What’s Couya’s perspective/mental state during the lead up to White Calf Exploits? What does she think is going on in general, or irt omens and hallucinations, and how is that fed into by her social/interpersonal/personal history, or her relationship with religion?
A lot of the abuse she experienced in her childhood was partly rooted in/influenced by her being autistic. Children with developmental disabilities that notably impact their functioning are often conceived of as having not properly been incarnated in their bodies and missing parts of their soul (this is especially the case with severe intellectual disabilities, which unfortunately is often responded to with infanticide if detected soon after birth).
Couya would be considered fairly ‘high functioning’ as an adult, given she's taught herself to mask most behaviors (the most pronounced symptom is her consistently and very noticeably avoiding eye contact, and otherwise she just comes off as quiet, overly blunt, and strange) but had pronounced and dramatic symptoms as a child (having meltdowns, going nonverbal, taking a very long time to learn to speak, etc). This is not something that parents are given any societal equipment to understand or deal with. There are certainly some parents of autistic children in this setting and cultural context who love their kid (even children they believe to be half-empty) and try the best they can, but Couya was mostly raised by a mother who hated her, being seen as a living breathing insult in that she was born in an affair, a living reminder of her own traumas, a compounding of the shame of having birthed a premature sickly infant and never successfully conceiving again. So there wasn’t going to be a supportive outcome here.
Her mother would quite explicitly impart to her that she was something half-formed and empty, not really a whole person, not fully human. Janeys learned to parrot this. Her father never verbalized this notion and was far kinder to her, but was clearly in agreement that something was wrong with her. Couya grew up with this messenging and fully internalized it.
One (semi)positive way she learned to cope with this is by recontextualizing herself as an empty vessel in a positive sense, something uniquely primed to be filled and shaped, specifically in the context of her religious beliefs. All Odonii are conceptualized as living vessels for aspects of Odomache, and an empty vessel can hold more than one that is already full. She might not be a full human, but maybe this just makes her better in service to her God. This is the psychological backdrop that primed her for everything else.
WRT the pilgrimage, she is a true believer, and wholly accepts that the sacrifice and re-incarnation of the Odomache is vital to restoring God’s connection to Its lands/the sacrifice-rebirth cycle and should end the drought. She is, however, coming into it with significant doubts about the royal family’s role to play. Faiza is completely loyal to (and partly puppeting) the Usoma Stavis Amanti, but Couya doesn’t share her faith in him.
At this point, six years into a famine that has been handled absolutely disastrously, public opinion of the royal family is in the pits. A once fringe politically radical argument that the institute of dynastic emperors is a godless foreign import that should be replaced with native Wardi religious practices in the form of a priest-emperor (usually assumed to be the Odomache) has become a fairly popular public sentiment. This is especially the case given the death and defilement of the previous Odomache and loss and presumed destruction of her body (preventing God Itself from being able to naturally reincarnate, halting the cyclical flow of its spirit) is seen as what initiated the drought to begin with. (Don't mistake this for like, proto-leftist sentiment, this is just about replacing a dynastic emperor with a god-emperor and shifting into a religious-nationalist theocracy).
Couya had already seen the logic in this radical sentiment; she had great pride in her order and agreed with the notion that it would provide far better leadership and public unity than the increasingly weak and unpopular Amanti dynasty. But initially she kept this to herself (especially as a representative of a pilgrimage that was, in large part, a desperate display of unity between a fracturing priesthood-military and the imperial family) and was willing to go along with things, it was far more important to perform the rites than to perform a coup.
There’s significant pre-established and widely held beliefs in dreams being potential omens, particularly dreams had by those in the priesthood, which may be visions directly from God (or specifically the Face they serve). Early into the pilgrimage, Couya has an EXTREMELY evocative dream that is highly suggestive to her as prophetic guidance from God Itself:
She is in the palace district of the city of Wardin. The streets are filled with slowly rising floodwaters. She finds the calf dead in the water being torn at by feral dogs. She kicks away the dogs and lifts the calf to its feet, which is now alive but feeble. It’s behaving entirely like a normal baby cow, even sucking at her fingers looking for milk, but in the dream it is self evident that This Is God Itself. Couya knows she HAS to get It to the palace, and lifts it onto her shoulders and wades through the water. One dog follows her and is jumping up, trying to bite at the calf, and Couya’s hands are full and she can’t do anything. There are people watching and she’s like “hey can someone get this stupid dog away from me” but no one makes a move.
Hibrides is suddenly walking with her and the dog is gone, and starts talking about how the calf is good meat, hard to come by in these times, they should get it to a butcher. Couya is in disbelief like "Hibrides what the fuck are you talking about. This is God. You can’t just eat It." God moos in agreement. Hibrides concedes, and is just kind of There for the duration, and dream-Couya is now thinking about how she’s going to have sex with her once she’s done with her task, this is self-evident in a dream-logic way, as if it’s an inevitable part of the process she’s undergoing.
They make it to the palace with the water now up to their necks and Couya kneels on the steps, placing God on the top of the stairway. It is suddenly no longer a calf but a full grown bull aurochs, crowned in three curved pairs of horns. It has an erection. This is Mitlamache in the flesh. It says something to her that she knows is very, very important, but she can’t remember it. At this point the dream tone-shifts and she’s like ‘Cool. Okay now it’s time to plow my brother’s hot wife’ but tragically wakes up before this can occur.
How she interprets the dream:
It is a full description of the incoming journey and situation. God is severed from power, weak and vulnerable and threatened, and needs the protection of its people. Couya seems to be the only one capable of helping it. Through her actions, It is revived and manifests as Mitlamache in its wholeness, ready to restore severed death-rebirth cycle and renew the land’s fertility. It is only restored upon being brought to the palace, suggesting that the increasingly popular belief that the imperial family should be ousted in favor of the Odomache as priest-emperor is the correct way to go. This is a call to arms, a signal that her role in things will be vital, and guidance as to what needs to be done. Not really sure what the Hibrides thing is about but whatever.
Literal mundane meaning of the dream (given I am trying to write this as a realistic dream and this character’s brain processing memories and anxieties):
It’s a manifestation of wider cultural anxieties about the current situation, though displayed through a flood rather than drought (slow, creeping threat). The dogs are compoundations of this threat, being reviled animals attacking something sacred, reflecting cultural anxieties about the empire being torn apart from outside and within (active, immediate threat). ‘God’ is feeble and weak and Couya wants to give herself to save it, it's her duty, she's an empty vessel. The active threat of the dog is maintained for a while, reflective of feelings of constant external threats along the way. People watch on but no one is willing to help her- feelings of isolation, feelings that she's the only one that can do this. The calf becoming a bull aurochs with three pairs of horns and a prominent erection is just how Mitlamache is usually depicted in art, not a directly psychosexual thing. Hibrides is there because Couya has a crush on her, there ARE undercurrents of sexual frustration there.
So like after having this dream she’s primed to think she has a key, very important role to play. This does not immediately translate to her being like ‘Okay so I’m supposed to be the Odomache’, it’s initially just a signal that her intended job of being one of the calf’s emissaries is uniquely critical. The conclusion that she is to become a god-emperor is the end result of a long spiral of events, further (mostly more liberally interpreted) dreams, hallucinations and religious delusions, but it all is based in the aforementioned factors: She understands herself as an empty vessel, and she has recieved messages from God that she is to be the one to restore it. It eventually becomes a fairly obvious conclusion.
One other MAJOR perceived omen along the way is (while Couya, Tigran and Palo and the calf are separated from the group) the three of them being stalked through a more densly treed patch of savannah by a pair of starving wild lionesses. They are inadvertently saved when a bull buffalo separates from its herd and charges at the lions (as a common form of anti-predatory aggression, a large bull could usually drive away two starving lionesses), only for a male lion to appear from hiding and the three lions to kill it instead. Couya's in the middle of a particularly intense break from reality and witnesses this in a dreamlike state, with the meaning feeling very obvious and as very directed symbolism. The wild bull, a sacred animal to Mitlamache like the calf, has given its life to save the people and the sacrificial calf. The starving lions (Odomache) consume its corpse and regain strength in its death, emerging victorious. It seems to be a very pointed signal of how things are going to go, a strong message aimed at Couya specifically.
