blythe and Anne alone....
“Any offspring have to go straight into Hufflepuff,” he told Marilla. “No debate.”
“You must be out of your god-given mind,” Marilla said. “Absolutely not.”
“They were all practically your children, take some responsibility,” Phineas hissed. “What happened to Hufflepuff’s ‘taking the lot’, hmm?”
“Are you ever glad that you aren’t a head of house?” Bash asked Muriel loudly.
“Oh everyday,” Muriel said. “Couldn’t imagine all that extra responsibility. Very tiring.”
“The day Anne and Gilbert’s child winds up anywhere but Ravenclaw is a day the stars fall, Phineas,” Marilla sniffed. “Deal with it.”
“I won’t. I can’t. I just survived seven years of this, I don’t deserve more. I will bribe the sorting hat if I have too.”
“Phineas!”

Imagine Diana coming to terms with you the daughter of Ares joining the Justice League
Summary: Part 2 to the previous Diana imagine
Tumblr media
“Diana that’s enough” Bruce shouted
“No worries Bats this is actually kinda fun let her work her frustrations out now.”You shouted back in glee ducking as her sword approached your face. You rolled between her legs, and came up behind her. You gave her a light shove in the back making her stumble forward. “Come on Diana surely you can do better than that, or have you really let yourself go?” You teased with a grin.
Diana swung around with a raging look in her eyes, and then you were moving to the side dodging her sword again. “You will not trick me y/n I know exactly what you’re capable of.” she cried out following your movements.’
“I’m the daughter of a God just like you of course you know what I’m capable of.” You shot back moving backwards for a reason. Diana hadn’t realized it yet but your plan was to get back to your duffel bag. She dragged you away form it when the fight first started knowing it held all your weapons and gear.
“I mean your real motive unlike them you will not fool me.”
“Has it ever occurred to you I’m not trying to fool anyone let alone you. Maybe I really want to be the hero” You jumped back as she slashed at your stomach, but was unable to dodge the kick. The force of it knocked you back onto the floor, but the good thing was you landed right beside your bag. Your hand reached into your bag and dug out your sword. Your brought it up just in time to block her sword. The sound of steel clashing together filled the air Diana gritted her teeth as she leaned down to look you in the eyes. You held her stare frowning as she increased the pressure. Slowly your own sword started to inch down towards your throat.
There was a short breeze and then both of your swords were gone. You reacted faster reaching to grab Diana by the arm and pull her down. You followed up by rolling on top of her so you were straddling her body. She started to struggle but it wasn’t enough to stop you from pinning her arms underneath your knees. With a triumphant grin you leaned down till your face was just inches from her own. “Now don’t be a sore loser just admit I won, and I’ll let you up.”
“You cheated” she growled feet scuffling at the floor trying to gain some momentum.
“No I didn’t you’re the one who attacked me when I was weaponless” You argued with a small frown.
“You won't be joining this team so you mind as well return to whatever dark hellhole you crawled out of.”
“Ouch now that one really did hurt D” You said pulling your face back. Your hands rested on your hips as you turned to the rest of the team. It was Barry who swooped in and interfered. Both of swords were in his arms as he stared at the scene in front of him in awe. Along with Victor and Arthur it was Bruce that looked truly displeased at the fight. You held up your hands “hey don’t look at me like that. I told you this would happen this what happens every time she sees me Batboy.”
“Get off of me” Diana ordered angrily.
“Yeah as soon as you agree to not attack me. You might not want me here but your friends do, and face it the world needs me.”
Her mouth opened to protest but closed again realizing that you were right. She had been outvoted apparently and now that you were here. There was no way you were going to just leave without getting in on the action. She would just have to keep a close eye on you. “Fine I won’t attack you anymore and you can stay now let me up.”
Instead of moving you looked down at her mischief in your eyes. “I think you’re forgetting something Diana.”
Diana frowned trying to figure out what you wanted. “Please” she tried through gritted teeth.
“Nope” You told her shaking your head with a grin.
She groaned realizing what you wanted. “Fine you win now get off.
You stood up and offered her hand to help her up. Diana knocked it away getting to her feet on her own. “I hope you know this changes nothing between us. I’m watching you.”
“Of course you are” You whispered in her ear slipping past her to get your stuff.
“Now that the show is over could you two please come down here so we can go over a plan?” Bruce yelled.
You and Diana shot each other one more glance before she let you descend the stairs first. It would take sometime but you were hoping once all this over the two of you could find some common ground.
Maybe even more.

Speed Force - Day 20 Maribat MArch 2021
Loosely following the prompt today. But, hey, this counts right? Based on the final scene from Justice League: Apokolips War. @maribatmarch-2k21 ao3 link The world was broken, that much was clear.
The war with Apokolips had taken its toll on Earth. The planet once filled with life was reduced to rubble and ruin, the few and far between survivors despaired and broken.
The Justice League had lost half its members.
Team Miraculous had been wiped except for Ladybug, Rena Rouge and Carapace.
The Teen Titans were obliterated, leaving only Starfire, Raven and Robin.
The was nothing left of the Suicide Squad.
Superman had lost his entire family and Batman had lost all but two of his sons.
The shattered remains of Earth’s heroes sat solemnly together in front of what was left of the old Titan tower, looking out on the coast. There were too many people who weren’t there with them.
Aquaman.
Green Lantern.
Cyborg.
Zatanna.
Batwoman.
Lois Lane.
Catwoman.
Harley Quinn.
Superboy.
Beast Boy.
Wondergirl.
Batgirl.
Orphan.
Spoiler.
Signal.
Red Hood.
Red Robin.
Blue Beetle.
Shazam.
Ryuuko.
Viperion.
King Monkey.
Pegasus.
Chat Noir.
The list went on and on.
Ladybug sniffled, her head on Robin’s shoulder. She thought about her fallen teammates, watching Rena comfort a distraught Carapace out of the corner of her eye. They’d lost so much during this war, she could hardly fathom that there used to be a time when they weren’t surrounded by tragedy.
Robin stayed mostly stoic, his arm wrapped tightly around Ladybug’s shoulders, but there was a sad look in his eyes. It was obvious to Ladybug that he was in mourning. Who wouldn’t be? He’d lost all of his siblings except one, who wasn’t even himself anymore.
He glanced guiltily at Starfire and Raven, who were trying to soothe a restrained and exhausted Nightwing.
He knew he promised Marinette that he would never go near a Lazarus pit again, he just couldn’t stand the thought of losing another sibling.
Starfire was hushing the restless Dick Grayson, who seemed to have exhausted himself in his struggle. Raven sat quietly with them, her white hood covering her expression. Her hand carded idly through Nightwing’s hair. Dick was the closest thing she had to a brother.
Damian’s attention shifted to Titus, who’s chin was rested on Mari’s leg. He gave the dog a gentle scratch behind the ear with his free hand.
The silence of the group was broken when Batman returned, approaching Superman and Wonder Woman.
“Any news?” Diana asked.
“The planet’s rotation is compromised.” Bruce announced grimly.
“How bad?” Asked Clark.
“We lost thirty-one percent of the Earth’s core.”
The air over the group grew even more heavy.
Batman announced there would likely be millions upon millions of more deaths before there would be any sort of normalcy.
Marinette stifled a sob, a hand coming up to cover her mouth. Damian pulled her closer.
Superman was desperately trying to rile the crowd, stating that they could still fix everything if they pulled together. That heroes never quit. It didn’t seem very convincing.
At the edge of the group, The Flash sat alone, bouncing his knee anxiously. John Constantine approached him, a cigarette between his lips.
“You know what you have to do, mate.” John said lowly to the other man, tossing his cigarette to the ground and stomping it. They both looked like hell.
Barry looked at the ground, his shoulders slumping.
“I can’t.” he shook his head. “I promised Iris before she…” He trailed off, pausing to compose himself. “Everything would change again. Again.”
Constantine laid a hand on his shoulder. “And some of those changes may be shit, but we could be a lot better off than we are right now.” He said as the two men looked over the small group of survivors.
After another moment of hesitation, Barry looked back to Constantine and gave him a nod.
His face grew determined and he stood up shakily, crouching down into a sprinting position. He was off in a split second, a streak of speed over the water in front of them.
The group watched as a blinding light emerged from the direction Barry ran to.
“Run, Barry, Run.” Constantine muttered, as the light grew bigger and brighter.
A silent understanding washed over the group as they watched the light approach them. They braced themselves, those in pairs or groups clutching tightly to each other.
