Comic Con: The Return of Mindstorm

The Boys Cast x Teen!Actress!Fem!Reader

✧.* author's note: this is my first ever fic! i've been a fan of the boys for some time now and have always wanted to write something but have never found the time💀 BUT ANYWAY- let me know if i should write anything else :)) - ava ❤ *.✧

// SLIGHT-ISH SPOILERS FOR SEASON FOUR OF 'THE BOYS' & DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE- YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED //

description: use of y/n, HORRIBLE jokes 💀, y/n is about seventeen / eighteen years of age in this fic, ALSO sorry for any spelling / grammar mistakes 😭

summary: y/n surprises the cast of 'the boys' by joining them in their panel at comic con to help announce the return of her character 'mindstorm'!!

you ever had one of those “let me take this all in” moments? because that is what y/n is having right now.

y/n was backstage of the panel for the cast of the show ‘the boys’. she was beyond excited as she was listening to her fellow castmates talk about their experiences while also answering fan questions. most of the cast was attending, supporting each other, besides karl urban (who was one of her favorite castmates, but she would never tell anyone that).

y/n believed that she wouldn’t be able to make it to help promote their accomplishments at this panel because she was attending another panel at comic con, to show her support for her other project, ‘deadpool and wolverine’ (we play laura [x-23]). We ended up showing the audience the movie at this panel so she left shortly after the screening started, hoping to be able to make it to her other panel to help show her love and support to this amazing cast.

y/n sent a quick message to jeffrey d. morgan (who she met when filming as a small role on ‘the walking dead’), making him aware that she was on the way to the panel,

‘hey, finishing up with d&w! be there as quick as i can!!’, y/n types quickly, and she almost immediately gets a response,

‘perfect timing sweetheart, we are getting ready to start! i told eric you were coming to stop by and he almost screamed out of excitement 😂 😂 can’t wait to see you!!’.

y/n laughs quietly at the response from jeffrey and practically runs as fast as she can to hall h.

her character within this show, mindstorm, is similar to kimiko’s character, in season one of the show she was experimented on at the very young age of fourteen by the hands of vought. however, she has been given telekinetic abilities that she uses to her advantage…most of the time (more like ‘all the time’). the boys’ discovered her along with kimiko and she has been with them ever since, joining them in their journey of taking down homelander, taking down vought.

y/n had become very close friends with karen fukuhara, who played kimiko on the show. they spent a bunch of time on set together in season one, and y/n deeply missed being able to hang out with her best friend, so to say she was happy to be back would be an understatement.

but at the end of the season, the audience believed her character was dead, the last time the audience saw this character is when she was in a fight against the seven, which she sadly did not win. there’s an explosion, blah blah blah…and obviously she couldn’t have survived that…right? WRONG. the audience is very surprised to see that, at the end of season four, she is being held by vought in a cryosleep chamber along with someone her character hasn’t met yet, soldier boy. people had many positive reactions to see that her character was still alive, and y/n couldn’t be happier.

by the time y/n arrives at the panel, she is struggling for air as she feels like she had ran a marathon by trying to get here but y/n couldn’t help but smile at the monitors backstage, watching the lovely cast joke with their fans, who came to show their undying devotion towards the show.

y/n is brought out of her head when she hears her name, “we see that at the end of season four y/n’s character ‘mindstorm’ is very much alive, what do you have to say about her return? because our girl better be in season five!”

before the fan could even finish their question, the audience erupts in cheers at the mention of y/n and her character. y/n laughs, waiting for the response from eric kripke, her director who was also in attendance. eric laughs along with the rest of the cast as he waits for the audience to die down from their cheering, “well we originally wanted y/n to rejoin us for season three, however, as most people know, she was filming with marvel, which first of all, how ironic is that?!”

y/n laughs as the cast and audience break out into bits of laughter at the irony of how she is in both of these projects. “so obviously we couldn’t have her in season three like we hoped, but we did reach out to her about being in our final scene of this season,” eric continues, “and luckily, the timing worked out perfectly and we were able to have our beloved ‘mindstorm’ return”. eric smirks and he looks at jeffery, as the audience once again cheers loudly.

as time passes by, more questions get asked by fans and more jokes get made by the cast, y/n is practically crying of laughter by the time she is getting ready to get announced onto the stage by jeffery and eric. they just showed some test footage for the new season of ‘gen-v’ when eric speaks up,

“actually we have here another little surprise for you guys, there is someone that we did just cast…like she’s a brand new actress and i’m just really excited for you guys to meet her, so if it’s cool with you guys like i just wanna bring her out and introduce her to everyone,” y/n rolls her eyes and smiles at the statement that eric just said. “yeah, why not,” jeffery replies, smiling. “okay, come on out,” eric says, also smiling.

as soon as y/n walks out from the side of the stage, the audience immediately bursts into screams and cheers as the cast looks at y/n in surprise because none of them expected her to attend because of her other panel with ‘deadpool and wolverine’.

karen is the first to jump out of her chair as she runs straight to y/n and pulls her into a tight hug, “oh my gosh!! i’ve missed you so freaking much, thank gosh you’re here!,” karen laughs. y/n laughs along with her as she puts an arm around her to walk and greet her other castmates.

she pats her other former castmates shoulders as she walks by their sitting figures, but stops to wrap her arms around the neck of jensen ackles from behind, as she and him had grown closer ever since shooting their scene for their end of season four.

the next person she formally hugs is antony starr, who she had grown very fond of when having to shoot very graphic scenes for the show (NOTHING SEXUAL YOU WEIRDOS). she wraps her arms around his neck as he lifts her up and spins her around. she giggles as she says, “nice to see you too antony”. he laughs loudly as he plants her back on her feet, “sorry, i just missed having my personal arm rest around”. he laughs again when y/n rolls her eyes at his jab of their height difference.

she then hugs jeffery and eric before sitting down on the chair next to antony that the crew brought out for her. “hello again, hall h!” y/n waves excitedly, as she sees the audience cheer and wave back to her in delight.

