No you know what. I thought Joker 2 was good. And I’m tired of pretending that it wasn’t. Reasons under the cut bc of spoilers.
Because the thing is… Arthur was never the incel power fantasy that a lot of people made him out to be the first time around. He was never a true figure of “white male rage” because fundamentally he was a figure of an extraordinary level of social/classist and interpersonal abuse that led him to violence that liberated him from that (as is the case with MANY mentally ill and socially disenfranchised people in the world), but the violence was absolutely never the thing that defined him as a character, but that’s always the first thing that people miss when a character is reduced to black and white elements in the zeitgeist. But this movie definitively proved that all of the incel dude filmbros, as well as average detractors who reduced him to that “white male rage” narrative the first time around were not reflective of him as a character because in the end, even ARTHUR HIMSELF held himself accountable for his crimes, even fessing up to killing his mother in the eleventh hour. And his subsequent death after this revelation even further drives home the point that how he exists as a figure of nuance could never survive in the world that created him OR the world that allegedly “embraced” him. And I think that’s kind of beautiful from a meta-narrative standpoint and VERY faithful to how the first film operated.
#of course I still think the harley thing was a little half baked but hey. that’s todd for you#but at least this part of the whole thing was pretty genius and a huge fuck you to incels#anyways that’s my two cents. after all I got called a fucking clown today but jokes on them HONK HONK 🤡🤡🤡#joker 2#joker folie a deux#arthur fleck

This might be a half-baked theory, but I wonder how much of the "think of the children!!" ideals that are almost... aimed at women rely on the idea of women as Forever Children.
What I notice is that a lot of these ideas of corruption in youth are feminized in a way that evokes motherhood, but I also notice that many people blur the lines between women or anybody forced into or expected to be women and children so that they are as one.
#politics#feminism#the idea of women being essentially children with the bodies of adult is something that's age-old#but i notice it still as something that's... subtler sometimes#such as the 'think of the children!' for the ~case~ of trans people existing i sometimes notice that people...#...subtly start including women in that 'think of the children!!!!!!!' line and it makes me wonder...#...if people see women and children as functionally the same...#again maybe this is half-baked or i think too much about this but. hm. yknow.#alright i guess... back to doing my crochet project and playing video games instead of studying 👍

Tbh I’m not normally into threesome ships but…imagine being shared between Yan!Aventurine and Yan!Dr. Ratio who are already in a couple.
Despite all their banter and bickering, they’ve always been happy together, but the day they meet you…the two men meet each other’s eyes with a silent understanding. You’re the missing equation, the last card to complete the deck.
Good luck trying to get out in one piece.
#THIS IS A HALF BAKED IDEA#im still figuring out my ideas for a full fic#but I wanted to throw this out there bc I have a mild obsession with these two lately#yandere honkai star rail#yandere hsr#yandere aventurine#yandere dr ratio

i don't fandom post here but. currently obsessed with welcome to night vale again and can't stop thinking about episode 221 (glow cloud, explained). keep thinking about dr. janet lubelle "explaining away" things as acts of both a disruption of collective faith and a killing of creativity.
we (as the audience) have witnessed cosmic horror as the everyday in that town for a whole decade. we, just like the citizens of night vale, take it as normal, or as adaptive to be normal. and then lubelle comes in and disrupts it to the point of death. she rendered a god useless. she killed a sentient river rock. even when cecil tries to chant all hail, all hail the glow cloud, the magic is gone. the faith is gone. it's been explained, unravelled, revealed to whatever kind of truth "science" has applied to it.
also, it serves as an allegory for how, when you try to explain your work to an audience, it kind of kills it? especially any writing that is absurdist or surrealist. explaining why the glow cloud even exists, or trying to pick it apart, renders it and the magic of night vale (both story and podcast) useless. the glow cloud is fun because it is a glow cloud that drops dead animals! we found out it was a god too! it has a child! isn't that whimsical and horrifying and brilliant? does it need explaining? no! and it's heartbreaking when it is! it's such a staple of the series and it's smart of joseph/jeffrey to play around with this after 10 years of creating and writing for this beloved show.