A lot of it is things that happen on the pilgrimage, with the final tipping point in her mental journey being a massacre of civilians in a Loberan farming village (after an attempt to extract Charitable Tribute For The Pilgrimage goes horribly wrong). This happened in large part because of Stavis Amanti’s relative weakness, deference to his advising parties, and complete inability to control his troops (and this Did truly become a massive and extremely significant stain on the Imperial family’s reputation and started a chain of events that would eventually spiral into a civil war). Watching Imperial citizens, supposed to be under the protection of the Usoma, being slaughtered was an ultimate signal to her that the Imperial Family is corrupt, weak, godless, and must be replaced. And at this point a combination of other factors has persuaded her that she’s the only one that can do it, certainly not Faiza (who has been the presumed candidate for Odomache and is loyal to the royal family). This is where it fully solidifies into hijacking the rites and planning a coup.
#This might not fully cover the question but gives a broad gist I think#The buffalo interrupting a lion hunt by charging them and then getting eaten is straight up just something I saw in a nature doc about#african wild dogs and was like 'Oh yeah this would be so perfect'#couya haidamane

Put On Your Raincoats | Bodies in Heat (Vatelli, 1983)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/9f117e8d555f368171b3e82fc91c78e6/c8845a62708f4948-97/s540x810/0046fd2fb6af317a7112de90a561a79a9241a5a8.jpg)
Porn and noir make for natural bedfellows as they're both a little seedy at heart, and their characters are often motivated by the same things, so naturally a hardcore riff on Body Heat seemed like a no-brainer to check out this month. Given the runtime, this does not build to the same horny, sweaty delirium as its mainstream counterpart, but what this does pretty well is use its sex scenes to further the story. Early scenes like the one between police detective Herschel Savage and suspect Janey Robbins, or between Savage and fellow police officer Kimberly Carson, nicely sketch out Savage's lack of scruples and weak moral fibre. Annette Haven's scenes with her mob lawyer husband Eric Edwards give us a sense of their fraught marriage. And the cross cut masturbation scenes with Haven and Savage show them being pulled together against Savage's better judgment.
And on a prurient level, there's consistent sexual chemistry and a nice variation in the level of energy and raunch across the scenes, keeping them pretty watchable all the way through. And while nobody will consider Robbins' voluminous wig and Carson's mop mullet to be "good" hairstyles, I have to say they were really doing it for me, as was Robbins' extremely vocal performance. The weakest sex scene here is between Billy Dee and Crystal Fire, two of Savage's fellow officers who couple off during a pool party / orgy that Savage hosts, not because it's a bad sex scene per se, but because it doesn't involve either main character and doesn't further the story or our understanding of the characters and their relationships.
From a casting perspective, you could do a lot worse than putting Annette Haven in your neo noir. Haven has an Old Hollywood allure to her, which goes a long way in convincing us how one could be persuaded to kill for her. I'm not saying I would do so myself, because I understand that murder is WRONG. But I get why someone would. This actually has pretty good performances across the board, including a "special guest appearance" AKA non-sex role by Lisa De Leeuw, whose charms Savage manages to resist by adhering to his mantra. "Never dip your pen in the office ink."
This is directed by Paul Vatelli, who shoots this pretty nicely (there's a particularly effective rack focus from Edwards slapping Haven in the background to Savage contemplating what he's learned in the foreground), but alas the transfer I watched was from a muddy VHS rip, so the visuals didn't pop for me as much as they did in his other films I've seen. So it would be really nice if this got a restoration and a fancy schmancy Blu-ray release one of these days.

What’s a question you’ve always wanted someone to ask?
Of course, a question about glove fetishes. And personal concerns about glove fetishes. Preferably from a woman, preferably lesbian or bi. Also, I know this isn't a question, but if you have any info on Janey's account being restored, please let me know ASAP!

DEADLY NIGHTSHADE ↳↳ accepting ( @janefaery )
❛ how long has it been since you’ve eaten ? ❜
the town hall was important to uma, important to the isle restoration efforts and to the isle's efforts to recognized as its own entity. it was important to present the isle as a place that was in need of dire aid, yet maintain that the reason behind their current state was of no fault of their own. despite asking for resources, work and funding, the they need to ensure that all those listening and viewing the talks and negotiations knew that those of the isle were not only willing, but ready to work to be self-reliant. harry hated navigating the muddy, oilspilled waters of auradon's political game, but that didn't mean that he wasn't good at it. working on the sidelines, in the shadows, manipulating people — a word there, a suggestion there — timing and location became everything and more. getting the right people talking to each other, about the right thing, it all fell to who was better at seeing the threads and harry had trained himself since he had been a child to read them.
so he spoke with uma. they planned, they debated, they argued, they agreed. all of it before the sun rose, and once the sun set. harry split his attentions between the work, and keeping an eye on uma. ensuring there were no snakes playing a similar game with her. keeping her fed, convincing her to stop working an hour after sun set. managing time, despite his inability to actually read an analog clock, came easy to him when it was for others but for himself, well — harry blinked when jane seemingly appeared in front of him with a plate of food and a question.
" i've eaten. " harry said, because it was the first thing he could think of. he remembered getting uma a plate. remembered telling jaq to eat. remembering telling jonas he could take a break from spying and drink something. in between however, he couldn't remember eating himself. not since breakfast. harry's brows furrowed slightly as he held his hand out for the plate, " i thought i had. " a poor excuse, and harry knew it. he would be no good to anyone if he didn't eat himself. harry relaxed and offered jane a small smile.
" you checking up on me, janey ? "

So, you really thought all it took was a piece of paper pilfered from Helios to make Rhys Strongfork into the proud CEO and re-founder of Atlas? Ha! No, my optimistic friends--take it from old Marcus, the business world doesn't work that way, not even close. There is always, shall we say, the fine print to consider, yes? The Vault of the Traveler whisked our down-and-out company man to Promethea, where Atlas' old Board of Directors turned up their noses at his bold claim to the once-mighty company. Then, they sent the disgraced Hyperion middle manager on a dangerous assignment right back to Pandora, to prove his leadership skill. There, Rhys set out to find Atlas' defunct facilities where they sat gathering rust and dust. Surely, somewhere inside them waits the key to restoring the company's lost glory. Of course it won't be easy. His task comes with uncertain allies, hidden foes, and a not negligible side helping of inner demons, just for good measure. But I ask you this: Would my dear listeners have it any other way?

also, if you have something against lgbtq+, feel free not to read this fic and leave my page :)
you’re my best friend.
“You alright?” Ben lightly touches Jane’s arm and it sends shivers down her spine. She’s not alright with him touching her like that.
She shrugs her shoulders just to seem indifferent and turns to the window. “I will be, when I have those chicken nuggets”. She hears him chuckle, but it doesn’t make her smile. She has all these memories running through her mind and she can’t stop thinking. This pain reminds her of an old one, the scars of which are still fresh.
Ten years ago.
The laugh and insults were echoing in Jane’s mind as she was standing in the school hall, completely startled and shattered. She felt her heart breaking into million pieces when she saw Leah standing next to Naomi Frasier, who was victoriously sneering. Leah was standing there, and she was laughing at Jane. Everyone were laughing, loudly and disdainfully.
Jane felt like dying right there, in the hall, where people were coming near her, just to laugh and throw pictures in her face. Dying felt like the best option.
She heard a voice calling her from a huge distance. All voices actually merged in some mixture of sounds, and she couldn’t tell whether they were all real or just in her head.
“Jane!” The voice was getting louder and louder. Jane turned her head and saw her best friend, Jazminne, clasping her wrist. “Jane, please”, she looked at her pitifully, “let’s leave”.