“how did your other panel go earlier, y/n?” eric says jokingly, as you can hear his tone change when he says the word ‘other’. y/n laughs along with the rest of the cast and eventually responds with, “oh you know, just great, especially when your lovely castmates are thirty years older than you and are complete nut jobs, what could possibly go wrong?” she says jokingly as she looks around to her other cast mates, who could also fit into that category. they all laugh, seeming to get her joke about their age.

eventually another fan comes to the front to ask a question, “hello, my question is for y/n, so who is your favorite character and your least favorite character from the show-” immediately the crowd is talking amongst themselves, y/n hears a bunch of gossiping from not only the audience but from the cast, “but for your favorite character, you can’t say ‘mindstorm’!” the fan clarifies.

“wow, you were so ready for that,” she laughs and jensen cuts in, “ughh i gotta swallow my ego,” he says jokingly, mimicking her. while y/n leans forward, laughing. “uhh- so i can’t say my own character, but that doesn’t mean that ‘mindstorm’ can’t be your guy’s favorite character, just sayin’” she says in a sweet, innocent voice. the cast bursts into laughter at the girls statement as the crowd cheers before she continues to answer the question from the fan.

“i think i have say…kimiko”. the crowd erupts into cheers at the mention of the character. “oh wow, i saw someone STAND UP for that,” she laughs, “you were just like ‘yeah!!!’”, she continues to laugh as she stands up to imitate the fan who gave karen’s character a standing ovation.

“um…huh…now my least favorite character…hmm..uh wow you're messed up-” y/n and the cast laugh as she struggles to think of her least favorite character from the show. “ummm….huh?…oh no- NO- I GET TO CHOOSE! people are yellin’ names at me. I’M gonna pick.” she says jokingly, and she hears fans start yelling out answers for her to say.

“you have to pick one,” antony says.

“gotta pick one?,” y/n questions back

“i mean, whose that ‘homelander’ dude?” she questions to the audience, in a jokingly manner as she nudges antony with my elbow. the whole cast and crowd burst into laughter at my jab at antony. y/n is laughing so hard she puts her forehead on antony’s shoulder as her own shoulders shake with laughter.

“my favorite character has always been mindstorm, but alright”. antony says with (fake) sadness written on his face. y/n puts her face into her hands as she leans back in her chair, as she feels slightly bad about her joke. “never meet your hero’s guys!” he says, stating this directly to the audience. y/n, once again, has an outburst of laughter.

as this amazing cast continues to make memories with not only each other, but with the audience; y/n realizes how lucky she is and how grateful she is for these people who surround her. y/n was truly happy to be back, and couldn't feel more proud to be apart of this family

Jeffrey Epstein described himself as Donald Trump’s “closest friend” and claimed intimate knowledge of his proclivity for sex, including cuckolding his best friends, according to recordings obtained exclusively by the Daily Beast. The convicted pedophile even boasted of his closeness to Trump and his now-wife Melania by claiming, “the first time he slept with her was on my plane,” which was dubbed the Lolita Express.

Epstein spoke at length about Trump with the author Michael Wolff in August 2017, two years before being found dead in his jail cell. Wolff was researching his bombshell bestseller Fire and Fury at the time. The recordings cast more light on Trump’s long relationship with Epstein, and will add to debate over the character of the Republican candidate, especially his attitudes and conduct toward women, just days before the election. The tapes tell Epstein’s version of the relationship between two former friends and their very different paths: One toward infamy, prison and suicide; the other toward power, the Oval Office and his own criminal conviction for paying hush money to a porn star. Trump’s camp referred to the tapes’ release as “false smears” and “election interference.” The tapes also offer unusual insight into the friendship of two wealthy, powerful men who frequently went out on the town together, prowling for women in New York and Atlantic City. [...]

Asked by Wolff, “How do you know all this?” Epstein replied, “I was Donald’s closest friend for 10 years.” Wolff shared the tape with the Daily Beast ahead of discussing it on his Fire and Fury podcast on Monday. Last Thursday he caused shockwaves by revealing a few seconds of a separate recording in which Epstein spoke in detail about the inner workings of the Trump administration. Wolff also said Thursday that the pedophile showed off photos of Trump with topless young women sitting in his lap. Wolff, a veteran journalist and author who was also the biographer of Rupert Murdoch, has long attracted praise and bromides. When Fire & Fury was published in January 2018, Trump tried to stop it with a failed cease and desist order, then threatened to sue. No case ever materialized, and it sold 5 million copies worldwide. Wolff, who appears regularly on his Fire and Fury podcast, wrote two more books on Trump after Fire and Fury, and about Epstein in 2021’s Too Famous.

Wolff says he has up to 100 hours of recordings of interviews with Epstein, including from using him as a source for Fire and Fury, and from years of meetings when the disgraced financier appeared to want Wolff to write a biography of him. Wolff said he decided to release parts of the archive after a new accuser, a former Miss Switzerland, alleged last week that Trump had groped her in 1992.

[...] Trump’s long friendship with Epstein, which spanned the late 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s has been well documented. In the 1990s, the two publicly partied at Mar-a-Lago and went to a Victoria’s Secret Angels show together. In 2002, Trump told New York Magazine of Epstein, “I’ve known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.” Epstein’s infamous leaked addressbooks had Trump’s own phone number as well as Melania’s, while Trump’s name appeared seven times in the passenger logs of Epstein’s planes. (The books and logs also included princes, politicians and potentates such as Bill Clinton, former British prime minister Tony Blair, former Israeli PM Ehud Barak, Prince Andrew and celebrities and billionaires including Mick Jagger and Les Wexner.)

[...] In 2022 Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former girlfriend who procured him underage girls, would be sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for the sex trafficking of minors. Upon hearing of her arrest in 2020, Trump, then president, said he wished her well. “Her friend or boyfriend was either killed or committed suicide in jail. Yeah, I wish her well… Good luck.” In 2004, Epstein and Trump fell out when they both tried to buy a Palm Beach estate, Maison de L’Amitié, out of bankruptcy. The next year, the FBI began investigating Epstein for child sex trafficking.

In 2019, on the day after Epstein’s arrest, Trump said in the Oval Office, “I was not a fan of his, that I can tell you,” and that they had not been friends for 15 years. He said it “did not much matter” what the fall-out had been over. This September, asked about Epstein by the tech podcaster Lex Fridman, Trump said: “He was a good salesman. He was a hailing, hearty type of guy. He had some nice assets that he’d throw around like islands, but a lot of big people went to that island. But fortunately, I was not one of them.”

