For context I'm in high school and I live with my parents and four out of six of my siblings.

I don't have very many things that belong only to me. Even most of the books in my bookshelf belong to "the family", so when I have something that is definitively mine, I treasure it and find it very precious.

I used to have a small collection of mugs, four in total, that were very special to me, as they had been given to me by people I love on special occasions. Two of these were from a store that no longer exists in my city and the other two aren't sold anymore in their stores, so it would be very difficult to find replacements for them.

I took very good care of these mugs, always being sure to remember where I had put them down and be aware of them when I was holding them. (This is very difficult for me, as I'm quite clumsy and not very good with spacial awareness) I never once dropped them, and I had most of them for a rather long time.

But over the course of this year, each and every one of them was broken. All of them in accidents that could have been avoided. All of them by other people and their carelessness. Today, my favourite of the mugs, the last surviving one, was broken. Or at least I found out about it today. I only used this mug about once a week as it was my special hot chocolate mug, only used for hot chocolates, and today when I made a hot chocolate in it I found a crack running all down it's face (it was a hedgehog) and another right next to the handle.

I was, understandably, very upset about this, and I told my older sibling and my mother. I had already been having a rather bad day, and this stacked on top of it to make the day terrible.

My mother then got mad at me for being so upset. It was, after all, just a mug. It wasn't going to last forever anyway. I don't know why she got so mad at me, I was just trying to express the fact that I was upset, which I have a right to do.

I don't even really know why I'm making this post, I just want some sympathy, I guess. Was I right to be upset? Was I just making nothing into a big deal? I don't know how I'm supposed to feel if I can't be upset.

local asian market reorganized its shelves. consequently when i went looking for my ve wong vegetarian flavor instant noodles i unexpectedly found myself in the Good Quality Cookware And Beautiful Dishes aisle, aka the aisle of temptation, face to face with a mug (my favorite dish) with a lid (my favorite thing for a mug to have) and a heron pattern (my second-favorite bird) at a very reasonable price (i’m on a budget and i literally do not have room for another mug on my mug shelf). it was like one of those fucked up tests they give monks in shaolin movies to see if they’ve really given up earthly desires. that mug is going to haunt the broken man that i am for a long time