Jane frowned, not quite realizing what Jazminne was saying. “Leave?” she mouthed.
Suddenly Jane felt a pinch on her left shoulder. After slowly turning her head, she almost bursted into tears. “Leave?” said Naomi, who was now standing near her. “Oh no, dear Jenny, you can’t leave. The party’s just started!” Naomi’s laugh was disgusting and ugly, but it brought Jane to her senses immediately. It also made her realize what had just happened.
What a bitch.
“Leave her the fuck alone, Naomi”, Jazminne let go of Jane’s wrist and came closely to the girl. “You’ve done enough; you’ve had your fun, now just stop”. Naomi was a bit shorter than Jazminne, who wasn’t actually really tall too – but Frasier still looked like a child compared to Gardner.
Naomi let out a laugh. “The problem is, Gardner, that I still want to have more fun. And also restore justice”. She looked at Jane. “We do not tolerate any immorality in our school. And that’s exactly what she’s been doing”, Naomi pointed at Jane.
God, she was angry. Jane looked at Jazminne’s hair, just not to look at Naomi’s obnoxious face. She clenched her hands so tightly that her nails were digging in the soft skin of her palm. How much do you have to hate someone to do something like that?
“Immorality?” Jazminne raised her brows. “Are you fucking kidding me, Frasier? What’s immoral about that?”
“You even wonder?” Naomi seemed to be genuinely surprised. “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them”.
“Are you seriously quoting the Bible right now?” Jazminne couldn’t believe her ears.
When Jazminne opened her mouth to say another thing, she was suddenly interrupted. “How the fuck is it about me?”
Naomi seemed to be puzzled by Jane’s comment; she didn’t expect her to speak at all. She looked at Jane and then sneered. Again.
“It’s the same thing. Men being with men is as equally gross as women being with women. It’s just not natural”.
“Against the laws of Mother Nature, right?”
“Glad you understand that, Chinny”.
Silence covered the whole hall as Jane continued speaking. “I don’t, actually. I don’t understand why would you take pictures of me kissing and making out with Leah and then humiliate me. I don’t understand why you make it look like I’ve killed someone. I haven’t harmed anyone but myself. I don’t, and I can’t understand that. I’m not sure I ever will”. Tears were burning Jane’s cheeks as she stormed out of the hall, and then out of the school. Jazminne gave Naomi a death stare that could kill Frasier right then and there, ripped one picture from the wall and ran after Jane.
She was out in the street, standing in the cold April rain and crying. She was hurt, so deeply and horribly, that she felt like she couldn’t live with it. She had never been hurt like that.
“Jane, come on”, Jazminne put her hand on Jane’s shoulder. “Let’s leave. You’ll get sick”.
“Maybe I’ll die after that”. She could barely speak as her teeth were chattering.
“Don’t say that”.
Jane looked at Jazminne and bit her lip, trying to stop herself from weeping. “Come on, Jane. Let’s go home”.
After a moment Jane was sitting in Jazminne car, trying to warm herself up. She was doing it unintentionally – because in reality all Jane wanted was to freeze in the street and die quickly.
“Do you want to talk?” Jazminne said before starting the car. Jane shook her head and turned to the window. Jazminne let out a deep sigh. These fifteen minutes just won’t be easy, she thought, they will be silent and sad. And they were indeed.
When the car stopped at the Chinny’s house driveway, Jane almost flew out of the car. Jazminne took a deep breath and followed her best friend.
Jane was quick to find the keys in her bag. Jazminne just took one step into the house, when Jane was already running up the stairs. Jaz was rushing after her; she was constantly thinking that Jane might do something to herself. Something terrible. She couldn’t let that happen.
She came into Jane’s room and saw her lying on the bed, loudly crying. She was weeping. With her face buried in pillows and her muffled sobs, Jane looked as wretched as ever. Jazminne was on the verge of crying herself. She couldn’t bear seeing her best friend suffering. “Janey”, she tried to hide the trembling in her voice, “Janey, please, talk to me. I will do anything to help you”.
Jane raised her head and looked Jazminne straight in the eyes. Her face was fully red from crying, and she was angry. “What you’re gonna do, Jaz?” her voice sounded bitter. “How you’re gonna undo everything? There is no way to fix that”, she said resting her head on the pillow, “Nothing can be done. I’m going to be bullied even more. Now for my sexuality”, she let out a sad chuckle, and her eyes were filled with tears again. Jazminne sighed deeply and sat down on the floor, in front of Jane’s bed.
“Look, you’ve got to tell me what happened between you and Leah. So that Emily and I could start plotting the revenge plan”.
“I don’t want that”.
“What do you want us to do, then?”
Jane looked at her. “To leave me the fuck alone, Jaz. That’s all I want now”.
Jazminne nodded and silently left her friend’s room; while closing the door, she heard Jane sobbing once again.
She didn’t know what to do. She and Emily weren’t of great use and Emily especially, with her sneezing and coughing right now. Calling Jane’s parents weren’t an option either – Jane probably hadn’t come out to them yet; so it would be difficult to explain all of it to them at once. It was one way. Jazminne didn’t quite like it, but he would be certainly of great help.
She ran downstairs; it took her a couple of minutes to take the phone in her hands and find Jones’ home number. It was the first time in Gardner’s life when she was praying for him to pick up. “Hello”, Jaz let out a breath of relief, when she heard his raspy, sleepy voice.
“Ben, it’s Jazminne. I need you to come to Jane’s house. She’s in trouble. I’m afraid she might do something to herself”.
In ten minutes Ben was already knocking on the front door; not loud enough for Jane to hear it, though.
“What happened?” he whispered, when Jazminne locked the door after him.
“Naomi ‘outed’ her”, Jaz said quietly. “In front of the whole school”.
Ben looked too confused, and Jaz had a sudden desire to punch him in his stupid face. “Gardner, I have no fucking idea what ‘outed’ means”. Jazminne sighed.
“She’s bisexual”. Jaz was quite for a moment. “So Naomi found that out and revealed it to everyone at school, without Jane’s permission. That’s what ‘outed’ means”.
Ben closed his eyes and sighed. What the fuck? “Did you know about that?” he asked that, obviously hiding the real question which was “Did she tell you?”
“Emily and I only assumed, never asked her directly”, Jazminne shrugged. “You had no idea, had you?”
Ben shook his head. “Feels like a brand new world”, he mumbled, heading upstairs. “You staying?”
“Yeah”, Jaz answered. “Just in case”.
Ben nodded and went to Jane’s room; he was puzzled, confused, startled. Jane was bi? How come he had never noticed that? How come he had never asked? How come she had never told him?
He quietly knocked on her door. There was no answer. He knocked again.
“Go away”. Her voice sounded sharply; but Ben knew she was just hiding her pain under that. He opened the door and came in.
Jane sat down on the bed, tightly hugging her pillow; her face was as red as the shirt Ben was wearing, her makeup completely ruined and her hair was a mess. But she, somehow, looked ridiculously beautiful to Ben.
“The fuck you doing here?” she said, looking at him.
“T’s a warm welcome”.
“I don’t want to see you”. She turned her head and started starring at the wall. Ben knew she did that only to hide her tears.
“Yes, you do. You always want to see me”, he sat down on the bed, facing her.
“Not now”, she answered and bit her lip. Jane took a deep breath and that was the moment Ben understood what he had to do. He moved closer to her and touched her hand gently.
“Come here”.
Jane finally pulled her eyes of the wall and looked at Ben. It seemed to him that he could see the world in her eyes.
“No, or I’ll cry again. I don’t want to cry anymore, Ben”, she whispered, covering her face with her hands. Ben was fast enough to put his arms around her and pull her closer. He felt his heart beating too fast, and it made him a bit nervous. But it wasn’t as much important at that moment as Jane, who was sobbing into his chest, while clinging to the back of his shirt. She needed that, she needed a good cry. She also needed someone to hold her close, running their fingers through her hair and quietly whispering, “It’s okay”. Ben was that someone; and Jane didn’t need anybody else. Just her best friend.