The Epstein tape includes an allegation—which is impossible to verify—that Trump had an affair with a politician while in the White House. Epstein offered no proof or sourcing for the claim. He also alleged that Trump cheated on both his first wife Ivana and second wife Marla Maples with “a Black girl.” At one section, Epstein used a Yiddish racial slur to refer to Black women and alleged Trump boasted to him, “I’m f---ing all these Black women.” The tape mixes sexual allegations with other aspects of Trump’s life. Early in the recording Epstein is heard to say, “You probably know he had a scalp reduction. He’s getting the same male pattern baldness that we all have. He had his scalp reduced. It’s hysterical.” Trump has long refused to release full medical records while his White House medical reports did not disclose any prior surgeries.

And Epstein offers his eyewitness account of Trump Tower and Trump’s office where, he said, Trump had “fake honors” on the wall. Trump, he claimed, would yell at his personal assistant Rhona Graff, “who’s a loyal, perfect, secretary,” as well as Matthew Calamari Snr., his bodyguard, and Michael Cohen, his attorney who is now an enemy. Epstein compared Trump to “an emotionally challenged 9-year-old,” and said, “He screams and yells at Rhona more than anybody else. His screaming is how he treats people. He has a tantrum, not a temper. If you don’t understand him, it’s frightening. Once you understand him, it’s sort of silly.” Epstein also told Wolff he had positive things to say about Trump. “He’s charming. In a devious way, he’s charming,” he said. “To some extent it’s a typical tragedy where he believes his own bulls---. He has delusions of grandiosity, then he takes it on board.” He added that he had a “self-deprecating nature” and was “not vulgar.” “He’s funny,” Epstein said. “Self-awareness means you’re self-aware. He’s aware of that person, Donald Trump. He talks about The Trump, The Trumpster. ‘Trump’s getting laid.’”

On the tape Epstein, speaking in a New York accent, also mentioned the rich and powerful. (In a deposition released after his death Epstein admitted under oath that he dropped the names of people he had never met.) The names he mentioned on tape include: Former president Bill Clinton; Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner; then-Defense Secretary James Mattis; and the billionaires Carl Icahn and Tom Barrack, both of whom are friends of Trump. Clinton was a long-standing friend of Epstein but has denied any association after the pedophile’s disgrace in the mid-2000s. Mattis has no known association with him. Ivanka was photographed with him as a child but Kushner has never been known to be linked to him. Barrack appeared in a leaked appointment diary for Epstein from 2016, while Carl Icahn, a corporate raider and long-time Trump friend, was in Epstein’s 1997 address book. Startlingly for a man who became one of the world’s most notorious sex offenders, Epstein on the tapes offers a damning judgment of Trump, telling Wolff, “The moral compass just does not exist.”

The Daily Beast reported that Jeffrey Epstein was Donald Trump's closest friend for about 10 years, according to tapes obtained from the outlet that featured Michael Wolff interviewing the late pedophile.

Hey lovelies. It's almost 2025! Holy moly! I can't even believe it honestly, where has this year gone? I have been so blessed to be able to spent a lot of it with so many of you, and getting to share in your laughter and your tears, and I am so very grateful for that. Tonight I just wanted to send you a quick reminder that if you need to get something off your chest -- please ,oh please, do. I know a lot of us worry about whether or not there are "worse things" going on for other people, and you know what, something is going bonkers for every person everywhere, and if we all just didn't talk to one another every time someone else was struggling with their own issues, no one would ever talk. Of course, be sure to ask if people have spoons, or find a group you know is cool with chatting (and obviously if they're laying in a hospital bed, maybe dont bug that person unless they say its okay)-- but please find someone to talk to. It's easy to fall into the pattern of "I don't want to bother people" or "My problems seem like so much less". You'd be surprised how much of your crew really cares and wants to help. I myself, when things get really tough, feel better when I get to talk to other people about their own issues, because I can put some love out into the world that I'm not feeling as strongly at the moment from elsewhere.

You never know until you ask, so please ask <3 Love you crew, take care of yourselves, ya hear?

• I think Ratchet is a perfect friend for you. He’s sensible, kind, and knows when to give you space as well as cheer you up in times of need. By the way you described yourself, it seems you could better himself too.

• Every human is tiny to him, so don’t worry about being small. I don’t think he categorizes humans by their height anyway, unless they’re an infant or something.

• Ratchet is another one to come off as antisocial, though he does have a talkative side to him. It probably first comes out when he vents to you about the Autobots doing something stupid he doesn’t agree with, and after venting he realizes you’re a nice and understanding person to talk to, and ends up enjoying your company a lot.

• Your good advice really makes him feel more sane too, which is always good in a friendship. If you ever needed to vent, he gives you the best advice and safe space you need as well just as you would do for him.

• Ratchet is one to tell you things straight, he does it to everybody. Like you though i don’t think he nessacerily understands or gets social cues all the time either, especially since some of the thing he says are very random and very out of pocket.

• "How’s it hummin’? 😏"

• Ratchet cares about everyone in the group, even if he doesn’t admit it. I think you could tell this right away, and sometimes speak up for him when he needs it. You understand each other on a weird psychic level.

• Like I said Ratchet is an honest guy, and will straight up tell you when you need to tone it down. On his side he gets stressed easily, and I’m sure there are times where you’d need to help calm him down.

• He thinks you’re a really talented and creative person, though I do admit Ratchet would be that guy where if you mentioned you need something to draw he’d be like "Draw me!"

• Ratchet likes art too, in his own Cybertronian way. Learning about human arts with you is a fun bonding activity for you two!

• The two of you would definitely have fun watching horror movies and true crime as well! Seeing how smart humans can be, and how they can carry out their own crimes really interests him. As for horror movies, he finds them entertaining if not a little frustrating when the characters do something stupid. (Or maybe his calling for horror is just Jeffrey Combs whispering in he ear to watch Re-Animator for the 67th time.)