Clark placed either hand on Diana and Bruce’s shoulders. Alya held tightly onto Nino. Raven and Kori hunched protectively over Dick. Mera, Martian Manhunter and Hawkman stood up to get a better look.
Marinette’s eyes shined with unshed tears as she watched the light come closer. She knew what this meant, and so turned to Damian, who was already looking at her. His expression said everything he wanted to say, there was no need for words.
She leaned in and kissed him with everything in her. Damian kissed her back just as intensely, wrapping his arms around her waist, holding her as close as possible as the light enveloped the shore.
Hopefully it brought a better tomorrow.

My thoughts on Diana/Steve in Justice Society: World War II (spoilers abound)
Justice Society: World War II was a mixed bag, but one of the things it did right was the relationship between Diana and Steve. While it’s not the best portrayal of their relationship (that’d be a high bar to top), it’s pretty up there.
We meet Diana and Steve at a point in their relationship when it’s clear that they care deeply for each other, but have avoided putting a label on whatever’s going on between them because, you know, there’s a war going on and that takes precedence. As a result, their dynamic involves a lot of playful prodding and nudging and dancing around each other. Even though Steve is the more open one about his feelings, he’s never pushy about it, and you always get the sense that Diana reciprocates his affections, she’s just too focused on the mission to comfortably allow herself the pleasure of being loved. Even when she rejects his proposal, they exchange furtive smiles and she holds the flower bouquet he gives her like a prized possession. She even affectionately caresses his cheek as she walks away, as if to let him know that she feels the same way, she just doesn’t think it’s the right time yet. The movie manages to convey the back-and-forth in their relationship while still making it perfectly clear said back-and-forth exists within very clearly-defined boundaries.
Speaking of the proposal, the one we see in the movie is so romantic and elaborate that Barry is under the impression that it was the first time Steve has ever popped the question. We quickly learn that this is not the case, however, and that Steve has been proposing to Diana every single day for only God knows how long. It’s such a small detail, but the implication that he still goes out of his way to make it special and romantic every time reflects Steve’s characterization in the movie: he is someone who treasures every moment as if it were his last. He lives his life with his entire being, and refuses to exist in a  limbo state, waiting for the next disaster to happen. It also shows just how dedicated he is to Diana, that he’s so determined to make every memory one to remember.
Early in the movie, there’s a scene where Steve’s plane is damaged in aerial combat, and he’s going down, fast. So he reaches for Diana’s photo pinned on his dashboard, and touches it lovingly, almost reverently. And just when you think he’s going to give up - his expression hardens with resolve, and he keeps fighting, doing his best to try and pilot the burning plane to safety. Even if the odds don’t look totally great for him right now. Because Steve Trevor has never been a quitter, not when he can do more good alive than dead, not when Diana is counting on him. She, quite literally, gives him strength.
What I love about Steve is that he’s more than happy to hang back and let Diana do her thing. It’s so easy to slip into the same old “guy being protective of his girlfriend” trope, wherein even the most well-intentioned can come off somewhat patronizing. But never once does Steve pull the “it’s too dangerous” card to dissuade Diana from doing something dangerous but necessary. He knows her better than that. So instead, he takes her hand and says, “Be careful”. He’s not going to stop her from doing what she must, because he knows that given the opportunity, he would do the same. And that is exactly what he does, later in the movie. “What are you doing?” Rex asks him as he rushes into a battle he has no chance of winning. “What I can.”
I’m blown away by the scene where Steve steps in between Diana and a literal sea god. “Take as long as you need. I’ve got it covered.” Just because Diana is capable of handling herself, doesn’t mean she has to do it alone all the time. Steve will step up to the plate when he needs to, when he is needed. Diana is strong, but when she falters, Steve will be there to catch her, to be a shoulder for her to lean on, even for just a moment. Because when you love someone, you wouldn’t want them to shoulder all the burdens, you’d want to do your part too, no matter how small, to help alleviate it.
As for Diana, I love the way she loves Steve. It’s quieter and less showy, but it’s not any less real. The way she worries about his safety when he fails to turn up, her unshakeable belief in him, even when others have started to doubt him (“Steve won’t let us down”). Diana in JSWII is a serious, no-nonsense person, but around Steve, you really get the feeling that she’s comfortable enough to let her guard down just a bit. And then there’s the smile she only seems to wear around him. Her exasperated but fond reaction to his repeated proposals. And let’s not forget, the one act that finally makes Diana warm up to Barry is saving Steve.
I love the scene where Steve convinces Diana to stay and fight to protect the villagers. It accomplishes so much in such a short scene: Showing Steve’s upright moral compass (he’s not going to stand by and watch if civilians are in danger), and how much Diana respects him. From beginning to the end, Diana is always the one calling the shots, but in that scene, she listens and defers to him. Not because she has feelings for him, but because he has proven himself to be a good man, and because at the end of the day, they’re two people with similar ideals and moral compasses. When you see it that way, it’s not hard to understand why they fell for each other in the first place.
Now to tackle the big scene: Steve’s death. From the moment Steve appears, the scriptwriters seem determined to make the man say “die” as many times as humanly possible in an effort to telegraph his imminent death, and like, we get it! Stop being so loud about it!  So, yeah, Steve dies (Cause of death: being careless enough to turn your back on your enemy). To make it even more heartbreaking than it is, he collapses in a pool of his own blood just as Diana is running toward a new threat arriving in the bay. Yes, in a way, it perfectly encapsulates their tragic relationship: Even now, Diana’s fixation on saving the world blinds her to the presence of those she loves most, even as their time is running out. But I think there’s another layer to the scene: How many innocents have been left to die like this, overshadowed by the urgency of the situation at hand? Especially in a war?
Only when all is said and done that Diana is alerted to Steve’s grave condition. We get what is possibly the most traumatizing scene this pairing has ever had in any medium (yes, Steve’s DCEU death has been dethroned) as Diana finally accepts Steve’s proposal, but he succumbs to his injuries before he can slip the ring on her finger. And that’s the way their story ends: forever an almost. Earlier in the movie, Steve tries proposing again, joking, “Why don’t you try it [the ring] on? See if it fits.” Diana doesn’t, and as it turns out, she never gets to. Diana never gets to wear the ring, just like they never get to give their relationship a real shot.
Throughout the movie, there are no overt displays of affection between the two of them, no kiss, not even a hug, and I believe that’s intentional. They exist in a limbo state, full of not now and maybe later. Except later never came, so they’re (or rather, Diana is) only left with memories and what if’s. It’s a classic tragic love story where there’s so much unresolved tension and suppressed emotions that ultimately do not grant the audience a satisfying payoff, the kind of stories that stay with you for a long time.
And I, for one, enjoyed every minute of it.

So RWBY/Justice League is apparently a crossover that's actually going to happen. Of the little we know right now, how do you think that's going to pan out?
Anonymous said: Those questions about Superman and Batman in RWBY seem prescient, because I'm hearing that an official crossover is in the works
Anonymous said: Um, so there's a legit Justice League/RWBY crossover coming
Anonymous said: So, that official DC/RWBY crossover, huh?
Anonymous said: So, how about that DC/RWBY cross, eh?
Anonymous said: No more speculating how Superman would fit into RWBY when DC themselves are providing their own answer XD
The immediate thing that leaps out beyond the Kingdom Hearts* level of utterly out of nowhere berserk this premise is: while the RWBY comic had a couple minor sequel hooks, and I don’t know how it did in its original digital chapters or in trade, as a monthly periodical it was selling poorly enough that DC didn’t bother to print its last physical issue after the return from the Coronavirus shutdown, and while I thought it was great a lot of fans complained about its art and characterization throughout. I hoped for that sequel, sure, but I wasn’t expecting the book to be regarded internally as anything but a sales failure, nevermind not only continuing it but tripling down in the most extreme and bizarrely specific way possible that’s neither intuitive (unless you have special interests like me) nor surface-level ridiculous enough like Batman/Elmer Fudd that people will buy it just to see how it works. I don’t understand why this comic is happening when no one but me wanted this.
Tumblr media
(* The Kingdom Hearts comparison is apt because they were similarly close to the top of things I’d love to see cross over with the DCU that would obviously never, ever happen because that’s too precise and random a combination of my interests. Even if this is legally possible where that isn’t, that would still be conceptually simpler.)