They both didn’t know how much time passed before Jane stopped crying; she slowly pulled away from Ben, wiping her cheeks and breathing heavily. “I ruined your tee-shirt”, she sniffled, “sorry ‘bout that”.
“Got plenty of ‘em”, Ben looked at her. “Stop apologizing”.
In fact, he couldn’t stop looking at her. He felt a sudden necessity to wipe her tears away with his thumb and then kiss her. That desire sent shivers down his spine and made Ben swallow nervously; he couldn’t understand why he was thinking like that about his best friend.
“Thanks”, she said quietly, looking at him. Ben’s heart was ready to jump out of his chest. Why’s it happening to me?
“Don’t even mention it”. Jane took a deep breath and for a moment Ben was scared she was going to cry again; but she just swallowed and looked back at him.
“Did Jaz tell you anything?”
“Only that Naomi ‘outed’ you”, Ben was going to continue speaking, but Jane interrupted him.
“What’s ‘outed’?”
Ben let out a chuckle. “Means she told everyone you’re bisexual without your consent. I didn’t know either what it means either”. Jane’s cheeks flushed and Ben, once again, saw her eyes filling with tears. He took her hand in his and gently squeezed it. “Jane, you can tell me. I won’t ever judge you”.
She looked at him and sighed deeply. Ben felt her hand shaking. “I was going to tell you, I just…just…couldn’t”, she stuttered, as she felt the oxygen leaving her whole body; Jane thought she was going to choke on tears, anger and pain. “I didn’t even tell my parents, I was so scared”, she whispered, “scared that something like this would happen”.
“What happened exactly?” Ben asked carefully, hoping she would tell him.
Jane took a deep breath. “A month ago I had my first kiss. With a girl”, she was silent for a moment. “With Leah Kay”. Ben raised his eyebrows; he was truly taken aback by this.
“Leah Kay?” he said loudly, “the most talentless and obtuse person alive? Seriously, Jane?”
“Could you just shut up?” she suddenly got annoyed; no wonder it happened – Ben was always able to change Jane’s emotional state from one to another with a snap of the fingers. “I’m trying to open up here!” Ben smiled, and Jane pinched his shoulder. He sighed and apologized; and he never let go of her hand. “So we were going out, kissing, making out in her house, and…” Jane swallowed. “And turned out Naomi had planned all of it. She was taking pictures of us, while Leah was just lying to me all the time. Today at school there was a whole exhibition of our pictures”. Jane’s whole face went red again, and one tear was streaming down her cheek; she tried to swallow the lump in her throat, and Ben could feel her pain. It made his heart break into pieces; he had never seen Jane being so vulnerable and defenseless. She was always the tough one, the girl who never cried. Ben cried way more often than Jane did, if being honest.
It made him sick; as he thought about what she had to face at school today. Naomi had always been an ass towards Jane, but what she did today totally crossed the line. Jane didn’t deserve it. No one did.
Jane sniffled. “Feels like this crying will never stop”. She wiped the tears with the back of her palm and sighed. “Maybe I just deserved it or whatever”.
“No”, her eyes seemed to know no end, as Ben just couldn’t stop looking in them. He had never noticed before how wonderful they looked. “You did not deserve that”.
It seemed like she needed his reassurance, his warmth and help. She sniffled one more time and clenched her hand tightly again, making her nails dig into her skin; but this time Ben was there to take her hand into his.
“Don’t do this”, he said quietly. He held her hand for a while before noticing the marks her nails left. He sighed deeply. How come he had never noticed how broken she was? Then Ben kissed her knuckles. Her skin was soft and it was the first time he noticed all the scars she had on the back of her palm.
“They do not deserve you”, he whispered’ holding her hands tightly and looking her right in the eyes. “None of them do”. Jane looked at him and felt a new urge to cry. This time it was because of the unconditional love she felt for her best friend.
“Ben”, she gasped, “I don’t think I’ll ever be able to pay you back”.
He smiled softly. “You don’t have to. You are my best friend. I’ll do anything for you”.
back to the presence.
The cab stops at the red light; Jane is still looking out of the window. Ben is stressed out by her behavior, unable to sit straight. He is twisting and turning, until Jane finally notices his movements.
“Your ass scratching or what?” she is annoyed; Jane looks at him and he freezes under her gaze. “Stop this moving, you’re going to get us kicked out of the car!” She has no idea why she is so angry with Ben suddenly. Of course, she is still displeased about seeing him with another girl and about her feelings in general – but this came out too harsh and sharp.
“Always polite and nice, as usual”, he mutters. “If you didn’t behave as weird as you do, I wouldn’t be turning, trying to get your attention”.
Jane snorts. “Oh, sorry I do not pay attention to you. Thought you’ve had enough of it today”.
“And what do you mean by that?”
She sighs. “Nothing. Haven’t you got it already? I don’t always mean something by my stupid words”.
Ben knows that she does. He knows exactly what she means; and it is him and that girl in a blue dress. She is jealous – this is something Ben can’t get over that easily. He just wishes to kiss her right now, on the backseat of this cab. He wants to run his fingers through her hair and hear her quite moans as he deepens the kiss. He knows she’ll shiver under his touch; he’s sure her hands will be around his neck as he pulls her closer to him. He knows it’ll happen; it will certainly occur in the future. Just not now.
“Ben”, she suddenly turns to him again, “remember when you humiliated Leah Kay in front of the whole town?”
Ben frowns for a second, trying to remember that exact moment; but then he snorts loudly. “First of all, I did not humiliate her. It’s not my fault that she had never learnt her lines for our plays. That she didn’t know the plot of ‘Romeo and Juliet’?” He looks at Jane, as she smiles. “Not my fault either”.
“Sure thing”, her mood has changed again; Jane really starts thinking her period’s gonna come early. “It’s not your fault that only in her script there was a line ‘Romeo, thy dick is thick’, which got her suspended later”, Ben grins at her words and nods. “Anyways, I never got to thank you for that. So thank you, Ben”, the car stops when Jane says his name, and they sit in silence for a couple of seconds.
Ben takes a deep breath as he looks her right in the eyes. “Don’t even mention it, Jane”.

Prime Minister of Australia, self-styled “ScoMo”, enjoys a Laff With the Lads while looking at plans for retaining precious Queensland seats.
“It’ll be a bit easier with old Janey off our hands, hey. Ha ha,” Mr Morrison said in reference to the big red inky slash through the name of longstanding and well-respected soon-to-be-former Member for Ryan, Jane Prentice, who was one of the few Queensland MPs in the Coalition to have a positive swing (+0.45) in the disastrous 2016 Federal Election where the statewide swing against the Liberal National Party was -2.47. Prior to her election to parliament, Mrs Prentice had served as a councillor on the Brisbane City Council for ten years.
Mrs Prentice was not preselected for the seat of Ryan, losing to baby-faced Cr Julian Simmonds, restoring the balance of Men Who Look Like They Should Work In A Telstra Shop to the Queensland ticket.

The valley has a long and bloody history, laced with folklore, and in it sits a house above the beach that has lain neglected since the war. It comes with a reputation and a strange atmosphere, which is why mother and daughter Magdalena and Mila manage to acquire it so cheaply in the fateful summer of 1954. Magda has grand plans to restore the house to its former glory as a venue for glittering parties, where the rich and celebrated gathered for cocktails and for bracing walks along the coast. UHH, there is respawning enemy vehicles but i've only ever encountered them while in a vehicle and been able to eliminate them very quickly? honestly bc of the oxygen mechanic i'm in a vehicle as often as i can be in the, like, general open world map parts
oodlyenough replied to your post “oodlyenough replied to your post “got bored with the borderlands 2...”
also idk how much you've epxerimented but ive' found that even when my ozkit hits 0, i have a good 5-10 seconds to get to oxygen while nisha wheezes, it's not an instant death
oodlyenough replied to your post “oodlyenough replied to your post “got bored with the borderlands 2...”
