This is my latest piece, one I really poured my heart into. I wanted to focus on creating an intricate and atmospheric design, playing with textures, lighting, and the delicate details in her web. I find myself fascinated with spiders, was inspired by the spotted orb weaver.

Did you know that only female orb weavers create those classic webs? Once males mature, they stop weaving altogether. Instead, they dedicate their energy to finding a mate, often wandering far and wide in search of a partner.

It would be for both my Addams Family AU and for just Rise, I think it'd be able to work lore-wise for both so why not

She lives in a village of fellow Jorogumo, long before the existence of humans. She appeared out of the forest one day, being taken in by one of the kinder women, who tended to her like a daughter.

But the girl held a dark, festering greed inside her, something the others scorned her for. And what she didn't find useful, she forced aside :)

Years ago, VaatiVidya held an art contest in which we designed our own concepts for prosthetic arm attachments for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. This was my submission - the Jorōgumo, a man-catcher type tool.

This was my first serious foray into weapon design. There are probably things I would change now, but I still had a blast and learned a lot! And there were many other amazing submissions as well

(and yep, this took heavy inspiration from the actual Jorōgumo spider. As an arachnophobe, I did NOT have a good time looking through ref pics)

Trigger warnings for blood and implied death, Day 23: gore

This is probably the darkest thing I've made. :p

I'll be honest "gore" was the only prompt on this list I flat out disliked. But I tried my best to work within the prompt regardless, and it's still pretty soft. XP

I've made plenty of jokes that Arachnia eats humans before, cause she's a jorogumo, it's what they do. But at the very least, Arachnia has standards, and only eats terrible people. Like the creep from that one Hailey Anne side quest.

Hope you enjoy, and if this ain't your thing, don't worry, likely to be the only time I depict such degree of violence.

I challenged my friends and I to drawing ourselves with yokai powers like those in dandadan. I picked a Jorōgumo.

I would love to see other artist do this concept for themselves.

OP nicknamed this kimono 'Temptation of the Spider's Web', a nod to the fact jorogumo also used to designate dangerous youkai who loved to lure humans, especially men, and then devour them. They appeared as partly or full humans, always taking the shape of beautiful and entrancing women.

Their name was originally written with 女郎 kanji lit. meaning “whore” which may explain the association often found in tales between them and classical yujo (prostitute) features and tools – such as cord instruments (like shamisen, or sometimes biwa).
