A Quick Reminder
City of Asphodels welcomes everyone who holds proship ideals! But recently, we have been seeing many, many people misunderstanding profic/proship and what they mean.
Proship is being "for shipping" and "for fiction" by extension. ALL fiction.
Respecting that others have tastes in fiction different from ours,
Respecting that they may not enjoy things we enjoy and vice versa,
Respecting that people enjoy all kinds of fiction for all kinds of reasons and that says nothing about them as a person,
These are all part of what being "for fiction" means.
Demeaning someone or believing they are any "less" proship than you for having squicks or triggers in media is not proship.
Going on a someone's blog willingly to make fun of ships or medias they like for any reason is not proship.
Believing you can only like problematic fiction for the "right" reasons (e.g coping) and looking down on others who don't is not proship.
Hating others for their love of fiction is not "for fiction."
Hating others for their love of fiction will never be proship.
Nobody who judges, ridicules and harasses others is "proship" regardless of whether they enjoy dark or taboo fiction!
Keep enjoying what makes you happy, that's the best thing you can ever do 💜

extra option for your poll, i dont have c!scar in a wheelchair as a deliberate seperation from cc!scar
Deliberate separation makes sense to me, but not when it's an integral part of someone's identity
Like cc!Scar doesn't really care, but I'm disabled and I care. If someone were to take away my cane in fanart I'd be like "hey why are you doing that? Is my disabled self not good enough for your story" yknow?
I just think there needs to be some consideration of why Scar can be made abled and that's fine, but if you made BDubs white or Smajor straight or Cleo cis there'd be issues
#is this discourse#sorry if it is#im just disabled and have feelings#not hate to anon i mean this all very kindly#we're just having a mature discussion#no ones in the wrong or in trouble#mcyt#hermitcraft#gtws#marimo rambles

I just wanted to say to that Anon: nobody was being sassy with you. I hate how much Marius and Armand fans are denigrated on this site.
I'm sorry, anon! I know how that feels and I want you to know that I did not intend to denigrate or invalidate Marius/Armand fans. I apologize if I did.
I am on your side! I think they're fascinating and while they're not one of my main ships, I always enjoy reading the fics people write about them and trying to figure out how they fit together in various eras. I want them to work out their shit and have all of the kisses and cuddles they deserve.
About ten years ago, the last time I was in this fandom before I left for a while, Armand and Daniel were Le Problematic Ship Du Jour on this site, where there was constant discourse and shitposting about how toxic and awful they were and how if you shipped it, you were terrible and also wrong, because look at Daniel with Marius in Prince Lestat! They are together so Armand and Daniel can't possibly ever have anything again 🙄🙄🙄 It felt like you had to constantly defend yourself if you posted or wrote about them, and it was exhausting.
Now I see that same shit going on with Marius and Marius/Armand. It's fine to not like a character or a ship, but people get Weird about it, and decide that their dislike is Moral and Righteous. Or that canon or Anne has blessed their ship somehow, which is equally silly. Back then people would harass Anne on Facebook trying to get her to say which ships were canon or whatever, as if they are not very clearly all canon on the page.
I will never believe that Daniel and Armand reconnecting means Armand and Marius can't do the same (or that Daniel and Marius aren't going to still have a deep relationship, for that matter.) Ditto Armand and Louis, etc. etc. down the line.
Ships are not a zero sum game, especially in this fandom. You don't have to like a ship. Sometimes they just don't give you that warm fuzzy feeling. But none of these ships are mutually exclusive either. Armand can lay on the couch playing with Lestat's hair and still appreciate Daniel as he walks out the door. There's enough love to go around.
Okay, sorry, wow, I don't know why anyone sends me asks when they all lead to tangents. 😂 Point is, I feel your pain, anon, and I wasn't trying to join in on that kind of nonsense, so I hope it didn't seem that way and I don't think you were be sassy with me, either. I understand your frustration! I'm sorry fandom tends to do this stuff!

At some point "fanfic can be as good as professional writing" became "fanfic should be as good as professional writing" and that's caused major damage to fandom spaces.