I was asked a couple times in the past about how Superman or Batman could make sense in RWBY’s setting, and it turns out I was closer with the latter than the former - that rather than a dimension-hopping traditional crossover, this is reverse-engineering what the assorted members of the League would look like if they had always been part of Remnant ala JLA/Planetary, some of the old DC/Marvel crossovers, or the more recent Batman/The Shadow. Which actually fits really well with the series regularly evoking assorted fairy tales and mythologies with their characters; this bunch is just one more set to be added. Though that raises several more thoughts and questions:
* The solicit refers to them as Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne, and Diana Prince, but will they actually be referred to as such in the story, and will people comment on them not fitting with the color-based naming conventions of that world? Or will they be renamed and evoke their sources purely through iconography, ala Ruby not literally being Little Red Riding Hood?
* How much will the origins of the assorted characters be changed? Batman, Cyborg, and Aquaman would all make perfect sense within the ‘rules’ of the setting with few major alterations, but will Superman still be from Krypton and Green Lantern a space ranger, or will they simply be ordinary humans with thematically reminiscent backstories and Semblances/weapons that evoke the classic powers? I think the latter could work, but I imagine the former is more likely (even if Bennett might keep it vague on some of the details to preserve the aura of mystique and avoid changing the shape of the world too radically) simply because everyone’s surely aware that fans would complain about being ‘ripped off’ for getting the characters ‘in name only’ otherwise.
* Speaking of changes to fit the setting, between being a Faunus and the apparent low-tech traditional armor look of his suit, is Bruce Wayne in here not operating from a position of wealth? You’d just think as a given the Wayne family would be easily plopped in as business rivals to the Schnees and Alfred would be on a first name basis with Klein, but it seems Bennett might have something very different in mind. Also, little disappointing he simply has a katana rather than those collapsible batarangs that turn into swords that Ellis always gave him which would fit perfectly here. And, as so many have already asked: how miserable is he every second of every day in a world where everything is also a gun. At least this isn’t a universe where anyone’s gonna think he’s irresponsible for training teenage sidekicks.
Tumblr media
* And if we’re going into individual characters: RWBY Barry Allen is adorable, what the hell. He just looks so dopey and hapless, I sure hope he doesn’t ever have to die to stop the Anti-Monitor. We’re definitely getting a meeting with Harriet that retcons in that he’s the other person with a speed Semblance she mentioned running into, and if he’s tapping into the Speed Force then the jokes that that’s what Harriet does are probably gonna become at least a little bit canon.
* Are the Themyscirans magic, given all magic has a very important common root in this world?
* I don’t think there’s a dud redesign in the bunch? These are all really inspired in their own ways, which is good because unlikely as it seems this is I believe the first time we’ve really gotten any sort of official interpretation of “here’s what the DCU would look like as a Shonen”. Go ahead and say the hell with it and make it Earth 28, I’ve thought before making that an anime Earth would fit with the map.
Tumblr media
(By Ag_Nonsuch)
* Bunch of obvious ways these characters can play off of each other: Ruby is paralleled with Wonder Woman on the cover, and I’m curious how Bennett will play that, but she makes most sense next to Flash, a super-fast fan made good, or Superman, a character she so deeply if unintentionally evokes on so many levels I felt I had to make clear when describing her that I didn’t solely appreciate her as a psuedo-Superman analogue. Weiss makes sense up against Batman either as a wealthy heir or a Faunus who’s likely faced his share of pain from the Schees who either way are cold perfectionists defined by inner pain stemming from their families, or Wonder Woman/Aquaman as fellow ‘royalty’. Yang is paralleled with Superman on the cover and that makes sense with the two country bruisers with issues regarding their lost parents, though she’d also make sense with Aquaman as the ‘temperamental’ members a lot of the time of their respective teams, or Cyborg as they both deal with their relationships with their bodies after requiring prosthesis. And Blake pretty much has her pick: like Superman she uses an article of clothing to ‘pass’ and shares the commitment to justice, she and Batman are dark children of privilege (or not in this case, though in this world they’re both Faunus), she and Wonder Woman both left the island homes where their people were safe to try and make the rest of the world better, she and Aquaman are both Faunus royalty, and Green Lantern is about overcoming great fear and in Jessica Cruz’s case specifically about the guilt of running away.
* Will this be entirely flashbacks to the pre-series/Beacon years, or will those be flashbacks set from a ‘present’, and if so when? What happened between the siege of Haven and the train setting off for Argus is the most loosely-defined period in the story and is right on the heels of the end of the original RWBY mini, so I’d imagine it fitting here. And given they apparently join together “to take on a force unlike anything they've seen before” rather than purely the character work of that previous book, what might that be?
* Hey, superhero comics/superpowers as an idea already exist in this universe, will that come up?
Tumblr media
* If we can get one single scene in this and it’s going with a “yes they’re still aliens and magic and whatnot” premise I want Clark, who hasn’t thought of being Superman yet and therefore is still at least somewhat hiding his powers, being wracked with guilt over not pursuing becoming a Huntsman and therefore not being there at the Fall of Beacon. Which is a ridiculous thing to take the blame for, but of course he would, he’s Clark, culminating in trying to apologize to JNR for Pyrrha dying he feels in part because he was a coward (when they don’t even have the faintest concept for why he would think he should have been there or could have done anything).
* Once all’s said and done, how is their presence in the world justified as not being a factor in the series proper? It’s simple if they’re ‘ordinary’ analogues who can go off to quietly have adventures elsewhere, but if not then some of them either have to be shuffled off stage or presumably left with their stories incomplete, with a little afterward of “and they went on to be the greatest heroes of all...later, after the scope of team RWBY’s main adventures so that we never have to directly address them again” to avoid them becoming unavoidable major factors in the war against Salem.
In the end, will it be DC’s best comic? No, though I imagine one of their better ones this year. Will it be among the ones I look forward to most each month? Right up there with Yang and Reis’s Batman/Superman baby, this is a miracle freak of fate and I’m gonna appreciate the universe bending over backwards to make entertainment for me and me alone while it lasts. Given I finally checked out RWBY in the first place because I was curious about Bennett’s original comic, this is a heck of a full-circle moment.

2018 Fic
Summary: Based on The Scientist by Coldplay, which I thought kind of fitted Anne and Gilbert a lot (have a listen if you’ve never heard it before! It’s a beautiful song). Major moments of their relationship from Gilbert’s point of view, along with missing scenes and an AU ending, definitely enemies to friends to lovers. Hope you enjoy!
Come up to meet you; Tell you I’m sorry; You don’t know how lovely you are
Red. He saw it, red hair. Never was there another colour like it. Gilbert slowly turned in his seat to see a scraggly, freckled girl seated next to Diana Barry. Who was this girl? The sun glinted steadily through the window onto that hair that had drawn his eye in the first place. Why it’s as red as carrots, he thought, continuing to do nothing but stare at the girl who he had never seen in his life. She glanced his way, to which he winked at her, smiling smugly that she’d looked.
After a muttered word to Diana, the girl gazed out the window and, at least what Gilbert began to believe, blatantly ignored him. Feeling the need to see those grey-green eyes look his way once more, he began to rack his brain for ideas. Carrots…
“Carrots,” he hissed softly while tugging gently on the red hair he’d already grown so fond of, “Carrots.”
She whirled around in horror, her eyes flashing a delicious shade of green. “How dare you!” she screamed, and the next Gilbert knew was she’d gone and smashed something over his head. Was that a slate? Either way he found himself apologising profusely to Mr. Phillips who’d rushed to the scene.
Ann Shirley has a very bad temper. Ann Shirley must learn to control her temper. * Was written on the board, and the girl grimly marched to the board placing an ‘e’ at the end of each Ann. Anne Shirley. What a beautiful name for a beautiful girl. Anne stood seething under that sign for the rest of the afternoon, glaring every now and then at the boy who started it all.
At the end of the day Gilbert waited behind for Anne to leave after her lecture from Mr. Phillips. Intercepting her at the door, he glanced into her eyes, “I'm awfully sorry I made fun of your hair, Anne," he whispered contritely. "Honest I am. Don't be mad for keeps, now." *
The lovely girl with the golden, red hair snubbed her nose, and marched away with Diana at her side. Despite this, he grinned dumbly. She’s simply lovely, he thought his eyes following her down the road as she made her way towards what he assumed to be her home.
I had to find you; Tell you I need you; Tell you I set you apart
With the mayflowers in hand, Gilbert set off towards Patty’s Place, smiling sweetly at what could come of this particular visit. He found Anne in the orchard her head buried in a book, and he smiled slightly at her usual Anne-ness.