ALSO there's those holes in the ground venting oxygen that will fill your kit up right away (or almost; you just need to stand in one for like, a second). if you hadn't found those. i think it took me a while to notice them.
i actually managed to survive without air for like a minute, because i had no idea what i was doing and vaguely assumed that the oxygen vents restored air even if you didn’t have an oz kit, so tim was just fucking dying while i was running around being bad at video games. sorry tim! i was much more careful after that. not careful enough to not fall into a pit of lava while trying to get janey’s ECHO, but still. i am. not a fan of the jumping controls, either.

Mayoral forum places the concentrate on Newmarket
The 6 significant mayoral candidates on Tuesday laid out their strategies for dealing with homelessness and financial development in the city’s Newmarket spot, an industrial community that is also a hub for dependancy and recovery products and services.
The Newmarket Small business Affiliation, the South Finish Forum, Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative, Pine Street Inn, and the Andrew Square and McCormack Civic Associations hosted the morning discussion board, which took position at the nearby headquarters of Suffolk Construction. WCVB-Channel 5’s Karen Holmes Ward served as the moderator.
The discussion board arrived several hours soon after the launch of a poll from Suffolk University and the Boston Globe giving a snapshot of the race.
The poll surveyed 500 most likely preliminary voters amongst June 23 and June 26. Requested about their to start with preference, 23.4 % explained Town Councillor at-Substantial Michelle Wu experienced their vote in the Sept. 14 preliminary, which will slim the discipline to two candidates. Performing Mayor Kim Janey was the preference of 21.6 % of people surveyed.
They ended up adopted by Councillor at-Big Annissa Essaibi George (14.4 %), District 4 Councillor Andrea Campbell (10.8 percent), South End condition Rep. Jon Santiago (4.6 %), and John Barros, previous Mayor Marty Walsh’s economic development chief (1.8 p.c).
The 6 came together beneath a single roof and in-person to chat about the troubles going through Newmarket, which has 8,300 positions, a variety that is 1.3 p.c of the city’s full, in accordance to the city’s arranging agency. Forty p.c of the personnel are living in Dorchester and Roxbury. The space also serves the city’s most vulnerable people.
At the discussion board, the candidates were pressed on extensive-time period treatment amenities and many advocated for a regional method.
Essaibi George called for bringing again the Prolonged Island campus, reopening it for restoration companies and rebuilding the bridge to the Harbor web-site, which has been the matter of a authorized fight between Boston and the neighboring town of Quincy, which controls the road foremost to the proposed bridge. She also reported a ferry services ought to be explored.
Explained Barros: “Boston can’t carry the whole load.” He pointed out that added mental health facilities and a lot more dormitories are wanted simply because condition officers have cut back on the variety of beds.
Barros extra that the city must create a crew of social employees and mental wellness professionals who function 24 hours a day, 7 times a week close to the place to offer with the homeless and drug dealing transpiring in there. “Our politicians are failing them ideal now,” he mentioned.
Janey, the performing mayor, provided a rebuttal of types in expressing, “We are performing on these issues each and every single working day,” and moving persons from tents to housing.
Campbell claimed she experienced pressed Walsh when he was mayor to do extra and focus on tapping vacant town lots. The city nevertheless needs to step up, she stated, and devote in increasing shelters.
Wu noted that she formerly visited crisis shelters in the metropolis, together with the just one on Extended Island a 7 days ahead of the old bridge top to it arrived down. Affordable housing is important, she claimed, since she observed how difficult it was to obtain a bed.
“We need to have to tackle the root results in of this situation,” said Wu.
Santiago, a doctor who lives close by in the South Finish, explained there is also a lack of coordination between legislation enforcement and stability companies. “We’re not going to arrest our way out of this,” he claimed, so officers should be offered capabilities, schooling and added assist personnel to help with handling the area’s homelessness and drug challenges.
Through a lightning spherical, all agreed that methadone, utilized for working with opioid use condition, really should be more commonly available in pharmacies, and they all backed the creation of a small business enhancement district (BID) for Newmarket. All of them also supported the electrification of the Fairmount commuter rail line, which transportation advocates say could pace up coach service and boost air top quality.
When the matter turned to development, most of the candidates agreed that streamlining was essential, as critics of the city’s development method say every little thing normally takes also very long.
Wu, who has named for the abolishment of the Boston Organizing and Development Agency (BPDA), pointed to “outdated” zoning codes, whilst Barros, noting his tenure in the Walsh administration, mentioned town officers really should make guaranteed they’re utilizing designs previously mentioned.
“We’ve got a lot of designs on the shelf,” he stated. “Let’s shift ahead with them.”

Jonathan Osterman is born in 1929 to a German-American family. Jon plans to follow in his father's footsteps as a watchmaker, but when the U.S. drops the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, his father declares his profession outdated and instead forces him to work toward a career studying nuclear physics. The incident represents the turning point in Jon's potential future from watchmaker to nuclear physicist, and foreshadows Doctor Manhattan's "exterior" perception of time as predetermined and all things within it as so determined, including Manhattan's own reactions and emotions.
Jon attends Princeton University and graduates with a Ph.D. in atomic physics. In early 1959, he moves to a research base at Gila Flats, where experiments are being performed on the "intrinsic fields" of physical objects which, if tampered with, result in their disintegration. Here he meets Janey Slater, a fellow researcher; they eventually become lovers. During a visit to an amusement park in New Jersey, Janey's wristwatch is broken, which Jon promises to fix. However, one month later, Jon discovers he has left the repaired watch in his labcoat inside a test chamber. While he is inside, the door to the chamber closes and locks. The researchers are unable to open the door or override the countdown, and Jon's body is torn to pieces from the force of the generator.
In the following months, a series of strange events and apparitions occur at the research base, leading residents to speculate that the area is haunted. It becomes apparent that Jon is progressively re-forming himself during this time, as indicated by a series of partial bodily reappearances: first a disembodied nervous system including the brain and eyes; then as a circulatory system; and then as a partially muscled skeleton. Each time, the appearance lasts for only a few seconds. Jon eventually fully reappears as a tall, hairless, naked and blue-skinned man, glowing with a "flare of ultraviolet."
Before WatchmenEdit
Jon gradually becomes a pawn of the U.S. government, which gives him the code name "Doctor Manhattan"—a reference to the Manhattan Project—and a costume which he begrudgingly accepts. Doctor Manhattan chooses as his emblem a representation of a hydrogen atom, whose simplicity he declares to be something that kindles his respect; accordingly, he painlessly burns the mark into his forehead. This preference for material mechanisms marks the beginning of his declining humanity, which is progressively mirrored by his gradual shedding of the uniform; by the end of the 1970s, he refuses to wear anything at all except during mandatory public appearances.
However, Manhattan's presence tips the balance of the Cold War in the West's favor, and U.S. foreign policy becomes more militaristic as a result. At President Richard Nixon's request, he secures an American victory in the Vietnam War one week after Manhattan's direct involvement, which subsequently allows Nixon to repeal the 22nd Amendment and serve up to five terms. Moreover, far from solving the problems underlying international tensions, Manhattan's presence exacerbates them while stifling their expression, which inevitably builds toward disaster; the entire plot of Watchmen occurs during the countdown to a potential nuclear war.
Since he works for the U.S. government, Manhattan is exempt from a federal law outlawing costumed heroes, but spends much of his time conducting research. He is single-handedly responsible for the shift to electric-powered vehicles, and Adrian Veidt credits him with causing a huge leap forward in a myriad of science and technology sectors. As a result, the technology of the alternative 1985 of the Watchmen universe is far more advanced. During the only meeting of the Crimebusters group, Manhattan becomes attracted to Laurie Juspeczyk, the second Silk Spectre. His relationship with Janey ends acrimoniously shortly after, and he begins dating Laurie.
