summary: You discover some inconsistencies, and begin to research further
You stare at the dataslate that holds a seemingly endless amount of paperwork for you to do. Despite normally finding form-work like this to be soothing, if not a little dull when the information contained within isn’t stuff that you need to know, or find interesting to read about… You’ve been unable to focus for more than ten minutes at a time, before your mind wanders. While you are safely tucked away in the fortress monastery of the White Consuls - a successor chapter of the Ultramarines - Cato, Demetrian and most of the second company are currently deployed, fighting against the Tyranid menace that threatens to consume the entire galaxy, if they are not stopped.
You want nothing more than to believe with all your heart and soul that both of your lovers will come home whole, healthy and victorious… But you’ve seen the ravaged, stripped wastelands that a Tyranid hive fleet can reduce entire systems down to, if they are not driven off of the worlds they attempt to consume and killed or driven out of the system entirely. You’ve seen some of the reports of entire chapters of Astartes being wiped out by Tyranids. Not just a squad of astartes. Not just a company of Astartes, but entire chapters of Astartes being killed and consumed by this insectoid menace from beyond the void of night.
The Tyranid threat is so intense that you’ve found yourself murmuring prayers to the God-Emp-... To Him on Terra, despite having been ordered not to do so by Lord Guilliman (he himself who brings victory wherever he goes. The last loyal son of the Emperor. More than a few worlds consider him to be a deity as well, though subordinate to Him on Terra). You… You try not to give into that temptation, but your faith has been something that you’ve been taught is Right and Just… Abandoning it has left a void that you grieve, especially when you are left alone to your thoughts.
You had not been left without a protector entirely, though the escort you have been given is not one you would have chosen. You peek at Sargeant Leandros from the corners of your eyes, careful to keep your head turned toward the dataslate in your hands and suppress another sigh from leaving your lips… Wait, what was that you just read? You blink, straightening out of your stupor a little as you refocus on the first of the series of reports that the advanced scouts into the next system to be re-integrated into the greater Imperium of Man. The one that is currently fighting to stay out of the endless maw of the Tyranid Swarm.
“My lady?” Sergeant Leandros asked, his helmeted gaze snapping to you as he noted your movement. “Has something caught your attention?”
“It has… I’ll need to cross-reference what this says, with what the others have sent to me… But I think that - ah. Things may be more fraught than they first appear in the sector where most of the Indomitus fleet is currently embattled.” You respond, reading through the information as quickly as you can without skipping words or whole phrases that could be key.
The Ultramarine is immediately at your side, reading over your shoulder from the way he leans into your personal space. “What do you mean?”
“There was a recent change in power, in the past few years. The cause of the switch over had something to do with an Inquisitor and a suspected gene-stealer Cult that the former Governor may or may not have had ties with. Or at least, that’s what the Inquisitor said. You and I both know how accurate Inquisitors can be when they want something, and-... Huh… Can you bring up a list of Ordo Hereticus Inquisitors who have gone missing or were presumed to be killed in that and the nearby surrounding sectors, please? There’s something about this Lady Evergleam that bothers me.” You answer, the mild frown on your face deepening.
“Yes ma’am.” Leandros answered, snapping you a quick salute.
Despite your reservations about the sergeant, there are aspects to him that are endearing… Mostly when he reminds you of Demetrian, or Cato. One of the corners of your mouth lift up into a small smile “Thank you, Sergeant.”
~
Months of careful planning and research had led up to this moment. You walked confidently into the large throne room and called out “Lady Inquisitor.” There is a professional smile on your face, and ice in your eyes as you walk over to where Lady Evergleam, Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus was currently standing “What is it that you are doing?”
Lady Evergleam was far too close to a helmet-less and visibly uncomfortable Demetrian, the latter of whom was leaning away from the powerful baseline woman.
The Inquisitor had one hand lightly touching his chest plate, the other raised, likely to signal several of her retinue who were standing in different points in the room. She took a half-step away from Titus and lowered her hands, answering with an equally professional smile “Merely inspecting one of the Ultramarines off-duty, as the others are helping doing clean up while dealing with the aftermath of the xenos invasion.” She looks you up and down, raising an eyebrow at you “From your dress and brazenness and interrupting me during my sacred duties, you must be Lord Guilliman’s head diplomat.”
