On the night before the talks are supposed to take place Abaddon encounters a ritual that will drastically change the course of their life forever.

It was much too cold this late at night, but it had to be done. With a slow puff of breath, the elf raises up from their crouched position in the snow – ears twitching every few moments. A  Dalish mage might not be dragged away by Templars – seeing as the Circles were defunct for now – but they would certainly take offence to a slight amount of blood being spilled on a magic circle. The pulse in their hand comes quick and painful as they pull taut a rag around the laceration sliced through their palm. Had to be done, they repeat to themself, shaking out their fingers and glancing around their meagre camp. Just the previous day they had come upon their rations rifled through and their furs dragged halfway out of the previously secured tent flap. Shemlen will do anything when they suspect danger – ironic that if caught, Abaddon would be accused of exactly what they suspect the humans thought they were doing. Blood magic. Not that this was going to topple empires. It would stop nosy little brats from stealing from them however. 

Right as their fingers graze the leather edge of their tent, Abaddon’s ears perk up at the faint noise of a shout – somewhere far off in the darkness. Curiosity pricks at their thoughts and they begin to wonder if a fight has broken out finally between the conclave attendees when an arc of sickly green light practically explodes from a doorway. The doorway to the Temple of Sacred Ashes. There’s another muffled shout following the magical energy and several people begin to poke their heads from their tents, craning their necks towards the sound. For a long beat everything is silent, not even the softly falling snow can be heard, as if the entire world is holding its breath. Perhaps this is a collective nightmare, considering the high concentration of magic here. A dwarf close by shakes out his greying beard and looks over at the slight elf blearily, his small blue eyes bloodshot from lack of sleep. 

“What’s goin’ on?” 

“I don’t think anyone knows,” Abaddon responds softly, unable to pull their gaze from the emerald sheen colouring the dwarfs' shadow. Something deep within the magic sings to them. It reaches out infinitesimal claws and hooks into their flesh – they are unable to, or do not wish to, pull away. The crunch of snow is drowned out by the lullaby filling their mind and consuming their thoughts, as they alone walk towards the green light. It’s familiar yet a tune they can’t quite put their finger on. Whatever it is, it’s much too sweet and enticing to let go of. No one moves a muscle, helpless while they watch Abaddon make their way towards the Temple doorway and become bathed in that horrid light.

Hi all! It has been a while since I've been on the internet, but I have since graduated and pursuing a career in animation! I was gifted the I,Strahd book during the middle of the pandemic and had been itching to run a prequel campaign based on an adapted take of I, Strahd, exploring elements that made Barovia and ultimately, Strahd, the way it became.

Frank was a sergeant who served under the banner of House Dilisnya. Hindered by nothing but his own conscience, he chose to kneel to the Lord of Murder, Bhaal, so that he may strike the political enemies of his master without a pang to his sanity. Rising from the depths of enslavement, no one could have foreseen that a mere cripple would lead a savage onslaught against his masters. A gritty veteran, Cain's dreary origins gave birth to his singular conviction of dominance. This worldview born from despair molded his philosophy regarding the nature of power and the laws that govern all. Despite being fueled by darker ambitions, Cain is not without a heart of grace and kindness. The duality of the man who is both ruthless and compassionate is weighted in balance, reflecting symbolically his devotion to The Scales. Anatomically speaking, how do you do?

Once a mere human consumed by an insatiable obsession with necromancy, Violet delved deeper into the dark arts, fervently worshipping the god Bhaal in her pursuit of forbidden knowledge. Gradually descending into madness, she adopted the guise of a pathologist, masking her heinous crimes as acts of scientific inquiry. Her obsession with understanding the mechanics of life and death twisted her mind, transforming her into a ruthless psychopath.

Calandrius Vaerethin is many things: a long-lived elf, a one-time hellrider, or the occasional robber baron. By all accounts he has the physicality of a golden knight, his fair skin complemented with his bright golden hair, as if stolen from the sun, with the composure of someone who has practiced a thousand strikes in his lifetime; though Caland would tell you he is anything but. In truth, he is the last of a long-dead order of knights, who were purged in the days of Old Voron. Now unfettered, whether it be the tenets of the old order of the noose meant for his neck, perhaps it is time to let the ghosts of his past rest. He was always told that his lot was to be the beating wings of the freedom of the sky. Though whether the Last Swan would herald weal or woe, only time and circumstance can tell.