• Ratchet sometimes likes to be left to his own devices, so he understands you wanting your space as well. Even the times where you chill in the same room, doing separate things are sufficient enough for him.

• Helping him with anything around the lab is much appreciated, though at the same time he does worry about your safety and will constantly watch you like a hawk to make sure you don’t get hurt. Some of the things around his lab are big, and in are no way meant for humans. He doesn’t want to see you hurt.

• Every time you accidentally hurt yourself he goes into mother mode, and treats you immediately. He’s good like that. Bro is literally the mother friend.

• Ratchet is a good friend for you overall. You both seem to understand each other for your individual quirks, and are easily best friends.

Gay TV Show Firsts

On February 9th, 1971 the first explicitly gay character “Steve” appeared on television in season 1 episode 5 “Judging Books by Covers” of the American sitcom All in the Family. This episode made its mark by portraying the opposite of the flamboyant stereotype of gay men (that the main character and best friend of Steve held to believe) by representing a gay man who was the complete opposite: masculine, tough, and a former football player. These attributes lead president at the time Richard Nixon to call out the show for “glorifying homosexuality”. Prior to this there were some coded and repressed gay and lesbian characters, but it was not as clear as to them being homosexual as it was on All in the Family.

The first same sex kiss ever on television was in Australian soap opera The Box in the first episode which premiered on February 11, 1974. The character Vicki Stafford (right) is canonically bisexual.

The American sitcom Hot l Baltimore which ran on ABC for one season in 1975, beginning January 24th, featured tv’s first gay couple, they were also main characters. There was much controversy for this at the time and the couple was not allowed to show any physical intimacy. There was also a viewer discretion warning at the beginning of each episode to warn for “mature themes”.

On February 7th, 1991 legal drama L.A. Law featured the first same sex kiss on American network television in the episode “He’s a Crowd”.

Controversy and support erupted and some advertisers removed their advertisements from the broadcast, while GLAAD praised the episode. One of the actresses reported that the kiss was a ratings ploy with no intention to explore a lesbian relationship. Both characters ended up with men.

This episode gave birth to the TV trope “lesbian kiss episode”, where a typically one off episode character that was a lesbian or bisexual woman would kiss a heterosexual female main character, played for shocks, laughs and ratings boots and is never mentioned again or explored further.

On October 20th of that same year Fox’s sitcom Roc featured the first gay wedding in season 1 episode 8 titled “Can’t Help Loving That Man”.

Writer of the episode Jeffrey Duteil said the audience was overwhelmingly supportive and that the network “couldn’t be more pleased” with how it turned out.

The first gay sex scene on television was a bit hard to confirm but I believe it to be from the original UK Queer as Folk which began airing February 23rd, 1999 and ran till February 22nd, 2000.

The US remake of the show which ran from December 3rd, 2000 - August 2nd 2005 was the first American show to feature gay sex. Both shows were very groundbreaking for their explicit portrayal of it.

Happy #AudioDramaSunday! A day late lol, I was slow this week. But Kingmaker Histories is back! Super Suits is back! Starfall is back! So much good work this week! Let’s goooooo

🪐 I have been listening to Leylines since it started because I love Good Story Guild, and Leylines is so cool. It’s a prestige family drama wrapped in a neat scifi concept and this week’s episode in particular really drive home the family dynamic that makes this show special. Listen to Leylines and cry about brothers with me.

🐺 Stories from Ylelmore continues to absolutely kill me. I think Rion’s problems with his werewolfism resonates with a lot of different real life challenges to being alive—racism, transphobia—but in this ep it felt like a potent nod to ableism as well. At what point does someone get to do something risky for their own mental wellbeing? At what point do one’s friends get to deny your choices to protect you? I don’t want to see what this is going to do to the kids’ friendship, except that I have to know.

🌊 Tales from the Fringes of Reality always presents us with these small perfect images of family care or unexpected friendship, but Paul Warren’s sentient moss is maybe the best thing I’ve ever heard. The focus this episode on slowing down, appreciating the moment, and resting really struck a chord. It was perfect.

😈 Forgive Me! is SO GOOD. This episode bright in Jeffrey Cranor, always a treat, to tackle fears both real and intangible that religion brings into our lives. I was raised religious and…woof. Like this character is right, the candy-coated Sunday School version of the Bible is incomplete, and does nothing to prepare a kid for the real and actual danger in the world. Especially in light of the recent hurricanes which are likely exacerbated by climate change, how are we supposed to react? It has a pretty satisfying ending for a question without many good answers.

🌝 Dead Space: Deep Cover ended this week as well, and oh jeez louise. This makes me want to play the video game, and i don’t really do video games. Highly recommend, it is a scifi horror treat.

Top 10 Portrayals of Inspector Lestrade

Having just finished my list of my favorite fictional detectives, I felt it was time to return to my absolute favorite of the bunch: Sherlock Holmes. In the past, I have done lists related to Holmes himself, as well as his friend and colleague, Dr. Watson, and his arch-nemesis, Professor Moriarty. I recently revisited those three countdowns to see if I would change anything, and…at the moment, no, I think they’re still pretty solidly set. HOWEVER, I’ve never gone over any of the other major characters in the Sherlock Holmes universe since those three. I haven’t covered his other allies, or any other noteworthy antagonists he faced. So, I decided it was time to fix that problem. These lists WILL have descriptions, but they’ll be very brief, partially just because I don’t have a TON to say about most of the characters/portrayals involved. We’ll start off with a Top 10 devoted to Scotland Yard’s most competent detective, Inspector Lestrade.