Events of WatchmenEdit
At the start of Watchmen, Manhattan works at the Rockefeller Military Research Center, where he lives with Laurie. Rorschach comes to inform the two of the murder of Edward Blake, aka the Comedian, and warns them that all former costumed adventurers are being targeted by a "mask killer." Manhattan dismisses Rorschach by teleporting him outside, and encourages Laurie to go out with Dan Dreiberg, the second Nite Owl. Shortly afterwards, Manhattan attends Blake's funeral with Veidt and Dreiberg, reflects on his association with Blake during the Vietnam War, and senses the presence of the former villain Moloch.
During an appearance on a talk show, a reporter ambushes Manhattan with allegations that he caused cancer in his former associates, including Janey. Seeking solitude, he transports himself to Mars. The Soviet Union exploits his absence by invading Afghanistan and sparking an international crisis. Eventually, Manhattan brings Laurie to Mars to discuss why he should aid humanity, an argument Laurie inadvertently wins when she realizes to her shock that her father is Blake, a man she despised for sexually assaulting her mother. From this revelation, Manhattan is amazed by the improbable chances that occurred to result in the birth of Laurie, a chain of events he sees as a stunning "thermodynamic miracle." Realizing that, by extension, this miracle can apply to any living thing on Earth, Manhattan is persuaded to return to Earth to protect humanity rather than disregarding it as insignificant.
Veidt is found to have framed Manhattan as part of his overall plot to avert World War III by attacking New York with an engineered monster, killing half of the city in the process. Although Manhattan and Laurie return too late to stop Veidt, they teleport to his base in Antarctica to confront him. Veidt tries to disintegrate Manhattan, only for Manhattan to restore himself more quickly than Veidt expected. However, upon seeing that Veidt's plan has averted war, Manhattan realizes that to expose him would be too dangerous for life on Earth, and agrees to stay silent. Rorschach leaves with the intention of exposing the truth, causing Manhattan to vaporize him. Manhattan decides to depart Earth again, suggesting that he desires to find a galaxy "less complicated than this one." When Veidt asks if his plan worked out in the end, Manhattan replies, "In the end? Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends."
In the DC UniverseEdit
"The New 52" and "DC Rebirth"Edit
After departing from the Watchmen universe, Manhattan was aware of the DC Universe being filled with hope inside humanity, and traveled there to find a place among those people and start a new life. But at some point, his visions showed him an arms race among metahumans that caused an incoming "World War III", leading Manhattan to have a confrontation with Superman, and then he saw "nothing".[6] This revelation led Manhattan to modify the DC Universe's mainstream timeline in order to fix the fissures caused by the several Crises across the Multiverse. However, those actions would not get the expected result, which would lead to the creation of The New 52.[7]
During the events of Flashpoint, Manhattan misled Pandora into convincing Barry Allen to merge three separate timelines (the DC Universe, the Wildstorm Universe and select Vertigo titles) in order to create Prime Earth.[7] The merger enables him to erase ten years from the reverted universe, which not only reverses the age of its inhabitants by ten years but also causes the multiple resurrections of several deceased characters.[8]
In the new timeline, Manhattan prevents the last wizard of the Council of Eternity from revealing to Pandora how to open the skull shaped box,[9] and kills Owlman and Metron after the former tries to access the secrets of the universe.[10] However, the Convergence caused by Brainiac and Telos restored the Multiverse, bringing back the pre-Flashpoint timeline.[11]
Doctor Manhattan used Abra Kadabra to trap Wally West within the Speed Force, and this modification in the timeline also caused other speedsters in the likes of Jesse Quick, Bart Allen, Jay Garrick and Max Mercury to be removed from history and trapped in the Speed Force. However Wally West was saved by Barry, therefore initiating the events of DC Rebirth. Doctor Manhattan then kills Pandora after she finally realizes that he was the one responsible for all of the sins for which she has been blamed.[8] Barry and Batman later began investigating the unknown force behind these changes,[12] learning from Lilith Clay that "Manhattan" was a prominent thought in Kadabra's mind when he claimed responsibility for removing Wally from history.[13]
Eobard Thawne attacks Batman as he is studying a blood-stained smiley face button left embedded within the wall of the Batcave. When Thawne picks up the button, he is briefly teleported away, returning with the left half of his body charred to the bone. Just before his death; he claims to have seen "God.”[14] Using the cosmic treadmill to chase after the radiation emitted from the button among the timestream, Batman and Barry discover Thawne as he was trying to reach "God.” Upon reaching the unseen figure, Thawne boosted his ability to exist as a paradox before he was vaporized by Manhattan, leaving only the button behind. Sometime later, Manhattan picks up the button as he recalls his dialogue with Laurie.[15]
Manhattan puts Bruce Wayne in contact with the Flashpoint Thomas Wayne, who tells his son to not become Batman before his "death" and the destruction of the last of the Flashpoint timeline,[16] prompting Bruce to not respond to the Bat-Signal the following night. Manhattan also saves Jor-El from the destruction of Krypton, before conditioning him to see only the very worst of humanity.[17] Jor-El assumes the identity of Mister Oz and tries to convince his son Kal-El, or Superman, to abandon Earth. However, when Jor-El begins to realize that he has been pushing against his son too far, he is pulled away. Superman acknowledges Jor-El's warnings even as he rejects his misanthropy.[18]
During the events of Heroes in Crisis, Batman suspects that the massacre on Sanctuary might be related to Manhattan's actions.[19] This theory was later proven to be partially true, as Wally gets in contact with Metron's Mobius Chair, which grants him part of Manhattan's powers.[20]
Events of Doomsday ClockEdit
During the events of Doomsday Clock, seven years after the events set in the Watchmen universe, Ozymandias (Adrian Veidt) is determined to find Doctor Manhattan in order to restore the world from chaos after his previous plan for world peace was exposed by Rorschach's journal.[21] Veidt narrates that he is able to track Doctor Manhattan, because Doctor Manhattan leaks electrons as his intrinsic field was stripped during his initial accident and an event caused by Veidt. Using the Owlship to quantum tunnel, accompanied by Rorschach II, Marionette, and Mime, Veidt follows the electron trail left behind by Doctor Manhattan to the DC Universe where they land in Gotham City.[22] Later, it is revealed that Doctor Manhattan is responsible for preventing the Comedian's death by teleporting him to the DC Universe.[23]
Doctor Manhattan recalls various events in which he indirectly killed Alan Scott and thus brought about changes in the timeline. On July 16, 1940, Alan Scott was riding on a train over a collapsing bridge, but he survived by grabbing onto a green lantern. He continues his life, eventually "sitting at a round table wearing a mask" and later testifying before the House Un-American Activities Committee but refusing to implicate anyone in his employ. On July 16, 1940 again, Doctor Manhattan moves the green lantern six inches out of his reach so that Alan Scott dies in the train accident and leaves no family behind, as the green lantern is passed through different locations. At a fun house in the present time, Bubastis II begins glowing, so Ozymandias moves him closer to the lantern to let him feed on Doctor Manhattan's temporal energies left on the lantern and thereby force Doctor Manhattan to their current location. Doctor Manhattan immediately proceeds to transport himself and the Watchmen group away, separating them from Batman and Joker. He tells Ozymandias that he isn't returning to their world as he's in the middle of something. He reveals that he didn't kill Marionette in the robbery years back because he saw what her child would do and that she is pregnant again. He also reveals that Ozymandias lied to Rorschach about having cancer, so Ozymandias admits to Rorschach that he deceived him and used him for his help. Doctor Manhattan then tells everyone that he came to the DC Universe looking for a place among them, but that he saw a vision of "the most hopeful among them. Heading toward [him]. Now hopeless." and then nothing in the future thereafter. Doctor Manhattan returns the team to the fun house. He himself returns to Mars, reflecting on a vision set one month in his future: a confrontation with Superman that may result in Superman destroying Doctor Manhattan or Doctor Manhattan destroying everything.[24]
