Hi! I'm Mercury, a young woman who writes, acts, sings, and enjoys good stories. Mostly Gilbert & Sullivan, DS9 (lonely Kirashir shipper in a cruel world), and Bonanza (Adam Cartwright my first love) also home to an ever-expanding roster of great fandom interests and some original work.

annoyed
had meeting scheduled today to plan some things for tomorrow
decided not to go on family outing to make sure I'd be available for the zoom I don't like being left out of plans
hardly anyone shows up so we talk for a few minutes and go "well guess we have to plan it over text"
so I miss fun trip for basically nothing only one person even said they couldn't make it

I have just been informed that when VeggieTales adapted Israel in Egypt, they did it as a Bonanza thing and Joseph was straight up called Little Joe

I assume that would be part of the cook's job
But it can't be that much harder than managing huge engineering projects and running a ranch...
joe cartwright in his late teens/early twenties: why does everyone baby me? i can do important grownup things myself let me prove stop trying to help! me, same age range: doing dishes... hard...
#do they do their own laundry and cleaning? they don't seem to have any other servants but I have no idea what the norms were then#for a family of that social class

it's never gonna be all right
#reading some sweet hopeful coming of age story about young adults starting on their independent adult lives#and the characters involved are eighteen and holding down jobs and moving out and going to college#and the main point of angst by the ending is that they won't be constantly together and with their families anymore#I'm (censored) years older than them and didn't even finish school or earn one shekel from my own efforts#this is getting ridiculous

hmm. I really don't know how I feel about the expression "pound of flesh" still being in common use.
it's probably not going away and all, and hopefully most people using it don't know the source, but...
look "quality of mercy" at least is a nice speech if you ignore the hypocrisy of Portia preaching mercy while about to show none when she wins. it's possible to come across the idea independently of its origin or at least go "yeah mercy is good right".
the other is just... it's bad. it is bad.

I still think the baby should have been Chakotay's. Like come on.

Whoops I think Seven is influencing an OC of mine who is... very much not Seven
#I completely adore Seven as I may have mentioned#but Flora was created to help someone else unpack his emotional struggles and find more peace with himself#she herself has to be emotionally intelligent with regard to both others' feelings and her own

Dreamed that Kes was back but she'd turned evil and was using her newfound Ancient powers to torment the crew so they'd help her in some kind of quest for ultimate truth
She had this little squad of fellow ascended beings under her leadership, but some of them were starting to have doubts about her methods and trying to protect her former friends (but she was more powerful)
Also... Chakotay, I think? Had a teenage son, who was somehow taken prisoner by the Klingons while all this was going on, and trying to influence one of his captors who happened to also be a teenager trying to prove himself as a warrior?
I think he had the appearance of that kid from Bonanza "The Last Haircut" for whatever reason.
And oh yeah a bunch of this was taking place on Yeomen's closing night. Because it was.

still angry at having to emphatically explain to the autism assessment lady that yes I do very much prefer socialising to being alone (still not sure she believed me)
yes clearly I spend those hours alone crying and listless because I like it more than interacting with people
#also the report had lots of recommendations for help with social skills#finding community to build 'autistic pride'#help with executive function and focus was maybe a footnote if even mentioned#focus issues barely even noted in the report aside from 'yes this is common for autism'#I know how to socialise. I know when I'm doing it wrong and when I am the problem is usually anxiety not being bad at cues.#we're supposed to have a followup meeting at some point how do I say#'sorry it feels like you were just hearing what you expected to and not what I actually am'#and if I can get help or accomodations based on a wrong diagnosis I'd literally be the 'gets neurodivergent diagnosis for personal benefit'#that people scaremonger about#please I just want to be able to function and concentrate on a task that's all I need

doing it again aren't I
getting snarky and argumentative and pushing on with edgy jokes or strong opinions past where people are invested or willing to debate
this is probably about "start shutting up before you burn bridges" time...
why does it keep happening I know I hate people trying it on me

This constant "hey look a new way home! how will we destroy it or miss the chance this time?" thing is starting to feel like watching a Cartwright fall in love...
By which I mean it's very hard to get invested every time when you know it'll never last

So Kim is from South Carolina?
I could definitely tell by the California accent.