In the books, Lestrade is one of Holmes’ closest compatriots. While the super sleuth frequently interacts with various Scotland Yard officers, Lestrade is the most recurring, and has the most rapport with Sherlock. Their relationship is an…interesting one, to say the least. On the one hand, the two do care about each other, and there is some level of mutual respect under their respective, prickly surfaces. However, the pair bicker constantly, and always seem to be trying to one-up each other. Holmes concedes that Lestrade is probably the best detective at the Yard, but with the caveat that he is “the best of a bad bunch.” Lestrade, meanwhile, often tries to downplay Holmes’ unique skills in favor of boosting his own ego, and is forever frustrated by Sherlock’s antics. At the same time, he recognizes Holmes is very helpful to himself and the force, and for all his faults, he always manages to help the Inspector catch the crooks in the end. Indeed, the main reason Lestrade usually fails is because he ironically tends to jump the gun: he’s someone who fails to look at the big picture, or else notice the smaller details, which is what Holmes is very good at. If he just took his time more, he could probably get to the bottom of things more quickly…but Holmes can do all that in an instant, so it’s a good thing he’s hanging around. Different interpretations throughout adaptations and reimaginings of the Holmes universe have reinterpreted Lestrade in a number of ways (and with no less than two different pronunciations of his name; “Leh-strawed” seems to be the most common, but a couple choose to say “Less-trade”). Some versions of him are more comical and bungling, while some are more serious but still not quite as brilliant as Holmes. Some make the character more bullheaded and easily angered, while others make him more supportive and friendly. Many of the best find some sort of balance between these disparate elements; while he may not get the kudos that Holmes and Watson get, Lestrade is an interesting character in his own right, with a lot of layers writers, actors, and directors can play with. Having said that, here are some I particularly enjoy. So STOP IN THE NAME OF THE LAW! Here are My Top 10 Favorite Portrayals of Inspector Lestrade.

10. Frank Finlay, from A Study in Terror & Murder By Decree.

Finlay played Lestrade, by sheer coincidence, in two completely different films that have the same premise: Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper. He looks, sounds, and generally behaves exactly the same in both movies, too. It’s rather uncanny, really.

9. Eddie Marsan, from the Guy Ritchie Films.

In the first film, Lestrade is a major character, and the way they play with his relationship with Sherlock is surprising; it’s just a shame he’s little more than a cameo in the second film.

8. Jeffrey Jones, from Without a Clue.

Arguably the most bumbling version of the character on this list. However, since this movie is an outright comedy, I don’t mind this. (Please keep a certain elephant out of the room; I am only addressing portrayals of the character, not the people who played them.)

7. Peter Madden, from the 60s BBC Series.

In some ways, I think this might be the most book-accurate take on Lestrade, especially in terms of physical appearance. Madden only played the character in the first season of the series; in the second season, actor William Lucas took over. Weirdly enough, Madden did appear in the second season playing a completely different character in one episode. Not really sure why he was recast.

6. Dennis Hoey, from the Universal Films.

Alongside Jones, the most bungling version of Lestrade, frequently used as comic relief. In most of the films - not all, but most - he makes Nigel Bruce’s infamously doofy Watson look like a genius in comparison. He’s a lot of fun, though, and the chemistry between the three performers is great every time.

5. Rupert Graves, from Sherlock.

Arguably the most serious version of Lestrade on the list. I love the sort of normalcy he brings to the crazy world of Holmes and Watson, and the way he’s able to just put up with all the nonsense Sherlock shoves onto him, as well as find ways to rein Holmes in.

4. Archie Duncan, from the 50s TV Series.

This Lestrade is able to be extremely funny without actually being a moron; while he always needs Holmes to help him out, it’s mostly just because he’s impulsive and hotheaded, and therefore doesn’t always think things through or notice the details Sherlock notices. (Just like in the books.) Duncan, like Peter Madden, would weirdly play other characters in the show BESIDES Lestrade, including a villain in one story. Very talented performer who was always good to see in action!

3. The Version from Moriarty the Patriot.

This is probably the most friendly and encouraging version of Lestrade on the list, though he still gets righteously annoyed with both Holmes AND Moriarty in the series. I love his energy and the integrity the character has in the show; like Holmes, he’s willing to bend the rules to see justice done, and will never give up no matter what, which explains why they like each other above all else.

2. Akiko Morison, from Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century.

This version is a female descendant of the original inspector, named Beth Lestrade. She actually was more of a standout to me in this show than Watson was! Once again, this version isn’t depicted is an idiot - she’s fiery, strong, and very good at her job, with great instincts. Her problem is that, once again, she doesn’t always pick up on the details or fully understand the situation, which leads to conflict and her need to have Holmes around.

1. Colin Jeavons, from the Granada Series.

The definitive take on Lestrade, just as Jeremy Brett was the definitive take on Holmes, in my opinion. Jeavons plays Lestrade as a slightly pompous and rather sarcastic police officer, but he also seems to be one of the versions of the character who has the best sort of relationship with Sherlock. I love the chemistry between the pair, and how they each seem to sort of admire each other, though neither will ever admit it. At the same time, that competitive rivalry between the two has rarely been showcased better. Altogether marvelous.

So, I mentioned my Agent Cuddy AU before, and by that I mean...

Gregory House fought in WWII. He was a decent soldier, but a better spy, however, he was sent back out into the warzone for mouthing off too much. He lost his leg in the war, leaving him with a shoddy prosthetic, a cane, and a limp. [Yes, he’s like if Sousa was an asshole. Also I gave him his cane instead of the crutch, because, like in House MD canon, House is knowingly punishing himself, so of course he’d go with the cane instead of the more practical and comfortable crutch like Sousa had.]

Lisa Cuddy worked alongside Project Rebirth during the war, even allegedly becoming romantically involved with Lucas Douglas, aka, Captain America [yeah yeah, I know. Not my fav place for him either, but I think it fits. He’s a dorky little guy and he’s genuinely good, so, you know, it works well enough]. She was one of the best agents they had, but after the war she was put back into the SSR, forcing her to earn their respect all over again.

James Wilson is the butler to young, rich, and insanely brilliant Dr. Robert Chase. James often finds himself caught up in Lisa’s cases and adventures, proving to be a loyal and helpful friend in even the most complicated and dangerous of situations. He is married to Julie Wilson. [because this is the 1940s, she can’t really cheat, get a divorce, and be alright financially right away, so in my mind she doesn’t cheat here. I would have him be married to his first wife, but then we’d have Sam Wilson, and that’s already a mcu character and I’d like to avoid confusion]

Eric Foreman also works for the SSR. He follows his orders, whether he agrees with them or not. He later takes over as chief.

Dr. Robert Chase is a brilliant, young, rich, somewhat insane weapons inventor. He met and befriended Lisa during the war, but afterwards, he recruited her to clear his name. See, Dr. Chase had indirectly killed a (different) genocidal dictator, and the SSR is out for his arrest.

