"DESPERATE GANG COUNTERFEITERS," Kingston Daily Standard. December 20, 1913. Page 1. --- Five Men Were Placed Under Arrest at Lavaltrie, Que. ---- ANOTHER AT MONTREAL ---- Latter Was Employed by Herald - Their Headquarters Fitted Up Like Arsenals. ---- Montreal, Que., Dec. 20. - With the arrest of Lavaltrie, Que., of five men, as announced yesterday, the police have run to earth a desperate gang of counterfeiters. The names of the men who are present in jail at Joliette under a strong guard are: Bartholomee Caron, Frederick Eaton, Edouard Pariseau, Philip Bousquet, and Eugene Gagne. One man was arrested here, Alfred Grenier, an engraver in the employ of The Herald Publishing Co.

Besides the arrest of six men, the police claim to have seized a most elaborate counterfeiting plant, including printing press, plates, specially prepared paper and everything necessary for the counterfeiting of United States ten dollar gold certificates.

Chief McCaskell stated that the farm house where the gang operated was fitted up like an arsenal. Shot guns and revolvers, with plenty of ammunition, were found and the gang evidently intended to put up a fight.

ADVENTURES Family Weekend Getaway For Labor Day weekend, we had a chalet rental to celebrate my in-laws’ marriage anniversary with the whole family. "COURT DECLARES WILL OF MAN WAS FORGERY," Montreal Star. July 10, 1934. Page 5. ---- Sister Found to Have Written Document ---- When Joseph Rondeau, a bachelor of St. Jean de Matha died in September, 1932, he left an estate of $20,000. No will could be found at the time but shortly after Delia Rondeau, a sister, produced what she declared to be a holograph will signed by Joseph which read: "1st. September, 1932. I give all to my sister, Delia, what I possess, my goods as well as money I give them all to Delia." She produced this at the prothonotary's office at Joliette for but Mrs. probate, Pacific Geoffroy, another sister, claimed it was a forgery and fraud and took action in the courts to secure her share of the estate on the ground that Joseph had died intestate.

The case was heard by Mr. Justice Forest in the Superior Court, Joliette, and in a judgment given yesterday the court held that the will was a forgery, that perjury had been committed by the defendant, and that the action would be maintained with costs. His Lordship pointed out that Delia Rondeau was liable to prosecution for the falsehoods she had told in court in an effort to take the estate away from the other heirs, that there was conclusive evidence that the writing on the document was in Delia's hand-writing, and did not resemble that of her brother as shown on other documents.

The defendant's attitude throughout the trial had been hostile, hesitant and in bad faith, and Mr. Justice Forest commented that one witness, Theona Rondeau who had supported the petition for probate had admitted that she was illiterate and could not recognize any signature and that "she was weary of the role which Delia made her play in the affair and had consulted her confessor for the peace of her conscience."