Pikehead is imposing to say the least. Armored from head to toe in steel and spikes, little is known about him or what he looks like underneath the iron. Soft-spoken and tamed, his demeanor hardly lives up to the foreboding presence he commands. Mayhaps it was because of his duties to his late master in Old Voron. A soldier molded into a near perfect machine.

In war, the only thing stronger than fear is hunger. A tyrant is only different from a peasant in appetite.

Raised amidst the oppressive reign of the late King Barov, Omen had to learn how to navigate the streets of Voron as much as the various plights littering it. The circumstances of his birth, coupled with the struggles he faced growing up, taught him to attribute value to the few possessions he truly owned. Value he is willing to exchange for the only thing he ever hungers for: a home.

I promised them it would all get better, but all I brought them was ruin. I cannot fail again, but if ruin is what he needs, ruin I shall bring.

A soldier, a knight, a sword. Whatever he is, one thing that can describe him is loyalty. And why would he be the one that betrayed the kingdom? Who knows. But now, it seems like he got his second chance, and he will not waste it.

1. How many works do you have on ao3 (or masterlist)? - none currently, but i’ve been focusing on two wips as of late!! i’ll be cross-posting them on archive of our own, wattpad, fanfiction.net, and here sometime soon.

What are your writing strengths? - felt too Cocky to answer this myself, so i relied on @thenn (as per usual)... according to miss dani, my ocs and lore changes/additions feel unique but still merge well with canon, and i tone-match grrm’s writing style very well (“u could ghostwrite twow and ados and no one would notice”). she also says house weir is easily her favourite original house. yes i have tears in my eyes, next question please

17. What are your writing weaknesses? - dani says my downfall is continuously writing the same 10 chapters over and over again bc i think they’re no good. and she would be right

18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language? - all good, as long as a translation is included!!

🍐 Is there anything in canon that you absolutely hate and love to fix in fics? A wrong choice made, a fuck-up in characterization, a misunderstanding never cleared up, a conversation never shown onscreen, etc…

Question the first: As someone who writes for Barriss I am constantly trying to toss a life preserver to the Wrong Jedi arc. Many Legends Barriss fans hate it because, yes, her heel turn is way out of left field, and they didn't bother to explain it properly. But I just love that speech she gives so I can't abandon it. I'm about to do it again in Contrasts, have Barriss explain why she framed Ahsoka. Canon currently just handwaves it as PTSD and it's like okay, show us. Give us a flashback where we see that more than one short story. Get her hands dirty in stages. It's called good storytelling.

I also love finding those scenes that we know should have happened but weren't shown. That's the point of Theed Lament. That's sort of the point of You Look Just Like Him.

Question the second: Expanding on the first question I love AUs where Barriss is more emotionally intelligent and stops herself from fully falling. That's the point of the Sundari Concerto, that's Lavendar and Chartreuse. Or a story where her terrorism is treated with more weight, that's the point of Inferno. Or one where there isn't a Clone War at all like Dusk of a Golden Age.

I kind of like AUs where Revenge of the Sith ends differently with Sheev dying and exploring the fallout of that. Inferno is my take on that but so many others have done it better such as @airlockfailure with Invictus.

And Modern Day AUs are so fun! It's hard not to make them too cringe but I am very proud of Let's Call it Love.

But do I have a beef with any AUs? That's a tricky one. Up until May 4th I would have said Inquisitor Barriss stories, but canon did the best possible version of that to my relief. I would still prefer she had escaped right away but I am trying to make peace with it. Contrasts is my self-guided therapy to accepting Tales of the Empire.

For a moment, it seemed as if his words had gotten through to the inquisitor. Clive could see the moment of hesitation, of doubt regarding the acts of the past. Perhaps that wasn't for the best though, as the weight of a past could be crushing, especially if you were running from it without knowing. Clive had plenty of experience in that department, and it was obvious Genesis struggled just moments before deciding to lash out rather than confront the revelation he was dealing with. It seemed his words had left a mark, more-so than a blade would have.