You had gotten an SOS message from Demetrian, just before you had been about to present certain information to Lord Guilliman. You’d handed him a dataslate that had a copy of the information that you had gathered before informing him that you needed to help Titus out of an awkward social situation.
Lord Guilliman had been amused and had allowed you to leave, a light chuckle rumbling from the Primarch and a warm if small smile on his face.
You had used the serfs’ paths in this palace to get to where Titus was faster than using the general access hallways and rooms that were much more winding and circuitous. Your eyes narrow a little as you walk purposefully towards Demetrian, placing yourself between him and the handsy Inquisitor. You are still smiling politely at her “I am indeed one of the diplomats who work directly for the IMperial regent, yes.” You scrutinize her further before answering “I have reviewed inspection protocols, of which you are in violation of several. Lieutenant Titus, should he require Inquisitorial Inspection, should have an Ultramarine Apothecary and Chaplain present. Additionally his superior officer may be in attendance as well, or at the very least should have been informed of this inspection beforehand, which he has not.”
“... Lieutenant Titus? Last I heard he is a captain.” Lady Evergleam inquired, a confused expression flashing across her face.
Your eyes narrow a little more at the incongruity. Titus shifts a bit behind you. You want to reach out and hold one of his hands, but that would be a breach of etiquette that neither you nor he can afford at the moment. “How strange. I would think that an Inquisitor such as yourself would keep up to date on such things. Besides, Even if Titus was a captain, his superior officer would be the chapter master who had not been informed of your… Inspection, either.”
She bristles at your tone, her eyes narrowing some “And just what are you trying to imply, you silver-tongued -”
You deliberately interrupt her, to provoke her further “Only that you have breached protocols several times, and have outdated information. Which is ill-fitting of an Inquisitor of your status, Lady Evergleam.”
“If you are accusing me of something, stop dancing around the point, you Ultramarine branded harlot!” Evergleam hissed, glaring harder at you.
Normally, an Inquisitor glaring at you like that would make you nervous. But Cato’s voice rumbled in the earpiece you were wearing “I’m in position. Father is coming. Time to unmask her in front of her court.”
Your smile turns sharp “You are not who you claim to be. After all, Lady Evergleam has been listed as KIA for over a hundred and twenty years. Her ship was destroyed along with everyone aboard her ship after the ship’s Gellar fields fell during a warm storm. You may have taken her face and voice, but you are not her. Nor are your companions her true retinue.”
“How dare you accuse me of being an IMposter! I will have you arrested for the sheer cheek! Guards -” The false lady Inquisitor growled, playing every inch the offended and innocent party “Guards! Arrest this woman! We must have been displaced in time and the wreckage of another ship and crew were found and mistaken to be myself and my retinue.”
“So you still claim to be Inquisitor Evergleam?” You press, raising an eyebrow at this interloper. She had been playing petty tyrant on this world for several years. Even if she was who she claimed to be. Her actions since she claimed dominion over this world had earned her a swift execution.
"I don't claim to be anyone. I am Inquisitor Amela Evergleam!" The Inquisitor growled, "And you're one to talk about people being declared KIA, Lt. Titus here was declared KIA on Graia, during the Ork invasion of that world." She huffed.
"He was taken into Inquisitorial custody, actually," Primarch Guilliman called out, resplendent in the Armor of Fate, the Sword of the God Emperor in hand and unsheathed, psychic flames dancing along the blade, "That Inquisitor lied about Demetrian's status, among other things, for which he was killed. You stand accused of subverting the resources of an Imperial Word, Inquisitor. How do you plead?"
Evergleam sputters indignantly (and probably from fear. The cool fury of a Primarch is no small thing to bear the brunt of). "We have been trying to fulfill the Imperial Tithes imposed upon us. But recent seasons have been harsh, and an illness has been running rampant among the populace. I offer what we can spare, so as to not starve and slowly kill those left alive, my lord," She paused for several moments before falling to her knees, hands clasped together as if in prayer, "Lord Primarch, I took control of this world due to the mismanagement and foolishness of it's previous rulers. I have been working day and night for three years since I took governorship, to fix what I can... I have been plagued by bureaucratic bloat and internal obstruction and sabotage. I swear on all I hold dear that i have been doing all I can do-"
She fell silent as the Lord Primarch lifted his free hand in a silencing gesture. "Cease your begging and self-aggrandizement. My agents infiltrated your government months ahead of my arrival, to discern the truth of things. I declare that you have been found wanting. I offer you a choice: either you retire and live in quiet luxury, away from the halls of power of this or any other Imperial World... Or I will end your life now. Choose."
