No way we were robbed of Merlin with an Irish accent 😭????? Like Colin Morgan’s accent is so hot. They knew Merlin would have been way too powerful.

Differences in Irish English vs British English
-Prepositions:
Irish people use more prepositions. It’s anecdotal but my Dad always likes to reference the joke of a parent saying to their kid: “get out from behind that thing behind which you are currently stood”
-Tenses (To be or not to be after doing?)
Where a Brit has “just done something”, and Irishman will “after doing” it. For example, in his 1988 novel “The Commitments”, Roddy Doyle writes: “I'm after rememberin'. I forgot to bring mine back. It's under me bed.” That is to say that character just remembered in that moment.
-Yes/No
For the Portuguese reader this may seem natural; in Ireland they are less likely to use yes or no. Instead they opt for using the verb again. Think: “Would you like a cup of tea?” “I would”. This may stem from the Irish language’s lack of the words yes and no.
-Religious influences in everyday speech:
Irish has been known to be “the most Catholic country in the world” so its like surprise that such phrases have entered into everyday vernacular:
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, - This is used to expressed surprise
Jesus H. Christ - This is used in anger, surprise, frustration or for humour (I would if Jesus has different initials internationally!)
-Individual bits of vocab
Press = Cupboard
Hot press = Airing cupboard
Gas = Great
To give out = To tell off a child
Yer man/yer wan = Any man/ woman that you’re referring to
Grand = Good/fine
Acting the maggot = Messing around or acting up
On the lash = Out drinking
Give it a lash= Give it a go
Now we’re suckin’ diesel = Now this is a phrase to mean something has started to go right
Effin’ and blindin’ = Swearing
Eejit = An insult for an idiot
I’ve been feeling homesick so here’s a list of differences between Irish English and British English inspired by my Irish da. Anyways go watch The Banshees of Inisherin -a good Irish film (pronounced fillum)

A lovely three - I mean Tree - emote for RTGame! Really love how this one turned out!
For those out of the loop, with an Irish accent, "Tree" and "Three" sound the same, and has been a long running joke

A Good Book and a Sturdy Desk
O0themilkybarkid0o · A Good Book and a Sturdy Desk
His presence in the doorway after a time didn't surprise you, and you felt your pulse quicken at the cockiness of his stance, leaning against the frame with his arms folded. A part of you hoped he would come and find you. It had been a while since you had any time together, too caught up in the duties you both assumed years ago when he built the town with his bare hands. “Good book?” He asks, and there's something in the air between you; a tension you cannot place, and the heat in his eyes - you know what he is after. You feel strangely nervous. You unconsciously clench your thighs together, too embarrassed to acknowledge the rising feeling. “My favourite,” you say, airy, “but I'm finding it hard to read, today.”
@cheshireizxpikeveil made a request that spiraled vaguely out of control and led to 24 pages and a whole-ass audio-version!
Pls enjoy.
(please note EXPLICIT fanfic, with named plus-sized AFAB reader/Halsin, themes of self-loathing and body issues)
(also I have an Irish accent so don't be alarmed I guess)

One small fact for my BD/BadGuys au for the day
While Katherine doesn’t talk much, but when she does(by keeping her mouth off screen) she has a Irish accent, just like her dear old mother
The Diamonds here have their same voice actresses from the show
Yellow Diamond- Patti LuPone
Pink Diamond- Susan Egan
White Diamond- Christine Ebersole
Blue Diamond- Lisa Hannigan
And Lisa Hannigan gave Blue Diamond an Irish accent, so it would make sense that Katherine would also have one, despite how none of the spilts have an Irish accent too, well her accent isn’t as pronounced and strong as Blue’s.

Okay so. I need a little help. Is there anywhere to practice an Irish accent with actual Irish people? Like. I'm thinking of how people practice other languages with native speakers online sometimes. I'm trying to learn the accent for a fantasy world, so it's not a high pressure thing, but if I try and learn it through some stereotype ass lesson I will cringe and die of the disrespect. (I'm focusing on County Wicklow.)

Already knew my Irish accent wasn’t built for technology but snapchats new VN to words transcript thing is sending me:

For context I was telling my friend I had a migraine and couldn’t afford to take any more time off and unfortunately I had a Monday meeting.
The fact this is arguably the most coherent part is sending me:

Okay so today I started out normal. Then after maybe an half an hour or a full hour I got stuck in an Australian accent. Which isn’t too out of the ordinary, because I have adhd and sometimes just get stuck in accents for a bit
After like maybe thirty minutes or less the Australian accent turned into an Irish one
Then I was stuck in an Irish accent for several hours. Very unusual, as that doesn’t happen a lot
Then for maybe thirty minutes or so I got my usual accent back (which is a mix of a few accents since I’m a military brat, but mostly American)
Then I got stuck in an Irish accent again. And now it’s one forty one at night and I’m still Irish
Gonna see if I’m Irish in the mornin’ or if I’ve gone back to normal
#this is very unusual#does this happen a lot to anyone else with adhd?#or just a me thing?#I do have one very vague and probably wrong guess tho#that being that maybe it’s a side effect of my new medication?#I feel like that’s a bit of a stretch though#adhd#adhd problems#actually adhd#adhd things#adhd accents#accents#language accents#there are so little accent tags what do I do#how do I tag this#irish accent
