Jayce being more romantically possessive with Viktor is both some great Submissive Like A Guard Dog content but ALSO. very very funny to think about in the context of the two worlds Jayce occupies.

The Academy: full of the exact type of nerd who would and do foam at the mouth for Viktor's slim, golden eyed, smooth accented, tragic-sexy dark academia rizz. Viktor may be too focused on his work to care, but Jayce is not being paranoid that everyone in this building wants his man carnally

Piltover High Society: sees Jayce Talis, the pinnacle of charming conventionally attractive masculinity with a 1000kw smile and shoulders like a brick house, growling over that emaciated, antisocial, weedy Zaunite nerd who keeps hacking up a lung. And they're like "bitch no one wants your man. why do you want your man???"

thinking about how viktor's crutch design is actually pretty unergonomic (no cushioning on the shoulder/handhold? also why does the handhold have that decorative pointy bit, that's just prime hand stabbing position), but it's in house talis colors. so do you think. that jayce made it. and put so much effort and love into it, and it's incredibly elegant, but ultimately he doesn't have firsthand experience with the fine particulars of being disabled (until his trip straight down to the bottom of a canyon where wizard viktor tossed him pity lizards occasionally), so the result is more form over function.

and yet viktor used it for years, unchanged, red/gold unobscured, even though it prob caused long term damage and pain that could've been avoided with minor alterations. out of affection.

I don't know that much about crutches so anyone's free to correct me, but I do have nerve sensitivity in my arms that's easily triggered with incorrect posture/muscle tenseness/hard pressure, and every time I see that crutch, I'm like boi. that's absolutely fucking up your arm. my fingers are going numb just looking at it. that kind of long-term acute pressure easily causes chronic nerve compression but viktor canonically is sentimental about holding onto important objects that remind him of jayce, like the cog and blanket...

So if you consider that it took Wizard Viktor interceding with Jayce to get him to kill Cult Leader Viktor to successfully save the world, then I think that makes it obvious that in most other universes, Jayce joins Viktor.

Which means that in most other universes, it is astral plane Viktor and Jayce who explore the mental cosmos together trying to heal Vander.

It usually is Jayce working side by side with Viktor in the commune, with Jayce being the one working in the blacksmith forge there.

It usually is them working together as partners towards the Glorious Evolution, he doesn’t need to be convinced in the Council Chamber.

Which on the one hand, is possibly why Viktor is so confused over and over at Jayce turning him down, shooting him in the commune despite Viktor peacefully leading him to the heart of it by the hand, or in the Council Chamber when Jayce says no to him, possibly for the first time in Viktor’s life, and it shocks Viktor so badly he goes full villain arc.

But part of me also wonders if, on a psychic level, Viktor sensed that in every other universe, Jayce joined him. If he sensed that something was missing and wrong when he imagined Sky to be his companion instead as the next logical best thing, when he had a blacksmith forge in his commune that was staffed by cultists instead, when he went to the Council Chamber for one last plea and didn’t forcibly assimilate Jayce, never imagining it wouldn’t work, sensing that it should work.

In every other universe it does work. You can tell because Jayce has to fight himself with every fiber of his being, he has to deny his most basic instincts and truest self to say no, even with everything he knows!

It’s what made the Hexcore trap so effective I think. In every other universe, it gets Jayce and Viktor, working together as partners the way they always wanted towards its goals. It’s everything they both wanted. It is the most effective trap for them. It works so well that only someone with full knowledge of what to do and what went wrong in every other universe, every other trap that was laid for them with perfect knowledge of who they are and what they want, could possibly thread the needle of getting them both to the other side and sparing the world in the process.

I think there's something to be said about how Viktor put Jayce in that pit in the dead world timeline. In all timelines, in all possibilities, only Viktor could show Jayce exactly what his life felt like.

Painful, lonely, driven mad by it and desperately clawing your way out

I know we like to say that Arcane could’ve been fixed if only Jayvik confessed their love and kissed somewhere in season 1, but consider this —Jayvik confessing and making canon so much worse.

These two are freak4freak. They are obsessed with each other. Do you really think that Jayce wouldn’t have done much worse than he already does in canon for a slight against Viktor? He literally expulses Heimerdinger out of the council because he tried to deny them the tool to save Viktor’s life. Jayce would start a fucking war for his man and we already know that Viktor caused the death of multiple timelines and millions of people just to get a few precious years with Jayce.

Jayvik parallels that make me feral ~ 1x02 edition

● The parallel between Baby Jayce's flashback & the scene in 2X07, where Jayce sees the mage upon landing in the other timeline and calls out to him:

● Mage Viktor teleporting Baby Jayce to safety/creating a new timeline & Mage Viktor teleporting Jayce to meet him in his original timeline:

● Jayce telling Viktor how beautiful the magic he saw as a child was (without either of them knowing he’s actually talking about Viktor) & Jayce telling Viktor he’s beautiful in the finale:

● The parallel between Viktor saving Jayce/giving him the rune back & Mage Viktor saving Baby Jayce/giving Jayce the runes + Viktor introducing himself & Mage Viktor revealing his identity in the finale:

● Not exactly a parallel, but the moment where Mage Viktor creates a new timeline for Baby Jayce, the world he holds in his hand becomes Jayce's eye... we know now Jayce is Viktor's entire world, so 😭

Thinking about Jayce and Viktor, in the public eye, both being reduced to their bodies— Jayce through objectification, Viktor through discrimination.