Guilliman underlined his words by pointing the tip of the Emperor's Blade at the kneeling Inquisitor, staring down at her, his face an inscrutable mask.
The Inquisitor froze on her knees, eyes wide. Her retinue had scattered away from her at the Primarch's approach, falling to their knees in terrified supplication, "My... my Lord Regent, is there no way I can prove myself an able planetary governor?"
"No, Choose. Wealthy retirement or execution." Guilliman rumbled, unwavering and unreadable.
"I... I will... I will retire quietly, Lord Regent and I thank you for your mercy. I don't know how or why you feel that I failed you, Imp-"
She was cut off by a frown on Guilliman's face, her own growing paler, "Cease. Talking. You need to pack your personal belonging and leave the governor's mansion by the end of the day. Begone." He commanded.
Lady Evergleam scramble up onto her feet and fled, her staff scurrying after her. The rest of her court immediately begin to whisper and murmur to one another.
A particularly ambitious looking nobleman dares to approach the still thunderously frowning Lord Guilliman, for reasons you can guess at. Your focus, however, is drawn to Demetrian, as he places a large, armored hand on one of your shoulders. You look up into his eyes, smiling gently.
“You came…” He breathed.
“You called.” You answered, smiling gently up at him. “Cato is watching, nearby. Care to go for a walk with me, lieutenant? It’s a tad crowded in here for my tastes, and the Imperial Regent is going to be busy sorting out this lot for some time, I think.”
Titus hummed in agreement, the hand he had on your shoulder sliding gently down to your elbow “It would be my honor, my lady.” WIth that you and he walk into the meticulously cared for gardens.
A tall, broad blue and gold blur slams into Titus as soon as the doors close, hiding you and him from sight.
Titus lets out a startled “Fuck! What the -”
“Shut. Up.” Growled Cato, holding the older Marine in close, a low, warning rumble in his voice “That SOS you sent both of us worried the fuck out of me. Last time you were that close to an Inquisitor, you went missing for three centuries. If Father hadn’t ordered me to watch through a damn sniper’s scope I would’ve-”
“Done something reckless and stupid?” Demetrian teases, pressing his forehead to Cato’s, pulling you in to hug you as well.
One of Cato’s arms wraps around you, the other still holding tightly to Titus. “No. All of my moves are calculated and well thought out.”
“You’re just awful at math, half of the time.” Demetrian teased, a crooked grin on his face.
“Oi! Slander! Dearheart, he’s bullying me! And that’s after getting cornered by that shitty bitch whose been stalking him for weeks. I knew that she was planning something. You just thought it was because she was grateful you saved her life. I knew it was some kind of shady shit. Inquisitors are trouble.” Cato groused.
You chuckle and go up on your tiptoes, kissing both of your beloveds on the neck, which was the highest point that you could kiss both of them, while they were in their armor. Especially since Demetrian had crossed the Rubicon Primaris. He’d somehow gotten even taller. “I think we can head home. What do you think loves?”
“Yeah. We’re off-duty, officially and Father is being watched over by the fourth company. I don’t envy Ventris. When father starts yelling like that, he gets… Really intense.” Cato rumbled.
“Poor lad. He really has some shite luck. Hopefully he won’t be harassed by either of the Lunatics after his ass, now that Father has taken the Imperial Helm.” Demetrian sighed, shaking his head a little.
“Blegh. We’ve already fought Tyranids. Please don’t try to summon Renegades, or throne forbid Chaos down upon us. They are annoying as shit to fight.” Cato grumbled.
You smile softly as you hold hands with both of your lovers, enjoying listen to the two of them bicker and banter with one another, occasionally teasing one or both of them as well. They tease you back, of course.

The lore of the Hounds of Terra space marine chapter, an ultima founding chapter of unusual providence, skirting the edge of imperial tolerance as they scrape out an existence on the eastern fringe in the imperium nhilus.
