In Defense of Jayce
So I'm a HUGE fan of Viktor and I am also so devastated about what happened to the family reunion between Vander, Jinx and Vi. But I think something sus is going on and Jayce has a valid reason. I mean we got to keep in mind that this guy definitely saw something in the void as we see here.
Tumblr media
Everytime he finds someone in Viktor's commune, it flickers to this weird empty shell of a creature, so maybe this is their true form.
Another thing people have been complaining about is also that Viktor seemed to trust that Jayce wouldn't shoot him, that's why he didn't move. But what if it's the opposite? What if Viktor trusted him to shoot?
Tumblr media
What if that look is lowkey a plea for Jayce to end it? There's so many clues to that, such as Jayce saying "I won't miss this time". What if this was a look of anticipation?
Keep in mind as well that Viktor made Jayce promise to destroy the hexcore and this is Jayce keeping that promise. Viktor even broke up with him left Piltover after he realized Jayce saved him but at the cost of that promise. Viktor also knew that Jayce was not in the "right" mind, but he didn't even try to convince Jayce during the scene where he took over Salo.
I also think Viktor's dialogue at the end of ep 6 could be interpreted both ways (i.e. two sides of the same coin as he mentions). He says that humanity is the cause of failure in the commune, but it's also the reason the commune exists. On the contrary, this could also be applied to hextech. It is the reason the commune flourishes, but it also leads to its downfall.
He also says that which inspires us to our greatest good is the cause of our greatest evil, which may also hint at Jayce's actions in both this episode and in episode 1 of season 2. Perhaps he wants to achieve the greatest good - destroying the hexcore - and in doing so, has to cause his greatest evil - kill his boyfriend partner. This is the reverse of episode 1 of season 2, where he revives Viktor (his greatest good), which leads to the hexcore growing erratic (greatest evil).
I think the writers are leaving a grey area for Jayce and Viktor's actions as a result, hence why I think Jayce killing Viktor definitely has something to do with a "greater good". The two of them are two sides of the same coin, where Jayce inspires and causes Viktor's actions and vice versa.
Idk I might be going out on a limb here but I'm just so excited to see what's really going on with Jayce and Viktor. There's a reason this is saved for the finale.

Jayce's bracelet is one of the most clever examples of symbolism so I'm gonna talk about it :))
At first, the bracelet is presented to us as a symbol of Jayce's dedication to magic. As a child, he would have died an orphan had The Mage not saved him and his mom. The blue crystal he wears on his bracelet is the only physical reminder he has of this event. This is the event that sparked his desire to recreate magic. When Jayce has his research taken away from him and after he's been told he can no longer pursue magic, he takes off his bracelet before trying to kill himself. If he can't have magic in life, he won't have it in death.
But then Viktor arrives, talks Jayce out of it, and gives the bracelet back to Jayce. From this moment on, the bracelet represents his friendship with Viktor and his will to live as well as his devotion to magic. In season two, Jayce touches and fiddles with his bracelet after telling Mel that Viktor once saved his life. Viktor is his best friend, Jayce wouldn't be alive without him, which is why Jayce has to save him, no matter the cost.
After being exposed to the arcane for an extended period of time, we see that the bracelet no longer exists. The crystal on the bracelet is now permanently attached to his skin. Jayce comes back to society, but he isn't the same. He now has an intense determination to destroy all things hextech. He says it's a curse, that it's evil, while talking to Viktor. Before Jayce goes to attack Viktor, when he's on the outside of the commune, we get a shot dedicated to Jayce's wrist. We can see the crystal embedded in his skin. And in the moment he fires at Viktor, we see all three things the bracelet represents realized.

arcane spoiler warning
i think what makes viktor's "death" (i am going to assume he is dead for the time being) so emotional is the nature of it.
viktor is a character who was constantly working himself to death. he was always striving to achieve his ambitions. he desired legacy. he desired to make a change. in the end, he understands the reason for his failings. he sees that all his hard work was ultimately futile. his legacy (the commune) died with him, just "figments". it is so bittersweet, because for the first time viktor seems truly at peace while at the same time his peace requires accepting this.
there is also the aspect that jayce was the one to bring his death about. earlier in the season, jayce put "saving his best friend" above "his principles". viktor "was supposed to die". looking at viktor's death the way i described it, yes jayce killed him but he was also the one to end viktor's cycle of endless aspiration. in killing viktor, jayce was able to do what he couldn't at the start of the season. we do not know exactly why jayce did this, but i have some personal theories.

There's a conversation we need to have about Jayce, thinking he's once again doing the objectively good thing, somehow finding a way to make saving Viktor's life about himself
Ripping Viktor out of death and into birth, bringing him into the world against his wishes, the Frankenstein and Frankenstein's Monster of it all
But first I have to scream incoherently and cry facedown on the floor for about 24 hours

Mute!Jayce AU where Jayce was inflicted with severe hypothermia due to poor insulation during the blizzard incident. One of the symptoms of being severely cold was slurred speech pattern and after being traumatized seeing his mother nearly died from the frost, it psychologically affected him in a way where the slurred speech pattern never really left him even after he was saved and healed from hypothermia. He can still try to talk but his speech is very slow and garbled so he gave up and just learned sign language (he does have a notepad for writing what he wants to say but no. 1, he got bullied for speaking weird when he was younger and more often than not, his notepads used for writing got torn apart for the funnies according to them. So fuck that, he made it a habit not to bring one and it just follows him til he’s an adult).
Because Jayce grew up mute and bullied for the way he talks, as he grow, he often to isolate himself from people and refused to connect with others. If people tried to strike up a conversation with him, he just nods, shakes his head, shrugs or do a raspy hum. A quiet warbled yes or no but that’s about it. Due to this behavior, neither are people eager to be close with him because they thought he was an arrogant prick. This continues on until he reached adulthood.
Anyways Jayvik (more like vikjayce) moments where Viktor ends up learning sign language cause it’s fun and he wants to have a conversation with Jayce where he’s at most comfortable, Viktor knowing Jayce’s tells because even if he’s mute, his body language is insanely talkative for him, Jayce’s no. 1 translator during parties. He was the one who did the speech for Jayce during Progress Day (even though he wants to fall on his knees and die from the stage fright) and Jayce is so so proud of him.
Jayce gets extra physical due to his speech disability. He would often cup Viktor’s face with his hands to ask with his action if he’s okey (a thing he and his mom often do with one another too so he doesn’t find it weird. Viktor’s heart combusts every time), hugs when he’s happy and excited, pats on the back or shoulder when he feels proud. He often grip his thigh or at times, Viktor’s, when he’s feeling nervous about somethings especially when they’re going to do project presentation.
Them <3

How genius is it for Viktor to go full-fledged savior in season 2? After all one of the very first things we see Viktor do is save Jayce's life.

Can’t wrap my head around the fact that Jayce went from saving viktors life to being the one to end it, but by doing so he kept his promise to viktor. he promised he would destroy the hexcore, I fear jayce killed the last version of him that had humanity. lock me away please this is enough this feels like TORTURE

Jayce and Viktor are so tragic. The noise that came out of my throat when Viktor said "Our paths diverged long ago. It was affection that held us together."
Felt like someone decided to plunge their hand into my chest and rip my heart from my chest.
