Ladies November 25th is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Be prepared for a lot of "What about male victims" or "What about trans women"
Me, years ago: idk it just seems like every time I’ve heard a man say he was being abused by a woman it turns out he was actually abusing her. Is it wrong to just assume that’s the case anytime I hear a man say that since I’ve literally never seen it be actually true?
Commenters: omg that’s so fucked up. Maybe educate yourself on domestic abuse from experts before you go saying things like this??
Experts on domestic abuse: When a man says he is being abused by a woman, you should assume he is abusing the woman in question and wants your help to keep her in line. Abusive men often use this technique in professional settings such as therapy, and it’s important not to buy into it for even a second.

21h · Gisèle Pelicot graces the cover of Vogue Germany, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Pelicot, whose husband drugged her and allowed different men to rape her over the course of 10 years, is holding a public trial and allowing her name to be published, even though she didn't have to. Her husband wished for a private trial, which would have allowed their names to remain anonymous, but she wanted to shame the men who have raped her and hold them responsible publicly for what they've done. She told the court that she hopes her testimony might help spare other women from similar ordeals. She said she pushed for the trial in open court in solidarity with other women who go unrecognized as victims of sexual crimes. Her strength is so unbelievable.

November 25th is the international day for the elimination of violence against women. One of the cases where certain kinds of violence (sometimes very extreme, even having been considered torture by UN standards) against women and people perceived as women is normalized is obstetric violence, so I wanted to share this short clip about how healthcare professionals can begin to address it by incorporating respect.
Clip from the documentary “Dona, vostè no té res!” by TV3 about obstetric violence.

There's (rightfully) a lot of noise about November 25th in my country (Italy) as it seems that no day goes by without a husband, boyfriend, father, ex, acquaintance killing a woman in their life. And yet I can't help but feel estranged when nobody talks of the violence women enact on other women (not only physical as it was my case) but often psychological. I can't help but feel that no progress will be made unless we acknowledge that women are able to be as violent as men, and that violence is to be contrasted and condemned regardless of the gender committing it.
Mind you, maybe my experience has me biased, but too often I've felt left behind by feminism as a movement, be it because I'm not feminine enough to fit standard or because my experience as an SA survivor is discounted since the perpetrator was another woman.
I just don't feel represented by what the feminist movement at large is trying to accomplish here and I fear that too many people are left in the dust as the movement isn't nearly intersectional enough.

💜 International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women 💜
Today, we stand together to demand a world where women and girls are safe from violence and abuse. This year's theme is "UNiTE! Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women & Girls". 💜
Did You Know?
-In Trinidad & Tobago, 1 in 3 women face violence from a partner in their lifetime.
-Reports of domestic violence skyrocketed during the pandemic, with 11,000+ cases in 2020.
-By 2023, women made up 75% of domestic violence reports, and abuse in all forms remains a pressing issue.
Across the Caribbean, women continue to experience some of the highest rates of intimate partner violence globally, jeopardising safety, dignity, and equality.
Let’s Take Action
💜 Speak out against violence.
💜 Support survivors.
💜 Advocate for stronger protections and awareness.
Together, we can help build a world where violence is no longer tolerated. 💜

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
On November 25, 1960, the Mirabal sisters of the Dominican Republic were assassinated by henchmen of dictator Rafael Trujillo. The sisters, who had been active in movements against the Trujillo regime, were beaten and strangled to death, then placed in a Jeep that was driven off a mountainous road in order to make their deaths appear accidental. In December 1999, the United Nations General Assembly designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The date marks the beginning of 16 days of remembrance and activism, culminating in International Human Rights Day.
According to a report by the United Nations, 19 percent of women between the ages of 15 and 49 years of age have experienced physical and/or sexual violence “by an intimate partner.” In some cases, this violence ends in the women’s death.

today at school my teacher said that she won't talk about violence against women on the 25th because it doesn't exist and men are r*ped by women too and violence is general. and it's women's fault because they're too in love to react.
my dear old lady, sexual violence against men and against women is different. violence against women is sadly very common because of the patriarchal system we're in, that teaches to young boys they are the OWNERS of female individuals in their lives, whether they are girlfriends, wives or mothers and sisters. and those young boys of course become men, and in their minds being possessive with female individuals is right.
sadly in Italy women victims of domestic violence or any kind of violence are not listened to properly, many times they are not believed, I experienced this directly.
in these days, still in Italy, we have witnessed yet another feminicide, against a young woman who had left her toxic boyfriend because of how possessive and jealous he was of her. I won't share anymore details because it would be off topic but it ended the same way at as the others, he killed her, left her body in a plastic bag in the middle of nowhere, and escaped in another state.
counting what had happened recently, I'd consider ESSENTIAL to talk about violence against women. at least spend some words on this.
parents do not have to teach daughters how protect themselves, parents MUST teach their sons that women are not men's property. you can't own people.
OF COURSE violence, unfortunately happens everyday, and is absolutely wrong against every individual, beyond sex, religion, race or anything else. but this kind of violence is different, and we do not have to ignore it and say "it's generic violence", because doing this you ignore the cultural background of it, and indirectly you make it happen more and more times.
STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN!
