A blank page is a place to list the creation we weren't given. A shopping list of eternity where we're never too sick to swallow fresh blueberries and where the dance never ends. A blank page is a paper bird to fold up and fly. I can't change anything but I am a poet and if I can't trust God I must speak for the world and my friends. Want more. Want so much more. Test each day and night for ripeness like a melon at the market. You're crucified on the hands of a clock, pull out those nails. I'm throwing you a rope of words. Hold on.

Karen Mathison Schmidt (American, born 1957) Edgewood Memory, 2012 oil on Gessoboard 24 x 24 inches Private collection Artist statement: 'I’m an artist living in the farm country of north Louisiana, along with my husband, our three cats and seven (yeah, 7!) dogs. I love to paint everything (including the walls in our house) and find constant inspiration in my daily life: dogs, cats, cows, horses, trees, fields, ponds and bayous, morning light, afternoon light ... you get the idea. My work is greatly inspired by the style of America’s Golden Age of Illustration, particularly the work of Howard Pyle, N. C. Wyeth, Maxfield Parrish, Jessie Wilcox Smith, Elizabeth Shippen Green and others. I’ve been painting my whole life, and I have sold my work to patrons all over the USA, Canada, the UK and Europe.”

People rightfully hate on Rupi Kaur for her obnoxiously over-enjambed poems but I feel like we don't hate enough on all the academic poetry that's just a tumblr post with line breaks in it.

today emmanuel helped a bunch of people in many little ways but he also broke away to have a little while for himself, listening to the cracking amateur recording of a beat poetry recital he experienced live a couple decades ago. he had good old vintage headphones, sat cross-legged and closed his eyes, recalling the faces of all the people that were there, then.
#emmanuel liking subcultures and actually being there for various cultural phenomena as they unfolded is always <3#(currently thinking abt the julia vinograd ginsberg poem)#(but also abt my fave czech beat poet recording)#he was also big on synth music when it started being a thing !! and brian eno !! and punk !!#human em was a punk when he was a kid. that's radical kindness for u <3#also the headphones had me remembering before sunrise the movie and and emmanuel spending night and day talking to someone#getting very deep and personal and then never seeing them again is also a Thing to be explored because that must have happened

From Wikipedia: “Julia Shalett Vinograd (December 11, 1943 – December 5, 2018) was a poet. She is well known as "The Bubble Lady" to the Telegraph Avenue community of Berkeley, California, a moniker she gained from blowing bubbles at the People's Park demonstrations in 1969. Vinograd was awarded a Pushcart Prize for her poem, "For The Young Men Who Died of AIDS," and in 1985 won an American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation. The City of Berkeley, California, awarded her a Poetry Lifetime Achievement Award. On June 5, 2004, Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates declared that day to be "Julia Vinograd Day," for representing the spirit of Berkeley: "She gives us a voice when ours vanishes. She gives voice to the homeless, the street performers, the merchant, the coffee drinker, friends and foes alike, and her words, like a sharp knife, cut deep into the truth. She describes us as full of life, and love, and heartache. She makes us honest. We, the eccentric, the lonely, the broken are given a voice."She has been called Berkeley unofficial "poet laureate".” Julia Vinograd at the “Battle of People’s Park” Mural, Berkeley, July 2002 🇺🇦💔🌎💔🌏💔🌍💔🇺🇦 #earth #human #family #america #berkeley #park #peoplesparkberkeley #dream #writer #social #documentary #poet #portrait #photography @hasselblad #hasselblad #camera #mediumformat #fuji @fujifilm_northamerica #film #photography #filmisnotdead #istillshootfilm #pdx #portland #nw #northwest #leftcoast #oregon #streetphotography #ishootfujifilm @hasselbladculture @hasselbladfilmgallery @peoplesparkberkeley 02073107 Fuji NPS160 Hasselblad 500c 120mm Makro-Planar https://www.instagram.com/p/CpLTwNovwIM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Come hear my buddy Steve Arntson play Mozart, Chopin and Schubert to raise money for the Steckel Legal Fund to protect my mom Julie's care. Saturday, October 5, 2-5 PM, at the Northbrae Community Church, 941 The Alameda, Berkeley, CA 94707.
An unscrupulous fiduciary got control of the Steckel Family Trust and refused to move my parents, who both had Alzheimer's, to a higher level of care when they needed it. My Dad died of a possibly preventable accident, and now the fiduciary is trying to prevent my mother from seeing doctors. The concert is pay-what-you-can, and every dollar buys you a raffle ticket for prizes, including a seminude painting of me in my 40s by Deborah Vinograd; a necklace hand-beaded by Julia Vinograd; and a copy of my debut fiction collection GHOSTS AND OCEANS.