Based out of the heavily modified and heavily damaged Vengeance class grand cruiser, Remembrance of Hetzen, with a haggard attendant fleet, the Hounds are a fleet based chapter of uncertain heritage. When the great rift spread across the stars, the minor manufacturing world of Hetzen Four fell under siege by the traitors of the Red Corsairs. The planet's saving grace was that it was home to one of Archmagos Belisarius Cawl's primaris vaults. Once it was clear that any allied forces wouldn't make it to the planet before the chaos warfleet would arrive, supervising Magos Ven Rho-3 made the decision to rouse the suspended marines and prepare their wargear for the coming siege.
Over the course of the next thirty years of war, great tragedy resulted in the death of almost all of the original greyshields and the prime geneseed stocks, a strikeforce from the nearby Twilight Hawks chapter joined the war, harrassing the Red Corsair fleet in orbit, and, most critically, Magos Ven Rho-3 retrieved a supply of previously rejected geneseed to replenish astartes losses during the siege. The bearers of this geneseed were refered to as "hounds" by the other primaris during the siege. The faulty geneseed results in an overactive Larraman's organ, a damaged Sus-an membrane, an overactive Betcher's gland, and most notably, this geneseed has a 100% rejection rate in male subjects, with successful implantation only being recorded in female aspirants.
Finally, an element of the Indomitus crusade arrived in-system, turning the tide of the war in space, and chasing off the chaos fleet. After the last of the traitor forces planetside were mopped up, the various commanders active through the siege of Hetzen were called to report aboard the Armageddon battlecruiser Lady of Damnation. After several days, and the judgement of an Ordo Astartes Inquisitor among the crusade force, the surviving greyshields were sent to join other ultima founding chapters, and hounds were officially formed into the space marine chapter the Hounds of Terra, under now-chapter master Resia Avidon. The surviving elements of the Twilight Hawks strikeforce were made into the first company of the Hounds of Terra after they were informed that in their absence, their home world had fallen to chaos and the rest of their chapter was reported to have died fighting the incursion. Captain Tetys also saw folding his forces into the Hound's chapter as just recompense for his failings that nearly wiped out the original greyshields and necessitated the creation of the Hounds early in the siege. Also folded into the fledgling chapter, Magos Ven Rho-3 was tasked with overseeing the continued health of the Hound's geneseed and the training of the chapter's apothecarium in the procedures he had developed.
The new chapter retained the ships originally brought by the Twilight hawks, as well as several transports provided by the crusade, but their fleet was severely lacking in warships. After collecting as much of the surviving populace of the siege as they could fit, the fleet headed for a third line imperial navy reserve fleet yard known to Magos Ven Rho-3. It was at this facility that the chapter recovered and began refurbishment of the grand cruiser the chapter uses as their fortress monastery to this day, as well as a handful of other, smaller warships and heavy transports. After recovering what they could from the leavings in the fleet yard, the chapter set out to further bolster their manpower and secure use of active shipyard facilities to finish refits and deeper repairs on several ships in their patchwork fleet.
At the Cypra Zenith system, the chapter impressed personnel from some of the larger fisheries and mining stations while also aiding the Governor in rooting out and dispatching a subversive movement before it could become the bed of a chaos cult. After this, they moved on to nearby forgeworld of Potassiar. The tech priests of Potassiar allowed the chapter to repair the worst of their mainenance issues, but argued that further refits could not be overseen due to the pressing responsibilities that the planet had to complete for its own purposes. This eventually led to a deal being struck, in which Captain Tetys would immediately set out with a strikeforce to aid a mechanicus recovery team seeking to take advantage of the space hulk Intolerable Sloth's most recent appearance within a nearby system's gravity well. This action would secure the initial refit of Remembrance of Hetzen, before the rest of the chapter would be tasked with recovering several relics previously entrusted to the knight house of Ebo, which had been out of contact with the forgeworld for over a decade. Once the chapter had returned with the relics, the forgeworld would conduct full refits of the chapter's strike cruisers.
Tetys' strikeforce, consisting of the chapter's terminators and most of its gravis marines, faced no significant issues clearing the infestation of greenskins from the parts of the hulk requested by the mechanicus expedition. Within a few months, the strikeforce had established enough of a perimeter ahead of the mechanicus' reclamation efforts to free up some of their forces for their own exploration. It was in this capacity that the marines uncovered an ancient cache of relic astartes equipment buried in the half collapsed cargo bay, including suits of relic cataphracti terminator armor, and relic dreadnought components, all marked in unfamiliar heraldry. Knowing what a difference this wargear could make to the chapter, Tetys ordered the wargear that could be salvaged to be loaded aboard their strike cruiser and quietly repainted in the Hounds of Terra's colors.