On Mars, looking at a Legion Ring that once belonged to Ferro Lad, Doctor Manhattan contemplates on the events in which Ferro Lad sacrificed his life to save Earth's sun and thereby caused his ring to careen through time, the events in which he himself moved Alan Scott's lantern and thereby caused the ring to never have existed, as well as his confrontation with Superman set one week from now. On Earth, Batman and Superman are recovering from a massive explosion, which has produced a fog of tachyon particles that obscures the immediate past and future to Doctor Manhattan. Meanwhile, after tracing the energy signature of the explosion to Mars, many of Earth's superheroes travel in several spaceships to Mars for a confrontation with the suspected perpetrator. However, Batman believes that they are being "played" as he is not sure if they have the right person. With the heroes surrounding Doctor Manhattan, Martian Manhunter telepathically broadcasts Doctor Manhattan's final vision of Superman to everyone. The heroes believe that Doctor Manhattan is trying to destroy Superman and all of them before Superman destroys him. As Doctor Manhattan easily deals with the attacks by the heroes, he curiously examines and discloses the nature of the emotional spectrum by dissecting Guy Gardner's power ring and stating that the magic used by the Justice League Dark is from the "scraps of Creation." To prove the point that even hope decays, he shows Ronnie Raymond that Professor Martin Stein purposefully caused the circumstances where Raymond and Stein merged into Firestorm in order to learn more about metahumans from the inside. Back on Mars, refusing to believe the events of the past that was shown, Firestorm angrily attacks and harms Doctor Manhattan upon which the heroes realize that Doctor Manhattan is not invulnerable and destroy him. However, the superheroes watch in shock as Doctor Manhattan reconstitutes himself before he attacks and incapacitates the heroes.[25]
As he incapacitates the remaining heroes, Doctor Manhattan recounts the first time he arrived in the DC Universe on April 18, 1938. He meets Carver Colman. As they talk in a diner, Doctor Manhattan sees all moments of Carver's future until his death prior to April 19, 1955. Overhearing news of a mysterious man who lifted a car over his head, Doctor Manhattan leaves and witnesses the first appearance of the Golden Age Superman. From there, he witnesses the beginnings of Alan Scott/Green Lantern, Jay Garrick/The Flash, Hawkman, Atom, Doctor Fate, Sandman, Spectre, and Hourman, and the formation of the Justice Society of America. Doctor Manhattan then sees a different timeline where Superman was never a member of the JSA and first appeared in 1956 instead (Silver Age/Earth-1). Doctor Manhattan witnesses several variations of the death of Superman's foster parents: Jonathan and Martha Kent, the origins of Superman, and also when a young Superboy met the Legion of Super-Heroes. In order to appease his curiosity, Doctor Manhattan moves the Green Lantern away from Alan Scott, preventing the creation of the Green Lantern and the formation of the JSA, in order to see how the changes affect Superman. In the process of doing this, Doctor Manhattan realizes that this universe is not part of the Multiverse and it is the Metaverse, with the Multiverse reacting to the changes within this universe (hence why there have been endless parallel worlds, none at all, 52 universes, and a Dark Multiverse). Having changed history in the Metaverse, Doctor Manhattan created the New 52 Universe and as he witnesses the first appearance of the New 52 Superman, he is confronted by Wally West of the Pre-Flashpoint Universe, who briefly escapes the Speed Force to warn him that he knows what Doctor Manhattan did and that the heroes of the DC Universe will stop him, before being dragged back in. Doctor Manhattan likens Wally's appearance to the Metaverse fighting back at the changes done to it, an innate hope that fights back to the surface. He returns to Carver Colman on June 8, 1954, 10 seconds before he is killed by his mother, and he thinks upon the future he sees where Superman attacks him, believing that he will either die by Superman's hands or destroy the Metaverse. Back to present day, Doctor Manhattan returns to Earth and ponders on the fact that he is a being of inaction on a collision course with a man of action (Superman), and to this universe of hope, he has become the villain.[26]
After arriving on Earth, Manhattan meets Superman in person during Black Adam's invasion on the White House, with Ozymandias watching.[27] Manhattan witnesses Superman's fight with Black Adam and Russia's superhero team called the People's Heroes. He eventually reveals to Superman that he is the one who has been tampering with reality, and has also caused the death of Jonathan and Martha Kent. Manhattan expects Superman to attack him, but Superman instead protects him from Pozhar and then tells him that he should use his powers for good. Manhattan is inspired by Superman's heroism and his pivotal role in the fabric of reality; he undoes part of his actions, restoring much of the pre-New 52 timeline. Many characters are brought back into existence, including Superman's parents. Manhattan also goes back in time and changes Carver Colman's future for the better. He then goes back to the Watchmen universe, bringing Rorschach and Ozymandias with him. Manhattan saves his Earth by making all nuclear weapons disappear. Afterwards, he takes Mime and Marionette's infant son with him and proceeds to raise him on his own, so he will become their Planet's equivalent to Superman. Eventually, Doctor Manhattan goes back in time and changes his own past, creating a timeline where he never becomes superhuman, marries Janey and raises a family with her. Doctor Manhattan then erases himself from existence, transferring his lifeforce to the Planet and his powers to Mime and Marionette's son. He leaves the boy—whom he has named Clark—to be adopted by the former Nite Owl and Silk Spectre.[28]
After Doomsday ClockEdit
The events of Justice League #39 reveal that Doomsday Clock actually occurred in an alternate reality, however its impact was large enough to affect the mainline DC universe.
During the events of Dark Nights: Death Metal, Wally West reveals Doctor Manhattan's energy is Connective Energy, and after he restored the DC Universe,[28] the Quintessence's members collected that same energy against Perpetua. The Batman Who Laughs has Wally prisoner to get Manhattan's powers, but Wonder Woman suggests to use both the Connective and Crisis Energies in order to create an "Anti-Crisis". The event also features the "Final Bruce Wayne", an amalgamated version of Batman and Doctor Manhattan that The Batman Who Laughs wants to exploit in order to become "The Darkest Knight" and create a Multiverse consisting of chaos.[29]

i don’t want enough, i want it all
Pairing: Nisha/Badass Bandit, Handsome Jack/Nisha Content Rating: Mature Author’s Note: It's been a long while since I've wrote anything outside of research papers and assignments, especially fanfiction. This is the beginning to the dysfunctional relationship between Nisha and Jack, attempting to keep in tune with the events of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and fill in the void between Nisha and Jack becoming the power couple. Features some non-canon events regarding Nisha.
Content under a read more as it contains mature themes: sexual relations, slight bdsm, death by strangulation.
The slender legs of the lawbringer hung lazily off of Jack's desk, swinging in conjunction with the Eye of Helios' barrage against Pandora's geostationary moon, Elpis. Jack's office was filled with constant noise as if it wasn't the laser, it was the bickering and teasing between the vault hunters, or Jack screaming in frustration about any and every little thing. The vault hunters generally argued about whose shift it was to keep watch while the others slept but this time it was over something decent which was why Athena opted to spend her moonstones on backpack storage when she should have spent them more efficiently on ammo storage. Nisha tuned out the sounds of them bickering and the click clack of Jack's keyboard as he focused on restoring Hyperion controls back to him.
The vibrations caused by the eye's powerful laser forced a sigh to escape her tight lipped mouth, the click clack of the keyboard stopping very briefly as their eyes met. The boss man averted his gaze rather quickly, resuming his important work. Her thoughts traveled elsewhere as her gaze remained on the man who hired her. He was everything she hated: a bad shot. Their first meeting was him getting the shit kicked out of him by Dahl forces. To her, Jack was a pathetic little worm who had crawled his way thought the cracks of Hyperion to become its supervisor or whatever generic power title he held. Rich folks were something else since they hired for protection. Despite her uninterest in him, it was painfully obvious to her and the other vault hunters that he was interested in pursuing a more intimate relationship with her more so than just boss and employee but everything about Jack was laughable and his honeyed words weren’t appealing to someone like her.