Allison Cameron is a waitress who quickly becomes one of Lisa’s closest friends and allies.

Remy Hadley, known only as “Thirteen” in the spy circuit, was trained in the Red Room. She proves to be one of Lisa’s biggest adversaries, but also turns out to be useful later on.

Amber Volakis is a brilliant actress who later gets caught up in something bigger than herself. She aims for genius, but ends up in unhinged territory.

Jessica Adams is a nurse Greg meets while in Los Angeles. She proves to be a valuable ally when Lisa is injured.

Lawrence Kutner, Jeffrey Cole, and Chris Taub are all part of the 107th, which are still active even after the war.

Dr. Travis Brennan [...whatever the fuck samberly was good for lmao. It can’t be taub bc samberly gets no bitches and taub very much somehow gets bitches]

Chi Park is Lisa’s connection at the phone company.

Today in the Department of Before They Were Star Trek Stars, Jonathan Frakes guest stars in "Of Mouse and Man," episode 12 of the second season of Hill Street Blues (original air date February 11, 1982).

Frakes plays a low-level cocaine dealer who gets caught in a sting in the garment district and informs on his supplier on the advice of his deliciously sleazy lawyer (Jeffrey Tambor). Hill Street Blues was THE prestige drama of its day - think Breaking Bad but with a fraction of the competition. For several years running there was no point watching any awards shows because it was a foregone conclusion that it would sweep every category. You couldn't pick up a magazine without reading a feature about it or turn on the radio without hearing the theme song, which was a Billboard Top 10 single.

Other Trek connections under the fold:

"Of Mouse and Man" co-writer Michael Wagner wrote or co-wrote three episodes of The Next Generation and served as an uncredited co-producer on four.

Barbara Bosson plays the ex-wife of the lead character on Hill Street Blues; she also appeared in the Deep Space Nine episode "Rivals" as a Bajoran widow who partners with a con man to open a casino to compete with Quark's.

The overly militaristic Lt. Hunter is portrayed by James B. Sikking, who also played Lawrence Styles, the captain whose ship was stolen by the renegade Enterprise crew in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

We don't get to see the face of this TV reporter, but we do hear his voice; it's the voice of prolific voice actor Dan Gilvezan, best known for his work on such classic 1980s cartoons as Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends, Transformers, and GI Joe. In 2001 he provided voices for the video game Star Trek: Armada II.

Music editor Allan K. Rosen was also the music editor of the Star Trek: Borg video game.

"We’ve received an urgent message. Hurry, come here,” Freddie shouted.

His voice sounded as if it came from a parallel world. I pulled away from Anders, lowering my eyes. “It’s time to go.”

On the table, among the plates, lay a map over which the men were bent.

“‘Duchess’ will leave the port three days earlier.”

“We’re already at full speed,” Graham shook his head. “We won’t make it on this route.”

“If we take another route, we’ll run into our fleet,” Gus reminded.

“But we have no other options,” Jeffrey said. “The only thing we can do is cut through here,” he traced a line on the map with his finger.

“Dangerous.”

“Who among us cares?”

Everyone exchanged glances.

“Alright, we’ll go this way. Hesse, how many days will it take?”

“Twelve, at least.”

Gus nodded. “That will do. Well, Y/N, thanks for dinner.”

“You’re welcome,” I nodded, still in a foggy state.

“Peace?” Jeffrey extended his pinky to me, just like in our childhood.

“Peace.” I extended mine, remembering how we used to fight and make up only in this way.

“The smell of fresh bread just came back to me,” Appleyard smiled. Those were pleasant memories, which always made me feel light and sad at the same time, but now I couldn’t even focus on the conversation, let alone find my way back to the distant past where we used to run carefree to the stream, fall, and fight with bullies. Truth be told, we were the bullies: Jeffrey, my brother, and I.

But now there was no one left. The internal coordinates had shifted, leaving only two points on the plane: me and Anders.

He smoked silently, glancing at me, shy and embarrassed. I felt a cocktail of emotions, a mix of euphoria and slight fear. Indeed, love scares me more than blood, fights, gunshots, and death. Gradually, the cabin emptied, some went outside to smoke in the fresh air, others to carry out their duties on the ship. We were left alone, separated by the room, a distance that Anders crossed in a matter of seconds, pulling me into a kiss. Bold. Confident and sharp.

He smelled like salt water, tobacco, firecracker smoke, and ash, like strong whiskey and a stormy sky.

At this moment, you can truly go insane. And now I knew this for sure. They say we live only once, but we can die many times. If all of this is entirely true, then I am ready to live and die only like this and only with him.

Anders stepped back. I was breathing heavily, but hearing footsteps, I carefully turned away from Lassen and started tidying up the bedding, constantly gathering my unruly hair.

“What are you doing?” Graham suspiciously eyed us. Anders remained unruffled, “Odd question, Hesse.”

“I just don’t want any quarrels or tension.”

Oh, yes. Tension – the most comprehensive word to describe almost any situation.

“Everything’s fine,” I tugged at the corners of my lips, “don’t worry.”

“Alright, if you say so.” Graham climbed to the top bunk.

I hid behind the book I kept under the pillow, begging the main characters to take me with them into their intricate conversations and plot twists. My eyes ran over the lines, tripping over commas, but I couldn’t catch the meaning of the book. The kiss still lingered on my lips. Anders left the cabin, and Graham’s head immediately hung over the edge of the bed, peering at me, “Are you sure everything’s alright?”

“What do you mean?”

“It was just too quiet in here.”

“Believe me, it would be bad if it were loud in here.”

“Something’s not right, I can feel it, you know?”

“With your gut?”

“Something like that.”

“Graham, you just want to gossip, but I have nothing to tell you.”

“When you decide to, remember, I’m your best friend here.”

I laughed, agreeing.

Soon all the beds were occupied, the light was out, and only the ghostly shimmer of stars occasionally penetrated the cabin through the swaying curtains. Inside me, a fire was burning, and energy was stirring, making me want to run out, climb the rocky shore, and dive into the water, feeling it close over my head like a dense dome. I heard Anders get up from his place; he gently touched me, then let the cold wind in through the slightly open door and disappeared into the night. I quietly slipped out after him, grabbing a warm turtleneck sweater.