Meanwhile, Avidon's mission to Scathora IV, the home of House Ebo, revealed a world covered in windstorms and noxious ash, the ruins of cities dotted with craters from fierce fighting. Locating and relieving the scant handful of House Ebo survivors, the Hounds of Terra joined the superheavy war machines in their fight against the chaos marines that had so ravaged their home, the Bleeding Eyes warband of the Thousand Sons. With the Hounds being able to provide a way off world to the knights, the sole goal of the campaign became securing and extracting any Ebo holdouts, as well as any equipment and relics they could. This became especially paramount as the Bleeding eyes began to field tainted knights raised from the fallen machines of House Ebo. The campaign eventually concluded after five years of skirmishing, with a deep strike into the heart of enemy territory to break into the forgotten vaults of House Ebo hidden within the ancient tombs of the kings of the house. Within the tombs were many relics yet untainted, including the last of the relics the Hounds were to recover for the mechanicus of Potassiar, a relic Porphyrion Knight, last used by the first High King of Scathora. The Hounds of Terra suffered greatly in this assault, losing nearly two whole reserve companies when the back line was assaulted by a host of demons summoned by the chaos sorcerers, but they were able to extract themselves and their allies with the lion's share of the tomb vault's contents.
As Chapter Master Avidon and the majority of the chapter's fleet returned to Potassiar, Captain Tetys was still aboard the Intolerable Sloth. Once the fleet reached orbit, Magos Ven Rho-3 as well as Engineseer Ebax van Harv of House Ebo were sent to oversee the loading of new systems and hardware onto the Remembrance of Hetzen for later installation, while Avidon and High Queen Rayna Ebo, along with their honor guards, traveled down to the planet's surface with the promised relics to report to the Magos council of Potassiar and finalize the arrangements for both their forces. Unfortunately, the techpriests of Potassiar had struck another deal, in secret, with the Blight Hawks chaos warband of Nurgle, the survivors of the chaos assault on the Twilight Hawk's homeworld, now fallen to the worship of the dark gods. Once the magos council had confirmed the handover of the relics, the Chapter Master and High Queen were set upon by an ambush. At the end of the day, the chapter master was mortally wounded, the fleet was limping, losses amongst the company elements onboard the Remembrance of Hetzen were heavy, but the chapter had survived, and sent word to Tetys, who in a rage, launched a surprise attack on the Potassiar recovery expedition, crippling their engines, and seizing a sizable portion of their work before fleeing the system to rendezvous with the rest of the chapter.
In the aftermath of Potassiar, the Hounds of Terra did what they could to rebuild after their losses. Chapter Master Avidon was interred in a dreadnought sarcophagus, and Captain Olympia was promoted to Chapter Master, and sergeant Zaporozia was promoted to captain of the third company. The chapter kept the bulk of its fleet out of combat for the next few decades, sending out smaller detachments, often including elements of House Ebo, to aid the imperium and secure necessary resources. The tech marines and attached techpriests focused on repairing what thy could, and installing the upgrades and systems that weren't sabotaged. This greatly aided the chapter, providing them with forge and medicae facilities aboard the Remembrance of Hetzen to allow for the complete training of new marines without needing to utilize as many resources or planetside facilities. no matter how far out of the way they went though, the Blight Hawks would eventually find them, leading to consistent skirmishes both in the void and on barren worlds as the Hounds of Terra were gathering raw materials or running their scouts through extra field training.
As their numbers began to recover, there was a growing sense of frustration throughout the chapter, with many of the marines wishing they would stop running and truly fight the Blight Hawks. After nearly sixty years, a mutiny was waged on one of the chapter's strike cruisers over this issue, resulting in a brief battle before the traitors absconded, leaving the chapter down a company, and the master of the forge dead in their wake. These traitors went on to assemble a larger warband under the sway of Slaanesh known as the Heralds of Excess.
