Damian: "Wait, has father just ruffled Todd's hair?"

Dick: "And he didn’t even punched him back! I'm so proud of how far they both have come. *sniff* Now we could all be one happy family."

Damiam: *looking absolutely bewildered, gazing up at Tim who just shrugs*

Tim: "Give them 15 minutes."

Damian: "12."

Give me a Jason Todd who thinks Dick doesn’t like him. Who sees all the fighting with Bruce and the uncertain/cold shoulder he’s offered by someone who he’d always wanted to meet, who could be his literal brother and he doesn’t think Dick likes him. He’s not exactly wrong, but it’s more complicated and Dick is still pretty young so he doesn’t handle it well.

Until Bruce and Alfred are out of town on business and Dick has to watch him for a week.

Trips to and from school are pretty normal if silent and they eat take out until Jason can’t handle it and makes them food himself.

Dick is frustrated with Bruce and feels antsy about being back in the manor and all the ways he and Jason are different.

Until he gets a call from the school that Jason had attacked 6 kids at lunch.

Jason is doing a pretty good job of invoking his right to remain silent no matter what the admin tries saying before Dick gets there.

He’s suspended for 2 days and Jason says nothing to defend himself and basically lets Dick yell at him about it.

Dick sends him to his room.

When venting about it to Barbara, she mentions the school cameras have audio and pulls the feed, saying when Bruce gets back he’ll do it anyways.

It starts off with digs at Jason’s background in the alley and then the accusations about Bruce start. Dick is used to some of this kind of thing and apparently Jason is too because he doesn’t rise to the bait.

Then the kids say something the camera doesn’t catch and Jason stills.

“Say that again.”

“You heard me! That brother of yours is a g-“

That’s when Jason decks the first kid.

jayroy is so good to me for a lot of reasons, but one of the big ones is that they r both full of each other's triggers. it's insane how like. their traumas have the potential to directly impact each other. except they just. don't. for the most part they're just two really good bros. it's got so much potential and if dc ever got around to writing a jason story that wasn't dogshit, it could be a really good story. alas.

Any au that has Jason willingly working for the government even if it’s as a social worker has automatically kinda lost me because we’re talking about someone who distrusts the system so much that as a child he chose the streets over going into custody of social services. Jason’s lack of faith in institutions continues into adulthood (but also through his original Robin tenure low key), one of the most substantial differences between his and Bruce’s philosophy is the fact that Bruce puts his faith in the law and the criminal justice system while Jason decidedly does not in the slightest

Jason & Pigeons: Panel Analysis

You know how pigeons were domesticated by humans then discarded? This panel of Jason feeding the pigeons after Bruce had Clockwork Oranged him made me think of that. Jason probably feels like Bruce did that to him.

The Lazarus Pits being more akin whale fall than sewage

The Lazarus pits, within the comics, are said to be necessary to the earth’s continued survival. What if, instead of being waste from the infinite realms, they’re the decaying remains of the Ancients which came before ours?

Within nature, very few creatures can feed on natural waste, and those that can are usually specialized to do so. Humans did not evolve alongside the pits, they were “discovered” around 600-700 years ago. Instead, humans learned to supplement their own lifeforce with the powers of the Lazarus pits.

Whale falls are rare, but naturally occurring events which benefit every single creature that comes across them. Entire ecosystems form around them.

Maybe, when the earth was forming, an Ancient Ended. Maybe the earth formed around the residue left behind, creating a core mottled with veins of ancient ectoplasm. Maybe the ectoplasm absorbed all of the emotions felt by the Ancient during its existence, and cast it into the bodies of those affected by it.

Maybe the reason no ghosts bother the bats (nor anyone else who’s used a Lazarus pit) is because they smell like the End of a deity.

so why. why did his baby boy get a better chance at life than willis could provide, just for him to still die before him, before he became an adult?

how could willis give up his parental rights to bruce wayne, the most privileged man on earth, expecting this man to keep his baby safe and happy and healthy-- when his little jay still died alone and scared.

bruce wayne had everything he could ever ask for. he had all the means to keep his son safe from any harm. and yet jason still died before he even reached his sweet sixteen.

willis thinks that maybe it's a family curse-- a curse he has to live with, knowing that he's failed everyone he's ever loved.
