I had just been assaulted for being asexual when the discourse had started. I talked about being correctively raped for being Ace. It was so traumatizing to have people message me, saying that wasn't why I was assaulted. That I was 'Stealing' a lesbian term.

Trying to find positivity afterwards only to see the headless body of a young ace girl in the ace tags

I instantly block all the blogs with the dog whistles for discourse.

I am honestly so thankful to the blogs like Vaspider and Autism-serenity, their support meant so much. I wish they hadn't been harassed for that support.

I don't think younger/newer users fully grasp the shit show that ace discourse was around 2014-17

It was so hostile that, to this day, discussions that begin to derail just enough can make me physically nauseous, some specific mockery trigger crying sessions years later. We lost most accounts with any sort of ace positivity. There was no information, no support, and all this damage was done predominantly by other queer people.

All this to say that you, however you identify yourself, should be engaging with aphobic comments the same way you do any hate. We don't sugarcoat or try to be comprehensive with people who are blatantly racist, homophobic or terfs, so why give it a pass just because it's coming from a queer person? I see how this tolerance goes and it's done enough damage as it is.

i think more high schools teaching shakespeare plays should show the students modern film adaptations bc im at a performance of twelfth night rn and my working knowledge of she's the man is very helpful in terms of looking past the old language and keeping track of what's going on