Handing her the Mayflowers, he carefully told her of his plans for the summer: staying in Kingsport to work at the Daily News Office. Gilbert watched as her face fell, hoping this was as good of time as any to ask her the question he had yearning in the back of his mind ever since that fateful day he called her carrots. She quickly composed herself however, and before she could make any more excuse to leave to pick violets, he said, “Things can't go on like this any longer. Anne, I love you. You know I do. I - I can't tell you how much. Will you promise me that someday you'll be my wife?” **
Anne quickly turned away shaking her head. Gil’s face fell immediately. Perhaps he was deceiving himself all along. Had she really never loved him? What about at Echo Lodge? Surely there was something in her eyes then. She begged for his forgiveness, and he gently, in person and heart, let go of her hand.
“There isn't anything to forgive. There have been times when I thought you did care. I've deceived myself, that's all. Goodbye, Anne.” ** And as he walked away that day, malice entered his heart. He must never think of Anne Shirley again.
Tell me your secrets; And ask me your questions; Oh, let’s go back to the start
Gilbert sat, his work sprawled across his desk as he ran his hands carefully through his curls. Biting his lip, he thought carefully about what was bothering him so. It has been a year, a year to the dot. His eyes glistened with tears once more as he remembered the terrified look on Anne’s face as he told her of his love for her. Oh, how he regretted it now. Shaking his head, he recalled their beautiful friendship, dwelling on the secrets that she had lovingly entrusted him with.
“Gil,” Anne said, a little melancholic after a particularly deep conversation between the two of them, “Could I tell you something? Something I’ve never told anyone else?”
He looked at her curiously, “Not even to Marilla or Diana?” At the shake of her head, he swallowed carefully, “You know you can tell me anything.”
“Well, I never really thought of it till now. Do you really think anyone could love me? I mean romantically? I’m afraid that I’ve not grown up surrounded by love that I don’t know what I’m looking for. Marilla and Diana, they think me foolish with my fantastic ideals of love. But when I was about 5 or 6, I was living with a family who’d hired me as a work hand – to look after the children, you see. I remember their eldest son was much older than their youngest children. He was about 15 or 16. He wrote poetry and was melancholic. He was the only one in that household that ever paid any attention to me and snuck me food when no one was looking. I didn’t love him romantically of course, I was only 6, but I feel that’s where this all sprouted from in the end. Don’t you think it’s strange that these memories come back to us so many years later?”
Gilbert had stopped their walking a while back. He looked deep into her eyes and whispered, “Anne…”
Anne cleared her throat at the intimacy in his voice, and Gilbert immediately thought himself an idiot for letting such intimacy come about in this private moment, “Um, I should… go. I’ll see you later Gilbert.”
Thinking back to this moment now, just a few weeks before they went to Redmond, he knew how idiotic it was to ask for her hand. He wasn’t the brooding hero she had longed for her whole life – he was plain old Gilbert Blythe, ex-best friend of the most remarkable woman to walk the earth. Yes, she was…
Nobody said it was easy; It’s such a shame for us to part; Nobody said it was easy; No one ever said it would be this hard; Oh, take me back to the start
Gilbert saw the radiant girl – no, woman – waltz into the newly decorated hall on the arm of Royal Gardner. Her figure was dressed in an apple green with a low scooped neckline, and her ruddy tresses were laced with small snowdrops. She’s simply beyond beautiful tonight, and you can’t have her. He sighed, lacing his fingers with his ruddy curls, and pacing near the wide window that showed the snow covered land. His best friend – ex-best friend, he scoffed – was on the arm of another man and if the whispering around him was true, she would continue to be on his arm forever.
He felt a gentle tap on his shoulder, and he swung around to see Christine Stuart with a small smile gracing her lips. “Gilbert, are you ready for our dance? The band is set up now.” In the short while of pacing, the room had come to life. Women and men dressed to the nines, chatter erupting and creating an atmosphere of warmth. He nodded and grabbed her hand, placing it in the crook of his arm as they meandered to the dance floor.
They twirled and swayed slowly to the tune that was being softly played. Violins, piano, and flutes all filling his head with sweet song. Not as sweet as Anne, the thought rudely interrupted. He shook his head, gracing a glance at the couple dancing not two feet away from him and his partner. And I guess that is the man who will sit and read her Tennyson by firelight. Yes, but you would do that for her too…
“Gilbert, is everything alright?” He quickly looked up and then down, realising that he had stopped their slow dance and there were people hurrying to avoid crashing into them. “You’re awfully pale. Did you want to sit down for a spell, or perhaps get some air?”
“Um, yes please. I just need to be alone for a little while. Will you be alright? I’ll be back by the next dance.” Christine opened her mouth, but Gilbert had already started walking away continuing his pedantic running of fingers through his hair. Oh, why did you ask her to marry you anyway. You ruined everything; she could still be on your arm as a friend – best friend – not on the arm of that Royal guy. He gasped in the cold air and his hardened heart frosted over as the rivers seeped from his eyes.
I was just guessing at numbers and figures; Pulling your puzzles apart; Questions of science, science, and progress; Do not speak as loud as my heart
Every day Gilbert placed one foot in front of the other to pull himself out of bed, through the door and into the gates of Redmond to face his studies, and it was paying off. Another year without Anne; another year of topping every class. It was the easiest distraction from the rushing thoughts and escorting Christine around to various social gatherings. Pouring into schoolwork was always something he had enjoyed, but especially now when it was the only thing in his life that he could fully control. Especially when flashes of red hair and green eyes invaded his dreams every night. Especially when he couldn’t have her.
Tell me you love me; Come back and haunt me; Oh, and I rush to the start; Running in circles, chasing our tails; Coming back as we are
It hadn’t been so long ago that they were walking through Hester Gray’s garden – she was picking flowers and he was desperately trying to see more in their friendship. Days often turned to dusk while they were together. And oh, they could talk, or rather Anne could. In every memory he had of her, there were glimpses of moments that he had misconstrued as love. Fleeting touches – of course they were by accident – meaningful glances – Miss Lavender’s wedding, I think she did love me then, perhaps for a moment.
Anne was still very much on the arm of Royal Gardner at every social gathering, while Christine Stuart was on his own arm. The distractions of schoolwork and being up for the Cooper prevented Gilbert from taking in much of the gossip that surrounded the couples. In the back of his mind, he knew what they were saying. Gilbert to wed Christine and Royal to wed Anne. He knew the gossip around his love life was not true, Christine was engaged to another man and he didn’t think of her in that way. But Anne… All of those rumours could very well be true. Where would that leave him?
“Gilbert!” No… it couldn’t be her. “Gil!” And just like that her red hair was staring him in the face.
“Anne?”
“Yes, of course. Gilbert, I just wanted to congratulate you. It seems we are both on the honours list, I’ve just come from the dean’s office. Here,” she shoved a piece of paper into his hands, “see for yourself. It’s all so exciting!”
And in that moment Gilbert allowed himself back to those friendship days of Lover’s Lane, the Dryad’s Bubble, the Lake of Shining Waters, and imagined what it would be like to be with her in those places now. She continued to chatter but stopped when he suddenly gathered her into his arms. “Thank you, Carrots.” And he walked away, leaving her mouth wide open and a few tears gathered on her eyelashes.
Nobody said it was easy; Oh, it’s such a shame for us to part; Nobody said it was easy; No one ever said it would be so hard; I’m going back to the start
That moment of the honours list sustained him for some time. She was radiant at convocation in her dress with his flowers. His promise to her all those years ago. If we make it to graduation I’m sending you a bunch of Lilies of the Valley. The Cooper’s Prize was his and Anne had made the honour’s list for English. Well, of course. In the times that he has known her she has been the storyteller, and so honours in English was never a negotiable thing.
The dance began and through the crowd he could see her. She was once again in a shroud of pale green taffeta, his flowers laced through her hair. Everything slowed as they made eye contact with one another. He stumbled towards her, dropping Christine from his arm. As if in a daze, he made his way through the ballroom. But then he saw the haze of her eyes, and the shock in her face as she turned towards the entry of the room. She began to run out into the cool of the early summer night.
In that moment Gilbert knew exactly what he was doing, and yet his knees never stopped knocking, his hands never left his curls. He was going after her. And this time nothing was going to stop him. In the craze of the ballroom, he flung himself around dancing couples and out the door. In the moonlight he saw the pale skin of her throat accentuated by the curls let loose down her back.
“Anne!” She stopped her dazed walk but did not turn to face him. He quickly caught up to her and placed both hands on her cold shoulders. “Anne-girl, what’s wrong?”
“You did it again.” She murmured, which he barely caught through the howling wind.
“What?”