Invictus clashed against the man's blade again and again, sparks flying, lighting up the night around them for mere moments before dying down, only to be reignited as Genesis struck again. The man was in a near-blind rage at this point, and Clive was growing concerned he wouldn't be able to talk the man down. Genesis's swings were growing faster, and Clive was beginning to struggle with defending against them. Once or twice, he thought he'd earn a cut for his trouble, but just barely he managed to avoid it.

It wasn't long before they separated again, space between them allowing them both to breathe. Genesis seemed the worst for it, gasping for air while Clive panted, the energy of Ifrit powering him through the exhaustion of swordplay. As the man lifted his sword again, Clive did as well, only....Genesis's blade erupted into flames.

And seemingly not by the man's volition. "So, you are a Bearer." There were numerous questions in Clive's mind now. He wasn't sure how Genesis had managed to be able to avoid detection for so long, especially as an Inquisitor of the Iron Kingdom, or how he seemed unaware of his own abilities. Had the man run so far from the possibility his mind had wiped any trace of the memories of his power? Or did he only just now awaken? The man seemed at least in his late twenties, so what a late bloom if so. Too many questions, not enough time to ponder them.

With the Inquisitor disarmed, Clive lowered his blade, the tip pointed earthward but not entirely, prepared to defend himself if the man leaped at him in confused fury once again. Though, he seemed more preoccupied with the discarded blade, disbelief written across his face. "Was that your first spell?" Clive had to ask, though it likely wouldn't help the situation. The man was clearly confused by what happened, and pointing out it was him, when he held the belief that Bearers and Dominants were unnatural, well. That would be dangerous.

He wouldn't press his point on it being a natural thing, not wanting to break the poor man when he was already on the edge.

Flint and steel struck against Genesis' composure, the sparks of Clive's words gradually slipping between cracks and questions that the inquisitor would have never before entertained. But somewhere inside, he felt brittle. Bent and broken, tossed into an empty pit. Because what if it was true? What if, all this time, all the blood he so zealously shed had been innocent? Somewhere in his chest, he drowned in pitch and tar.

When Genesis next exhaled, the cool air of the vineyard shivered. A seemingly errant spark had made it through, atop the kindling. All at once, it lit aflame. "Silence heretic!" He growled, lounging in blind rage. The exquisite red steel of his blade beat down against the one that defended its master. Again, and again, Genesis contested Invictus and Clive, tenacious and unyielding. And the more he raged, the faster he became. It was when he was deflected a distance away that everything would change. He bled, cuts stinging, and he gasped to fuel the demands he was putting on his body. But at this point, what did it matter? If he could not succeed here, there was no place for him anyway. He rallied for another slew of attacks his sword cutting across when it erupted in flames. Startled, and doing what any sensible person would do-- he tossed it haphazardly to the side and stumbled back and away from it. And then he stared in disbelief at what he had just done.

playin’ Civ, realized I had never won a ‘score’ victory (because I always won some other way first). disabled all other win conditions. built a nice little one-continent empire with a dozen or so cities, built them up nice. great! time to sit back and let the clock run out while i accrue points at like three to five times the rate of my closest competitor.

but then. Spain. Fucking. Spain. Motherfucking Phillip II. starts sending missionaries and apostles over. and converting my cities. to Catholicism.

it’s only like turn 375 out of 500, I’ve still got 125 turns of this bullshit. sending inquisitors to turn my cities back from smelly old Catholicism to proper worship of Sol Invictus. That sounds boring and like it requires too much attention.

so instead I spent some of my like 40,000 hoarded gold to buy a bunch of nuclear submarines and set my most productive cities to cranking out thermonuclear weapons while the subs sailed into position just ahead of a bunch of modern armor and mechanized infantry to hold the position.

Hey, Phillip, it’s me. Remember when I asked you to promise not to convert my cities and you said it was ‘for the best’ and kept doing it anyway?

"and yet, so far at least we have yet to figure out what you gain from this." It's a question as well as statement. A chance to explain, to come clean on why she - a unknown Sith- had assassinated they're precious, beloved Chancellor (what fools). But how could you come clean when there is so much blood on her hands? Never-mind the sins and blood on Vader and Luke's when her family had been alive.

When she answers it's not because she's announcing her transgressions in hope that her heavy, dirty soul might be saved. One couldn't repent when they didn't feel guilt in their sin.