“Knew you wouldn’t fall asleep.”

“After what you did, I can forget about sleep.”

He smiled. “It was worth it anyway.”

We stood side by side, gazing at the celestial canvas.

“You know, there’s a Scandinavian legend about a sea monster. The god Odin was so afraid of the devastation this creature could cause the universe that he placed it where it could do the least harm. He threw the small serpent Jörmungandr into the ocean that surrounds Midgard. In the Midgard Sea, Jörmungandr grew so large that he could encircle the whole world and hold his own tail in his mouth. That’s why he’s called Jörmungandr, which in Old Norse means ‘Earth’s Necklace.’ So the Aesir conferred and threw the serpent into the great ocean that surrounds Midgard. Over the years, the world serpent grew so much that it flooded many coastal villages, and people had to relocate. They say Jörmungandr still lies at the bottom of the ocean, encircling Midgard, and he is not pleased with those who venture into his domain.” Anders’s voice floated in the halls of my mind, painting pictures of mighty gods and a giant serpent sleeping under a water canopy.

“What do the legends say about love?”

Anders looked at me, his gaze soft and warm, he reached out, entwining our fingers. “I only know one, but it’s sad, I warn you. It was a long time ago, so long it’s hard to imagine. The goddess Freyja and the god Od were an inseparable pair, their love exemplary in many ways, but one day Od disappeared. It was a tragedy for Freyja; she set out to find him, fearing nothing, but the pain of her loss never subsided, and as she searched for Od, her tears turned into gold, which is now called amber.”

“They never found each other?”

“No, to this day, there are many theories about where Od went.”

“Even in this sad story, there is much beauty.”

Anders moved closer, hugging me by the shoulders. “It’s still better when people are found.”

“I was right, you’re a romantic.”

“Only when no one’s watching.”

The ocean drove a piercing wind, but I felt warm in his embrace. I rested my head on his shoulder, listening to the movement of the waves. Somewhere inside, doubts and questions began to stir, but not now. I would think about it later, even if I regretted it.

We sat on the stern all night, talking. Anders gently adjusted my hair, stroked my palm, and smiled. I told him about my childhood in a small village, how I broke my arm falling from a tree, and how my brother and I once stole apples from a neighbor. Lassen’s stories were so similar to mine, like two identical tales unfolding parallel to each other.

We both had lost loved ones and knew the bitterness of that pain like no one else.

“You know, this is so unlike me,” he began. “When you boarded the ship with such simplicity and ease. I mean, it was as if nothing bothered or worried you, you just were, and that’s all. It struck me from the first glance.”

I listened intently to his revelation, not hiding a half-smile.

“And then, how can someone look like the most harmless and kind creature, yet in a second mercilessly perform their job?”

“You do that too,” I noted.

“It feels different from my side. I also think I like you a lot.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Oh, you’d better decide for sure as soon as possible.”

Anders laughed. “Alright, I’ll try right now.” He moved closer, running his hand over my cheek. “I like you very much, and that’s for sure.”

“Just don’t tell anyone, Viking,” I replied in his manner, smiling.

The dawn rose over the water, leaving behind a night filled with conversations and laughter, as we quietly slipped into the cabin. I dove under the blanket, feeling infinitely in love, and the sparks of this emotion bubbled inside, hitting my head like champagne and knocking me off my feet.

I don’t know how long I lay there, unable to close my eyes, but soon Gus woke up, jumping down from the top bunk and stretching. He woke Graham, then Anders. I was sure he hadn’t had much sleep either.

“You slept like that?” Graham rubbed his eyes, looking at Anders in his sweater.

“Sleeping on the floor is chilly.”

“I heard someone going out at night, is everything alright?” Gus pulled on his favorite sweater, placing his hands on his hips. It was clear who was in charge here.

“Smoking,” Lassen replied calmly.

“Something’s not right,” Hesse repeated, “I’m just sure something is happening right under our noses.”

“Could you be any louder?” Jeffrey grumbled. “Make sure everyone hears you.”

I was sure all eyes were on me.

“Alright, on to a new day,” Gus said, walking out.

Freddie was slowly crawling out of his sleeping bag, “What now?”

“Don’t sleep, my friend,” Graham extended his hand to help him up.

For some reason, my heart was pounding wildly as I too climbed out from under the blanket; it seemed my nonchalance was too forced.

“Coffee?” Anders offered.

I nodded, then met Hesse’s most disarming gaze, “And you’re sleeping in a sweater?”

Damn. Of course, I usually sleep in pajamas, but you can’t sit all night on the deck in them.

“It was cold.”

Jeffrey approached from behind, crossing his arms over his chest, “You’re lying. I know when you’re lying.”

“Bluffing, Apple. I know a lot about you too,” I stood in the same pose. “Is this starting again?”

“No, just why would you lie?” He raised his hands in the air as if surrendering, but his “but” was a low blow.

“First prove I’m lying, then we’ll talk.” I took a cup of coffee from Anders. I didn’t know if he made it for himself or me, but I quickly decided. Judging by his heavy sigh, it wasn’t for me.

Freddie was still standing, sleepily staring at one spot, “I really don’t understand anything.”

I shook my head, walking out onto the deck under Jeffrey’s gaze. Lassen chuckled, turning away from everyone and immersing himself in the preparation of the most magical drink in the world.

60 Sec Rec: Roswell New Mexico

"After a decade away from home, Liz Ortecho returns to her native Roswell to care for her ailing father. When she arrives, she reconnects with her high school crush Max Evans, who is now a police officer. Their chemistry is electric, but Liz soon learns something shocking: Max and his siblings are aliens who have kept their abilities secret their entire lives." [Rotten Tomatoes]

This is a show where too many things happen all the time and everyone is always in peril or trying to save someone else, very scifi soap-opera. It also starts with the love story between Max and Liz, but it's much more than that.

