Bríd Dirrane (1894-2003)
Fascinating woman! She lived to 109 and was buried on Inis Mór, where she was born, remarried and lived a large chunk of her life. She was a nurse and also wrote memoirs which were published in the late nineties.
Bríd and two of her brothers in 1917, from an article by Galway Beo
Here’s an interesting article about her also
Her book is also available to borrow from the Internet Archive

Inis Mór (Inishmore), Oileáin Árann (Aran Islands), Ireland
This is where part of the 2022 movie The Banshees of Inisherin was filmed! It's a gorgeous place, with gorgeous cliffs.

Dia duit is ainm dom Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way agus tá gruaig fhada dhubh ebony orm (sin mar a fuair mé m’ainm) le stríoca corcra agus leideanna dearga a shroicheann mo lár-chúil agus súile gorma oighreata cosúil le deora limpideacha agus go leor daoine inis dom go bhfuilim cosúil le Amy Lee (AN: mura bhfuil a fhios agat cé atá inti bain ifreann as seo!). Níl gaol agam le Gerard Way ach ba mhaith liom a bheith mar go bhfuil sé ina fhear mór fucking hottie. Is vampire mé ach tá mo fhiacla díreach agus bán. Tá craiceann bán geal orm. Is cailleach mé freisin, agus téim chuig scoil draíochta ar a dtugtar Hogwarts i Sasana ina bhfuilim sa seachtú bliain (tá mé seacht mbliana déag). Is goth mé (ar eagla nach bhféadfá insint) agus caithim dubh den chuid is mó. Is breá liom Hot Topic agus ceannaím mo chuid éadaí go léir as sin. Mar shampla inniu bhí mé ag caitheamh cóirséad dubh le lása meaitseála timpeall air agus mionsciorta leathair dubh, líonta éisc bándearga agus buataisí comhraic dubha. Bhí mé ag caitheamh lipstick dubh, bunús bán, eyeliner dubh agus scáth súl dearg. Bhí mé ag siúl taobh amuigh Hogwarts. Bhí sé ag cur sneachta agus ag cur báistí mar sin ní raibh aon ghrian ann, rud a bhí an-áthas orm. Bhí a lán réamhullmhúcháin ag stánadh orm. Chuir mé suas mo mhéar lár orthu.
i salute you

#OTD in 1998 – Bridget Dirrane, who was imprisoned with Kevin Barry and who canvassed for John F. Kennedy in the United States, celebrated her 104th birthday with news that she was to be featured in the new edition of the Guinness Book of Records.
Bridget Dirrane was the oldest native of Ireland’s Aran Islands and the second oldest person in Ireland. Éamon de Valera was the Irish political leader she most admired, but in a life touching three centuries, she met Pádraig Pearse, went on hunger strike in Mountjoy gaol, campaigned for John F Kennedy in Boston, and was the oldest recipient of an honorary degree, which earned her a place in the…

In Colin Farrell’s Golden Globe 2023 acceptance speech he said: "I want to thank Sheila Flitton, who played our banshee. I want to thank the cast and the crew, and the locals of Inis Mór and Achill Island that brought us in. There were lines blurred between all of us and we were just all one big family for the betterment of all our souls on that experience."
As a wrap gift, Colin gave Sheila a brown poncho from Inisheer.
The Banshees of the movie title and of the song Colm is composing are significant. In Irish folklore: female spirits who shriek and wail signal that a family member will die soon. In The Banshees of Inisherin, it’s clear that Mrs. McCormick (Shelia) whom Padraic and Siobhan avoid like the plague, is the village banshee. She suggests death is on the horizon with the Irish Civil War, Colm, Padraic or another islander.
Sheila with Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell at the Irish Premiere of The Banshees of Inisherin (14 October 2022).
Trivia - Martin McDonagh said he had the title of The Banshees of Inisherin long before he wrote the script. Similar to Colin’s character Marty who had the title of Seven Psychopaths before he wrote the script in the movie.

Top five places you've visited (not necessarily looking for anything fancy, you could take in a vacation kinda way, or in a my favorite bagel shop, park bench, etc way
This was hard!
Castlerigg stone circle - I love stone circles and this one is my favourite. It's usually a bit drizzly and invariably overrun with sheep. You go up a muddy hill and you can't see much, then all of a sudden there's the stone circle, and a horseshoe of mountains laid out around you.
Dún Aonghasa - this is an Iron Age hill fort on Inis Mór, off the west coast of Ireland. Half of it has fallen into the sea, so now it faces a sheer (unfenced!) cliff edge. It's spectacular. The Aran Islands are full of hill forts but Dún Aonghasa is the best. OK I could fill this entirely with prehistoric sites but that's probably enough.
Cefalù, Sicily - I think, in a crowded field, my favourite place I've ever been to on holiday. Just the perfect Italian coastal city: food, sights, sun, sea, sand...
That one amazing crepe place I found by accident in Paris and will never be able to find again - kind of self explanatory! The crepes were so good. The place was somewhere in central Paris. I have no idea where and I probably wouldn't recognise it again if I passed it.
Gruissan, France - this was the accidental destination of the first holiday my now-husband and I ever went on together. There were train strikes and we ended up hitchhiking with a carload of teenagers. We swam in the sea while French dogwalkers went by in coats and woolly hats. It was great.