“You call me Anne-girl, you send me gifts, flowers, you never break your promises. And yet you look at me in the same way you always have, even after I broke your heart. Gil? How can you still look at me that way? I’ve never deserved it Gil… I’ve never…” It broke his heart more to have this precious girl crying in his arms over unspoken words, glances, and touches. But he did speak his heart over two years ago in that orchard. Could it be that she’s changed her mind? “And now, you’re going to marry Christine and it’s all my fault that I never understood… I never understood…”
“Anne-girl,” he said in reverence, “is that what this is about?” She pulled her head off his chest to look into his kind, hazel eyes, and he reached up to wipe away her tears. “I’m not engaged to marry Christine. It’s all silly rumours, one’s which I never paid much attention to anyway. You see… I have a dream. I persist in dreaming it, although it has often seemed to me that it could never come true. I dream of a home with a hearth-fire in it , a cat and dog, the footsteps of friends – and you!” ***
And there was once again that moment in which Anne looked at him like he thought he must look at her and he knew there was no separating them again.

I finally got to watch Zack Snyder’s Justice League today and man did I love it! It was four hours that flew by and I would be happy to have spent another four with them! Just seeing this team work together makes me want to spend so much more time with them!
Also, trying not to focus on comparing this to the other version, so all I’ll say is I loved this version much more, I liked the characters better, the story made more sense, most of the jokes landed way better, and it also was given four hours to tell the story and that helped it immensely!
Now for spoilers of all my thoughts and what I loved of the film!
In no particular order, just what came to mind after my first watch of the film!
- Wonder Woman calling the little girl princess and saying she could be whatever she wanted! So sweet and her whole warrior vibe is always so badass and the longer Amazon battle was incredible, but again it was hard seeing them die. But all of the Diana scenes with Bruce were great as well as Arthur and the talk of hate being useless. I just love seeing her with other members of the league! I just love her so much! Seeing her inspire, seeing her be a hard warrior, and seeing her have the soft meaningful moments with the team! Everything that Diana is! I want so much more of her!
- Bruce/Batman speaking Icelandic, so good! All of his scenes with Alfred and still having faith and knowing the need Superman! When he was told his parents would be proud, enter tears! “This is Alfred, I work for him!” So good as well as being inspired by Wonder Woman’s gauntlets lol him providing for the team and seeing how much money he really has made the “I’m rich” line work and I loved him telling Clark he was just righting a wrong , but he knows something darker is coming and would love to see him figure it all out.
- Alfreds interactions with everyone, especially Diana!
- That Martian Manhunter reveal! Boy did it get me, I was so happy and surprised! That Martha scene was so sweet and I was extremely surprised when I found out it was actually J’onn and am intrigued to see where he’s been how long has it been him and everything that is going on with him!
- Lois pregnant?!?! And visiting the monument, and of course the scene with Martha!
- Cyborg! Our boy Victor Stone, he really was the heart of this movie, his scenes with his mama broke me and then at the end when he said he wasn’t broken or alone, when I tell you I was in tears! He was a wonderful reluctant hero, even though he had already been doing heroic thing prior to becoming Cyborg. Watching him use and accept these gifts was great and him seeing his dad die also broke my heart. He had most of the emotional moments for me.
- So much of Silas and Ryan Choi, I’m glad this movie was four hours so we could spend time with them too.
- Aquaman was, I think was utilized the least, but I loved his subtle moments, he’s still the stubborn and cynical since this is before his movie, but I love how he also can’t help but help them and this does leave him where he is in the beginning of his movie, which is great...I loved him and his moment with Wonder Woman at the grave and his scene with the flash talking about cyborg, saying he never said that he didn’t care, I loved these moments that gave him time to shine.
- The Flash, our Barry! He had the jokes, which some landed and some didn’t for me, but I loved his excitement and how he was so impressed by all that was happening around him! So good in the end you know the scene! And how he echoed his dad and told he was one of the best of the best so good, another emotional moment for me. He definitely had heart!...I’m very excited to see more of him on his film.
- Superman, we waited so long to get him back and of course that fight with the league was still incredible. I loved the moments of him with Lois and his mom! But when he gets the black suit and you hear both his dads talking, man that was such a great moment!
- Steppenwolf’s motive made sense, but man seeing Darkseid look at the league through the portal was crazy!
- As for Victor’s vision and the knightmare sequence I didn’t like seeing Diana dead, so heartbreaking she deserves the best and the whole knightmare scene was sad seeing them like that, but I definitely want to see more of this all and see them fix it so yes, #restorethesnyderverse indeed
- The entire team had their moments in the battle, they each get a time to shine and they all have softer moments that made them feel real and like an actual team and group of friends, that I would love to see grow even more!
I just really loved all the character interactions and different dynamics they had, the different parings and just really how they played off of each other. How some were reluctant to to join but once they did, they worked together and helped each other, such a great team that followed through and were on board with their plans, the really acted as a team, even if some thought it might not have been a great plan, they still did it all together.
I don’t know what will happen in the future, but this movie was great and would love to see more of all of these characters separately, together, and see them add more members! I’m really just in love with them and I already want to watch it again!

My thoughts on Zack Snyder's Justice League because I watched it
The opening sequence, bc even tho the repeated scream audio was stuipid this opening was better
The new meeting between batman and Aquaman - that drawing on the wall in the og was unnecessary
Diana's extra badassery
The design of Stephen Wolf, because now he actually looks scaryish
The Queens emotions about losing her sisters of Themyscira - QUEENS DON'T JUST SEND THEIR PEOPLE INTO BATTLE EMOTIONLESSLY THESE SCENES WERE NEEDED - FUCK
THE BIGGER WITH IN THEMYSCIRA WHY THE FUCK DID THEY CUT THAT OUT?! - oh right, its because the previous director is sexist as fuck,
Stephen Wolf's Daddy Issues because that's fucking hilarious
Bruce explaining his want to find everyone bc of his promise
The close up on the fly things because that actually made it scary
THE FUCKING LIGHTING CEREMONY IN THEMESCERIA HOLY MOTHER FUCKING SHIT
Diana's extra badassery after getting the Arrow because WHY THE FUCK WAS THAT CUT?! This explains SO MUCH about how Diana knows SO MUCH about a time she wasn't alive in and I have NO FUCKING CLUE why it was cut!?
Arthur Curry is a Stripper - Confirmed!
Arthur and his trainer talking, but idfk why they kept the bubble thing Although I do like that they clarify that it's not just Mera who can do that bubble thingy
The scene between Stephen Wolf and the stone-wall dude person was cool and it explained why Stephen Wolf was so desperate
Zeus, Ares, and Artemis prepped for battle along with Poseidon in the flashback was FUCKING AWESOME!!! Diana's Aunt as well, the shows of the Green Lanterns, and the ring returning to the planet [Although they should've named Artemis, bc she can easily be mistaken for Athena - Also; Artemis' roman equivalent in the goddess Diana ]
Darkseid being in the flashback, which explains a lot
The Gods vs Darkseid was FUCKING AWESOME
Barry's awkward rambling after running into Iris
ALSO IRIS FUCKING WEST!!!
The Big Belly Burger Reference, nicely done
My dad says Iris' car is beautiful
BARRY SAVED IRIS BITCHES
The slow-mo crash gave me anxiety
My dad says, "I know you got all the time in the world but c'mon this is ridiculous" about that scene then "That beautiful car..."
THE SCENE WITH STEPHEN WOLF AND THE ALTLANTIAN MAKES EVERYTHING MAKE SO MUCH MORE SENSE BECAUSE HOW THE FUCK DID STEPHEN WOLF KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE MOTHER BOX IN ATLANTIS
Do. Not. Make. Diana. And. Bruce. Romantic. Don't. Fucking. Do. It.
The use of slow-mo is kind of redundant
Victor being fucking AMAZING even tho he's getting in trouble at school
Victor and Mama's discussion gives some life to the 2-Dlike Cyborg from the og movie, WHY THE FUCK WAS IT CUT?!
Victor's inner-world where he's still fully human
Barry being sarcastic as fuck towards his father lmfao
"Very attractive Jewish boy"
The reference to Grodd YAAAAAAAS
I still hate that Barry's lightning is blue and not red
The explanation of the Speedforce and Snacks
"What are your super powers again?" "I'm Rich" Still one of the best lines
I love Diana's shirt in the scene with Alfred
"Looks like you have a date, Ms. Prince" lmfao - Unless his name is Steve, I doubt it
I feel like Victor and Diana would be a good brother/sister duo, ngl
Burying the fucking box at your mothers grave was the stupidest shit I have ever fucking seen Victor.
COMMISIONER GORDON HELL YES
Barry's utter fail at being normal around Diana
The underwater click-like dolphin speak was cool, but still kinda dumb knowing that later Aquaman speaks underwater just fine - ngl
Nice Liquidkinetics, Mera. Amber you're still a cunt.
