I'm bracing myself for the pro palistine version of sandy hook truthers about the Bibas children and their mother.
I wonder how soon the pro pal mobs of english speaking westeners will be screeching for pictures of those two dead children, just like they slurped up any and every picture of a mangled child's body killed in war regardless of which war? I wonder how soon it will take them to call them all actors? How soon they will look at pictures of those boy's father looking for "clues" to what "real" grief looks like?
Damn the pro palistinians for all they have already done. Damn them twice for all that they will do. Damn them for all time for doing it all for sadistic pleasure.

trump winning mostly due to channeling the economic concerns of american voters into a better campaign (and probably also a few bomb threats) being blamed by hardline dems on arab/muslim/jewish voter treachery is pretty medieval europe coded i have to say
#managing to disappoint both ‘’sides’’ on palestine in the country literally using israel as a vassal state is pretty impressive#all three are teeny tiny demographics in the us to begin with where most vote for dem usually & only the really conservative ones vote for#republicans (as w/ most american minorities). no matter your stance blaming arab/muslim/jewish (let alone single-issue palestine/israel#voters) is laughable. this is coming from an israeli-american w/ such voters in my immediate family who i strongly disagree with#trump didn't even win in dearborn bc most people voted for him. he won bc the vote was split. most people voted for harris or stein. like#please talk to your trumpie parents instead#there's many more non-arab/muslim/jewish(/latino fwiw) white voters mindlessly backing trump there are arab/muslim/jewish americans combine#the voting habits of like 4% of the us population shouldn't be getting this much outsized sensational attention in that regard

Happy WIP Wednesday!
thanks for the tag @thelettersfromnoone! 🎅🏼
please share your last sentence; or, if you don’t have one, share a plot bunny or idea! (OR sketch for your artwork!)
last one before christmas! here’s a snippet of my everlark christmas drabble (that is of course much longer than i intended)🎄
“So remind me of our menu tonight?”
Peeta went on to describe the feast he had planned, which Katniss was already familiar with since she had helped gather much of the items. Roasted duck, brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes. Cheese buns and spinach pastries. Too many types of cookies and apple pie. Normally, Katniss’s mouth would be watering just from the conversation. Currently, the only thing that sounded appetizing was the cheese buns.
“Well if we’re gonna feed the town tonight, shouldn’t we get started?” Katniss asked.
“Soon, but not yet,” Peeta responded.

mirrors and reflections in yellowjackets (part one: the pilot)

yellowjackets pilot (2019) / behind the draped mirror by colin dickey (2015) / on dionysus by svetlana kirute (2022) / venus in venice by anne hollander (1998) / venus with a mirror by titian (1555) / aphrodite and mirrors, author unknown (2009)
#i will do these for the other episodes eventually. because mirrors/reflections/sight are so huge on yj#and also because i am personally obsessed with mirror mythology#and both the jewish side and the southern american sides of my family made damn sure we covered mirrors when speaking of the dead#and when i tell you i gasped at both jackie and laura lee being the ones to hold handheld mirrors up#jackie taylor#shauna shipman#jackie x shauna#laura lee yellowjackets#lottie matthews#lottie lee#van palmer#yellowjackets pilot#yellowjackets

At the register and the info desk all day tomorrow. Brainstorming a Cora Levinson backstory fanfiction because assimilated, first-gen upwardly mobile child of nouveau riche parents, with a Jewish immigrant dad and a Midwestern Christian mother, who grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio during the Reconstruction Era, is such historian bait to me, specifically, I actually cannot resist the premise
#This character isn't even Henry James or Edith Wharton she is Something Else#Although there's overlap#The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Jewish American Princess#I'm putting paternal family lore in this fanfiction#Downton Abbey liveblog

Chaim Gross, Happy Children, 1973
Website Description:
“Chaim Gross grew up in a large and loving Jewish family with ten brothers and sisters. When he was very young, Gross saw his parents nearly beaten to death for their religious beliefs by Cossack soldiers. As an adult, he compensated for this trauma by sculpting large families, as in Happy Children, which shows two small children emulating the adults who dance with them. The larger figures and the ring of bronze symbolically protect the children, as Gross's parents had been unable to do”.

So I’ve been celebrating Shabbat for a few months (it’s unbelievably amazing btw, I rest, light candles, I limp through Hebrew but I can feel it getting easier to say and understand, have wine, feel like a winner because no one has killed me this week.) but I don’t always want/make bread. I love bread, I love making it, having bread all week, and braiding it but my husband can’t eat it so one loaf is a lot of bread. But I sometimes wonder if challah is the only option. Putting eggs, honey, and butter in a bread reads as a kind of cake to me. It also makes sense to me that cake is fitting for celebration and contemplation about the good in life.
My question is: does jumblr know if I can make babka or rugula instead for Shabbat? Can I make gluten free cookies as long as it has over 1/8th oat flour? Maybe even Cinnamon buns fit a lot of the same ingredients as challah? Not to get all rabbinical, but does the Hebrew for what bread you have on Shabbat specify bread as opposed to cakes (which I don’t think was a separate category of food from bread 3000 years ago? The internet says challah started in 15th century Eastern Europe.
The truth is I’m not following a lot of rules for Shabbat anyway, although I try to get close each Friday. I want it to be Jewish, not just a jew making a type of Shabbat type thing on Fridays. so is this: “in for a penny in for a pound” challah is traditional, it must be bread not cake, or is it: as long as you usually do challah you can make cake and treats every once in a while?
#jumblr#shabbat#I’m so sorry Jews in progress#I know it’s probably annoying to see a Jew who doesn’t have as strong a foundation as you#the 1940s athiest USSR communist phase that a lot of American Jewish people hit my family tradition hard.#israeli#judaism