Smarting from this insult and failing, the chapter has been pursuing the Heralds, as well as the Blight Hawks, ever since. In this crusade, they have become more taciturn and their behavior has likely cost them allies they would otherwise have made when enacting joint campaigns against these foes. The ties they forged with House Ebo have been truly tested by this rudeness, but the bonds they forged, as well as the Herald’s use of the very Porphyrion knight once used by their king, has kept that particular alliance strong. Aaaand that's the state of the lore for my space marines! After writing this up, I'm fully intending to redesign the paint scheme I did for these guys and eventually, redo some of my models, while trying to strip and repaint others. This all is actually a lot of summarization for me, and I intend to write out focus posts on things like the chapter's geneseed flaws, culture, methods of war, individual ships, and particular named characters. Eventually, I would also like to commission art of these guys, though as with the redoing large parts of my minis for them, that's going to have to wait until I get a job and decent income again. Feel free to give me a shout if you wanna know anything about my lovely marines!

Dawn of Fire Book 4: Throne of Light Book 4
By Guy Haley
What's it about:
The Indomitus Crusade continues its war across the stars. The primarch Roboute Guilliman has finally broken through the orkish threat bedevilling the sectors near Fenris, and makes ready to push on his bid to stabilise the Imperium Sanctus – but old and bitter foes stand in his way.
Kor Phaeron, the Dark Cardinal, threatens the previously stable core of the Segmentum Solar. Waves of rebellion instigated by his infiltrating priests suggest an imminent, large-scale invasion by the Word Bearers Legion. Worse yet, the Dark Cardinal's warriors are targeting the Black Ships, threatening to starve Terra of the pyskers the Emperor needs to survive.
Through this turbulent warzone Inquisitor Rostov continues his search for the Hand of Abaddon. Yet when strange, miraculous visions are traced back to the astropathic relay on Srinagar, his quest is diverted – for the visions foretell hope for the Imperium, a hope the fanatical worshippers of Chaos will do anything to snuff out…
Why read it:
Guy Haley is back! Not only that, he's putting the series back on track as he focus on the Indomitus Crusade and its core of characters.
What could have been better:
As a big fan of the Black Templars and also the Sisters of Silence, would really have liked a bit more story time for these guys. However, there is a lot going on in this book, and the time dedicated to them is short, but fantastic.
Favourite bit:
It has to be Guy Haley bringing the focus back to the main story and characters. The last book, wolf Time, was such a side step, and I really didn't get well on with story. It was fantastic to be back in the thick of things again.
And finally...
This is a really solid book and a very enjoyable read. Guy Haley gets things back on track and progressing with lots of action and great character moments.

9/??? Avenging son I like this book, BUT I wish I would not have seen that it was compared to the first novel of the horus heresy, it set my expectations really really high and it negatively impacted my view of the book, I enjoyed everything about the book EXCEPT how much spaceship stuff happened, it got old hearing about readings and blah blah blah, I wish it would've taken a backseat to everything else and had more spotlight on inquisitor rostov and his adventures within the indomitus crusade

It's this video I was watching specifically.
Inquisitor is dope, for the record. I still look at the book to this day, it's just great, and it's great for all the reasons Gav and John go over here - primarily that it's tonally on-point (for me anyway) and also allowed a look at parts of the Imperium that you couldn't properly explore in the mainline game.
That, and just letting John Blanche imagine and draw weird shit.
(PS I haven't forgiven Gav Thorpe for not replying to my email I sent him saying I liked his Indomitus book - you're dead to me, Thorpe! DEAD!)
I do love John Blanche and his artwork is 40k as far as I'm concerned but seeing him now kind makes me feel a little bummed out as he reminds me very, very strongly of my father towards the end and that kind of just, yeah, bums me out.
There really is just a class of man. Older white guys with white beards. Look at John Blanche now. They're like that. My father was like that.
(Only he couldn't draw. Far as I know, anyway.)

INVICTUS
Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.

plot idea: indomitus crusade posting
Send me a plot idea, anon or not, and I'll write a starter for it.
With the galaxy splintered as it was, Alethea felt pulled in every direction of the galaxy. She was, after all, a Daemonhunter of the Ordo Malleus, and her duty led to her over-exhausting herself on multiple occasions. It wasn't uncommon to find the Inquisitor had gone without a full sleep for sometimes days at a time, only chancing a nap when there was little else to do in the immediate moment.