Also, Mera says her parents died - Wasn't her father alive in Aquaman??
Victor seeing the bat-signal explains how he knew how to find them, honest
The badass entry of Bruce, Diana, and Barry makes me laugh
Barry is far too close to Bruce
Victor scared Barry LMFAOOOO
If Victor's father is the head of STAR Labs where the fuck is Harrison Wells?????
THEY LEFT BARRY BEHIND, ASSHOLES
Diana's annoyance at Barry running ahead is such a Mom thing
Stephen using the bug thing makes SO MUCH MORE SENSE
Diana trying to make a plan and it getting ruined fits with the exasperated Mom theme she's got going on.
THE SONG HEN DIANA GOES AGAINST STEPHEN WOLF, THE FUCKING VOCALS ALONG MAKE ME HYPE AS SHIIIIIIIIT
"I Belong To No One" I FUCKING LOVE IT

That jump onto the crawler was smooth as fuck Diana!
Stephen Wolf getting visions from the boxes also explains a lot about some shit
"I know the requirements, I wrote them" Suuuuuuubtle lmfaoo
Victor brining the box them also fits better
Why is this Stone looking mother fucker speaking Latin?
Hello Darkseid, you look particularly dramatic this evening
Victor's explaining how he knows about the box makes a lot of sense, why was this cut again??

Come Back PART 1
Welcome to Part 1 of my Bruce Wayne x Reader series! This is about Batmom trying to overcome the loss of losing Bruce - I originally wrote this as an OC of mine (who you may see someday lol) but for now, enjoy! triggers: death, blood, arguing ___________________________________________________________  4 days. It had been 4 days since she lost him. She extended her arms and held onto the sheets, longing for his embrace. Y/N always joked how he slept like a corpse… how ironic. "Y… Y/N, I'm-" The scene played on repeat in her head painfully. Clark holding a piece of one of his many gadgets. The numbness she felt… she couldn't even cry. She couldn't fucking cry. She couldn't breathe… The Batcave was silent for the first time in years. He finally got his damned peace and quiet back. After what felt like an eternity, she finally let out a muffled sob. Her mind filled with issues she would have to resolve; Who will support their sons? Who will support Alfred? Who will look after their girls? Who will look after her?
Y/N felt a hand over her shoulder, but she couldn't tell who it was, everything became a blur. That's when she finally allowed herself to cry. She clutched onto who she could only assume was Clark and didn't let go. She screamed and shouted as she cried into his arms, hoping she would wake up from the dream. But it wasn't a dream. Y/N would have to live on without him. After five minutes of Y/N newfound hell, a member of the Justice League had sat her outside Batcave, towards Bruce's study. Alfred had gone to bed after hearing the horrible news Clark informed the rest of the family without Y/N present- She could barely look up without going weak. Through the door, she could hear the quiet, calm whisper of Clark comforting their children. She wanted to be int there, supporting them along the way but she couldn't face looking at them. Especially their youngest, Damian, who had just came into their lives. Suddenly, the door swung open; Y/N quickly stood up, ready to embrace whoever came through that door:
Jason and Stephanie pulled away from her as he left the mansion.
Tim scurried into the Batcave, unable to look at his adopted mother.
Dick, her oldest, remained seated in his father's desk chair being comforted by Barbara.
Cassandra fled to her room which left Y-N with...
Damian.  "Damian, I understand if you just want to be alone tonight-" before Y/N could even finish her sentence, the young boy had flung himself to her, crying into her stomach softly. The first night that he ever showed affectionate emotion towards Y/N, in the most unfortunate timing.  The first night without Bruce, no one dared speak to each other. Damian and Y/N slept that night in the same bed, supporting each other through the nightmares and the tears. The following days were full of arguments over little things that would arise, glasses would be shattered across the floors, doors would slam always. Alfred was rarely seen, Tim never left the cave and Y/N… she never left her room. A faint knock broke her thoughts as the door slowly opened. Damian- poor, sweet Damian- cleared his throat "Ummi, today's the day… Will you be joining us?" Y/N eyes slowly looked over to her son, he looked so serious and so much like Bruce. All she could give was a nod as she slowly sat up in bed. Y/N faintly spoke, "I will be down in an hour." It was a quick meeting between the two, but it was a start. After Damian left, she mustered her strength to rise out of bed and to head to the shower. It was a needed shower. Throughout the first night, several members of the League stayed for the night to ensure that the family was okay and it was Barry who was left to look after Y/N. He was one of the few members she trusted after the accident. Diana and some of the other female league members tried to encourage her to have a wash, but she refused to shower; "No-no-no. You don't understand I can smell him. I-I-I can't… I can't just lose him." "Y/N please-" Diana extended her arms towards the weak mother only to have them slapped away. "Don't you dare come near me." Y/N shrieked as she swatted her arms towards the Amazonian Princess. Barry finally swopped in, helped her into some comfy clothing and tucked her and Damian into bed. Y/N steadily shuffled into the shower and closed the glass door behind her. The shower always had a nasty habit of starting at the coldest possible temperature and would stay like that several minutes after turning the switch to hot water. She knew that she needed to look after herself, her family needed her. The shower felt too large for just Y/N. Even with the water burning her skin, she felt cold. As she finished her shower, Y/N dried herself and dressed without help for the first time in four days. After making her face up, just enough to hide her tiredness, she stared at herself in the mirror. She was thinner than usual. Her hair wasn't shining, and her smile had been replaced with a frown. Y/N let out a deep breath and said to herself:
"He'll come back."

Comment based on your Justice League posts: Last year, one of my now ex-friends sent me the scene where Flash and Batman meet in the Bat Cave. He said “I feel like this describes you pretty well.”
My autism radar went off and yes, I can confirm I am Ezra Miller’s Flash.
then you must be pretty cool!
honestly it's just so nice to see characters we can see ourselves in, feel represented, even if it isn't canon. if the traits are there then that's enough
i don't think i'm autistic but i surely really felt like barry in more than one way, i'm so socially awkward and i only have two or three real friends which sometimes don't even feel like that either
so yeah. relating to characters is so nice, you feel like you're not alone
but on a side note, that scene was the absolute best.
"stop right there! i'm in!" ("just like that? 😀") "yeah... i need... friends." lsksidkdnd, like, i wouldn't mind being friends with alfred and diana? can i?

AWAE 25 Days of Christmas  Day 22 “Go on, love birds”
Gilbert was a bundle of nervous energy as he sat in Ms. Josephine Barry’s parlor, a cup of tea growing cold in front of him.
It had been Anne’s idea that they meet at “Aunt Jo’s” house. Gilbert had finally managed the double miracle of having enough train fare for a trip to Charlottetown as well as having caught up on his work to be able to take the trip, and he and Anne had been ecstatic to see each other for the first time in months, if only for a few hours. Since Anne’s landlady only allowed suitors on Sunday afternoons, when Gilbert would be halfway back to U of T, Anne had suggested a bit of subterfuge in their meeting. Aunt Jo’s was an adequate secondary location, since Gilbert had been there before and Aunt Jo herself was apparently a kindred spirit.
Privately, Gilbert had thought it would give them the added bonus of avoiding the prying eyes of the other Avonlea girls. He liked Diana and the other girls well enough, but he hadn’t traveled hours on a train to listen to them giggle and tease him and Anne.
He had completely forgotten Cole McKenzie. Who was now seated across from him in the parlor, grinning at him like the cat who caught the canary and the cream.
“So, you’re here to visit Anne?” Cole asked, just a mite smug. “Last I saw you two, you could hardly stand to be in the same room.”
“We uh - settled our differences,” Gilbert said, stumbling over his words. He was only now realizing he had no idea who from Avonlea knew about his and Anne’s courtship. Diana knew, of course, and her father, and Bash. It hadn’t occurred to him that they would now have to tell people.
“And are such good chums now that you decided to spend a whole day and more on a train ride?” Cole raised a brow. “Must have been some settlement.”
Gilbert nearly choked on his own breath, coughing wildly at Cole’s accidental innuendo.
“I, well-” Gilbert stammered, his ears very red as he tried not to think about just how he and Anne had “settled” their communication fiasco.
“Oh Cole, stop teasing the poor boy,” Josephine Barry chided, sweeping into the parlor. “You know perfectly well Mr. Blythe here is courting our Anne; she told us about it weeks ago.”
“She did?” It was silly, the elation he felt at those simple words. Gilbert’s heart felt like it was dancing a jig.