Serious question what's up with everyone making fun of country nowadays and invoking tropes I don't think I've even seen
"it's backwards and conservative" Do you have any familiarity with Johnny Cash? An activist for Native American rights whose iconic image is the Man In Black as a symbol for the disadvantaged? The songs Folsom Prison Blues? Man In Black? And I know Tumblr loves Dolly Parton as a person, for good reason - 9 To 5, her signature workers' rights protest, isn't quite country, but most of her discography is.
"it's too religious" Fair - several musically excellent songs lean too heavily into Christian themes for me to enjoy as a Jew (though I'm sure Christian audiences love them, progressive ones too). But many of those religious songs evoke more universally applicable ideas of brotherhood, hope, and justice - and are those really things worthy of mockery?
"the emotions are shallow" I See A Darkness is one of the most authentic portrayals of depression in music I know of. Many country songs have themes of love, heartbreak, and drama/tragedy - but those are common to music across nearly all genres, even if specific songs don't land for everyone.
At the end of the day it's just a music genre, yes, but one that does have emotional significance for many people, cultural significance for many others, and as much diversity in content and performer talent as any genre of entertainment.
And it's not very fun to have cherished childhood memories and music that genuinely resonates with you mocked just about everywhere you turn aside from people who are actually fans of it.
#not liking the sound or style of course is a matter of taste#there are plenty of musical genres I have no problem with but can't get into#inspired by a post going around which was plenty funny and 'satisfying'#but the punchline was getting revenge on someone annoying by forcing them to listen to country#to be clear I have no cultural stake in this#I'm Jewish have always lived in Asia and my American family members are just barely under the Mason-Dixon line#just grew up on music like Cash and Parton and am currently obsessed with a much lesser-known folk/country singer#I'm sure for people who do see it as their cultural heritage it's often still more unpleasant to see it mocked#also I'm trying to write a folk/country album myself#and when I told my d&d crowd the first reaction any of them gave was 'country? I feel sorry for your taste'#so uh maybe don't mock things that hold emotional value for people#is a lot of the thesis here

the fact that yankee movies and shows consistently use not-even-light-haired people to play blonds and, like, targaryens, just honestly genuinely gets on my nerves.
like i love orlando bloom as legolas as much as the next person but for fuck's sake you'd have such an easier time if you actually used blonds???? it's not like blonds are cryptids?!?!?!?!?!?!
#see also: supposedly naturally redheaded characters not being cast with redheaded actors#see also: wakandan royal family being african-americans/black latin americans/afro-caribbean ppl. shuda cast east africans for all#look i just get triggered by demographical inaccuracy#natasha romanoff shoulda been played by a ginger slav. at least scarjo's mom is ashkenazi but scarjo's still a yank and i wanna hear accent#and wanda and pietro shoulda been played by romani actors and been jewish on-screen (:#also re nat ofc it makes sense she would be fluent but c'mon. and like think abt the blehk widow movie#ik ppl loove to say 'its just translated for our convenience' but that is potatis#i wanna see ppl speaking their own language amongst their own ppl fuck oaff

It just occurred to me how my parents "be a computer scientist or an engineer! It pays really well!" Is just the current iteration of the doctor-or-lawyer stereotype
#in reality it's a my grandparents were immigrants program#and they didn't have easy access to education#so of course now that I do I should take advantage of it#even though college isn't the right choice for everyone#and I should get a well-paying job while I'm at it#this is my goyische family too#and this is why I think a lot of “Jewish experiences” are influenced by constantly having to move around#and also that for most American Jews it's our great great grandparents or sooner who came here#Jewish#garlic posts

The Zamoyski Museum makes videos with historical reenactors in character as the household domestic staff and there is a maid named Stefcia who I think is supposed to be a working-class girl from the 19th century and she speaks Polish with a Ukrainian accent and I have been driving myself insane in an attempt to place the dialect
#I cannot overemphasize how many women in the Polish territories between the late 19th and early 20th centuries were named Stefania#It's like being an American Boomer called Susan#I love that Stef and her sisters really have the most generic Galician girl names of their generation#Besides like Maria#Anna Helena Rozalia Stefania. Oh I'm sure you were born in Kraków between 1870 and 1890#To an assimilating bourgeois Jewish family

rewatching an american tail with my little sister atm and its just really interesting to me how the same don bluth who made anastasia made this movie.
#i am of course not saying that the tsar's family deserved what happened to them#however the movie portrays the romanovs as a whole under a positive light#which an american tail definitely... doesnt#an american tail is quite literally about a jewish family being forced to flee russia due to the romanov's tyrnanny#idk just an interesting juxtaposition#i have my own issues with anastasia in the sense i find it disrespectful to both the victims of the royal regime and the royal children#but this post isnt about that