Her attraction to Jack began naturally in the Meriff’s office in Concordia. There was nothing more attractive to her than violence, and Jack murdering the Meriff after his failed assassination attempt against Jack lit a fire in her belly. Jack had fired with such precision that his bullet hit the Meriff square between the eyes. The lifeless body fell to the ground with a thud that echoed through the office as blood pooled from entrance wound. “That’s beautiful” the lawbringer purred into Jack’s left ear as he shouted in frustration about the Meriff, something about letting him live if he hadn’t attempted to murder him. The look on Jack’s face in response to her praise was something wicked. He would attempt to earn her praise with each and every action he would take from then on.
Nisha had seen that wicked look of his several times since then and each time it made her heart beat a little faster. The look she loved the most was his seething glare. Those fucked up blue and green eyes would lock with her piercing yellow ones no matter how poorly lit their surroundings were. They were drawn to each other instantly like rathyds to fresh corpses. She was fond of the memory in which she first received that look from Jack. He had followed her exit from Moxxi’s Up and Over bar where inside the vault hunters celebrated the beginnings of their accomplishments on Elpis, on Jack’s expense of course.
She had exited the bar after quickly becoming annoyed by the casual conversation between the vault hunters and Moxxi. That smug look on that clown sluts face as she leaned closer and closer to Jack every time she rounded the table to supply more booze to the vault hunters. On her way out through a back entrance near the dancefloor she kicked Claptrap extra hard in her frustration hopefully leaving a dent in his outer panel. Nisha was very aware that Jack had a relationship with Moxxi since it was due to Moxxi’s help that they were able to track and shut down the jamming signal on Elpis. Was this jealousy? She needed to get from them…from everything…from herself. Maybe a trip to Crazy Earls would stabilize her since she couldn’t exactly shoot anyone point blank in the face while in town. These were civilized folks after all.
“Nisha! Wait up…” the sound of Jack’s voice reminded her of a puppy she had kicked in the face, whining and yelling as it scrambled to get out of her way, tripping over its own two front paws.
“Huh?” she questioned lazily, still proceeding to Crazy Earl’s but at a reduced pace so that the boss man could catch up to her before she reached the establishment. Jack had legs for days, as she recalled some of the citizens whispering about in hushed tones when he first fast traveled to this shithole of a town, so it took merely seconds for him to catch up with her. There was a firm grip on her arm and suddenly she was being spun around. He had pushed her backwards and her back made contact with the security gate of the closed Dahl vendor. There was such a fire in his eyes and she was immediately drawn in.
Their lips met in a feverish but clumsy act, his body pressing hard against her in an effort to keep her pinned beneath him knocking her into the security gate repeatedly. This was a laughable attempt at whatever it was and so she did laugh, manically, as she sunk her claws into his hair, gripped, and yanked his face away from hers by his hair. Oh, it had to hurt, but it hurt good, at least when she was on the receiving end. Jack on the other hand was taken aback, almost dazed and confused. He didn’t know what she wanted; she wanted to see him in agony, covered in his own blood, crying, and with fear in those beautiful eyes of his.
She got real close, pressing her lips to his well-defined Adam’s apple as she spoke.
“’re nothing to me – nothing but the mud on my boot if ‘re lucky but ‘re not” She hissed at him, lips trailing from his Adam’s apple to the crook of his neck. Her sharp teeth biting into his neck seemed to have caught him by surprise, instinctively trying to pull away from her but she wouldn’t let him move an inch as her grip on his shit and jacket tightened in her hands. It was that metallic taste of blood that sent shivers down her spine.
Back in the reality that was Jack’s office, the other vault hunters had settled down from their bickering to clean their weapons or reload them or whatever their maintenance requirement was. Nisha was a simpler gal, a Jackob’s Iron in one hand and a bullwhip in the other. She didn’t need to rely on any fancy technology like the rest of them. She pushed herself off of Jack’s desk with an enthusiastic hop, the soles of her boots tapping the floor echoed in between the silence of the eye’s laser. They really needed to shut down the eye but each of them were at their limits as it was and required a few hours of rest and relaxation, which seemingly frustrated the boss man further. Athena and Wilhelm occupied the chairs in the office’s lounge surrounded by hundreds of books and a fireplace. It would have been cozy if the office didn’t feature vaulted ceilings, two large fountains and probably wasn’t made all out of metal.
She felt the eyes on her back as she walked towards the floor to ceiling window that had the most prominent display of Elpis that anyone could pay for. As her hand made contact with the glass, the eye struck again in its effort to destroy the geostationary moon. While the others were participating in a valiant effort to save Elpis, Nisha was more interested in killing people. The neon purple glow was intoxicating and if it just happened to shatter Elpis before they could shut it down, so be it. Sure, there were some good folks, like Janey, but it was mostly populated by bandits – and she hated bandits. Although, she would be out of a job then and also be penniless. Not great.
She focused on the memory of Jack giving her that look she loved, that seething one filled with anger - the one that twisted her stomach into knots and drenched her cotton panties in excitement.
“Ya’ wanna dance with me, huh?” That maniac laughter filled the air between them. Nisha had danced with many partners, those who met her standards at least. Jack was nothing like her regular partners, since they were usually dying a slow and painful death. There was one particular partner that came to mind on Pandora that challenged her and had even crippled her into submission. He was a real badass, literally. He had snapped the bone in her leg like it was a twig, towering over her with threats of how he was going to kill her. While she wasn’t one to plead, she asked for a sole request: to fuck her. Bandits thought with their dicks, as did most men. He dragged her through that shithole town by her hair to where he had staked his claim in a shabby wooden shack reinforced with sheet metal. While many would kick and scream and make an effort to escape, she began to hatch a plan in order to become victorious. Sure, she may not have come out victorious if her plan went wrong but that was the thrill of the game of life after all.
Nisha tugged at Jack’s shirt, bringing him down to her level. “I strangled the last partner who thought he could dance with me,” she cooed in his ear, omitting the part where he broke her leg, dragged her back to some shack and proceeded to strip her down. While it was her idea, the badass entertained her by whipping her with her own bullwhip. First it lashed against her back and then her legs. She drew pleasure from the pain, but it was even better when it cracked against her plump behind. As foreplay proceeded, he rolled her over onto her back and whipped her a few more times before shoving his dick in her mouth.
Eventually he attempted to fuck her but bandits were stupid folks. He left her bullwhip in arms reach and it took mere seconds to crack the whip so tightly around his neck. Nothing says personal than strangulation. She dressed as quick as she could with her broken leg and did what anyone would do, retrieve her pistol and shoot that fucker right between the eyes. She limped her way back to the outrunner parked outside of the shithole bandit town and drove away.
“I don’t think ya’ can dance with me, partner” She smiled, planting a hard-enough kiss to his cheek that it left an imprint of her lipstick. She pushed him away from her with such ferocity that he fell backward onto the streets of Concordia. This was probably grounds for that seething look of hatred alone, but since it hadn’t appeared on that handsome face of his – she knew one thing that would sour anyone in an instant.
Without a second thought, she spat on his face. And there it was, that look that made her weak. Nisha returned to Moxxi’s with a grin on her face as soon as she turned her back to the boss man, no longer interested in sorting through Crazy Earl’s inventory to ease her troubled mind. Her entrance was celebrated by her follow vault hunters, who had seemingly one to many making them boisterous with laughter. But Jack’s entrance, she’d never forget that seething look of hatred as her eyes followed his from the entrance to the time he sat down at the same table her and her fellow vault hunters. It appeared he had quickly attempted to clean himself up, but in reality, all he had been able to do was smear the imprint of lipstick she had left on his cheek.
Maybe he wouldn’t be so bad.
Nisha hummed in appreciation as she returned to the present and returned to her position perched on Jack’s desk. He was visibly agitated, probably from a variety of reasons and hopefully her presence was one of them. Yet he continued to focus on his work as the click clack of the keyboard remained constant. The lawbringer grew bored, since she wasn’t getting shot at or was shooting someone and the other’s needed rest but she was alert, awake, and raring to go. So with a grin on her face she whispered as she leaned in real close to the boss man:
"Got only one question: Who do we hurt next?"