“Technically, Diana told me,” Cole corrected primly. “Anne mostly sat there, face as red as her hair as she tried to remember how to speak,” Cole gave Gilbert a wicked grin. “I heard you caused quite the scandalous scene in front of the boarding house.”
“I - there was pretty good context for it at the time,” Gilbert said weakly.
“Oh, I am not faulting you for it at all,” Cole said happily. “I’ve been waiting for this development for ages. I told Anne years ago that you had a crush on her.”
“You did?”
Cole nodded. “Back when we all went to Charlottetown for the light bulbs. Right after you two were done your strange flirting as we left the train. She didn’t believe me, of course, even though it was very obvious. You looked at her as if she hung the moon,” Cole snorted.
“Oh,” Gilbert felt sheepish. He had thought he had done a good job keeping his feelings in check until last summer. Apparently, if Bash and Gilbert were to be believed, he had not.
“That was some time ago,” Ms. Josephine said, raising a brow at Gilbert.
“Aunt Jo, I don’t think you would have stood for it,” Cole said, clearly relishing in sharing this tale. “Those two were dancing around each other for ages; it was a wonder Gilbert got any work done in school, he was too busy staring at Anne.”
“I wasn’t that bad!” Gilbert tried to defend himself.
“I sat behind you and Charlie, Gilbert,” Cole reminded him. “You were that bad.”
Cole might have a point there.
“Anyways, I’ve had far too many letters from Diana describing your latest escapades once I was gone,” Cole shook his head. “I’ve yet to get the full story of just what happened after the exams out of Anne, though. I’m glad you got it sorted out, Diana seemed ready to knock both of your heads together in her letter right before the fair.”
“She would have done it, too,” Gilbert shook his head. His opinion of Diana had changed drastically in the last few months. “Your niece can be very terrifying when she wants to be,” he told Ms. Barry.
“I know,” Ms Barry said proudly. “She’s come a long way.” She then swept out of the parlor, calling for Rollings, her departure as grand as her entrance.
Gilbert could see exactly why Anne admired this woman so much.
“So,” Cole’s grin dissipated the moment the older woman left, and he sat forward in his chair, a serious expression on his face. Gilbert felt himself sit up straighter automatically. “You’re courting Anne.”
“I am,” Gilbert said, a little uncertain of where this was going. Cole had always been a very reserved, kind boy, and for the last thirty minutes there had been nothing but cheeky remarks and grins. Now though, Gilbert was remembering that Cole also had attacked Billy Andrews out of the blue once, in a state of fury incarnate. There had been rumors that Anne had been involved over that too, somehow.
“Anne is a very dear friend to me,” Cole said sternly. “She was there for me at a time that no one else would be, and she is the reason that I had the strength and courage to be here now. I care for her a great deal, Gilbert. I would like to see her have the same sort of happiness she has helped me find.”
“I know the two of you had a rough ride to get where you are,” Cole continued. “And though I am quite glad that you managed to meet in the middle at last, I dont want to hear about any more miscommunication fiascos. Figure it out together, Blythe, because should I ever get any wind that you are treating Anne poorly, or giving her any cause to be unhappy, you’re going to need a doctor yourself. Is that clear?”
“Understood,” Gilbert said hastily. “Truly, Cole, all I want is for Anne to be happy. I am well aware of how fortunate I am to have her in my life, and how foolishly, stupidly close I came to losing her forever.”
“Excellent,” Cole clapped, all smiles and cheer again as if he hadn’t just been threatening Gilbert’s life. Ms Barry returned and Cole carried on reminiscing about their Avonlea school days as if nothing had happened.
All of Anne’s friends were terrifying, Gilbert decided.
At long last, the bell rang, signaling Anne’s arrival. Gilbert sprang to his feet without thinking, his heart racing.
“That look,” he heard Cole tell Jo gleefully. “Every single time she read aloud or beat him in a spelling competition or even just walked through the door, we all had to put up with that look.”
Cole and Bash were never, ever, allowed to meet, Gilbert thought. Then Anne walked in and all other thoughts vanished.
“Gilbert,” Anne said softly.
“Hello Anne,” Gilbert could hardly believe she was finally in front of him.
“Go on, love birds,” Cole called. “I know you’ve been pining Anne, at least give him a hug now.”
“Cole!” Anne cried furiously.
“Come on, Cole, I don’t think we’re needed here anymore,” Ms. Barry said firmly, leading him from the room and leaving Anne and Gilbert alone at last.
“Sorry I was late,” Anne apologized. “At least Cole was able to keep you company. What did you talk about?”
Gilbert considered telling her all about it.
Then he considered it again.
“Oh, just the weather.”

Post two
Diana
Diana smiled indulgently resting a hand on Donna’s shoulder.
“Hello Donna, it is wonderful to see you again, I have some exciting news.”
Donna
She fidgeted awkwardly trying to act like she hadn't been eavesdropping.
Diana
“You are finally going to see the Man’s World. Go pack your bags, we will leave once you say your goodbyes. We can discuss the rules of your mission in my plane.”
Her excitement was only shown by the joyful flash in her eyes.
Donna attempted to keep her face in a soft smile with her eyes telling her emotions
much like her older sister does, as she made her way towards her home.
Scene 6
Bruce sat at the kitchen counter a cup of steaming coffee in one hand, while his face rested heavily in the other.
Alfred
Alfred curved around Bruce to top off his drink and use a rag to clean up a puddle of coffee Bruce had spilled while complaining about League business.
“I don’t understand why you can’t just let the boy have friends, master Bruce.”
Bruce
Bruce looked up exasperated from where his face was resting.
“Because Dick is more skilled and intelligent than all of those other ‘heroes’. I don’t want him to be influenced by those immature, idiotic, side kicks. Who knows what one of those older kids could encourage him to do!? He’s much safer at home.”
He said moving his hand sharply to the left spilling coffee all over the counter.
Alfred sighed deeply moving to clean up the coffee, sending Bruce a disapproving stare while he sheepishly averted his gaze. Dick was upstairs in his beautiful, pink-marbled bathroom leaning over the counter worriedly applying concealer to purple bruises on his neck as Tate Agile played in the background, he stopped for a moment to read to a text from ‘science lab partner’.
Dick
“Come on dude, it's not that big of a deal Bs never gonna know”
Dick sighed becoming even more concerned, he glanced in the mirror frowning at his reflection before replying.
“Idk Babs, I’d be in a ton of trouble if B found out”
He stared at his phone for a couple of seconds then added,
“Especially since you’re like a little too old for me”
Dick’s hand squeezed around his phone as he shut his eyes, he counted to ten silently before exhaling. Pretending he wasn’t waiting for her response he went back to covering up the bruises on his neck, despite his eyes flicking back over to the black screen every couple of seconds.
Yet when the phone finally pinged he hesitated, it wasn't until the second text arrived that he actually answered.
“No, our age difference really isn’t that big, if you think about it people get married with like a 10 year diff.”
“Are you gonna come out w me tonight?”
Dick sighed softly, his cheeks lighting up pink.
“Yeah I got some free time around 12-2am. But we’re just gonna hang out ok, just like a little bit of kissing. No making out or hickies or anything.”
His phone pinged again.
“Haha yeah sure that's what you said last time.”
“What's up w your schedule man? 12-2am is so random.”
“You might not need sleep but I do, next time we should just meet up during like second period or something.”
Dick’s frown deepened.
“I’m not skipping school. I think you’re a bad influence on me:(“
“You know we don’t have to do anything when we meet up we could just cuddle or something.”
He paused before deleting the last message.
“Ha, maybe I like making you into a bad boy”
“See you tonight, maybe I’ll make you break into the school to find the best secret makeout place!”
Dick set his phone face down, scratching at his arm he went back to covering up those bruises.
Scene 7
Wally was in his tiny little bathroom that looks like it was designed in the 1950’s. He was leaning over the tiled blue and turquoise countertop messing with his forever windswept hair. There was a loud banging at the door as Wally dragged a brush through the birdsnest on top of his head.
Wally
There was a brief pause before Wally once again dragged the brush through his messy hair. The banging returned causing Wally to jerk smacking his hand against the counter, he turned and opened the door staring annoyed at his uncle.
“What?”
Barry
Barry stared back a pleased smirk on his face leaning against the door frame.
“Come on kiddo, we’re gonna be late.”
He reached out and plucked the brush from Wally’s hand as he spoke.
Wally
Wally did a full body groan leaning back, he shot one last mournful look at himself in the mirror before he moved towards the door, his uncle disappearing into his room. Wally sighed rummaging through his room for his suit. “What's the point of having super speed if you’re gonna be late to everything?”