(also, if you decide to engage with this post, please do not share spoilers for future episodes, i am still playing catch up).
#welcome to night vale#i'm inviting people to engage if they feel like it. these are like half-baked and i'm still playing catch up but i'm having fun!

Okay, so I know the concept of the afterlife is completely up in the air regarding Mario logic, but disregarding Super Paper Mario as an AU and basing my theories off of the Luigi's Mansion games, this is my rambling take on how ghost stuff works:
New ghost
Once someone is deceased, their soul will look much like they did in life, retaining all their memories and personality traits. This state will last anywhere from a month to a few years, after which the "consciousness" aspect of their soul will quickly begin to dissolve.
Appearances differ from spirit to spirit, but in every case all coherent memories of their life will fade with time, though certain instinctual behaviors or attachments may remain.
Specters
This is most common ghost. Specters are souls whose original appearance and memories have long left them, leaving them but a colorful husk of who they once were. Their instinctual method of self-preservation in life will determine what form and power they will attain in death:
Appeasement (greenies, goobs)
Aggression (slammers, hammers)
Avoidance (hiders, oozers, trappers)
Artifice (sneakers, slinkers, creepers)
Animosity (boos, gobbers)
Guardians
Guardians are ghosts imbued with feelings of devotion strong enough to transcend the effects of death, be it to a person, a place, or even a beloved hobby. They are more powerful than specters, and while guardians have lost most of the physical traits they had in life, vague details that loosely echo their old selves will sometimes carry over in ways that are absent in less powerful ghosts.
Phantoms
Phantoms are the rarest and most powerful type of ghost, as they have a guardian ghost's sense of purpose combined with an equally strong sense of identity. As a result, though their memories are gone, phantoms will appear and behave much like they did in life. They are also the only ghost-forms aside from boos who hoard money, as the concept of wealth and social hierarchy are still a part of their psyche.
#Luigi's Mansion#Mario Heacanons#uuuuh I'm just talking at this point#don't get me started on ghosts forming their own set of memories after death renders them a clean slate#or the effects and new powers different power crystals give different ghosts like in Luigi's Mansion 2#or how a boo would hypothetically become a king boo#I'm still workshopping this is all fairly half baked

Thoughts to ponder.
Tears of the Kingdom spoilers (and lots of rambles) under the cut
When I started the Chain as Cryptids au, I didn’t really think I’d be able to work Tears of the Kingdom in, seeing how much I had changed Wild’s story. He’s a spirit with no memory of the Hylian he once was. He’s a force to be reckoned with but can be easily spooked- much like a wild animal. He avoids Flora like the plague since she’s his connection to the life he used to have. The life that isn’t his anymore.
But then… I had an idea. Flora would be desperate to find her Link again after discovering that he’s still alive (or… not really alive. Not quite a Poe but not quite a Hylian either). Regardless, after the events of Breath of the Wild, she’d start a search party and scour every corner of Hyrule to find him.
She never would. When spirits don’t want to be seen, they aren’t. But… this whole time, I imagined that Korok Forest acted as a sort of home base for Wild. Wild cannot speak verbally but can communicate telepathically with other spirits and spiritual beings. The Koroks and Blupees would be like siblings to him, the Deku Tree being like a parental figure since he basically started life over when he died. (Two Links raised by the Great Deku Tree. He and Time can bond over that later).
ANYWAY. Wild used the Master Sword for about half of the events of Breath of the Wild. But when it would need to recharge, he’d place it back in the pedestal in Korok Forest where it could become stronger under the watchful gaze of the Great Deku Tree. Then he’d be off, never staying in one place for too long, wandering the sandy shores of Necluda or the lava banks of Eldin.
This pattern would stay in place for years after the defeat of Calamity Ganon: Wild stopping at Korok Forest to reunite with his family and let the Master Sword heal and then disappearing into the wilds once more. And over the years, Flora’s search party would shrink until it was just her scouring the continent for her missing knight. Okay, yeah, maybe she’s a little desperate, but she can’t bear the thought of him alone out there. Not when he died because of her. Not when he’s all she has left.