There are two basic arguments for shutting the fuck up about cishets at Pride.
First: What if a trans kid asks their parents to show their support by attending Pride with them? What if a lesbian can only attend pride if she gets a ride from someone and the only person willing and able to drive her is her straight brother? What if a bi disabled person can't attend a large outdoor event without hands-on assistance from their straight partner? What if someone just wants to bring their fucking friends? What if, contrary to popular tumblr discourse, most queers don't inhabit perfectly pure social bubbles populated only by other queers? What if it's none of your business?
Second and perhaps more important: If you think you can tell that someone is CIS, let alone HET, by LOOKING at them, you are a cop and an idiot.

that article going around abt firefox's new ad program is annoying bc it's phrased as though "mozilla has finally TURNED on its people and is SELLING YOU OUT for cold hard cash!!" when. that's not what's happening. it is specifically being implemented to discourage tracking behavior, and literally all the data they are giving to advertisers is aggregate and anonymized, which is like, the opposite of what that post wants you to worry about, lol
#the nemesis speaks#unfortunately i don't have enough energy to like. campaign about this.#it's actually a really interesting tactic to discourage invasive tracking#basically giving individual advertisers a way to measure '% effectiveness of ad' without individual info getting attached to it#whatever anyway i'm going to bed. do NOT discourse on this post or i will get your ass

I am actually begging some people to just let some spaces exist untouched by real-world issues and horrors.
Like I've lost count of the amount of times peaceful game or fandom servers have been ruined by people stampeding in with political rants, bitching about world issues, demanding internal activism, demanding vent channels so they can whine about their shitty parents, ect.
Like. Respectfully. Not every single space has to be inclusive of and welcoming of outside topics. The real world sucks. We don't needed to be reminded of that absolutely everywhere.

Suddenly struck with a need to explain to you how boat pronouns work (I work in the marine industry).
When you're talking about the design of the boat, you say "it".
When the boat is still being built, your say "it".
When the boat is nearing completion, you can say "it" or "she".
When the boat is floating in the water you probably say "she", unless there is still a lot of work to be done (e.g. no engine yet) then you say "it".
When the boat is officially launched and operating, you say "she". If you continue to say "it" at this point you are not incorrect but suspiciously untraditional. You are not playing the game.
If you are referring to a boat you don't really know anything about you may say "it" ("there's a big boat, it's coming this way"). But if you know its name, it's probably "she" ("there's the Waverley, she's on her way to Greenock").
If you are talking about boats in general, you say "it" ("when a boat is hit by a wave it heels over")
If you speak about a boat in complimentary terms, it's "she" ("she's a grand boat"). If you are being disparaging it may be it, but not necessarily ("it's as ugly as sin", "she's a grotty old tub").
If she has a boy's name, she's still she. "Boy James", "King Edward", "Sir David Attenborough"? The pronoun is she.
If it's a dumb barge (no engine), you say it. But if it's a rowing boat (no engine), you say she.
I hope this has cleared things up so that you may not be in danger of misgendering floating objects.

Shipping fictional characters isn’t representative of your moral values. It’s representative of your particular psychic damage and the themes and motifs that haunt you. Hope this helps.

"we need more weird queers!!"
you start parroting TERF talking points the milisecond someone says they are a lesboy or gaygirl
you cry when mspec lesbians/gays exist
you refuse to use neopronouns or it/its, even when those are a persons only set of pronouns
you expect a-specs to experience attraction in some way (yes, that includes platonic attraction)
you exclude intersex people
you can't even accept furries.

truly the wildest thing about all the Bridgerton discourse about "is Nicola Coughlan too FAT to be a convincing love interest???" is that in many ways she actually looks better in the period costumes than her thinner counterparts because she has the figure to really fill them out. those dresses are incredibly flattering on larger bodies because they emphasise the bust and cleavage whilst creating a very elegant silhouette. there's something unintentionally hilarious about hearing pearl-clutching in the distance over "idk is this FAT WOMAN sexy enough to be believable as an object of lust??" whilst Penelope Featherington's majestic heaving bosoms are almost spilling out of her dress in a category 5 titty event. if anything she's too sexy. they had to spend the first two seasons putting her in ugly dresses in a desperate attempt to conceal the fact that she's serving more cunt than the entire itty bitty titty committee combined
#bridgerton#don't get me wrong all bodies are beautiful etc etc it's just. absolute funniest discourse

I think you can tell a lot about how rigorous and committed someone's belief in a human right is by how quickly they are able to name people who they think could or should have that right taken away.