As it was in the current moment. Preparations had been made, they were close enough to be en route through realspace, and there was little else, really, to do. Barring any - God-Emperor forbid - unforseen distractions or events. But it seemed He wished to further test the Inquisitor's resilience, as an alert quietly pinged at the comm in her ear, rousing her from the scant few moments of rest she had been able to get - uncomfortable and armor-laden as it was.
Grumbling what might have been a swear of some kind, Alethea jammed her helmet back on before trudging out of the ship's barracks. She could hear the outgoing communication, the acting captain of the ship a gruff man that took care of the vessel and all things related.
"Incoming ship, identify yourself."

Indomitus space marine characters!
Top left is Captain Victoria Titus-Kane, now with a better-fitted headswap. Daughter of Alexander Titus Maximus (Lord Macragge in my army's continuity) and Inquisitor Elizabeth Kane, she has her mother's energy tempered by her father's clarity, making her a lethally efficient commander who strikes when and where it will best impact the battle, with blazing speed (a whole inch faster than her dad, who is usually in gravis armor).
Top right is Lieutenant Nicodemus Chiron, whose keen insight to enemy deceptions and flair for setting up kill zones complements his Captain's more direct approach.
Bottom left is Chaplain Ionia Constans, fervent and deeply keyed into Chapter morale. Also, literally the biggest lesbian in the 500 worlds.
Bottom right is Judiciar Leander Duro, duelist without peer, eyes shining with zeal above his grim mask.
Really pleased with these four. On to the bladeguard veterans!

Timeline of the 42nd Millennium: Early M42
The Battle of Machorta Sound (Indomitus Crusade).
Engaging the Crusade of Slaughter in the Machorta Sound of Segmentum Pacificus, the Imperial Crusade Fleet Tertius under Fleetmaster Cassandra VanLeskus sought to foil an attempt by the Khornate Crusade of Slaughter to increase the Great Rift into Segmentum Solar with a Blackstone device. Thanks to a Xenos device provided by Inquisitor Rostov, the Navigator Scolos EvHaverad was able to track the Khornate fleet to its precise location. Though Scolos died in the process, the Imperial fleet was able to emerge directly on top of the Khornate armada.
The Imperial fleet was split into two segments. The first was 4 Battlegroups under VanLeskus which engaged the primary Khornate armada led by the Grand Cruiser Blood King. Meanwhile Battlegroup Saint Aster under Commodore Eloise Athagey ambushed the Khornate Blackstone device. The device itself was a massive temple complex mounted on an asteroid towed by the Daemonship Hellship.
VanLeskus' fleet battled the Khornate vessels and millions of Daemons which emerged from the nearby Rift, a boarding assault of Primaris Space Marines under Ferren Areios was launched at the Blood King. In their first true battle, Areios' Primaris Marines were able to fight their way to the command bridge of the vessel. On the bridge they found a statue, which soon began to move and revealed itself as a Daemon Prince with a massive cannon fused to its right arm. The Daemon tore through the Primaris marines and badly wounded Areios, though ultimately thanks to the arrival of Aggressor reinforcements the Ultramarines Lieutenant was able to slay the creature.
Meanwhile, Athagey's battlegroup assailed the Blackstone device. Athagey's command ship Saint Aster was trapped within the crocodilian maw of the Hellship and boarded by countless Daemons. However a boarding party led by White Consuls Captain Messinius and Inquisitor Rostov were able to land on the asteroid. After fighting through hordes of Daemons and Word Bearers Dark Apostles, Messinius and Rostov were able to implant a Necron Liquid Metal device onto the core of the Blackstone machine. The device reversed the effect of the Blackstone, and instead of amplifying the warp a massive null wave swept through the fleet, causing the millions of Daemons to dissipate and rolling back the Great Rift a great distance. Combined with the death of the Daemon Prince aboard the Blood King, the Crusade of Slaughter was shattered.
The battle was the first major victory of the Indomitus Crusade and blunted the advance of the Crusade of Slaughter. Her lesser commanders and Groupmasters earned individual triumphs, but it was VanLeskus who was recognized as the architect of the victory. Any critics of Guilliman's Indomitus Crusade were soon put to rest by the victory.