And… when the Master Sword is recharging, that’s when Flora would finally take her search to Korok Forest. She finds the sacred blade but her knight is nowhere to be seen. The Deku Tree allows her to take it, urging her onward, warning her that eventually, she’ll have to use it. She heeds his wisdom, pulling the sword from her resting place and securing it on her back. Then she begins her search anew.
She doesn’t find him.
She trains with the Master Sword while she travels Hyrule. She starts to rebuild. She gets to know her people. And from the cover of countless trees and stone, a certain spirit watches her and his sword.
During her travels, Flora encounters a strange red-black mist that makes her people ill. They call it ‘gloom.’ And, what’s worse, it seems to pour out from under Hyrule Castle. The castle has laid untouched for years now, ever since the Calamity was sealed away and she set out on her search. But now, it would seem that she’s needed once more at the site of her greatest battle. The subject of her nightmares. The place where she los the last piece of her home.
Without her knight at her side, she makes her way to the forgotten foundation of her old life. She’s alone when she travels through the caverns, alone when she follows the melancholy most past murals and carvings that she itches to explore. Flora is alone when the Master Sword glows in warning. Alone when she battles monsters waiting for her in the depths.
The princess is all alone when she discovers a mysterious mummy being held in place by a single glowing arm. She watches as the appendage falls away, a stone falling to the rocky ground with an unassuming click. As she reaches to pick it up, the corpse reanimates. It stands tall, more alert and aware than any Gibdo she’s seen on her journey, and fixes her with a stare that she’d crumble under. She drops her torch and draws the Master Sword, holding the unfamiliar yet warm stone to her chest, and the mummy laughs at her.
It knows her name.
And it attacks.
Flora is alone when the gloom ravages her arm. She’s alone when the Master Sword is the first to crumble under that pressure. She’s alone when the very ground beneath her gives in to that same pressure.
She’s alone when she falls, pain lacing through her arm and golden light enveloping her.
But Flora is not alone when she wakes.
For the purposes of this au, Flora’s time in the past is going to be very similar to canon. She still meets Rauru and Sonia. Still meets Mineru and the Sages and Ganondorf. She still trains to control her secret stone. However, Rauru fixes her arm almost as soon as she arrives in this strange world. He doesn’t give her his, not like he does for Link in TOTK, since he needs it to seal Ganondorf away. But he and Mineru work together to combine construct parts and their own light and spirit magic to make her new muscles and machinery to aid in moving her own ruined arm.
The Imprisoning War is the same.
Sonia dies. Rauru sacrifices himself. And she still has no idea how to get home. How to heal the Master Sword and destroy Ganondorf in her own time. She still speaks with Mineru… and she comes to the same conclusion that she did in canon. This time, though, she’s taking much more of a risk. She can survive the centuries as a dragon, she can heal the sword. But she can’t be sure that her Link will be there to take it and finish things. She hasn’t even seen him in years.
… she doesn’t have a choice.
From Wild’s perspective, it happened in moments. He blinked and suddenly there were islands floating in his skies. Hyrule Castle floats ominously, red plumes of gloom branching out from underneath. Massive sinkholes give way to more of the poison, seeming to drop forever. His forests are ravaged once again, the climate in corners of the continent changing drastically.
And the princess he’d been following is gone.
While trying to get a grasp of what changed so suddenly, he figures out a way up to the Sky Islands. And to his surprise, he discovers a new dragon.
Now, Wild is familiar with all of the dragons in Hyrule. Farosh, Naydra, and Dinraal are just on the threshold of Spirit and Mortal, but they definitely qualify as spiritual beings. Meaning that Wild can speak telepathically to them. Their thoughts are always muddy and jumbled up, so he never gets much out of conversing with them. But he can tell that they enjoy his presence. So he rides with them in the skies of Hyrule for hours at a time.
This new dragon is smaller than the three he knows and flies much higher. Its ears are shorter, hair golden, eyes stunning. Instead of six legs, this one only has five. A scarred stump at its front and a glowing object on- no in- its poor head. Wild makes his way over as fast as he can, desperate to learn more about the beast.