"For the love of a daughter." Leia pauses and looks back at Anakin and thinks: I did this to avenge you. After thinking that Leia says one more thing - the last thing actually because she nothing else to say after this.

"And you should have been more careful electing your Chancellor. You never know who is Sith." This has double meaning but she's the only person who knows it.

And she's fine with that (no, she isn't).

Leia wonders if her younger self and Luke will ever become the monsters like her Luke had been and the monster she is.

PLACE IN SOCIETY

✖ FINANCIAL – wealthy / moderate / poor / in poverty

Living a nomadic life comes with certain trials; there are lean times, depending on the whims of nature and human tolerance. Still, Yuo’s never felt that he wanted for anything. Clan Lavellan has been around a long time, and they know how to provide for their own. No doubt those who live comfortably in cities look down on their lifestyle, but the Dalish have different values. Just because they do not measure their lives by the weight of a coin purse does not make them poorer for it.

✖ MEDICAL – fit / moderate / sickly / disabled / disadvantaged

Yuo is very physically fit, with excellent endurance and stamina. He trains frequently and eats well and has a lean, well-toned figure. That being said, his method of fighting and chosen specializations are hard on his body. He has to take care with his many scars so they don’t tighten up or cause him pain. Even so, old wounds have a tendency to flare up, especially when the weather turns. Recurring pain is a reality of his life that Yuo has had to account for. (And, of course, the loss of his preferred hand post-Trespasser is an adjustment.)

✖ CLASS OR CASTE – upper / lower / middle / working / unsure

Being Dalish puts Yuo at a certain remove from the classes of human society. Life among the Dalish requires hard work, but the people are not split into arbitrary groups based on the perceived virtue of that work. Of course, he is considered lower class by most humans, although becoming Inquisitor has changed that. It chafes Yuo that he is considered a peer to the nobility he has so long disdained.

Yuo has an intense curiosity and desire to learn. Any place he sleeps always ends up surrounded by scattered piles of books. He keeps a journal to make notes of his travels, the things he encounters and experiences. He investigates every ancient ruin or mysterious magic artifact he finds. He has a broad scope of knowledge thanks to his clan’s travels, and life experience has granted him wisdom. He enjoys debating magic with his mage companions (even Solas), and has no qualms about going to someone more educated on a matter than he is.

Yuo and Dorian had a very long road before ending up together, and even when they did, things were rocky. They are deeply in love, but their respective hang-ups and conflicting worldviews do not make things easy. That said, they are devoted and ultimately make it out the other side still committed. Following Trespasser, they are married among Yuo’s people before Dorian’s return to Tevinter. It’s initially a long-distance affair, what with their respective duties, but eventually they are able to settle down together.

✖ CHILDREN – has children / no children / wants children / adopted children

Yuo adores children and he loves mentoring them. In his late 20′s, a single mother in the clan died, and he and his sister took her three children into their care: the clan’s first Mahanon, his twin sister Danae, and their elder sibling Ephraim. Yuo doesn’t consider himself a father to them, more of an uncle/older brother type guardian, but he has put infinite care into raising them.

Some years after being married, once the issue of Solas is dealt with, Yuo adopts a half-elf boy with Dorian named Invictus. They raise him together, between Tevinter and Yuo’s clan, and ultimately he succeeds Dorian in the Magisterium.

Yuo has one sibling, an older sister, Anavi. They have always been close and understand each other intuitively. As children, they were very competitive; as adults, this dynamic developed into a playfully teasing one. Their personalities are complete opposites, but their core ideals are the same, and they would give anything for each other.

Yuo’s mother died when he was 19, just before he received his vallaslin, and his father when he was 22. He was close with both his parents and took their deaths hard; though he has learned to live with the pain, he never really recovered from it. His parents were attentive and loving to both him and his sister and raised them with strict values. Yuo inherited his looks from his mother, much of his personality from his father, and from both his unwavering sense of responsibility to the People.

From the outside, Yuo definitely seems disorganized. His personal space is messy and his belongings are often in disarray. However, Yuo knows exactly where everything is, and so does not consider himself disorganized.

Yuo has strong ideals and is definitely biased against certain factions which have proven themselves harmful (such as the Chantry, templars, and general nobility). That said, Yuo is willing to be proven wrong and to admit it. Aside from that, Yuo has no judgement for one’s race, identity, or lifestyle. Yuo has a firm sense of justice and no tolerance for prejudice.

