Day After Election Day

I never talk about politics here (or I try not to), but today is the day after Election Day and I know there's a lot of my followers that are feeling, well, uneasy and sad.

In 2016, in the days after that Election where Trump defeated Clinton, I found myself thinking about Leonard Cohen's 1988 song "Everybody Knows" and that very week Mr. Cohen passed away. The lyrics stung:

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed Everybody knows that the war is over Everybody knows the good guys lost Everybody knows the fight was fixed The poor stay poor, the rich get rich That’s how it goes Everybody knows

Today I thought I'd share the Concrete Blonde cover from the 1990 film Pump Up The Volume. Now I look at this song a little different than I did in 2016. Now I find myself thinking about the conclusion of Pump Up the Volume, where Mark Hunter AKA Hard Harry pays a price for his pirate radio station, but in the end he fought the good fight, talked about things that needed to be talked about and encouraged his followed to "Talk Hard" and "Steal the Air". Keep fighting the good fight and remember the words of Mr. Joe Strummer:

I leave you with Jon Stewart's post-Election thought: “I promise you, this is not the end. We have to regroup, and we have to continue to fight and continue to work day in and day out to create a better society for our children, for this world, for this country, that we know is possible. It’s possible.” Whoever you voted for or however you're feeling, that's good advice!