“Pretty boy” Jayce and his careful, curated appearance. Big and broad and taking up space in a spotlight thrust onto him. He’s built like a blacksmith and carrying it with him. His visual contrast with Viktor, how out-of-place he seems in his own lab. “Golden boy” Jayce and his big strained smile. All of it dropping away after his return from the pit, even when cleaned up.

Jayce who is seemingly given everything— but stays clinging to the people he loves like a man starved of affection. The rise from academia to politics means everything is for gain and any bond could be torn out from under him. Sold off. His anger and hurt when Mel used him as a stepping stone.

Viktor who never touches back. Viktor and his unbrushed hair, tired eyes, take-me-as-i-am defiance warring with insecurity. Learned to accept being looked past and use it to claw himself into a place in Piltover. His childhood, shying from the other children. When asked for a reason, he gestures to his cane.

Viktor flinching away and curling into himself when brought back to his physical form. Not a thought is spared towards hiding when he’s changed past recognition— fully hexcorized, possessing a construct, or in his Herald form, he barely gives modesty the time of day.

“My place is here, in the lab, with you.” It’s real and solid. There’s no glamour there, no gold, just the work that needs doing and the person worth doing it with.

*takes a drag from my cigarette* Jayce being pulled and having multiple versions of him trying to pull away from shooting Viktor is actually him full-on fighting the shooting because he doesn’t want to in the end, and it’s Mage!Viktor who actually completes the job by forcing him to stay and do it, controlling the hammer for that moment.

*takes another drag* In addition, Mage!Viktor distracts astral plane Viktor (he’s looking at the lights from the hammer in the astral plane) so that he can be stopped before killing Jayce.

i love how all the magic marks that viktor’s fingers leave on his followers r on their forehead n cheekbones, since he’s facing them when he heals them, but the marks he leaves on jayce are only on his forehead. forehead touching is an intense form of affection and love in zaun where viktor is from, so those marks r literally claiming jayce with his love….. + even in this cosmic form jayce has the scar on his cheekbone from when a glass shard slit his face when he and viktor had their first hextech breakthrough. that scar is not touched by viktor’s healing. meaning viktor does not see this small scar and imperfection as an ugly thing, just like jayce doesnt see viktor’s disabiliy as something to hide but something worth admiring …… they make me so emotional

Arcane season 2 spoilers, Jayvik meta again.

Did they even feel the pain of it as they died together?

I don't have screenshots handy but when the souls rush in and go to Viktor, he flinches back like he's been shoved or punched - which to me says that hurt. That had to have hurt a lot.

And then the warping of their literal bodies, the edges pulling - the scenes with the buildings prove that isn't just a weird illusion, but that's actually happening to whatever in question is being affected. I mean, right before Jayce shoots Viktor in the commune whatever the anomaly is doing to him looks like it hurts.

So how much would that hurt, to feel your body being ripped apart over and over, and how much did Jayce and Viktor adore each other that they fought past it, that they fought through it to hold each other, to grab each other and stay there, endure that until they suddenly weren't anymore?

Jayce saw what the rune/crystal was doing to Viktor, he knew what his partner was feeling and said you won't hear this agony alone and if that's not a partner who's devoted to the other I don't know what is. He knew what it would feel like to stay - he'd experience it already, meeting the Mage who was his soulmate, coming back, and he kept. choosing. to. stay.

And Viktor? Viktor was calm, he was at peace. He might have been in pain, but it might have been bearable with his partner holding him.

And when Jayce gently grabbed a hold of him? That didn't look like it was movement in agony, but calm peace. He didn't ever hurt Viktor, even if it was an involuntary movement as a reaction to pain. His teeth are barred and he's clearly bracing but I have to wonder, how much of it is bearable because he's with his partner again?

How much pain were they in, in the end, and how much did their love for each other ease it for them both?

something about vi never wanting anyone in her life to change. something about jayce not caring at all how much viktor has changed so long as he's alive. something about the way vi associates radical change with death, perceiving jinx's continued existence as a kind of necromantic horror—the way jayce would shatter fundamental laws of nature without a second thought in order to give viktor the best chance at survival, in whatever form that may take. transformation as rebirth vs murder, hextech vs shimmer. nature has made us intolerant to change, but fortunately, we have the capacity to change our nature. and then jayce, realizing that he hasn't changed at all, not really—that he is a scientist at heart, and he shouldn't have tried to be anything else. and then vi, realizing she has become someone unrecognizable—never thought my sister would turn bluebelly. and for both of them, it's too little, too late.

Parallels that make me feral ~ Jayvik & Vanco edition

In episode 1x03, Silco tries to convince Vander to join him one last time. After everything that happened between them—after Vander tried to kill him—he still wanted Vander by his side to see their dream come true.

Sound familiar? That’s exactly what Viktor wants and keeps trying to achieve throughout the second half of S2. Jayce basically kills him, and yet Viktor never stops trying to make Jayce see.

Both Silco and Viktor fail. And then this happens: forehead touches and bringing back the hidden parts of your other half.

Jayce brings Viktor’s humanity back through the power of love, while Silco brings Vander’s violence back through the power of hatred—a hatred that was once love.