✖ cautious / reckless / in between

Yuo is confident, but not arrogant; careful, but not inhibited. He enjoys the adrenaline rush of battle and is not against spontaneity in his daily life. He knows when to be cautious--he would not have lived this long otherwise--but he indulges in moments of impulsivity when he can get away with it. He is wary with people, a free-spirit tempered with age, but not opposed to seeking pleasure when the opportunity presents.

✖ patient / impatient / in between

Yuo is.. not patient. He can be, when the situation calls for it, but he is not inclined toward waiting. If there are things to do, then they should be done. There is so much to wait on as Inquisitor; politics are infuriatingly time-consuming. Yuo’s patience is reserved for children, animals, and students. Everyone else must deal with Yuo’s restless hands and huffy breaths and pinched brows.

✖ outspoken / reserved / in between

Yuo’s voice has always been loud, and he’s never been one to keep his thoughts to himself. He might be reserved on personal matters, but when he has something to say, he will not hold his tongue. If one has offended him, he will not hesitate to let them know; when he is joyful, he shares it with all. Yuo’s voice has always carried, whether in anger or exuberance, and as Inquisitor, Yuo’s voice is well-recognized by his followers.

Yuo can be a good follower. He listens to his Keeper, follows her advice. He knows when to defer to the authority of someone with more experience. That said, his assertive and confident nature means he can easily slip into the position of leader. He is not comfortable with the scope of his role as Inquisitor, but he would bear the responsibility before putting it on anyone else. He can make hard decisions and deal with the consequences. He is content to follow one who has earned his respect, but if Yuo can take control, he is not inclined to leave the handling of a problem to others.

Yuo is often uncompromising when it comes to his ideals, and he may seem callous and harsh to those he disagrees with, but underneath is a heart easily bruised with compassion. Yuo is incapable of seeing suffering without doing something to right it. The gentleness he displays with children, with the wounded and downtrodden, always surprises people. Yuo never developed the skill for healing, but he took Sylaise’s vallaslin because he wished to emulate her care and protection. Yuo may seem harsh, but he possesses the skill to understand even his most despised enemies.

Yuo was optimistic, once. He’s lived through too much loss to retain it. Yuo is definitely on the more pessimistic side of realistic. He considers loss and hardship an inevitability; when it happens is simply a whim of fate. It is not so debilitating as to keep him from fighting, but hope, for Yuo, is something he has in short supply.

Yuo is a person defined by duty, perpetually burdened by responsibility. He does not know how to live selfishly. His parents raised him to value community above all else, and his life has been largely spent in service to the clan. He could not shirk his duties any more than he is capable of living without breathing. He would work himself into the ground if his companions let him.

✖ cultured / uncultured / in between

Another thing the Dalish have different values regarding. Yuo fits in among his people, but he’s certainly.. rougher around the edges than most. He takes care of his things, but has no interest in putting on airs. He has a vast scope of knowledge and follows the etiquette of his people, but has no patience for meaningless niceties. No one has ever accused him of being a gentleman. No doubt humans view him as uncouth, and he’s fine with that. Or he would be, if his role as Inquisitor didn’t require him to rub elbows with nobility.

✖ loyal / disloyal / in between

Once Yuo’s trust has been earned, he will be loyal almost to a fault. There are lines--betrayals harsh enough to sever his loyalty--but unless that line is met, Yuo is the zealous type, willing to lay down his life for a loved one. His clan and family have his utmost devotion. Yuo’s loyalty can a frightening thing.

✖ faithful / unfaithful / in between

While Yuo is comfortable with non-monogamous arrangements and has been more inclined to them in the past, he does not cheat. Such arrangements only work with the consent and understanding of those involved. And Yuo is far from unwilling to be monogamous. He may never fully close off the possibility of inviting guests to a shared bed, but he is a devoted lover, and whatever his partner needs from him, he will do his utmost to provide.

Sexuality for Yuo is a bit complicated as he is genderfluid. In modern parlance, he would consider himself gay and queer, as he is masc-leaning and has a sole preference for men.