The strength of this show is in its cast/characters. It's an ensemble, they all have chemistry together and different types of relationships. There's couples, there's exes, there's unrequited loves, there's best friends, new friends, siblings... yes, some characters have more weight and screentime than others, and not everything is very well though out but ultimately, it works more often than not and the relationships develop instead of stagnate.

You see them together and you see why they're friends, or why they like each other, or why they have problems.

This is a show where a gay character says 'I'm gay', and shockingly, the bisexual character also says the word bisexual. More than once, even! There's also another not-straight character who, if I remember correctly, remains unlabeled but it makes sense for them (and they discover it in their late twenties too).

It's entertaining; it's dramatic but not unkind. It's not without issues, but it's fun. And it has a pretty good ending, with decent to good farewells for every character, even though it got cancelled. Also recommended here by @bugboybuck if you want a second opinion.

That was so incredible. WARNING!!! THIS IS GONNA BE A LONG APPRECIATION POST WITH A FEW GRAMMAR AND SPELLING MISTAKES BECAUSE IT IS LATE BUT SOOO MANY THOUGHTS!!! Also kind of a few character studies?? I guess?? YEah. I just need to get it out while it's still fresh.

I'm so impressed with all of them and the way Cellbit described stuff and all the different sounds he made?? absolutely nerve wrecking. The deaths were so like.. made my heart beat so so fast and the monster chases??? All the different npcs with different vibes to them he captured them so well. I love all the little references to the qsmp. I love the fact he included fitmc and his egg child. I'm so sad that he killed fitmc and his egg child.

They way Baghera roleplayed Lucie and how Lucie changed from hating this little brat and calling her that, and then changing it from a mean nickname to one of endearment, saying that Emi is the best for bringing the keycard but she needs to shut up. The way she gave her life for Emi, and she probably would've even if Carol didn't sabotage Emi. When she was dragged away and dying, all she could think about is that she was alone. That she was a failure. Her very last thoughts before she died were its not fair, but this is it. And it wasn't fair. She died alone. She was killed just for the thrill of it.

It was so cool the way Quackity laughed when Lucie died. The roleplaying was just so.. Chef's kiss. It changed Benito. It changed the way he saw Emi and yeah, he said he would help kill that child but seeing someone else doing that, it made him change his mindset. He never liked Carol, and seein her wanting this CHILD Lucie sacrificed herself for dead made him utterly pissed off, and he made sure that he would protect Emi. In the end, he says to himself that he started as an angry and cynical person who cared for no one. He said to himself that he will continue to be like that, but he has someone he needs to care for now and protect, because he will not let Lucie die in vain.

And the way Bagi roleplayed too?? I did NOT like Carol or trust her, she was so sus but oh my god Bagi is incredible. She was so in character, and Carol was so sure what she was doing was the right thing. She knew all of them were infected, and that meant they would need to die because if she lets them live she won't protect the world. But she wasn't there from the start. She wasn't there to form a bond with these people, and she focused her energy on killing a child, and in the end that's what got her killed. I almost wish she had lived longer, just to see what more there was to her. She was interesting narrivately, and I love that.

AND GOD. PAC. Pac was absolutely gut wrenching to look at after Diego heard about Lucie's death, just moment's before laughing with Jeffrey and being healed by him, only to hear that his best friend, likely for years, had been dragged away and killed by a beast, and it was to save a child he didn't even like. His first reaction was to deny it, even if the beast was right above them and he was so loud that it just.. GOIUGH. Pac's expression for the most part after that was zoned out, empty and like there was nothing to live for anymore. After Benito's speech about Lucie living on in Emi, he probably decided that Emi needs to live on. For Lucie. Like Benito said. Diego offers his everything for the people he loves. And he loved Lucie, it doesn't matter what KIND of love, but it was so important. And Pac captured that so incredibly well. ALSO LIKE. THE WAY HE SAID "She must've been terrified" MY HEART.

OUGH FOOLISH. His expressions. His noises. All the little things. He was soo in character. Jeffrey is a coward, and maybe it's more of an unknown trauma response to what happened to him before. Needing to run because he won't survive otherwise. His pep talk to Diego was that he [Diego] needs to bottle up his feelings for now, because otherwise he won't survive, but when they get out of this he can cry and they can get therapy. He's not telling Diego to keep it bottled up, but to seek out help. He throws a bunch of stuff, and in the end that's what saved them. He kept his phone and that moment!! That moment when Foolish said that he throws his phone at Mikael, I reacted the same way as Cellbit. Gasping, mouth open, jaw ON. THE. FLOOR. It was incredible.

AND EMI. She was broken. She saw her dad's infected body and she promised she would find a cure for him. She stayed with Lucie, held her hand until they had to split up and she was forced to stay with this boring guy that the only adult she liked didn't trust, and they were saying they didn't want her to stay there, but she would be safe if she did. Then, she finds this keycard, and her first instinct is to leave this boring guy and find Lucie. She does. And Lucie calls her the best for finding the keycard. And then, even if she doesn't realize it, she alerted the creature who chased her and Lucie, and this stupid doctor and new person who she does not know at all, down. This new stranger tries to offer her to the beast and Lucie sacrifices herself for Emi. Emi's only response was "She was the one I liked" I know some people were saying that she didn't act like a teenage girl (or like a 11/12 year old?) but she did!! I was talking to someone in dms and we were freaking out and he works with kids and I know teenagers. They are that sassy. They swear, and they absolutely swear a lot if they learned english from youtube or the internet, and being Brazilian I am simply assuming that's where Emi learnt it from. Cellbit did so well, and Emi also went through a LOT of traumatic events in such a short span of time. After Lucie died, she immidately latched onto Benito and never let go of his hand. And I don't think she will for a while.

Mikael sucked but also I kinda understood him in the end, but it also turned out he was wrong. That creature wasn't one of a kind, but he never got to know that. I don't have much to say about him because he was so sketch and just like. fuck that guy

i want more of this. so much more.

I KEEP ADDING ONTO THIS POST BUT OH MY GOD I AM APPLAUDING THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE SCENES. SO SO COOL. ALL THE ARTISTS AND THE PEOPLE HELPING CELLBIT WITH EVERYTHING WAS SO COOL. THANKY OU SO MUCH EVERYONE IN THE CREDITS
