honestly i think the reason that 'x group eats something we dont, that means theyre evil!' works on white ppl so well is cause they dont interact with nature/animals/where their food comes from like. at all.
so when someone tells them a group eats an animal they Have interacted with before they cant fathom the idea of that animal being food :/

don't really care to add to the commentary on that particular post, but the "vegans are against animal death" argument being counter-argued with deer overpopulation and invasive species needs to be so fucking serious. bestie nobody eating deer at a widespread scale, and of course vegans understand that animals die in nature. generally the animal death being protested is the cruel and inhumane meat industry. those industrial farm complexes? have you ever seen those? they're a moral affront to the animals cruelly raised and slaughtered there, to the humans working in atrocious and unsafe conditions, to the damages that the meat industry does to the environment.
I'm not a vegan, but I do think it's important and worthwhile to be aware of the provenance of what we eat, and to understand our complicity and place in this system. and yes, this also includes the agricultural industry in regards to fruits, vegetables, and grains, and the human and environmental costs those entail. being aware of this is especially important if we don't struggle with food security or scarcity.
vegans can be really annoying, and they're far from perfect. but at least they're asking the right question in: "what if what is being done to these living creatures kinda really fucking sucks?"

Pigs caught on video using tools for the first time
Scientists knew that swine were smart, but had never seen this skill displayed
Dolphins, chimpanzees, and crows all use tools to help accomplish tasks. Now, pigs have joined the club, National Geographic reports.
For the first time, researchers have caught a species of swine called the Visayan warty pig using pieces of bark as a shovel to move dirt around in their nests. Researchers filmed several of the pigs in captivity as they got their nests ready to welcome piglets in the spring, and observed the animals using tools 11 times over 2 years.
The team also sprinkled a few spatulas around the enclosure, in case the pigs might prefer a more easily held tool. For the most part, the swine stuck to natural tools such as bark or sticks, ignoring the spatulas, the team reports in Mammalian Biology.

god really was having a laugh while making guinea pigs, huh?
guinea pigs are very intelligent creatures with a surprisingly complex social structure, I know this for a fact, I have seen first hand just how smart guinea pigs are, but I look at their little faces and I immediately forget there is supposed to be a brain behind those eyes...

You can tell that the animal rights handwringing about halal slaughter is racist nonsense because they regularly spout full lies (just saw people claim that All animals are stunned prior to slaughter in commercial slaughterhouses and that's. just not true) to imply it's inherently more barbaric and cruel and prolongs death, but also because I've never seen a single one of these people object to the fact that there are no standards of humane slaughter for any shellfish at all. None. You are allowed to do whatever the fuck you want to a living lobster to make it dead. They could rip all the legs off and leave it to slowly die in the back kitchen of any restaurant and that's completely legal.
"But shellfish don't feel pain!" yeah that's why shellfish don't care if they're eaten and never avoid pain or damage to their bodies and you regularly see shellfish with only one leg left still living their lives just fine and fully functioning, because they don't feel pain, and therefore you cannot damage or hurt them :)
They don't have a nervous system like we do, but we have pretty ample evidence they find damaging touch unpleasant and will avoid it (such as no longer going into a cave or crevice wherein they were given an electric shock) and the only reason nobody cares they get regularly boiled alive is because lobsters aren't fluffy like cows
