I’m the tiniest bit biased cuz I saw him live twice but whateves. I really like his voice, it’s so soft. Also his arm warmers make him look like a bear to me.

3. Ivan Ozhogin

Listening to him sing “Old Deuteronomy” changed me as a person. I will never be the same. (In a good way tho.) Also peak costume design his makeup is awesome.

4. Bryan Batt

I’m being 100% biased here the only reason I like him is because he’s also from Louisiana.

5. Steve Barton

Again PEAK character design omfg I love Vienna Munkustrap. Even though I barely understand German I love listening to him sing.

6. Paul Hadobas

Zurich Munkustrap. He’s so goddamn sassy omg. (I mean, so is every Munkustrap but he’s just a whole different level.) Also listening to him sing “Old Deuteronomy” was a treat. Especially since it was a different version of a song.

7. Jack Rebaldi

Multilingual king I wanna be just like him. Also I like when he sticks his tongue out, idk I think it’s hilarious.

Jack Rebaldi is just… the quintessential Munkustrap imo. Every time i see footage of him, it’s just him being the perfect Munk, and I love him so so much.

And while I can’t find footage of Akihiro Hanebuchi’s Mistoffelees, the images I’ve found of him are just the most regal Mistoffelees!

So i love love love the idea of a Munkoffelees pair who are so regal and proper, but they have such a soft spot for each other. I think they’d be the perfect Munkoffelees within the context of the Jellicles being almost like a kingdom- with the Jellicle Leader and their family being royalty in a way.

Just curious, would you happen to know which performer has been in the most different productions of Cats? (Especially if we count Oasis as several different productions)

Not off the top of my head. Wouldn’t put it past someone like Mark John Richardson, Jack Rebaldi, or Guy-Paul de St Germain though.

In the now-archived Official CATS website, Munkustrap is explicitly stated to be Tugger’s older brother.

Additionally, multiple actors have said it explicitly, (ie Broadway Revival/US Tour 6; Tyler Hanes, Zach Bravo and Hank Santos have said they are the little brother to Munk. Alexander Auler from Vienna also posted a number of “Deut Bro” posts.)

Jack Rebaldi (London 90’s Munk)

(Additionally, multiple casting calls (Us Tour 5, RCCL Oasis, Paris 2015, Us Tour 6) Explicitly state Munk is the son of Old Deuteronomy. There is admittedly no mention of Tugger ALSO being his son, but again, the general play canon is to make them at least half-brothers.)

Now obviously, a now archived website, casting calls, and actor play canons are not hand of god, nor something that needs to be taken as gospel. I certainly ignore my share of actor’s opinions. And if anyone chooses to not see them as brothers that is absolutely their right. (I REALLY mean that last part, I don’t care how widely accepted a headcanon is, or even if something IS canon, it is NEVER an excuse to harass or police other people’s headcanons. This is a hobby for fun.)

But you asked for Any canon evidence XD. And I do think it speaks volumes that pretty much no other familial connection is canonized in such a way through casting calls or official website listings. Most of the time, casting calls are stripped down and no nonsense, so them mentioning ANY familial relationship is odd. (Additionally, the wikia mods tend to be very strict about allowing anything “interpretive” about the character’s relationships in the bios, preferring to keep that to trivia or the “headcanons” page. So for a play canon to make it onto a character’s wikia, it has to be pretty established.)

So basically- it appeared on a website once and everyone was like “Oh my god SOMETHING OFFICIAL?!?” which is absolutely unheard of in CATS. Plus, many productions lean into it, and it is a very popular headcanon amongst fans.

Hello and good morning/afternoon/evening! I hope you're having a wonderful day. I consider myself kinda a new fan of Cats (I've slowly become obsessed with it since the beginning of the pandemic) and I've been enjoying the posts of the fandom here in Tumblr.

I really, really like Munkustrap and my first fav actor of him is Michael Gruber. But then I started to dwell in the Munk actors pit hole and I fell in love with Alexander Auler's & Jack Rebaldi's portrayals of him. It caught my eye with how tall they looked from the rest of the cast. I found out on the internet that Alex Auler is around 193 cm-ish..? but I cannot seem to find out about how tall Jack Rebaldi was when he played Munkustrap. I was wondering if maybe you know his height as Munks? I'm really curious after seeing so many gifs, pics, and vids of him towering over everybody lol

There's not much information available regarding Jack Rebaldi's official height measurements. The closest I can find is a fan account that met him that mentions he's "six foot" (182-ish cm). I would theorize then it's safe to say he's at least 182cm, though I cannot be more accurate than that, I'm afraid.

If you're looking for tall Munks that heights are confirmed, Ivan Ozhogin clocks in at 193 cm as well.

Need a tier list of Munks (I know there's one for Mistos)

So I was just thinking about a Tier List ranking for Mistos that I've seen out there, and now I'm wondering if someone did one for the various Munks (and they better have Gruber's Munk in S-tier at least). By the way, I was looking at the list of Munk actors on the Cats wiki, and I did NOT know that Geoffrey Garratt had played Munkustrap as well (back in 1992, apparently. Well now I need to see what HIS Munk was like now. Hand over the bootleg, please.

What other Munks would you put in a tier list and where would you rank them? Other Munks I can think of:

S Tier (absolute creme de la creme, my fave takes on the "Courageous, Imposing, Energetic" words): Michael Gruber (as hinted before), Steve Barton, Jack Rebaldi (I think you spell it like that? He's Madrid 2004 Munk), Alexander Auler

A Tier (not my absolute faves, but still got the character in a way I still love): Andy Huntington-Jones (2016 Revival), Robbie Fairchild (yes I'm including 2019 Munk, aka the man who launched a thousand Munkoff fics.), Paul Hadobas (Zurich 1991/2)

B Tier (I like them well enough, but don't capture Munk the way I prefer, for example maybe imposing but not very energetic, and so on): Darryl Robinson (1989 Vienna), Matthew Pike (the cover Munk in the Hamburg 1999 bootleg) (He's just too...mellow, for me. I need some energy here!)

I honestly can't think of any Munk that I'd rank below B tier (all Munks are good Munks to me, from what I've seen so far, I guess). What are others' thoughts?