Barry
Barry zipped over to his nephew ruffling his hair, effectively ruining any improvement Wally had managed.
“I ask myself the same question everyday when I show up late for work.”
Flying down the streets of central the two speedsters made haste, two flashes of red and yellow sped down the streets and around buildings. Stopping quickly at a hotdog vendor, handing the man a red credit card decorated with tiny lightning bolts, the city's way of thanking the heroes. Before getting back on the road.
Flash
“So kiddo, are ya nervous?”
Flash called stuffing a whole hot dog in his mouth.
Kidflash
Kidflash made a contemplative noise, looking down at his feet.
“Well yeah, I’m not exactly good at making friends,... or being cool.”
Both speedsters came to a halt, Kidflash resumed looking down self-deprecatingly, shoving the last 12 hotdogs into his mouth. Flash slipped behind him resting a hand on his shoulder.
Flash
“Don’t worry kiddo, just be yourself they’re gonna love you!”
He punctuated his statement by ruffling his nephew’s hair one last time. The two then proceeded, one at a time to enter the transporter.
Scene 8
Kidflash stepped into the JL headquarters quickly moving to catch up with his uncle as he sped towards the monitor room.
Flash
“Welcome to the Justice League break room!”
Flash called happily swinging his arms open to fully display the room. He leaned in close,
“It used to just be the monitor room but we all started to hang around here, mostly because Wonder Woman and Supes like to annoy Bats.”
He said with a nod.
Wonder Girl sat alone on the edge of one of the ugly green couches, sipping on a mug of herbal tea periodically.
Flash
Flash bumped his shoulder against Kidflash’s, whispering an encouraging,
“You got this kiddo!”
The Flash then departed, walking over towards Batman and Wonder Woman chatting by the supercomputer both holding steaming cups of coffee.
Kidflash
Taking a deep breath and gathering all his courage Kidflash confidently strided over to where Wonder Girl was perched. Looming over her he plastered on his best ‘Wall-man’ smirk. Wonder Girl cocked a single eyebrow as a supercilious look settled on her lips.
“Hey gorgeous, I hope you brought your library card because you can totally check me out!”
He flinched expecting to be hit or splashed by her tea.
Wonder Girl
“Wow, I’m already regretting this,”
Wonder Girl huffed glaring at Kidflash
“Maybe I should’ve stayed home,”
She mumbled quietly to herself.
Speedy
Speedy came up behind Kf’s right purposely smacking their shoulders together before plopping down on the couch causing Wonder Girl’s tea to slosh spilling over the rim and roll down the side of her thigh.
“Ew, dude have you ever actually gotten a girl with that line?”
He asked his arms resting on the top of the couch. He then raised his hand in a halting motion.
“Nevermind don't answer that, you have loner-loser written all over you.”
Kidflash
Kidflash lost his composure striking his arms out, before bringing his hand back around to point towards himself.
“Hey! I get tons of ladies!”
Speedy
“Yeah whatever dude,”
Speedy cut him off waving his hand still resting on the top of the couch, looking in the opposite direction of the scene before him.
Garth
Garth parted from his King’s side as they entered the break room with a nod, he walked towards the other heroes, his dark eyes calculating.
“Hello, I’m Garth.”
He said before sitting down on the couch next to Speedy.
Speedy
Speedy made a face.
“Great intro fishboy! But shouldn’t you have like a superhero name?”
Garth
“No, I don’t have a secret identity.”
Garth spoke, his tone relaying how idiotic he thought Speedy was.
Kidflash
“What about protecting your family man?”
Kidflash asked, lifting both his eyebrows, he was never able to just move one, leaning towards Garth.
Garth
Garth’s eyebrows pulled together as frustration took over.
“I don't wear a mask, villains will know who I am regardless.”
Speedy
“Wonder Girl doesn’t wear a mask,”
Speedy said leering at Garth.
“Maybe we should come up with a dumb superhero name for you, personally I like Fishboy!”
Kidflash laughed loudly, Wonder Woman groaned standing up and walking towards her sister.
She was stopped by the Flash calling them over in an energetic voice waving the rest of the sidekicks towards them.
Green Arrow
Green arrow spoke first giving all of the teens a cursory glance before focusing completely on his own sidekick.
“Now listen up, this mission is very important to your future as legitimate heroes.”
Within his brief pause Black Canary sighed heavily at Green Arrow's natural talent for being a terrible parent. He moved one hand to his hip as he spoke lightly elbowing Aquman in the process.
“All ya gotta do is sit and watch your targets,”
Once again there was a lapse in his speech when he turned to check that Batman had brought up the images of the targets and the suspicious big black bags, as well as the address of their hideout. After seeing Batman had in fact project the correct information, Green Arrow nodded to himself before turning back toward the sidekicks. Jerking his thumb backwards, he continued.
“These are them.”
He took a moment to clear his throat at the odd phrasing.
Flash
Flash took that moment to take over patting his colleague’s shoulder as he stepped closer to the center of the group.
“We’ve been monitoring these guys’ set up for a couple weeks. We think that they’re smuggling something illegal in those big black bags-”
Speedy
“What do you mean “illegal” things?! Don't we get to know if there's gonna be guns or drugs or something, idiot-man!”
Speedy cut in sharply placing both hands on his hips and leaning forward, aggressively sneering in the Flash’s face.
Green arrow placed a hand on each side of Speedy’s chest pushing him back as Flash stood there shocked.
Flash
“So we’ll drop ya off at their hideout, be very careful sneaking into the building and while choosing stalking positions. If they begin to pack up and leave or the situation starts to turn violent, stay safe and contact us before attempting to fight. If they have guns, retreat to the transporter immediately.
Batman then swiveled around in his chair, sending a questioning glance at Wonder Woman from across the room, ignoring the conclusion of Superman’s story much to his disappointment.
Batman
“Why would you send these children out into the field if you don't trust them to fight without supervision?”
It was a statement rather than a question, challenging all of the other mentors.
Wonder Woman answered anyway with a judgemental look of her own, but Green Arrow was the one who spoke.
Green arrow
Green arrow took several long strides towards batman.
“Well we’re not just gonna leave our kids at the mercy of a bunch of gun wielding scumbags. I mean, Flash can’t even stand a chance against a handgun, do ya think any side kick could survive that?!”
Batman
Batman glared at him but spoke in a calm voice, only failing a little to keep the smugness out of his tone.
“Robin could.”
Aquaman
Green Arrow geared up to make another loud and spity remark but Aquaman spoke up for the first time since the debriefing began.
“If he is so proficient then why is he not here?”
He questioned with far more smugness in his tone.
Batman
“Because Robin is currently working on his own personal mission tonight.”
The statement was followed by Batman swinging his chair back around and continuing to type up a mission statement.
The group dispersed most of the sidekicks getting last minute pep talks, Kidflash who reached out to his uncle grabbing his elbow as he went to go carbo-load.
Flash
The flash turned to look at his nephew.
“What’s up kiddo?”
He asked, placing a hand on each of his shoulders looking at his face in concern.
Kidflash
Kidflash looked down taking a deep breath before locking eyes with his uncle.
“I-I don't know if I can do this uncle B.”
Flash
Flash answered with a sigh rubbing rough but soothing circles on his shoulders and nape.
“Alright listen kiddo, ya made a jerk out of yourself.”
kidflash‘s face whipped up to face his uncle.
“I know I flirt with all the ladies but I do so in a joking manner that means no harm or a promise for furthering the relationship...just apologize to Wonder Girl.”
Kidflash made a face at the ground scuffing his shoe against the shiny tile floor.
“Make some small talk when appropriate on the mission and you’ll have three new best friends in no time!”
Flash turned him around to face the other sidekicks and smacked him on the back pushing him forward.
Scene 9
A wide shot of the seedier area of Arizona, several of the lamp posts have been shattered and no longer work, streams of light shine across the wet road through boarded up windows of an old warehouse. The sidekicks crouched behind a stack of molding crates, listening intently as the goons played cards and chatted about their personal lives, peering at them periodically.
Roy
Roy groaned softly clunking his head against the rotten wood.
“This is so boring! They aren’t doing anything, I say we just jump ‘em now!”
Roy whispered looking expectantly at his teammates.
Garth
Garth glared annoyed, grabbing Speedy’s wrist in a surprisingly strong grip.
“We were given direct orders-”
Speedy
Speedy shoved his flat palm into Garth’s face creating space between them.
“Calm down Fishboy, I’d never go against our wise and fearless mentors’ orders,”
Speedy sneered, ripping his arm from Garth and rubbing his wrist.