The new dragon’s thoughts are just as jumbled up as he’s used to but he’s caught off guard by how miserable it feels. No. She. How miserable she feels. Wild places a glowing hand on her snout and tries to calm her, but it’s no use. Her thoughts may be chaotic and disorganized, but he senses her distress. She wants- sword. Knight. Link Link Link. You must find me, you have to save them all!
Wild takes the Master Sword from where it was buried in the dragon’s golden mane and is nearly thrown off by her shock at the action. But when his sword is once again in his capable hands, he feels an overwhelming gratitude from the dragon. It’s gone as soon as it came, replaced again by misery. Dread. Grief.
During the events of Breath of the Wild, Wild did not fight to save Zelda. He did not fight to save Hyrule. He fought for the land. For his fellow spirits that were being destroyed by malice. For the forests that were burned down by guardians. For the water that was poisoned by monsters. He defeated Calamity Ganon for his family.
He fights Ganondorf for the same reason. Except… maybe this time, he’s extra motivated by that strange new dragon. She seemed… so sad…
THIS IS GETTING WAY TOO LONG. But suffice to say that after the events of Tears of the Kingdom, Flora does not 100% recover from being a dragon. She keeps her telepathic connection to Wild and her immortality. She keeps her horns and scales and SHE gets the Master Sword. She’s a Cryptid as well, and she’s closer to Wild than she ever was.
. . .
Uhhhhh that was super long I apologize. But rambling like this is so much easier than trying to be coherent and careful when I write. I might to it more often if you think it’s legible haha. Feel free to ask questions haha, I love any excuse to talk about my Cryptid boys and their relationships with people in their worlds.

oh god when karen white confronts alec at the trader’s hotel saying “i won’t let you do that to another family” and he just. stares. he was going off at her a moment before, but now he just stares. then the scene cuts. oh my GODDDDD YOU CAN SEE THE WAY IT’S EATING AT HIMMMMM
like yes alec already has a habit of just blankly not responding. he’ll follow through with a conversation and then just hop off halfway through (*cough* autism *cough*). but this time, his silence is different. it isn’t him not knowing how to respond, it’s him ACTIVELY FIGHTING TO HOLD HIS TONGUE
he made a decision to take the blame for tess and daisy’s sake, and now he just has to sit there and take it, to cope with his own decision. you can see him gritting his teeth, coming to terms with that in that moment, and it’s ONLY something you can notice in hindsight once you know about sandbrooke
#the only time alec has to fight to HOLD his tongue instead of fight to get the words out#is when he’s faced with his crushing sense of moral obligation#he cares about those families so much#and not disappointing them#even though sandbrooke wasnt technically his fault he still feels guilty#he discharges himself from the hospital saying he cant let down the family#so when someone accuses him of not caring he was probably about to fucking explode#and YET#he also had an obligation towards HIS family#so he holds his tongue#even though his family get the impression that he cares about the cases more than them#here he makes it clear#if he had to choose#what he would choose#im crazy im crazy im crazy#these are very half baked thoughts im sorry#im just rambling#broadchurch#alec hardy#david tennant#autistic alec hardy

"Princess"
Red Robin has been hanging around Hood like a persistent gnat he can’t swat lately. And sure, they’ve come to an understanding and collaborate frequently on cases. But this isn’t a predetermined meet-up to exchange intel or brainstorm an infiltration. This is Tim dropping in unannounced on a stakeout, or taking out a goon in a brawl that totally wasn’t about to get the drop on him, Hood had it all handled, really. And then the replacement doesn’t leave. Looking over his shoulder while Jason rifles through cargo holds, or ‘tsking’ from some high perch while watching him make a field repair on his gear, all with some vague air of expectancy like he was waiting for Jason to do something.
But he never gives any indication what it is he’s expecting from Jason, or whether or not Jason actually delivered. No rhyme or reason for when he decides he’s done being a nuisance, from what Jason can tell, though he’s sure it's all very precisely timed in Tim's head.