Yuo is a very sexual person. He very much enjoys sex and uses it as both a means of connection and stress relief. His clan always had a relaxed, open-minded attitude regarding sex and relationships, and Yuo grew up with a group of friends he often engaged in casual sex with. He’s had far more casual partners than he has romances and that suits him just fine.

✖ ROMANCE – romance repulsed / romance neutral / romance favorable

Throughout his life, Yuo has been more inclined towards casual relationships than committed, intimate ones, but that’s mostly by happenstance than a strong preference. When he was young, Yuo viewed such relationships as a means of enjoyment; if he didn’t enjoy himself, he did not stay. He’s had only a few serious romances in his life, but not because he has anything against romance specifically. After putting his trust in someone who ultimately betrayed him, he’s been cautious whom he gives his heart to. Sex is easier than romance for him, but when he falls, it’s with his whole heart. Falling for Dorian was a particular combination of trials, but ultimately he followed his heart and never lets anyone doubt his feelings.

Yuo has been around the block more than a few times when it comes to sex. There’s not a lot he hasn’t tried, and he’s usually willing to try anything once. He knows what he likes, and there isn’t much he doesn’t. Yuo enjoys tender love-making, but his craving for adrenaline definitely shows up in some of his sexual tastes. Sex is one of the few things Yuo doesn’t have any hang-ups over; he’s confident in his abilities and enjoys exploring various pleasures with his partner. Dorian had some exciting escapades in Tevinter and was rather surprised that Yuo was the one teaching him things when they finally fell into bed together.

ABILITIES

Yuo is extremely skilled as a mage and in combat, but he never lets himself be complacent. There is always more to learn, and Yuo learns eagerly. He’s been in a lot of conflict throughout his life and met many different peoples, and he’s learned something from all of them. Yuo was granted a lot of raw power with his magic, and while he’s not a natural prodigy, he works hard to learn, to hone his skills. He never takes his abilities for granted or treats them lightly. Yuo’s experience, knowledge, and innate power make him a formidable enemy on the battlefield

✖ LITERACY SKILLS – excellent / good / moderate / poor / none

Yuo is a largely self-taught polygot, taking every opportunity he can to learn and practices languages. He can read and write Trade, as well as Elvish. He can speak Antivan and Qunlat, and knows bits of Rivaini and Tevene, as well. Yuo craves knowledge and reads everything he can get his hands on. He journals extensively for matters of record-keeping and research. Dalish history is filled with so much loss, Yuo understands the value of information, of knowledge, of making sure things are passed down for future generations.

✖ ARTISTIC SKILLS – excellent / good / moderate / poor / none

Yuo can make sketches of various plants and monuments for journaling purposes, but other than that, he has little artistic ability. He enjoys music, but cannot sing, and resigns himself to humming at the behest of his companions. He learned carving from his father, and often whittles to keep his hands busy, and it’s the only thing close to art he does. Still, his carvings often have little embellishment and detail. They are blunt representations, and while Yuo would not consider them art, his companions find them charming for their rusticity.

✖ TECHNICAL SKILLS – excellent / good / moderate / poor / none

If “being good at learning things” is a skill, Yuo has it. He is good with his hands and generally only has to do something a couple times to get a grasp of it. He’s good at following instructions and has a logical thought process (which surprises people); this does mean he struggles with things that require creativity, like art and cooking. But Yuo learned young how to maintain his armor and equipment, and Dalish life required knowing various tasks and being able to pitch in when necessary with jobs that weren’t necessarily your own.

‘Champion’ by Vashoth on FF.net https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10826002/1/Champion an incredibly imaginitive fairytale AU with Hawke being queen Leandra’s daughter forced to offer her hand in marriage to the knight who wins the grand tournament held in her honor. Fenris is a runaway slave who stole a knight’s identity by chance and is taking part in the competition. This fic holds my heart forever by giving Fenris nickname “Goose” and having both Bethany and Carver in it.

‘Love is a farm in Ferelden’ - maybe the sweetest and fluffiest work of fanfiction created by the wonderful  Shinkshinkshink  and JenniferHawke on FF.net (sadly unfinished). https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9161497/1/Love-is-a-Farm-in-Ferelden  An AU set 3 years before the blight chases the Hawke family away from Lothering, with Fenris finding his way to this small town in search of refuge. Hawke family present in full, with the best Malcolm Hawke i’ve seen in fanfiction ever!