The last wall protocol and the war of the beast
Your writing the history of the imperium I have information of the imperium I have info for you the last wall was done after korland Slaughter became the last imperial fist due to an imperial lord admiral scheme and. He called in the last wall it was only 5000 battle brothers the imperial fists and successor chapter save humanity koorland lost his life due betrayal with in his own chapter his right hand man chapter master of The fist exemplars He had no chapter to lead once he got out of depression and survival guilt he decided to rebound the imperial fists with every last wall chapters .
the last wall was a case when the imperial fists legion needed to happen if a severe crisis where to befall terra or holy terra and imperium it was made by your favorite brother Rogal Dorn
the war of the beat was made what your brother fought on ullonor the ork waggh look like a fluffy bed time dream there where six beasts in total who par with a primarch it bought the imperium to it,s knees
also ullonor know Armageddon
the beheading a coup by the head offico of assanmourim after he was tired of the imperial high lord incompetence. He killed all the high lords accept for the inquisitor who he had a friendship with in a day he ruled the imperium well for 80 Years he ruled rebuilding the imperium. Until he got dementia and Maximus was force to take him down.
log story short anarchy rain for 50 years politically but not in millitry matters in the imperium until one of your sons agathinio bought a force to restore order of 50 space marines chapters and made a new council of high lords but because of head of the assianorium actions he manage to made your indomitus crusade possible you had something to work with because of him
(I think you need to spell check first... and what was the question or are you just telling me a summery of “the beast arises” series?)

I'm not sure why, but the concept of a Skaven-fied Imperium delights me and now, I'm imagining my favorite 40k characters as Skaven
You wouldn’t be too far off in the Verminus Imperium! It is an utter rotten Warp-thrown reflection of how corrupt the Imperium has become. The Astra Verminae are originally of Ultramarine geneseed (deep debate of being one of the Lost Legions but for now, Ultramarine Successor Chapter) and Vun, from his rank of Chapter Master and the Great Horned Rat-Emperor’s Foremost Champion, seem like a Skaven-reflection of Guillimane. The Council of 13 serving as both the Chapter Command and High Lords of the Verminus Imperium.
By the time the Indomitus Crusade is over and the Vigilus Defiant Campaign is in swing, the Imperium is disturbingly sizeable hiding under their god’s domain. Whenever they are spotted, people have seen them only sparingly - one group literally serving under a glory-hunting Inquisitor as a remnant of a mutated chapter seeking penance or a sparse Nurglite warband.
Never at the same time and if they are, usually from different clans and easily mistaken for something.
They know it and use it to their ravenous advantage. Kill a rival, take the loot, gain standing without breaking the Chaptermaster’s commands. It isn’t as ‘cut-throat’ among the astartes-rat compared to the guard-rats but they’ll be quick to establish who’s the current big rat.
It is a controlled mess that could explode at any point or time.

If you had a Black Templar OC, what would his personality be like?
Well obviously he’d be full of ZEAL.
In all honesty it kind of depends because I have a couple floating around in my head. My main one is an Emperor’s Champion named Cephas, a recently promoted Initiate who just days after Gulliman’s return became the Champion of Helbrecht’s crusade. He’s still relativly young, and has little beyond his faith really to temper his zeal and doubts. Ideally if I wrote a fic with him, i’d be dealing with him thrust into the upper echelons of the Eternal Crusade and being in the background as the galaxy changes a lot, and stays the same.
My second Black Templar OC, Watch Master Roland, is an older fellow, a real Davos Seaworth type in that been there done that/wry wit kind of way. He’s about 600 years old give or take and he’s less zealous, but no less idealistc or faithful. He’s had to deal with some shit. Buried a Space Wolf he loved. Dealt with rogue inquisitors. That sort of thing. He very much wants people to shut up, pick up thier bolter and start killing those fucking Tyranids. I have him hang out with this 90 something retired Sister of Battle and throw shade at everyone.
And than there’s Bradmante, She’s one of my few Primaris OC’s a young Castellan, serving as her Marshal’s second in command, a veteran of the Indomitus Crusade. Eager to prove herself worthy of commanding her own crusade. Her girlfriend’s a Sister of Silence, and the enjoy burning the witch. I don’t have much of an arc planned with her beyond using her as a background characters for her, but If ever wanted to do more stuff with my Inquistion OC’s I could find a role for her to play.