The thing is, though, that Jason would maybe like to give Tim whatever it is he seems to want. He knows part of it is just how Tim is; the guy would probably have neglected to mention he runs a fortune-500 company if it hadn’t made national news. But he also knows that if you don’t ask for something, nobody can deny you it. He and Tim tend to run their mental gymnastics on a similar course. Probably part of why they get along so well.
It’s the very same reason why, instead of asking for clear communication, what comes out of his mouth instead is, “You can pout all you like, princess, but that don’t make me any more of a mind reader. The sooner you tell me what you’re after, the sooner I can tell you to fuck off.”
Red Robin pouts even harder and straightens up, and Jason panics for a second that he actually is about to fuck off. A baseless worry though, when there’s still shit for Tim to poke his nose in. His frown only turns into a satisfied smirk as he points out the false wall in the office he’s decided they’re now investigating together.
~~~
Jason’s pretty sure he solves the mystery of what Tim’s after about two weeks later.
Tim has turned Jason’s couch into a battle station; laptops, photos and files strewn around him. The coffee table is marginally less cluttered thanks to Jason only just having cleared the empty mugs and energy drink cans away. They’d returned from an extremely fruitful bust on a trafficking den that was the product of days worth of prep, and Tim is already picking up where they left off, pulling on the threads that will lead them to the next step up in the operation, not even fully out of his body armor and buzzing off the adrenaline of their success. Jason had barely gotten Tim’s jammed fingers in a splint before a laptop was being booted up and documents updated, dots connected.
Normally Jason is more than happy to let Tim’s ridiculous brain run ten steps ahead and in five different directions at once; had once watched him solve a different case from the one he was actually working on accidentally. But Tim’s been burning the candle from both ends even more dramatically this week, prepping with him for this bust in the evenings, and dealing with bullshit meetings at his day job (Jason resents being aware of corporate finance calendars). Jason hears the beginning of frustrated grunts and pronounced keyboard clacking as Tim’s fingers start to stumble over one another and he has to delete more words than actually make it into the report he’s writing.
“Alright, I’m calling it. If you crash here for the night you can get right back to it when you wake up,” Jason offers, like there’s actually any room for debate, sweeping up papers from the couch. And Tim must be even more exhausted than he realized, because he only gets half-hearted grumbling in response.
“You better save whatever you’re working on by the time I come back with blankets or I’m closing that laptop right on your fingers.”
And miracle of miracles, the laptop is already closed and atop the slightly precarious pile on the coffee table when he returns to the living room, Tim horizontal and watching him with pale eyes as piercing as ever, even behind heavy eyelids he can barely keep open.
Jason can’t do anything but drape the sheets over him, make sure he’s fully covered. Can’t help the words out of his mouth, not nearly as teasing as he meant them to be,
“Sweet dreams, princess.”
And in response he gets the warmest, sleepiest smile he thinks he’s ever gotten from Tim, nuzzling happily into the blanket before he’s fully asleep in seconds flat, leaving Jason to stare and will his heart to not beat out of his chest.
Every time I have a random day off, all I can think about is how much happier and more put together I'd be if we had four-day work weeks.
And not "sure, you can have a four-day week, but you still need to put in 40 hours in a week."
Just. Four days. Get your work done. Sign off when it's done, don't feel obligated to fill the rest of your day just to say that you did.
Imagine.
#emynn.op#personal#I'm lucky my work does half day Fridays BUT it DOES come with the assumption you're still doing about 40 hours#and when I first started there it was a godsend#and it IS still nice#makes it easier to book appointments or leave early for long weekends etc#but in general.....idk 'shut down at 12' quickly becomes 'just let me finish this one thing after lunch'#and then I have therapy Friday afternoons now so usually I'm still not mentally done until 5#but idk#Saturday was a rot day mixed with some holiday baking#Sunday I did a lot of chores but wasn't stressing#today I did more chores and holiday prep#and my house looks SO MUCH BETTER than it has in ages????#I've crossed things off my to do list that have been languishing there for weeks???#just imagine if I had this extra day every week#the pile up of 'oh I'll do this when I have more time/energy' would be so much less#anyway#ANYWAY. capitalism#kill it
